John Legend’s Cheeky Dig at Michael Bublé on The Voice Has Fans Talking

John Legend Ribbed Michael Bublé for Being Like “Liar” Blake Shelton on The Voice

The Voice Coaches’ quips continue on Season 27, Episode 2.

Only two episodes in, and things are getting (playfully) spicy on The Voice Season 27. Coaches John Legend and Michael Bublé went head-to-head in competition over an Artist, and (friendly) accusations soon flew.

Michael Bublé promised to get inked for Artist Ari Camille on The Voice

Twenty-one-year-old Chicago native Ari Camille got chair turns from both Bublé and Legend on The Voice Season 27, Episode 2.

Bublé then made an interesting pitch to get Camille on his team.

Showing off the four tattoos he has on his wrist — the names of his kids: Noah, Elias, Vida and Cielo — he promised to add some Ari ink if only she’d pick him as her Coach.

The others immediately called Bublé out on his empty promise, as Bublé’s wife Luisana Lopilato would surely object to him getting someone who isn’t family added to the list — however talented she may be!

To prove his point, Bublé invited Camille to write her name on his arm in black marker.

Legend, on the other hand (or wrist, as it were), pointed to his Coach bona fides to woo Camille, who’d sung “I Wanna Be Down” by Brandy. “There’s only been one time that Brandy came on this show to be a mentor, and there’s only one Coach who brought her on,” he pointed out.

Ultimately, this argument won Camille to Team Legend, though she thanked Bublé for his offer, and he was happy to have her autograph.

In an interview following the back-and-forth, Legend, who wasn’t present for Bublé’s debut season, said he’s been getting to know the crooner and has theories about his Coach gameplay.

“What I’m learning is he’s a lot like Blake Shelton. He’s friends with Blake. He lies like him,” Legend said as Bublé walked right into his interview. “I want your Contestant,” Bublé told him plainly. Legend tried to revel in his victory by getting the audience to chant his name, but unfortunately, the other three Coaches were chatting, and not paying attention. Ah, well, more ribbing to come, surely.

The Voice Coach Michael Bublé sparks controversy by making a confusing statement on the show

Why Michael Bublé Just Said He “Hates” Christmas Music on The Voice

Michael Bublé jokingly channeling his Grinch vibes.

Michael Bublé is the king of Christmas music…but is he about to abandon his throne? Nah, he may be joking about the genre, but he’ll never let it go. The Voice Coach knows his voice is forever associated with the sounds of the holiday.

Why Michael Bublé Said He "Hates" Christmas Music on The Voice | NBC Insider

During a break between Artists in the third round of Blind Auditions for Season 27 of The Voice, fellow Coach John Legend opened up about his strategizing to topple current champion Bublé. Since Legend was gone last season, which was Bublé’s first, they are still getting to know each other’s schemes.

“I’m trying to learn your patterns of who you like,” said Legend, parsing through when Bublé does and doesn’t turn his chair around. “No man, there will be no pattern. I just hate Christmas music,” Bublé jokingly deadpanned.

The Canadian singer is well-known as a Christmas guy (check out his unique Christmas cocktail recipe here), and Legend joked he would like to see him branch out, suggesting, “we gotta explore other holidays. Halloween music. July fourth music.” Collab?

Bublé’s love of Christmas and music go together

“It’s funny, but when I was 6 or 7 years old, Christmas would come around and I loved it so much, but not because of the presents but for things like Bing Crosby’s White Christmas album,” Bublé told NST in 2009. “I just thought it was the coolest stuff in the world. By the time I hit 13, I’d been experimenting a lot and listening to different things, and my grandpa really helped ignite more of a flame. All I wanted to do was to learn more and more.” Thanks to the magic of technology, Bublé and Crosby performed a duet on NBC last year!

In 2011, Bublé released his best-selling album, Christmas, which included covers of classic holiday songs like “Santa Baby.” But one track almost didn’t make the final cut.

In a behind-the-scenes studio clip, Bublé shared that “Holly Jolly Christmas” was a product of a little extra studio time. “‘[The song] wasn’t even on the radar for us,” Bublé said. “We had just finished the recording session and we found out we had about 40 minutes left of studio time …  I kept sort of throwing out [different songs] and I said, well what about [‘Holly Jolly Christmas’]? Why don’t we just try it?”

And thank goodness he did! The song is a hit he continues to perform today. “The feeling was so good,” Bublé said of recording it. “It swung so hard and felt sort of rich and fun. It came out of nowhere, but sometimes that happens when you make a record.”

