Ryan Seacrest Announces Sad News For E! Live Fans

It’s the end of an era on the E! Network. Everyone’s favorite professional host and face of award show interviews, Ryan Seacrest, has announced that he is leaving his longtime gig as co-host of E!’s Live from the Red Carpet. After over a decade of grilling celebs and Hollywood A-listers on the finer points of their fashion choices with Giuliana Rancic by his side, the 46-year-old announced in an Instagram post that he’s moving on.

Under a smiling photo donned in a tux with an E! emblazoned microphone, the man who has made millions as a professional master of ceremonies broke the news to fans and followers, sharing, “After 14 years of hosting E!’s Live from the Red Carpet I’ve decided to move on to new adventures.”

With American Idol, the production of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, his radio show “On Air with Ryan Seacrest,” and his co-hosting duties on Live with Kelly and Ryan, it’s no wonder Seacrest might want to free up a little bit of time in his busy schedule. Especially after, as USA Today notes, the consummate entertainer gave everyone a scare last summer after (what was later diagnosed as) exhaustion caused him to stutter and slur his way through the American Idol virtual finale.

A replacement for Ryan Seacrest has not been named by E! yet

Although the announcement certainly came as a surprise to fans, it’s obvious Ryan Seacrest’s relationships with his co-workers and E! Network executives are intact and positive. His departure announcement concluded by thanking everyone from crew to fans for the wonderful experience, poignantly stating, “I’ll miss the whole crew that works so hard behind the scenes and of course my amazing partner Giuliana. Thanks to everyone for watching all these years.”

Amidst the messages from fans and well-wishers, many fellow E! employees joined in to send Seacrest off. Among them, Fashion Police‘s Brad Goreski who wrote, “You are a legend Ryan!” And E! News anchor Jason Kennedy who shared, “It was a pleasure brother.” Even an official statement by E! came with accolades for the longtime host, “E! has long enjoyed our relationship with Ryan over the years especially as co-host of E!’s signature red carpet series. He has been instrumental in giving viewers a front row seat to some of Hollywood’s biggest nights. We are extremely appreciative of his many contributions and he will always be part of the E! Family” (via TV Insider).

As the next major red carpet event quickly approaches with the Golden Globes slated to air on Feb. 28, the New York Post reported that no replacement host has been named by the network yet. It’s certainly hard to imagine anyone else filling those Ryan Seacrest shoes!

Vanna White sends tearful farewell to Pat Sajak on ‘Wheel of Fortune’: ‘I love you, Pat!’

Vanna White is bidding a tearful farewell to her “Wheel of Fortune” co-host Pat Sajak.

White, 67, taped an emotional message played in front of Sajak, 77, and the “Wheel of Fortune” audience, which airs Thursday (check local listings), one night before Sajak’s final broadcast as host after a 41-year partnership.

“I can’t believe tomorrow is our last show together,” White said, managing a smile in the video. “I don’t know how to put into words what these last 41 years have meant to me. But I’m going to try. Eight thousand episodes went by like that.”

Pat Sajak finale: Vanna White cries in 'Wheel of Fortune' video

White praised Sajak for helping her overcome the stage fright she endured when starting the show, her first TV job.

“You made me feel so comfortable, so confident,” said White, who has gone onto global “Wheel of Fortune” stardom. “You made me who I am. You really did.”

“What an incredible and unforgettable journey we have had,” White said, holding back tears. “And I’ve enjoyed every minute of it with you.”

She took a deep breath and continued.

“As this chapter comes to an end, I know you’ll still be close by,” said White. “You’re like a brother to me, and I consider you a true lifelong friend who I will always adore. I love you, Pat.”

‘Oh my,” Sajak said watching the video from the “Wheel of Fortune” set next to White. The two embraced on the stage.

White will continue as co-host and letter-turner on “Wheel of Fortune” in Season 42 with new host Ryan Seacrest. Sajak will give his own farewell speech in Friday’s final episode.

Sajak was originally against hiring Vanna White: ‘She was so nervous’

Sajak finds it hilarious that he was originally opposed to hiring White when original co-host Susan Stafford left in 1982, while the show still aired on NBC. “Wheel of Fortune” creator Merv Griffin conducted a talent search for the spot, which came down to three young women, including White. The model and Georgia beauty pageant runner-up was not Sajak’s choice.

