‘Furious’ Gayle King could leave ‘CBS This Morning’ following scandalous year: report
Gayle King is “furious” about the recent controversies and changes at CBS, and she may be ready to leave the network’s morning show, “CBS This Morning,” altogether.
The news comes after Page Six reported last week that the program was headed for a complete overhaul.
“There are real discussions about just starting over — anchors, format, producers,” a source said. “Everything is on the table.”
Among the biggest changes is the exit of executive producer Ryan Kadro, who decided to leave months ago. An insider told the outlet that news of his exit becoming public the same day as the news that CBS reached a settlement with three of former “CBS This Morning” co-host Charlie Rose’s accusers was simply an “unfortunate coincidence,” but hasn’t stopped people from connecting Kadro to the settlements.

It’s Kadro’s exit — and the misrepresentation in the media of his decision to do so — that has left King unhappy with how things are being handled behind the scenes.
“Gayle is furious,” a source said. “She very much has had to hold everything together on the show. But she’s particularly upset that Ryan is leaving — and that he was mistakenly linked with the CBS payoffs.”
In fact, the real reason that Kadro is leaving his post is actually in line with what CBS wants: “Fresh blood and a total revamp.”

If King exits, it would definitely represent a revamp for the flailing morning show — and CBS in general. Not only would it follow the high-profile exists of CEO Les Moonves and longtime “60 Minutes” chief Jeff Fager, but it also comes as other recent changes failed to turn things around. Though John Dickerson replacing Rose initially resulted in a ratings boom after Rose’s sexual misconduct scandal, the numbers have since dropped and, with a year left on her contract, King’s future is up in the air.
“It remains to be seen what she’ll do,” an insider explained. “And what her future is at CBS.”
Gayle King has co-hosted “CBS This Morning” since 2012.
