The coaches’ tenure on the show varies, but Levine has the most experience, having been a coach from Season 1-16. Season 27 is only Bublé’s second season, but he is coming off Season 26 with a win with Sofronio Vasquez. Legend has also won The Voice and appeared on nine seasons!
The Coaches Are Already Fighting In Episode 2
Season 27, Episode 2 aired on Monday (February 10) and a 21-year-old singer named Jaelen Johnston has three coaches fighting over him!
Johnston performed Luke Combs’ hit song “Where The Wild Things Are,” which reached the Top 5 on two different country charts.
As the song kicked off, he showed off his deep voice and country twang. Immediately, Levine told Ballerini he wasn’t even going to turn because he knew the singer would pick her. But, as she continued to listen to the performance, she wasn’t turning, so Levine did!
“I love all kinds of music, but I am die hard country music,” Ballerini told Johnston. “I’ve had ten years of putting out music in that genre, and your voice is unreal. And range! You’re not just a singer, you’re an artist. I really think that leaning into the songwriter of you is gonna be fun and I want to see where that takes us…Figuring out what the full realm of who you are as an artist, that’s my bread and butter, I want it!”
Bublé said, “I like that you want that and it’s good to see,” and Levine cut him off by saying, “But I want it too.”
The Maroon 5 frontman started his argument by pointing out that his “batting average” of convincing country artists to join his team is very low, because of “that big, smelly guy Blake Shelton.”
“Don’t talk about my dad like that!” Ballerini chimed in.
Despite losing out on country artists, Levine admitted that Johnston was “too good” not to turn his chair around, and Bublé agreed.
“I might not be an expert in the genre, but I know a guy and I’m sitting in his chair,” Levine added, motioning to the chair that Shelton used to sit in which is now his on The Voice.
Now, it was Bublé’s turn. He said, “Just because I don’t know [country music] as well, doesn’t mean I don’t love it. In the last couple years, I’ve had the most fun of my life doing duets with Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton…”
Ballerini argued, “I’ve sang with Dolly! And Reba! And Trisha. And Garth. And Taylor,” but Bublé hit back that he does have a country hit to his name, a song he wrote called “Home,” recorded by Blake Shelton!
Every coach put up a good argument, but in the end he chose Kelsea Ballerini!