“She was really sweet and seemed like a really nice person. But she was so nervous,” Sajak said in his only farewell interview with his daughter, Maggie Sajak. “Her lips were trembling and she was perspiring. I thought (Griffin) was never going to hire her. Merv is smarter than I am. He saw something in her and knew the nerves would go away.”

Vanna White Will Remain on Wheel of Fortune Through 2026

Griffin turned out to be correct. White became such a star on “Wheel of Fortune” that fans named their daughters Vanna at the peak of the game show’s worldwide popularity. “I shudder to think how life could have been different,” Sajak said. “She is just a sweetheart and has made my life fabulous.”

Are Pat Sajak and Vanna White really friends?

Vanna White had some nerves about joining "Wheel of Fortune." But the co-host turned into a global superstar on the show.

The stars of “Wheel of Fortune” have a close relationship off the set that has endured for decades. Maggie Sajak talked about the family friendship she and her brother Patrick had with White’s family.

“We grew up hanging out with Vanna’s kids Nikko and Gigi,” Maggie Sajak recalled. “Me and Patrick were always at their house or they were at ours.”

“As much fun as we had on camera, those life events we shared with our families outside of the studio are my favorite,” White said in her video. “We’ve watched our children grow up together. We’ve traveled around the world together. We have laughed. We’ve cried. We’ve celebrated.”

Fans of Wheel of Fortune could probably compare, contrast and debate for days the differences between Ryan Seacrest and one of the greatest game show hosts of all time Pat Sajak, but there’s one aspect of the game that’s way more prevalent in the current iteration. Contestants have a tendency to “get physical” with Seacrest, and he weighed in on how he feels about that.

Ryan Seacrest’s takeover of one of the most popular game shows has been largely considered a success, as he’ll celebrate one year with the show in September of the 2025 TV schedule. In a discussion with THR about his experience so far, Seacrest revealed his favorite part of the gig, while acknowledging that he’s taken a beating. He said:

I love interviewing the contestants. It can get physical, too! Maybe it’s my size, but the men throw me around. I think, ‘Oh my God, it’s coming.’ (Laughs.) I bruise easily, you should know.

Compare the two Wheel of Fortune hosts all you want, but Pat Sajak certainly never had to worry about being manhandled by contestants in the same way as 5-foot-8 Ryan Seacrest. The new host has had several experiences with overexcited players, including being put in a headlock by a former pro wrestler and being tossed to the ground, which you can see below:

It should be noted that some of Ryan Seacrest’s tumbles are self-inflicted. The host — who will likely never live down that clip of him falling out of his chair on Live with Kelly and Ryan — took a surprisingly hard fall while chasing a wheel of cheese back in April. Wheel of Fortune also aired a clip from Seacrest and Vanna White’s ski trip in which the host crashed on the slopes, possibly (but probably not) causing his co-host to drop an F-bomb.

Ryan Seacrest Falls as 'Wheel of Fortune' Contestant Accidentally Knocks Him Down

We also can’t forget the time he purposely threw himself to the ground in front of the big wheel to show off his (lack of) breakdancing moves following Raygun’s viral performance at the 2024 Paris Summer Games. Oh Raygun, the Olympics will never be the same.

Still, being willing to fall to the floor is way different than being tackled or wrestled down by a stranger on a game show, but it sounds like the host is a good sport about it. Ryan Seacrest did say interviewing the contestants was his favorite part of the gig — no doubt in addition to giving away money, which was the best part to Pat Sajak and Vanna White.

If you’ve missed all of the above mentioned instances of Ryan Seacrest takedowns and don’t have them recorded somewhere, that’s a problem that Wheel of Fortune is finally fixing. When the game show returns for Season 43 this fall, it will be available for next-day streaming with either a Hulu subscription or a Peacock subscription. (Fans who are tired of Jeopardy! getting pre-empted by news, sports or weather will also be able to catch the quiz show on the same platforms.)

Now you’ll never have to worry about missing any more Ryan Seacrest mistreatment. Stay tuned for that premiere date.

Ryan Seacrest Makes Shocking Admission About Hosting ‘Wheel of Fortune’

Ryan Seacrest’s start as host of Wheel of Fortune was rocky, but he just revealed that he had years to prepare for the role.

