Wheel of Fortune fans threaten to ‘stop watching’ after Ryan Seacrest replaces Pat Sajak
Although Pat Sajak’s retirement was announced in June 2023, long-time viewers aren’t prepared to see Ryan Seacrest take on the beloved role.
Wheel of Fortune: Ryan Seacrest joins Vanna on hosting duties
As Pat Sajak’s 41-year reign on the Wheel of Fortune draws to a close, many fans have shown resistance to watching Ryan Seacrest become the new face of the game show.
In June 2023, the 77-year-old announced he would be stepping down from his hosting duties after landing the role in 1981.
In his announcement, Pat stated: “I’m looking forward to my final season starting this fall, and then handing over the car keys to Ryan Seacrest in September of 2024.”
At the time, the American Idol host shared his excitement and admitted he was “truly humbled to be stepping into the footsteps of the legendary Pat Sajak.
“I can’t wait to continue the tradition of spinning the wheel and working alongside the great Vanna White,” but despite this, many revealed they were apprehensive about the shift.

Taking to social media, @78Saltineyubi questioned: “@WheelofFortune why, why, Ryan Seacrest. A better choice would have been Tom Bergeron..”
As @Terryconant threatened: “I will not watch and the most logical choice to replace Pat should have been his daughter.”
@LinR complained: “Enough of Ryan Seacrest…. he’s everywhere…. over-exposed and over-rated. Sad to say after all these years, I won’t be watching.”
In agreement, Lucia echoed: “Give someone else a chance Ryan Seacrest is on almost every show as a replacement…”

Alongside the backlash, others defended Wheel of Fortune’s new host and slammed the critics.
@ManuelGonzalezJr hit back: “Give Ryan Seacrest a CHANCE !!! For crying OUT LOUD !!! Stop Judging the Book by its COVER !!!”
A sixth viewer @Nancy added: “I think Ryan Seacrest is a great choice to replace Pat Sajak. He has plenty of personality to be the host of Wheel of Fortune.”
Fans can look forward to the shift taking place in September as Pat’s final episode will air on Friday, June 7, according to Deadline.
