Reba McEntire Talks About Working With BF On New Sitcom

Music star and actress Reba McEntire has recently talked about her latest sitcom, Happy’s Pace. McEntire talked about what it was like working with a familiar co-star. She also noted what it was like working with her real-life boyfriend Rex Linn on the series.
Fans Can Expect A Familiar Co-Star
In her new series, McEntire plays Bobbie, who owns a bar left to her by her late father.
However, she soon learns she has a half-sister, Isabella, played by actress Belissa Escobedo, who was made co-owner by their father’s will.

In a statement with Entertainment Weekly, McEntire explained a bit about the character, saying she has been running her father’s bar for the past decade. As she added, “She was married, but her husband passed away. She has one daughter that is deployed in the Army, so she’s pretty much by herself and her life is spent in the tavern.”
“The Queen of Country” previously made a splash on television with her self-titled sitcom Reba, which ran for six seasons.
Melissa Peterman will play the bartender Gabby on Happy’s Place. Fans of Reba should recognize her as Barbra Jean. In the earlier series, Peterman’s character was the second wife of Reba’s ex, Brock. However, despite this, Barbra Jean almost obsessively treats Reba as her best friend.
McEntire discussed the fun of working with Peterman again, saying, “We get to play off each other, which is wonderful…We have so much fun together and it’s just putting Bobbie in certain circumstances that she has to find a way out of.”
McEntire Says She Learned A Lot From Her Earlier Sitcom Work
Meanwhile, McEntire’s real-life boyfriend Rex Linn will also appear on the series, playing a short-tempered cook named Emmett.
As McEntire divulged, “This is Rex’s first sitcom and I kind of told him that. I said, ‘Don’t memorize everything off the first draft because they’ll change it and they do every day just to improve it.”
“What doesn’t get a big laugh, they change it. And so you just learn to get familiar with the blocking and everything, but don’t nail everything down on the dialogue until the third, fourth day.’”
As she continued, McEntire highlighted that working on the show is an ensemble effort. As she explained, “What I love is the camaraderie between all of the actors and the crew, the writers, everybody. We just have fun creating what we’re going to be filming on show night.” She particularly highlighted Kevin Abbott, who she worked with on Reba and her second sitcom, Malibu Country. As she summed it up, “He knows my voice and I just totally love being Bobbie.”
Happy’s Place is set to premiere on October 18 on NBC.