Seacrest took over for Pat Sajak on Sept. 9, 2024, after the legendary game show host retired after 41 seasons on the show.

Ryan Seacrest Fees Pressure As Pat Sajak Wheel of Fortune' Replacement

Wheel of Fortune fans have called Seacrest out several times over the last 10 months for perceived errors he made as the new host. From failing to recognize Sajak’s contribution during his first episode to errors in explaining game rules, viewers didn’t miss a chance to speak out. Despite all of that, ratings are great, and viewers are staying tuned in, per TV Insider.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Seacrest discussed taking over on Wheel of Fortune and shared a few surprising things.

“I have a lot fun with the job, but I take the responsibility very seriously,” Seacrest shared. “We all have memories of watching Wheel with our families. I mowed lawns growing up in Atlanta just to save money to buy a Zenith TV for the kitchen so we could watch Wheel during dinner!”

Keeping the long-running game show fun for viewers is a huge responsibility. Seacrest shared that WOF is special because it’s “simple” and “it’s never changed.”

What we weren’t expecting to hear is that Seacrest’s hiring was in the plan for some time. He admitted, “There were conversations — actually, years ago — about me doing this show, and I expressed interest even back then. When you look at what Pat and Vanna [White, co-host] have built over the years … they are your friends. What they’ve established is special. So that’s why I said yes.”

Wheel of Fortune' Drama: Questions Asked Over Pat Sajak's Behavior

He also claimed that he prepped quite a bit ahead of his big Wheel of Fortune debut to make the transition smooth.

“It required a lot more prep than you’d think,” Seacrest revealed. “I made flashcards for myself and, when I could, logged in remotely to watch tape-days. About six months out, my producer built a little travel-friendly wheel for me so I could play in hotel conference rooms with random people.”

Season 43 of Wheel of Fortune is expected to premiere in September 2025, marking Seacrest’s second season as host.

    The Price Is Right/YouTube

Is Drew Carey psychic? After wondering if anyone had won a car on the first round of Cover Up on The Price Is Right, the contestant did just that and made history.

Alyssa Ludlow first won beach gear during the third item up for bid on Monday, June 23. The package, which retailed for $1,232, included two chairs, a picnic cooler, two towels, an umbrella, a blanket, and an ice pack. She had the highest bid of $800, so she will have to plan a trip to the beach very soon. She then won a car to put all of her beach gear in.

Then, The Price Is Right contestant came up to the stage to play Cover Up for a 2025 Snow White Pearl Kia K-4 LXS. Cover Up is a game where contestants have to “cover up” the wrong numbers with the right numbers in order to win the car, after moving one number from each column. If the game show contestant gets one number right, they can play a second round, and so on.

“If you get the number right on the first try, congratulations, you’ll be the first one in The Price Is Right history, probably,” Drew Carey said. The host then double checked with a crew member, Chris, to make sure he was right, and Chris said that it happened a long time ago during the Bob Barker era.

For the first round, Ludlow picked $24, 796, after consulting with the audience. Drew Carey asked if Ludlow was right, and the whole price lit up, indicating a win.

The host screamed and looked to the crew with his jaw hanging open. As Ludlow walked over to her car, Carey looked at the price and stood in shock. Model Amber Lancaster hugged Ludlow and said, “What? No way!”

Carey threw his hands up and said, “I can’t believe it!” According to Golden Road, this is the first perfect game of Cover Up since June 12, 2007, when Bob Barker hosted. This is one of the last scenarios that needed to happen under Carey. One of the last ones needed is a contestant winning $50,000 on Plinko.

Drew spoke it into existence today, even my jaw dropped. This was truly epic!” a YouTube fan said.

“Holy macaroni! I’m just as shocked as Drew and Amber are. Since 2007, nobody ever got it right on the first try playing Cover Up, until now. That. Was. Freaking. AWESOME!!!! You go, girl!” wrote another.

“What an incredible win in Cover Up! A perfect Cover Up in the Drew Carey era, that’s history (HER-STORY) in the making,” a third added.

“Drew’s face. Priceless,” commented a fan.

Ludlow moved on to the Showcase Showdown wheel and spun two 50’s, giving her $1.00 exactly. This resulted in her winning an extra $1,000. She spun again to try to win more money and only spun an 80, but she still advanced to the Showcase.

