Former ‘Price is Right’ producer shares protocol for contestants so excited they ‘pee their pants’

Mike Richards also worked on other game shows, like ‘Jeopardy!’

Hearing “Come on down!” on “The Price is Right” would make anyone excited, and there’s apparently plan in place if someone gets a little too excited.

Former “Price is Right” and “Jeopardy!” producer Mike Richards told People recently that if someone accidentally wets their pants on set, production is prepared.

“When I got there, they had a system in place in case someone peed their pants,” Richards told the outlet.

He added, “I never saw it happen, but there were curtains and a blow dryer and [a] pair of sweats just in case, since we’d have to get on with the show.”

Other kinds of accidents have happened on the set of “The Price is Right.”

Last year, a contestant named Henry was celebrating his winning one of the games when he dislocated his shoulder. His wife, Alice, finished off the show by spinning the wheel for him.

Henry ended up winning a Hawaiian vacation in the showcase showdown, and the show’s social media post of the clip joked, “He won a trip to Hawaii and the ER #PriceIsRight.”

    Drew Carey and the contestant

In 2014, a contestant named Judy hurt her ankle while spinning the wheel and played the Showcase Showdown on crutches.

Richards worked on “The Price is Right” during its transition from Bob Barker as host to Drew Carey’s takeover and has also worked on “Wheel of Fortune” and “Let’s Make a Deal” throughout his career.

The producer recently addressed his brief time as replacement host of “Jeopardy!” following the death of Alex Trebek.

Jeopardy executive producer Mike Richards holds an Emmy

Richards told People, “No one was more surprised than me. “They told me, ‘We’d like you to be the host of the syndicated version of “Jeopardy!”‘ I paused, and said, ‘Oh wow. Thank you. What’s the media plan?’ Because I was very concerned that this was going to be scrutinized as closely as a presidential election. There was widespread belief that whoever got the job first wouldn’t make it.”

“Everyone was so angry because it looked like I had gone into a room and picked myself,” he admitted. “And that’s not what happens in television, but I understood that that’s what the outward appearances were.”

Fox News Digital’s Janelle Ash and Christina Dugan Ramirez contributed to this report.

Jack Shannon was picked on the April 29 episode.

After putting in his bid on a DSLR camera, he guessed the closest amount and was picked for the next showcase.

Before beginning the round, Drew, 65, greeted Jack and told viewers that he was there with his father.

“Jack and his father making a living, it’s a family business where they make labels for like wine bottles, beer, paint can, anything you want,” Drew said.

“What’s the weirdest thing you’ve had to make a label for?”

Jack thought about it and came up with octagon bottles.

“Oh wow. What an exciting life Jack leads,” Drew joked, stepping closer to the camera.

Jack laughed nervously and Drew joined in on his laughter.

“Still talking about those octagon bottles,” the host laughed.

They then moved on to the prizes he could get if he won the game.

The Price is Right fans blast ‘don’t interrupt!’ as show abruptly taken off air in ‘hard-to-understand’ schedule change

    DREW’S ENCOUNTER

Jack’s dad, Richard, posted a photo of them waiting to see if they got picked on Reddit.

He told the platform users that Drew came over and shook both of their hands.

Richard said that Drew remembered about his business since his wife had won the day before.

Drew then turned to Jack and asked if he worked for his dad and about going to college.

Didn’t like Drew asking what the strangest thing labeled and then laughing at him saying ‘still talking about those octagon bottles

    A Reddit user

He didn’t think they would get chosen, but he was wrong.

    ‘NOT FUNNY!’

While most fans expressed their excitement and congratulated Jack for getting on the show, others pointed out that Drew comment was not funny.

“Didn’t like Drew asking what the strangest thing labeled and then laughing at him saying ‘still talking about those octagon bottles,’” one fan said.

“He asked & then laughs & pokes fun about an exciting life. Not nice and not funny!”

“He’s a young guy following his father’s business. Still rude & not funny,” another fan agreed.

“I didn’t like that either. I happened to be just tuning into the show right at that moment, so I did not hear the context. But it was not nice for Drew to poke fun at the young man like that. A joke at a contestant’s expense is never okay,” a third chimed in.

