‘Today’ Hosts Break Down in Tears Following Emotional Month on the Show
Jenna Bush Hager Jokes Dad Sat Next To ‘Bad Influence’ At Inauguration
There have been a lot of tears shed on Today lately — with Jenna Bush Hager and Savannah Guthrie being the latest co-hosts to cry on camera.
On the Tuesday, February 25 episode of the daytime show, Guthrie and Bush Hager got emotional while talking about their close bond. The two began chatting about Guthrie’s new children’s book, titled Mostly What God Does Is Love You, when they offered viewers a deeper look into their friendship.
Hager and Guthrie, who have been friends for years, are godmothers to each other’s children.

“I want to weep because I’ve known Vale-y every day since she was born, many of us have, but also I’m so lucky to be her godmother,” Bush Hager said of Guthrie’s 10-year-old daughter Vale. “I’m so proud of her because everything you’ve given to them, all of your faith that you’ve passed down so gently, without preaching, without demanding, are in those little kids and when the world feels dark, that is hope.”
Meanwhile, Guthrie, who is also mom to son Charley, 8, is the godmother of Bush Hager’s son, Hal, 5. Bush Hager also shares daughters Poppy, 9, and Mila, 11, with her husband, Henry Hager. Guthrie shares her two children with husband Mike Feldman.
In a March 2023 interview with People magazine, Guthrie talked a bit about the bond that she shares with Bush Hager.
“Our kids are still buddies. What we just do now is, she’s out of the city, so we just make weekend plans and try to see each other. It was such a beautiful moment in time, those five, six, seven years that we were neighbors. Our kids grew up together,” she told the outlet.
“They were more like cousins than anything. Hal, her youngest, is my godson, so my kids like to call the other kids their godbrothers and sisters. And it feels like family,” she added.
It has been an emotional time on the Today set, starting on January 10 when longtime correspondent Hoda Kotb exited the show after 17 years as co-host. Kotb was replaced by longtime co-host Craig Melvin, who also choked up on his first day as co-anchor while being welcomed by his Today co-stars as well as family and friends.
