Brandon Blackstock Died On August 7 After Battling Cancer
Reba McEntire is heartbroken over the loss of her beloved stepson, Brandon Blackstock.
Brandon was still a child when Reba married his father, talent manager Narvel Blackstock, in 1989. Reba helped raise Brandon and his sisters, Shawna and Chassidy, alongside her and Narvel’s son, Shelby.
Reba remained in Brandon’s life even after she and Narvel divorced in 2015. She always said she viewed Brandon as her own “blood,” rather than her stepson.
When Brandon passed away on August 7 after a private, three-year battle with skin cancer, Reba was understandably devastated. She shared a moving tribute to him on social media, writing:
“Last week, my stepson/oldest son Brandon Blackstock went home to be with God. His struggle is over and he is in eternal peace in God’s presence. There is no one else like him, and I’m thankful for the time we had together. His legacy and laughter will be carried on through his family. Rest in peace cowboy. Happy trails to you til we meet again.”

Reba Shares Why Brandon Was “Precious” To Her
Reba was recently interviewed by PEOPLE for a cover story about her life and career. She discussed several topics, including her relationship with her fiancé, actor Rex Linn.
The “I’m a Survivor” singer also opened up about her relationship with Brandon. She detailed how “precious” he was to her, telling PEOPLE:
“I absolutely loved that child. He came into my life, I guess [when] he was 4 years old. Then when Narvel and I got married, he was 13, 14.”
Reba added, “Along with his mom and dad, I helped raise him, along with [his sisters] Shawna and Chassidy. They were my kids.”
Reba said that Brandon had a great sense of humor, and he loved to pull pranks on people. She recalled one time when he jumped out from behind a pillar to scare an employee in Narvel’s office.
She said, “Brandon is sorely missed, truly missed with his mischievousness and his love of life. He brought joy to everybody that met him, and we’ll never forget him.”
PEOPLE also shared a short video of Reba tearfully describing her relationship with Brandon. You can watch that video below.
