American Idol Season 24 Renewed By ABC Amid Signs Carrie Underwood Won’t Return For Another Season

American Idol season 24 has been renewed by ABC, but there are some signs that new judge Carrie Underwood won’t return. For American Idol season 23, season 4 winner Carrie took Katy Perry’s place at the judging table, alongside Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan. All three judges have faced a lot of backlash this season for not giving the contestants any negative feedback and only showering them with praise. In addition, Carrie has been worried about seeming mean on the show, and she doesn’t like the eliminations. These are signs that she might not return for season 24.
American Idol announced that the show has been renewed for season 24, its ninth on ABC.
In an Instagram post, American Idol announced that the singing competition series has been renewed for season 24, its ninth on ABC. The caption of the post read, “Dim the lights…here we go. #AmericanIdol is coming back for another season!” “Dim the lights… here we go“ is one of host Ryan Seacrest’s catchphrases, which he says right before the eliminations.

What American Idol Renewal Means For The Future Of The Show
American Idol Is An Iconic TV Staple

Although American Idol is no longer the juggernaut that it was in its heyday, the show is still an iconic TV staple, and people still love it. They tune in each week for some feel-good fun and to listen to some extraordinarily talented singers. American Idol season 23 will air its beloved Disney Night episode this week in a two-night event featuring the Top 7 finalists, who’ll be reduced to the Top 5 for the second night. The Top 7 includes Breanna Nix, Gabby Samone, Jamal Roberts, John Foster, Mattie Pruitt, Slater Nalley, and Thunderstorm Artis.
In its ABC era, American Idol hasn’t produced a superstar at the level of Carrie, Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson, or Adam Lambert, but it seems to now serve a different purpose, which is to provide family entertainment. Whether the winner or other finalists skyrocket to superstardom is beside the point because fans simply enjoy the ride while watching the show for a few months each year. Hopefully, American Idol‘s renewal means that the show will continue for many seasons to come.
