Larry David’s Curb Your Enthusiasm may get a season 13 after all, according to a new update from HBO’s head of comedy. The long-running comedy follows a fictionalized version of David as he crudely navigates the subtleties of social etiquette and normative absurdities. Since its debut in 2000, Curb has received countless award nominations and won two Emmy Awards for its improvisational style and sharp, cringe-inducing humor. Curb Your Enthusiasm also featured several iconic guest stars, from Ben Stiller and David Schwimmer to Michael J. Foxx.

Speaking with Deadline, HBO’s head of comedy Amy Gravitt revealed that she’s talking about a new season of Curb Your Enthusiasm with David. She noted that while the writer-comedian had not yet spoken to HBO about doing another series, she remains open to the possibility and would “love that.” Gravitt’s comments came as a surprise, given previous reports suggesting that David was ready to close the book on the show. Curb May Not Be Over Just Yet

Gravitt’s remarks suggest that David’s creative spark hasn’t burned out just yet. Curb Your Enthusiasm has often left its future uncertain between seasons, and has been revived multiple times after several year-long hiatuses. It seems the writer-comedian only returns when he feels particularly inspired, but if he does have new ideas brewing, there’s a strong chance HBO will greenlight a 13th season.

It appeared to be the end of Curb Your Enthusiasm when the finale of season 12 paralleled Seinfeld‘s last episode. Much like the Seinfeld finale, the final episode of Curb sees David on trial in an unfamiliar town, facing jail time for breaking an obscure local law. After Larry is initially sent to jail, just like the Seinfeld gang, Jerry Seinfeld was able to get the case thrown out. The final scene sees Larry and his friends on a plane flying back to L.A. and bickering—much like Jerry, George, Kramer, and Elaine, who were left to squabble in their cell.

Showrunner Jeff Schaffer has also previously revealed that he has discussed continuing the series with David and even considered a possible spinoff featuring Leon Black. However, he mentioned that “it’s done in its current form,” suggesting that Curb could return in a different format, such as an adult animated adaptation. Given Curb Your Enthusiasm’s ability to constantly reinvent itself, these ongoing discussions open up exciting possibilities for how the show could continue.
