‘The Voice’ Season 27 Fan Favorite Stuns With a Cover of This Timeless Classic

The Voice Season 27 knockout rounds have been incredible, delivering audiences countless contestant performances that had our hair standing on end. Last night, the knockout round bowed out with perhaps the best episode of the lot, with a selection of goosebump-inducing covers from the likes of Renzo, Adam David, Hailey Wright, and more.
However, four people probably felt last night was anything but effortlessly fun, and that is the coaches: Kelsea Ballerini, Adam Levine, Michael Bublé, and John Legend.
For this quartet of musical icons, the final knockout round brought with it the hardest decisions they’ve had to make yet, with no ‘Save’ option to get them out of trouble. As the episode continued and nail-biting choices left the audience and contestants shocked, it all finally came down to the last knockout round, with Team Adam’s Conor James going head-to-head with Darius Jay.
The internet has since been split on whether the right decision has been made, but let that take nothing away from the simply stunning performances the pair produced. However, there was perhaps one stand-out of the two, that being James and his cover of the Alphaville classic, “Forever Young.”
Conor James is a Force to Be Reckoned With
Without a doubt, one of the show’s favorites heading into the next round, James keeps getting better performance after performance, with this cover of “Forever Young” his spine-tingling best yet. By paying beautiful homage to the tone of the original but still offering his own spin on the song, James managed to truly and effectively let the song’s genius lyrics land with heft.
Stylish and composed, it’s clear there’s a star ready and waiting in James, with Levine understandably excited by his performance. The coach said, “The possibilities with Conor, that dude can just sing like very few people can. His soulfulness, I want to lean into that. He’s going to be around for a while,” before eventually picking him as his winner.
But what about James’ opponent, Jay? Well, Ballerini’s last remaining steal was put to very good use as she took the talented, energetic singer for herself, bolstering her ranks as the final gets ever-closer. “I have been waiting for this for so long. I think Darius is so special. He has this certainty about him and this joy and quirkiness,” the coach said, before adding, “I don’t think I have anyone on my team at that level of full-encompassing performer. I fought so hard for Darius since the jump and I finally got him on my team.” Up next for The Voice Season 27 is the playoffs, with the stakes higher than ever.
The Voice Season 27 continues to deliver breathtaking performances, such as this one from Conor James. For more updates on your favorite reality shows, including NBC’s The Voice, make sure to stay tuned to Collider.