Gone but not forgotten: 53% of ‘The Voice’ fans are ‘devastated’ that Adam Levine quit [POLL RESULTS]

    NBC

In Gold Derby’s recent poll, we asked diehard fans of “The Voice” what they thought of Adam Levine quitting NBC’s reality TV show after 16 seasons, and 53% voted that they were absolutely “devastated” by the news.

The other 47% of fans voted that now was “the right time” for Adam to finally call it quits. Do you agree or disagree with those poll results? Be sure to sound off down in the comments section.

Adam didn’t give a specific explanation as to why he decided to leave the show he’s called home since 2011, except to say, “For me, it was time to move on.” In his official statement, Adam thanked fellow coaches Blake SheltonKelly Clarkson and John Legend, host Carson Daly, producer Mark Burnett and other “The Voice” crew members.

“I couldn’t hide my love for you if I tried,” he said about his frenemy Blake, who’s been a coach with Adam since day one. “Seriously. I tried. Can’t do it. Our friendship is and always will be one for the books. Whatever this whole surreal experience was, I’m just happy I got to experience it with you. You’re my brother for life. Kelly and John, take care of the cowboy and I’m sure I’ll be back to say hi very very soon. So much love to you both.”

Finally, the Maroon 5 singer thanked his “loyal” fans, declaring, “There’s literally no show without you guys. For me, it was time to move on. Your support has meant EVERYTHING.” Based on the results of our poll, it appears as though his “The Voice” fans will miss Adam just as much as he’ll miss them.

Throughout his 16 seasons on the show Adam mentored three winning artists: Javier Colon (Season 1), Tessanne Chin (Season 5) and Jordan Smith (Season 9). However, over the past few seasons he’s notably had a rough go of things, with all of his artists being eliminated before the finale for three cycles in a row. Gwen Stefani will replace Adam in Season 17, which will air this fall on NBC.

Blake Shelton Returns to The Voice in a Twist No One Saw Coming — And Adam Levine Might Not Love It

Blake Shelton makes a surprise return to The Voice season 27, and Adam Levine won’t be too happy about it

Blake Shelton may be gone on The Voice, but he’s never forgotten.

The country star left his longtime gig as a Coach on The Voice a couple years ago, but in the Season 27 premiere, it was like he was back. Well, almost. Read on to find out how he made a surprise appearance.

The Voice' Premiere Sees Incredible 4-Chair Turn & Surprise Blake Shelton Cameo

Kelsea Ballerini has a Blake Shelton button on her red chair

For her first season as a Coach, Kelsea Ballerini decided she needed some reinforcements to go up against returning Coach and multi-season winner Adam Levine. So she enlisted Levine’s friendly rival, Shelton. As she demonstrated during the episode, Ballerini seems to have a button on her red chair that she can press to play an insult Shelton lobbed at Levine in years past. “I have it for when I really need some backup,” Ballerini explained.

In fact, there are four quotes: “Adam’s a big baby,” “Adam…won’t shut up,” “Adam, you say a lot of stupid stuff,” and “Adam’s a crappy Coach.” All said with love, of course. Mostlyyubi.

Carson Daly pokes fun at Blake Shelton

Shelton may knock Levine, but Host Carson Daly is known to lob a joke at Shelton from time to time. In November 2024, The Voice’s most decorated champion posted an Instagram picture to promote his new single, and Daly quickly chimed in with a jab: “You look like a real man for once 😂.” But don’t worry: Shelton and Daly are actually very good friends, and this was all in jest.

Carson Daly Pays Tribute to Blake Shelton's Final Episode on 'The Voice'

Clearly, the Coaches are missing Shelton a bit, but he had a good reason for stepping away from The Voice in May 2023. “I think being a stepdad has changed my perspective in that I’m not the first person that I think about anymore,” he told Access Hollywood of his role to wife (and fellow former Coach) Gwen Stefani’s three sons. “Even to the small little things when you go, ‘I think I’ll do this,’ the very next thought is always, ‘Well, wait a minute. How’s that going work?’ Or, ‘What will they think?’ Or, ‘How will that affect a schedule?’”

“I think the only way for me to really do that right is to step away from being committed to something like The Voice that demands a lot of your time,” he continued. “There’s no way around it. If you’re going to do it and do it right, you have to be 150 percent in. And I just feel like those days are behind me for now. I got a more important job.”