During the Showcase, Ludlow bid $30,000 on an aluminum cold plunge tub, a year’s worth of ice cream and kitchen appliances, and a trip to Australia.

The actual price was $24,517, which was a difference of $5,483. However, her opponent was only $2,353 off, so she won. Ludlow was still the biggest winner of the night with $27,028.

Golden Girls Season 8: Short-Lived Sequel Explained – The excellent chemistry together and were all blessed with top-shelf comic timing

Golden Girls Season 8: Short-Lived Sequel Explained – The excellent chemistry together and were all blessed with top-shelf comic timing

Bea Arthur Golden girls Golden palace

The Golden Girls is a hilarious classic sitcom, but many fans might be unfamiliar with its short-lived sequel show attempt, The Golden Palace. Premiering in 1985 and running through 1992, The Golden Girls focused on the lives of four older women who shared a home in Miami, Florida.

The quartet included Dorothy (Bea Arthur), a sharp-tongued divorcee, Rose (Betty White), a charmingly naive farm girl who was recently widowed, Blanche Deveraux (Rue McClanahan), another widow who was famously sex-obsessed, and Sophia (Estelle Getty), Dorothy’s wisecracking elderly mother.

A show centered on female friends in their 50s or older was quite rare when The Golden Girls debuted and is, in fact, still pretty uncommon today. That was likely one reason some first tuned in, as The Golden Girls was unlike anything else on TV, which probably made a good number of potential viewers curious.

However, what kept them watching was the fact that Arthur, White, McClanahan, and Getty had excellent chemistry together and were all blessed with top-shelf comic timing.

Sadly for fans, The Golden Girls ended in 1992 after season 7, despite it still seeming like there was life left in the show. Producers clearly agreed as they went straight to work creating a spinoff designed to continue the group’s adventures, albeit with some changes. Here’s why that happened and why the show didn’t last.

    The Golden Palace

The biggest difference between The Golden Palace and The Golden Girls was, of course, the absence of Bea Arthur’s Dorothy from the cast. While some reports had suggested that Arthur left due to a backstage feud with Betty White, there was never much evidence offered to support that notion. While the two women had differing work styles, they remained civil.

What was confirmed was that Arthur told The Golden Girls producers during season 7 that she was ready to end her run playing Dorothy, as she felt there was nothing really left for the characters to do that hadn’t been done. She preferred to leave on a high note instead of dragging things out.

Yet, The Golden Girls was still a big enough hit that White, McClanahan, and Getty had no desire to leave the characters behind. So after Dorothy was written out with a wedding, the house was sold, and the remaining women bought a hotel in Miami. They were then surprised to learn that almost all of the existing staff had been fired to cut costs prior to their purchase, leaving the ladies to run the place themselves, with the help of hotel manager Roland (Don Cheadle) and chef Chuy (Cheech Marin).

This was one of future MCU star Cheadle’s first big roles. Notably, one Golden Palace episode saw Roland confront southern belle Blanche about her fondness for displaying the Confederate flag, leading to a conversation that’s still shockingly relevant all these years later.

Ratings for The Golden Palace started off strong, but viewership quickly fell off, and not even a two-episode return by Dorothy could salvage things. However, CBS, who had outbid The Golden Girls original network, NBC, for the rights to The Golden Palace, actually came very close to renewing the sequel for season 2. At one point, the network officially did so before changing its mind by the time the upcoming fall schedule had been announced. In the end, The Golden Palace only aired 24 episodes.

Golden Girls Season 8 Almost Happened, But One Cast Member Said “No F*cking Way” To New Contract

Bea Arthur as Dorothy Zbornak looking disgusted in The Golden Girls

The Golden Girls was nearly renewed for season 8, but a major actor decided that she would not be returning to the show. Though rumors of a Golden Girls reboot continue to this day, the original series ran from 1985 through 1992, and there have not been any major rebooting efforts. Aside from a few spinoffs, the show’s legacy remains strictly tied to the legacy of its four major actors: Betty White (Rose Nylund), Bea Arthur (Dorothy Zbornak), Rue McClanahan (Blanche Devereaux), and Estelle Getty (Sophia Petrillo).

