‘American Idol’ & ‘The Voice’ Has Some New Competition: Blake Shelton’s Singing Reality Show Gets Premiere Date
Spending 12 years on NBC’s singing reality competition series The Voice, Blake Shelton guided up-and-coming artists on their path to stardom. Departing after 23 seasons in May 2023, the “Ol’ Red” singer, 49, appeared to retire from reality TV. However, Shelton will now tackle a different kind of singing competition on CBS’ The Road. And now, we have a release date for the show with Keith Urban and Gretchen Wilson.

After winning 13 CMA Awards, Keith Urban knows there are some things you just have to learn from experience. That’s where The Road—premiering on CBS Sunday, Oct. 19—comes in, with Urban, Blake Shelton, and Gretchen Wilson.

Produced by Shelton and Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan, The Road follows Urban on his quest to discover the next big thing in music. Instead of a tiered competition, however, various emerging artists will headline for the “Somebody Like You” singer at music venues across America. Those artists place their faith in the audience, who determine which of them continue to the next city.
Wilson joins the cast as touring manager. “Opening for Keith is not for the faint of heart,” said the “Redneck Woman” singer in a trailer posted to social media.
“I spent a lot of my underage life playing in some seedy pubs, sometimes just for the bartender. So I love the idea of throwing artists into a real-world environment to find out if they are artists,” Urban said. “Paying your dues sucks, but there are things in this business that can’t be taught, like how to put together a set list, whether to extend or cut a song during your performance or how to work the crowd.”
“For me, touring has always been my first love,” he continued. “It’s where the rubber meets the road. But it’s the only road to take if you want to be a performer.”