Reba McEntire’s Former TV Husband Guest Stars In Her New Sitcom On NBC

Christopher Rich, who previously starred in Reba McEntire‘s namesake sitcom, has joined the cast of her brand-new show, Happy’s Place.

Happy’s Place, which just got renewed for a second seasondebuted on NBC on October 18, 2024. The show stars McEntire as Bobbie, a strong-willed woman running her late father’s tavern. But her world gets flipped upside down when she learns she has a younger half-sister, Isabella (played by Belissa Escobedo), who is also her new business partner.

The show also stars Melissa Peterman, McEntire’s former Reba sitcom co-star and real-life best friend, as a bartender named Gabby. McEntire’s boyfriend, Rex Linn, plays the tavern’s cook, Emmett.

Happy’s Place staged a mini Reba reunion when Steve Howey appeared in a guest role in one episode. Howey played McEntire’s son-in-law, Van Montgomery, on Reba, which ran from 2001 to 2007.

Another Reba star recently joined the cast of Happy’s Place. Christopher Rich, who played McEntire’s ex-husband Brock Hart on Reba, will appear in the new sitcom’s 15th episode, airing on February 21.

Variety shared the first known details about Rich’s Happy’s Place character, who’s named Maverick. The publication described Maverick as:

“…a local tattoo artist that is very good at his job … as long as he’s using his right hand. Turns out Maverick has had a stroke and likes to tease new clients about which hand he’s going to use when he starts doing their tattoos.”

The story detail about Maverick being a stroke survivor comes from Rich’s own life. The actor suffered a stroke and subsequent brain injury several years ago (in 2018), which kept him from acting.

“Then I threw a bunch of blood clots and ended up in the hospital with lung embolisms and debris on my heart,” Rich told Us Weekly in a recent interview. “After surviving all of that crap, I’m feeling really, really good.”

As someone with a disability, Rich says, “It’s great” to play a disabled character upon his return to TV.

“It’s great to be able to be a disabled person and play a disabled person,” he said. “I’m hoping that when some of this gets out there, that people that I’ve worked with in the past are going to say, ‘OK, let’s bring him back. We can work with him.’”

Reba McEntire, Emma Kenney, and Belissa Escobedo in 'Happy's Place' Season 1

    Spoiler Alert

    Casey Durkin / NBC

[Warning: The below contains MAJOR spoilers for Happy’s Place, Season 1 Episode 10, “The Macallister Girls.”]

Happy’s Place made way for the introduction of another member of Bobbie’s (Reba McEntire) family as her daughter Gracie (Emma Kenney) returned home for a visit.

A member of the military, Gracie had been stationed at a base in Qatar and made the long journey home to reunite with Bobbie, Abby (Melissa Peterman), and more, but not necessarily the new aunt she never saw coming, Isabella (Belissa Escobedo). Upon her arrival, Gracie is pressured to connect with Isabella who couldn’t be anymore different from her in personality, at least when Bobbie is putting the pressure on them.

Eager to try and make it work, the self-professed psychology expert Isabella finds an in with Gracie when they relate over having overbearing moms. While this revelation doesn’t please Bobbie, it brings Gracie and Isabella closer together and forces Bobbie and Gracie to confront the grief that tore their family apart.

As Gracie admits in the episode, her father’s death was one of the things that drove her away from home, and Bobbie finally gets some closure over that idea, allowing the mother and daughter to reconnect in a way they hadn’t in a long time. Overall, it’s a very touching and uniting episode filled with hope for the future. Below, Kenney opens up about Gracie’s introduction, hopes for her return, reveals what it was like following in the footsteps of her former Shameless castmate on the NBC comedy, and the experience of taking on a multi-camera comedy other than ABC‘s The Conners.

What was it like stepping onto the Happy’s Place stage though?

Emma Kenney: Stepping onto the Happy’s Place set at Universal was so welcoming. Everybody was so kind and wanted to make sure I was comfortable and felt I had everything I needed, and I was really lucky for that. I’m not used to going to a set as the newbie coming onto an already established cast. So I was a little nervous going into it, but as soon as I met everyone, my nerves were really made at ease.

Your Shameless costar Steve Howey already guest-starred this season. Did you get to connect before your arrival as Gracie?

Yeah, we did. I love Steve. We keep in touch frequently. He just told me how wonderful the cast was and how much fun he had on that set. He has known Reba for years and has always spoken so highly of her. So I definitely knew I was going into a safe space, but once I actually stepped foot there, I was like, “Okay, this is a really warm, good environment. I feel very comfortable and happy here.” No pun intended.

