Is Reba McEntire the Same Off-Camera? Here’s What a Former Co-Star Revealed
Reba McEntire is a country music icon and beloved coach on “The Voice,” but a former co-star of Reba’s recently shared some tidbits about their relationship now and what it was like working with the queen herself, including how Reba is off-camera.
JoAnna Garcia Swisher starred on McEntire’s show “Reba” from 2001 to 2007. Garcia Swisher recently talked about the bond they formed at that time and how it has continued all these years later.
McEntire Is an Inspiration

Garcia Swisher talked about the opportunity to work with Reba was “a dream come true” during an interview with The Blast.
“You have this person that’s just such an icon, she’s the queen, and then she’s also like a mom to me,” she explained. “And she was in it with us. She was doing a sitcom for the first time and dove in fearlessly.”
For those worrying that McEntire might be different when the cameras turn off, no need to worry. Garcia Swisher said Reba is an inspiration, saying, “She’s just an exceptional person inside and out.”
For someone who is a household name, Garcia Swisher said McEntire is “just a real humble, good human. She doesn’t take herself too seriously. She’s all heart. I’m in awe of her.”
Fearless for Her First Time Doing Comedy
While “Reba” went off the air almost two decades ago, the cast remains close to this day. Garcia Swisher said, “We talk all the time. We are very, very close.” She reflected on her time on the show and said it was “a pivotal moment in my life.”
She also said that Reba’s “fearlessness” was something she would “forever admire.”
“Reba” just so happened to be McEntire’s first time working on a comedy show. While she had success in country music, a TV comedy was a big stretch for her. Garcia Swisher told The Blast, “It was cool to see someone who has achieved so much in other areas of entertainment be so eager to try something new.”
The bond between the cast is very strong, as Garcia Swisher revealed in an episode of “Sibling Rivalry with Kate Hudson and Oliver Hudson” that McEntire and “Reba” co-star Christopher Rich became like parental figures to her following the loss of her parents.
In fact, Rich officiated Garcia Swisher’s wedding in 2010. In addition, McEntire and “Reba” co-star Melissa Peterman served as bridesmaids.
On the podcast, she said, “I was so lucky to be a working actress on a television show that was beloved, but also, that I had real people that cared about me and made sure I was safe.”