The season 7 cancellation cemented the show’s fate, but it was not always going to end with its seventh season. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, co-producer Marsha Posner Williams admitted that one star made the executive decision to end the series. While White, Getty, and McClanahan were all interested in continuing with Golden Girls, Arthur had no interest in another season, as her disdain for White made her want to exit the show. Check out her quote below:

The show would have continued after seven years. Their contracts were up and … the executives went to the ladies, and Estelle said, “Yes, let’s keep going,” and Rue said, “Yes let’s keep going,” and Betty said, “Yes, let’s keep going.” And Bea said “no f*cking way,” and that’s why that show didn’t continue. … And Betty would break character in the middle of the show [and talk to the live audience], and Bea hated that.

What This Means For The Golden Girls

The Show Could Have Gone On Longer

If not for Arthur’s decision to leave Golden Girls, the show certainly could have run for many more years. While Golden Girls ended in 1992, the stars would all continue to be active through the 2000s. Arthur would remain active on TV, appearing in Futurama, talk shows, and various documentaries. Betty White would continue starring in movies and shows through 2019, though she mostly preferred vocal work. McClanahan would continue working until 2009 in a variety of TV movies, and Getty’s career would end in 2001, due to dementia-related complications.

Given its initial high ratings, a show that still enjoyed Arthur’s involvement potentially could have enjoyed a much longer run.

The show could have run longer, and it even managed to, thanks to the spinoff The Golden Palace, which saw the entire cast return, save for Arthur. It ran for one season from 1992 to 1993, before being abruptly canceled after CBS changed its mind about renewing the series. Viewership had declined, as the loss of Arthur proved to be devastating for the group’s dynamic. Given its initial high ratings, a show that still enjoyed Arthur’s involvement potentially could have enjoyed a much longer run.

Our Take On The Golden Girls’ Ending

It Was Likely A Smart Decision

The cast of Golden Girls gather on the couch and look upset

The Golden Girls‘ ending was fairly abrupt, as viewers would not have expected that Arthur would lose interest in the series. Yet, as disappointing as the news was, it made sense. Arthur was a decade older than her character, having been 63 years old when the show started and around 70 years old when it ended. In her own golden years, Arthur had the right to decide what to do with the rest of her life. Instead of spending years surrounded by an actor she was feuding with, she elected to leave the show and enjoy her life.

Kind, 68, played Ira Rosenbloom on Young Sheldon over three episodes from 2018-2019. He played the Bookworm in Toy Story 3.

The veteran character actor has also appeared in TV shows such as Only Murders in the Building and The Goldbergs; in films such as Wolfs and tick, tick… BOOM!; and in voice roles including Inside Out, A Bug’s Life, Cars and Cars 2.

Potts chat with Variety in June of 2019 about her comeback to the animated series after she didn’t appear in Toy Story 3 in 2010.

‘I was invited back in November 2014, and I honestly didn’t realize how big my role would be until I saw a screening about six weeks ago,’ she said of reprising her role as Bo Peep.

She continued: ‘We had a script, but it kept evolving, and I never saw a whole script. None of us did. So I was clueless.

‘And then, of course, when I saw it, I was gobsmacked.’

Potts told the outlet that she believed the 2019 sequel Toy Story 4, in which Shawn also appeared, might ‘the most emotionally satisfying of all of them in terms of both humor and heart.

She added: ‘You laugh, you cry – you cry, you laugh. You just keep cycling through that rinse and repeat throughout an hour and 40 minutes, and it’s a good ride.’

Potts, 72, played the role of Connie 'Meemaw' Tucker on 139 episodes of the CBS comedy,

Potts also portrayed the role of Bo Peep in the Pixar franchise's 1995 debut film Toy Story, followed by 1999's Toy Story 2 and 2019's Toy Story 4

Potts spoke on the evolution of the Bo Peep character and preparation being put into it, as Pixar earmarked a dozen team members to assist in further developing the character and its appearance coming into the fourth film in the franchise.

‘Honestly I was so amazed that they even had a team of 12 people whose job it was to define her every gesture and the way her eyes turned and in what direction and how her hand would be extended,’ Potts said.

She added: ‘I mean, that’s usually the work that’s up to me as an actress, you know?

‘But I met them and I thought, “You guys are super on it! Awesome, I can just kind of sit back and let you guys make me!” And the proof is in the pudding.’