Would you like to reconnect with him on this show by guesting at the same time?

Of course. I mean, I love Steve. I love him on and off camera. He’s so much fun to work with and hang out with in general, especially on set. So yeah, that’d be a dream. I would love it.
    Emma Kenney in 'Happy's Place'

Bobbie really wants her daughter to get along with Isabella, but the niece and aunt have a tough time connecting. What was it like finding common ground in Isabella and Gracie’s dynamic with Belissa Escobedo?

I definitely felt there was a big character growth in this one episode. When I read the script, I could see it, but I wanted to make sure it was received. Gracie starts at one note, her relationship with each character kind of evolves a bit, specifically with Reba and Belissa’s characters, and I wanted to make sure that you could see some heart in her and see the growth, which I had a really good time creating with Reba and Belissa.

Considering Gracie’s role as Bobbie’s daughter, did you approach the character with the idea that you might return down the line? Would you like to?

Yeah, definitely. We wanted to establish the energy between my character Gracie and everybody in Happy’s Place. So I wanted to make sure that was very much in the forefront of my mind and her toughness contrasts with her moments of vulnerability, which I feel makes her relatable and a multidimensional character.

Bobbie and Gracie address the hurdles between them by facing their shared grief over the loss of a husband and father. Would you like to explore that story more onscreen? Perhaps there’s room for a flashback episode to introduce their family patriarch?

That would be a great idea and would bring a lot of explanation to who Gracie is and who Bobbie is now as well. [That] scene I felt was so beautiful on camera with Reba and an emotional one. It was one of the first scenes I shot that week with her, and it was rewarding. And I felt starting with that scene gave me a stronger point of view on my character, especially after doing it with Reba versus just preparing it on paper with my acting coach.

You star in The Conners, how did your experience on this multi-camera comedy differ from that?

Yeah, I definitely understand the multi-camera world pretty well. But I learned a lot from each performer and how warm the environment was, and we do our live shows on different nights, which also I thought was interesting to see the difference doing a show on a Tuesday versus a Friday.

Christopher Rich is proud to call Rex Linn his “bestie.”

Ahead of his Friday, Feb. 21 guest appearance on Reba McEntire’s NBC comedy Happy’s Place —where the Reba alum reunited with his former costars McEntire, 69, and Melissa Peterman — the veteran actor spoke with PEOPLE about just how close the cast of The WB series remains. According to Rich, 71, that closeness even extends to the cast’s significant others.

While sharing that he thinks of McEntire as a “sister,” he also revealed that he’s close to her boyfriend and Happy’s Place costar, Linn.

“Her present boyfriend, Rex Linn, is one of my besties,” he tells PEOPLE, adding that the chance to hang out on set with not only McEntire and Peterman but also Linn was a joy.

Rich says, “It’s glorious to me where life has brought us all to be honest. It’s really fabulous. I’m so happy that she’s happy, and she’s happy that we got to spend time together. And Rex is happy and I’m happy for Rex … it’s just a joyous time.”

Linn, 68, and McEntire met on the set of Kenny Rogers’ film The Gambler in 1991, but the two didn’t begin dating until they reconnected in 2020. According to McEntire, the pair hit it off when the country star was eager to order tater tots at a wine bar during a group outing.

During a March 2023 appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show, McEntire shared that her fondness for tots earned her a new nickname — and kicked off her relationship with the CSI: Miami alum. “Rex said, ‘That’s your nickname from here on out — Tater Tot,’” she explained, before adding that she calls Linn by the nickname “Sugar Tot.”

McEntire continued: “We’re the tots — sugar and tater. We’ve been together ever since. He’s a sweetheart.”

Thanks to his relationship with McEntire, Linn is now a member of the extended Reba family, an honor that he shares with Rich’s wife, Eva Halina Rich, and JoAnna Garcia Swisher’s husband, Nick Swisher.

Rich tells PEOPLE that he thinks of Garcia Swisher, who played his TV daughter Cheyenne on Reba, as one of his own daughters offscreen as well.

“JoAnna Garcia is like a daughter to me for real,” he says. “I married JoAnna and her husband, Nick Swisher, I was the officiant.”

Spoken like a true (TV) dad, Rich adds, “They are like my kids. I love them so much.”

Happy’s Place airs Fridays at 8 p.m. ET on NBC and can be streamed on Peacock the next day. Additionally, Reba can be streamed in full on Netflix.
