Recap: Michael Bublé ‘Hurt’ and ‘Astonished’ After Night 3 of Blind Auditions — Who Did Him Dirty?

After Monday’s episode of The Voice, we’re less concerned with who wins Season 28 and more concerned with the fate of Niall Horan and Michael Bublé‘s rocky bromance.

The two were going strong in Week 3 of Blind Auditions, with Bublé offering to show Niall his underwear before putting the One Directioner into a literal penalty box for “looking too good.” No sign of trouble in paradise whatsoever.

Then came spa worker Sadie Dahl, whose cool, laid-back performance of Black Pumas’ “Colors” (TVLine grade: B+) had all of the coaches feeling good. Well, good and mischievous, as Niall decided to risk it all by blocking Bublé from claiming her for his team. In the end, his bold move was for naught, as Dahl opted to pick Snoop Dogg as her coach.

“When Sadie came out and I heard that voice, I knew she was a real frontrunner,” Bublé said. “You can imagine my astonishment and hurt when I realized that Niall Horan … had blocked me.” To his credit, at least Niall acknowledged, “I wasted my block.” (Was it worth it, Niall?!)

Cori Kennedy (Team Reba), “Why Not Me” — Grade: A- | Something tells us this furniture saleswoman should quit her day job. Her strong, confident country voice shone through immediately in her performance of this Judds song, with just enough rasp to really give it some edge. Even better than her audition, however, was the original song (TVLine grade: A) that she wrote about getting to since for the Voice coaches. In addition to being a solidly written song, it showed so much of Cori’s bubbly personality.

Revel Day (Team Niall), “Somewhere Only We Know” — Grade: B | After singing background vocals for people like Stevie Wonder and Andy Grammer, Revel stepped into his own spotlight with a stunningly soulful take on this Keane ballad. The performance faltered a bit, but it ended on an impressive falsetto and featured some interesting musical choices throughout.

Natalia Albertini (Team Snoop), “Out Here On My Own” — Grade: A | It took a single note for Snoop Dogg to turn his chair for this New Jersey party balloon business co-owner, and we can’t say we wouldn’t have done the same. A seasoned R&B performer, her emotional performance was punctuated by effortless runs and topped off with a powerful finish.

Marty O’Reilly (Team Bublé), “Trouble” — Grade: B+ | We were worried (and surprised) that it took so long for any of the coaches to turn around for Marty, given how instantly impressed we were with his smoky voice and strong classic rock vibes. The judges seemed a little put off by his goat-like vibrato, but they ultimately saw his potential, with everyone but Reba McEntire hitting their respective buttons.

Kayleigh Clark (Team Niall), “Stay” — Grade: A- | This Mississippi chicken farmer gave Niall goosebumps with her gentle, beautiful country voice, which she used to bring this Sugarland song to new life. And there wasn’t an unimpressed coach in the line once she kicked up the emotion and released a series of incredible runs.

Daron Lameek (Team Reba), “All Night Long” — Grade: A- | There’s a lot to love about this energetic Queens native, who had the judges vibing from the jump with his spot-on performance of this Lionel Richie party anthem. It was when he decided to cut loose with some interesting melodic choices that the coaches really took notice, including Reba, who couldn’t have looked prouder to turn her chair around.

Rob Cole (Team Bublé), “Joy of My Life” — Grade: A- | Rob didn’t get any of the judges to turn around when he first auditioned in Season 25, but he was singing — nay, growling — a very different tune this time around. His mastery of this Chris Stapleton jam proved him to be a solid country singer, but then he released the bear within, showing the full extent of his abilities. If Bublé hadn’t blocked her, we just know Reba would have snatched Rob right up.

Aarick Duncan (Team Bublé), “Birds of a Feather” — Grade: A | First of all, kudos to this man’s parents for choosing the wildest spelling of “Eric” we’ve ever seen. Second, kudos to Aarick for truly making this Billie Eilish tune his own, giving us a rendition that was equal parts funky and smooth. The soft sweetness throughout was thoroughly enjoyable, and that unexpected belting at the end left us curious to hear what else this man can offer.
