Reba McEntire, who’s set to return to The Voice coaching panel this fall, is looking back at how she had previously declined the show. Now, the country singer can’t wait for her opportunity to return to her coach chair.
Reba McEntire Initially Passed Up The Opportunity to Join The Voice
Ahead of joining The Voice for the first time, coach Reba McEntire reportedly declined the opportunity to join the show. During a recent interview on Late Night With Seth Meyers, McEntire admitted that she initially didn’t want to become a coach on the competition show.
“I was really dreading it at first because I don’t want to tell anybody they suck,” McEntire said.
Apparently, McEntire had first “passed on it [The Voice] years ago when it first came over from Holland, and I said ‘I can’t tell somebody, you know, don’t give up your day job.’ I’m not gonna do that!”
For those who may not remember, McEntire acted as a part-time advisor three separate times before getting her own coach chair in Season 24. McEntire is set to return alongside Niall Horan, Snoop Dogg, and Michael Bublé for fall’s upcoming Season 28.

She Admits Season 24 Warmed Her Up to The Opportunity
In 2023, McEntire first appeared as a coach on The Voice, alongside Gwen Stefani, John Legend, and Niall Horan. This season apparently really changed McEntire’s mindset on the whole show.
“The way we did it on the first time I was on The Voice,” she said. “It was more helpful and encouraging.”
She called the Season 24 coaches “nice people” noting that they all “encourage” and “life up.”
For those who may not remember, McEntire successfully coached two singers into the finale of The Voice season 24. Her finale artists were Ruby Leigh and Jacquie Roar. The artists finished as runner up and fourth place, respectively.
This fall, McEntire returns to The Voice Season 28 alongside Niall Horan, Snoop Dogg, and Michael Bublé. At this time, the upcoming fall premiere date has yet to be revealed.
