The Conners Casts Five-Time Emmy Winner With Connection To Roseanne For Final Episodes

The Conners is recruiting a five-time Emmy winner with a connection to Roseanne for its final episodes. It was recently announced that The Conners season 7 will be bringing in Austin Powers and Buffy the Vampire Slayer alum Seth Green for a three-episode run as a new friend of Darlene’s. Based on the character description, yubi Green’s addition could add some conflict to the spinoff’s last episodes. When the show returns to ABC on Wednesday, March 26 at 8 PM ET, another very familiar face will be making a guest appearance, and they may be an even bigger cause for concern.

TVLine confirms that Glee and Only Murders in the Building star Jane Lynch will recur in the six-episode final season. The five-time Emmy winner will debut in the season’s second episode, playing an attorney for the titular dysfunctional family. This comes after the premiere, in which Jackie discovers an opportunity to sue the pharmaceutical company responsible for Roseanne’s addiction that ultimately led to her death.
Lynch is well-known for her role as Sue Sylvester on Glee, in addition to her recent turn as Sazz Pataki on Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building. She’ll appear in two episodes as Jean, who is referred to in the official character description as “a seedy lawyer in a cheap suit.” Jean has a drinking problem, which becomes an issue when she gets hired to help the Conners in their case.
What Jane Lynch’s Character Means For The Conners
The Show Is Going Back To The Start
Lynch’s casting comes after the announcement that Green is joining the cast as Darlene’s new friend Chad. While present at the Lobo, a central location on the sitcom, Chad is also going through a separation from his wife. He’ll hit it off with Darlene throughout three episodes, as the two share a sharp sense of humor. Combined with the casting of Lynch, it’s easy to see how The Conners is going back to the core of the series for the final episodes.

Chad may go too far by harshly insulting Darlene’s family in front of her. Jean presents an even bigger difficulty, though, since the lawyer will drudge up the feelings of loss that Jackie, Dan, Darlene, Becky, and the rest of the family feel over Roseanne. It is confirmed that Jean’s introduction will lead to a debate, allowing for Roseanne’s presence as a character to still be felt after her exit. It’s a smart choice from executive producers Bruce Helford and Dave Caplan to tie it back to what started the spinoff.
Our Take On Jane Lynch Joining The Conners
It’s A Strong Choice

Green and Lynch are not the only ones joining The Conners cast. Zoe Perry is also on tap for the final season, playing a cop and sharing the screen with her mother Laurie Metcalf (Jackie). But with Lynch, who has won Emmys for hosting game shows, in addition to memorable guest performances, it may be the emotional way to wrap up the show’s seven-year run, with Roseanne becoming the root of setting up the final episodes.
