‘The Voice: Battle of the Champions’ Season 29 Drops Coach Lineup and Fans Are Fuming
Someone very important is missing.

On July 22, the official Instagram of ‘The Voice’ announced the coach lineup for season 29, naming John Legend, Kelly Clarkson and Adam Levine as judges.
For the past 28 seasons, the show has had four celebrity coaches, causing confusion and anger among fans.
In a separate post, NBC confirmed there will only be three coaches for season 29’s ‘The Voice’ Battle of the Champions.
Voice fans, you’re going to want to sit down for this. The beloved NBC singing competition just released a major bombshell about season 29 on their official Instagram, and fans are not happy.
The premise for The Voice season 29, debuting in Spring 2026, is ‘Battle of the Champions,’ where winning veteran coaches will duke it out for the title of ‘Best Voice Coach.’
In the July 22 Instagram post, the network revealed the coach lineup for season 29, which includes John Legend, Kelly Clarkson and Adam Levine. The announcement included only three coaches, a stark change to the series’ previous 28 seasons, which all featured four coaches.
The post was accompanied by the caption, “John Legend, Kelly Clarkson and Adam Levine face off in the Battle of Champions, coming Spring 2026. #TheVoice | @NBC and Peacock”

Fans have reacted to the announcement with mixed emotions — excited to see some of their Voice favorites back but less than pleased about the missing fourth chair.
“ONLY THREE COACHES?? BATTLE OF THE CHAMPIONS??” wrote one commenter.
“👀 Wait who’s the 4th coach?” said another.
Others are rallying for their celebrity coach-of-choice to make a return.
“WHOS THE 4TH PERSONN?!?!?!!! BLAKEYYYYY????” wrote one commenter, referring to Blake Shelton.
Another added, “What about the love of my life @michaelbuble 😍”
A third commented, “I want kelsea back.”
While many fans are wondering whether a fourth coach will be announced closer to the show’s season 29 air date, NBC has confirmed the spring season will only feature three coaches.
However, for the In-Season All-Star Competition, NBC has confirmed The Voice Season 1 Coach CeeLo Green will be back as a guest judge. So there will be four judges at some point during the season.
While the format change has many fans bummed, we’re excited to see what John, Kelly and Adam will have in store for the new season. Knowing them, it’s sure to be something entertaining. May the best coach win!
