Major shake-up at Good Morning America as DeMarco Morgan and Eva Pilgrim leave
Eva Pilgrim and DeMarco Morgan are leaving GMA to take on new opportunities, and a rotating group of anchors will be filling in for them
Good Morning America faces a significant anchor overhaul, confirming the exit of beloved anchors DeMarco Morgan and Eva Pilgrim from GMA3.
Monday brought the news that DeMarco Morgan and Eva Pilgrim are moving on from their roles at GMA’s spin-off.
Eva is set to transition to CBS’ Inside Edition, stepping into Deborah Norville’s shoes, while her fellow GMA3 anchor, DeMarco Morgan, will depart from the company entirely.
ABC News President Almin Karamehmedovic relayed the changes to staff in an email, stating that DeMarco “has decided to begin a new journey and will be departing ABC News.”
Reports indicate that in the memo, Karamehmedovic communicated to his team that Eva “decided to embark on her next chapter and will be departing ABC News.”
In the memo, Karamehmedovic praised Eva as “a wonderful member of the ABC News team for more than a decade.”
The staff communication highlighted Eva’s journey through various stages of her career, remarking, “She worked her way up through local news, gaining extensive experience across the country until we were fortunate that she joined us here in New York. She is tireless and enthusiastic, always ready for the next assignment.”
The internal memo circulated by Karamehmedovic didn’t spell out DeMarco’s next career move but highlighted his impressive trajectory in the industry, stating, “Earlier in his career, DeMarco worked as a correspondent and anchor at network news and various local stations in Miami, Atlanta, Los Angeles and New York before joining ABC News in 2022 based in Los Angeles.
“He took on the role of co-anchor of GMA3 just over two years ago where throughout his reporting, his mission of telling stories of perseverance and giving back stood out.”
Furthermore, the note praised DeMarco’s commitment to his craft, “His devotion to journalism and sharing with others is evident in everything he touches.”
The president used the opportunity to express gratitude for both hosts’ contributions to GMA3, reports The Mirror US. Eva and DeMarco began their stint as co-anchors on GMA3 in 2023 following the exit of former co-anchors TJ Holmes and Amy Robach, amid a high-profile scandal.
Looking ahead, as per the New York Post, GMA3 plans to employ a rotation of anchors from within the GMA roster, introducing familiar faces like Lara Spencer, Will Reeve, Gio Benitez, Sam Champion, Rachel Scott, and James Longman to the forefront.
Amidst these changes, the audience shared their sentiments online, with one fan reportedly commenting, “DeMarco Morgan is one of my favorite guys at the network. It’s a real loss to see him go. Congrats to Eva on the move to CBS.”
One viewer expressed, “I’m happy Eva quickly landed on her feet at Inside Edition. But, I hate that she and DeMarco were replaced amidst the shakeup at #GMA3. Also, looks like the ‘Faith Friday’ series has been cut.”
Another shared their frustration, “WTH, @ABC ? What did you do with @EvaPilgrim and @DeMarcoReports on #GMA3? I love adding Will and Gio but throwing Eva and DeMarco out like so much trash is disrespectful and just plain stupid. You already shot yourselves in the foot firing Amy and TJ. Get your s–t together already.”
A comment on social media read, “Eva and DeMarco were never the right choices to host after the debacle of TJ and Amy. They had many GMA talents that would have been a better fit. It might be too late now to save this show.”
Eva spoke about her new position, saying, “Anchoring Inside Edition is truly a dream job. I have been an avid viewer and fan of the show for many years.”
She continued, “I’m pinching myself that I get to work with this amazing team. It’s truly an honor to join a show with such a long, rich history.”
Charles Lachman, Inside Edition’s executive producer, was thrilled about the new addition, stating they felt like they “won the jackpot to have Eva join” the team. He also commended Pilgrim for her extensive experience, noting, “She has solid news chops from her years as a reporter and anchor in national and local news, plus a warm relatability that resonates with audiences.”
He further stated, “We look forward to having a journalist of her caliber take Inside Edition into its next chapter.”
Deborah bid farewell to Inside Edition in May, expressing, “I am literally swimming in gratitude. Since I announced my departure last month, I have been floored by the response of my peers and by you, our viewers.
“I know Inside’s been a companion to many of you. You’ve told me you’ll miss our daily visits. I’m going to miss them too…And so my thought is this: Believe in yourself when it seems no one else does, because you may be amazed where that confidence will take you. Thank you all, thank you so much. That’s Inside Edition, bye bye.”
