‘The Voice’ Fans Sound off on Shocking Coaching Twist, Bang the Table for Blake Shelton’s Return
Premiering on NBC in 2011, The Voice gained a following as some of the industry’s greats sought out and helped refine the next generation of musical talent. Since its second season premiered in 2012, The Voice has scored an Emmy nod in the Outstanding Reality Competition Program category every year since, taking home trophies in 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2017. That changed this year when CBS’ Survivor edged out the show on this year’s list of nominees. On the heels of that announcement, The Voice recently announced plans to shake things up for its 29th season—and fans have a lot to say.

“Kelly Is Back? Well Then So Am I”
For its 29th season, which premieres in spring 2026, The Voice has summoned a trio of fan favorites. Coaches Kelly Clarkson, Adam Levine, and John Legend will bring their collective nine wins back to their big red chairs for The Voice: Battle of Champions.
“Kelly is back? Well then so am I,” one viewer enthused on Instagram, summing up the sentiments of many on the same thread.

The iconic threesome will try their hands under a brand-new format as they each attempt to nab the most 3-Chair Turns, with the winner gaining a special advantage in the next round. Season 29 will also feature cameos from other show alumni, with OG coach Cee-Lo Green returning to judge a special In-Season All-Star Competition.
For some longtime viewers, however, the announcement was missing something. “Kelly’s back… now we just need Blake,” one Instagram user commented.
Another fan excitedly declared that the legendary trio “will elevate the show like fireworks.” Still, they couldn’t help but wish that Levine’s BFF, Blake Shelton, would join the gang.
“WOW this is my wish,” one viewer wrote. “Kelly and Adam, where is Blake? Need the trio in the same season.”
Other Fan Favorites Return For ‘The Voice’ Season 28
Judging from the summary of his past comments, Blake Shelton is unfortunately not likely to return to his big red chair anytime soon. However, season 28 of The Voice will bring out four familiar faces.
NBC announced it will simultaneously film the next two seasons, with Michael Bublé, Snoop Dogg, Niall Horan, and Reba McEntire all back for season 28.

Snoop is vying for his first-ever title, but he’ll have to get through previous champs Bublé, Horan, and Reba first.