However, other fans defended Drew by saying that he was poking fun at his job and not him.

Drew Carey speechless as Price is Right contestant makes ‘best guess in show’s history’ as he’s just $1 off $86k prize

THE Price Is Right host Drew Carey has been left completely speechless after a contestant’s guess on the popular game show.

On Friday’s episode, a player named Patrice Masse had a pretty lucky game.

When it was his turn to spin the wheel during the Showcase Showdown, Patrice got his first big win by reaching $1

The numbers on the wheel represent cent values up to $1.

A player’s goal is to get a dollar or the closest number to 100 under two spins.

During the Showcase segment of The Price Is Right, Patrice went face to face with contestant Carolyn to win big.

To win trips to Hawaii and Italy, designer products, a motorcycle, and a leather jacket, Carolyn had to guess the correct price.

She guessed $30,028 but lost due to her guess not being correct.

    She was off by $6,000.

    LUCKY YOU!

Meanwhile, Patrice guessed $39,500 to win an espresso machine, a trip to Miami, Florida, and a luxury black Kia.

When host Drew, 66, checked to see if the price was right, he double-checked Patrice’s guess along with what was shown on his card.

“So, let me tell you,” he said while Patrice and the crowd were in complete shock.

The US game show then went on to say that the price for everything Patrice was given was $39,501

The lucky player was off by $1.

Drew looked at the camera and said, “Off by a dollar. With no help from anybody in the audience, by the way.”

The contestant could be heard saying “Oh my God” as he sunk to his feet behind the podium.

    The Price is Right Hosts

The Price is Right first came on TV in 1972. Fans fell in love with the game show so much that it has been on for over 50 years. Throughout that time, the show has had a few different hosts. Find out who they are below.

Bob Barker – 1972 to June 2007 (also became executive producer in 1988)

Drew Carey – October 2007 to present

Dennis James – filled in for Bob in 1974 when he missed four episodes, also hosted the nighttime version

Craig Ferguson – 2014 April Fools Day Special

However, he didn’t stay there long as he ran over to take a look at the car he won.

During his game, Patrice won $83,068 in cash and prizes.

“That was the best Showcase bid in the history of the show in my opinion,” he said.

Meanwhile, Patrice and his wife Tina couldn’t believe it and had their jaws on the floor.

MORE ABOUT THE PRICE IS RIGHT

The fan-favorite game show has been airing since 1956.

The Price Is Right was created by Mark Goodson and Bill Todman.

After a short hiatus, the show returned with Bob Barker as the host.

In 2007, he retired and Drew took his place.

The Price Is Right fans called out the game show and CBS over a former contestant they recently promoted.

The game show’s social media featured a clip of Angela Murray, who previously appeared on The Price Is Right.

More recently, she participated in another competition, the popular reality TV show Big Brother.

Angela, a 50-year-old real estate agent, was introduced as a contestant on Season 26, currently airing on CBS.

During her time on the show, she drew the ire of fans for what some felt was her “bullying” another castmate.

After The Price Is Right shared the video clip featuring Angela’s appearance on the show, commenters blasted her and CBS.

The Price Is Right shares a clip featuring Angela’s previous appearance on the game show

Several days ago, The Price Is Right shared a clip on Instagram from when Angela appeared as a contestant in 2019. The Big Brother IG page also shared the video, which features Drew Carey as the game show’s host.

In the clip, Drew asks announcer George Gray who the next contestant is.

“It’s gonna be Angela Murray. Come on down! You’re the next contestant on The Price Is Right,” George announces.

However, the clip quickly switches to recent scenes from Big Brother with Angela walking down from an upper level of the house and then speaking to her fellow Houseguest, Matt Hardeman.

“Matt, Matt, Matt,” she says in part of the clip.

It resumes showing Angela making her way from the audience to Contestant’s Row on The Price Is Right.

“Our TV mom is at it again — but this time on #TPIR! 🤩” the IG post caption read.

The post received over 13,000 likes and 1,400-plus comments from viewers leaving their feedback about Angela and the network.

Fans blasted CBS and former TPIR contestant after seeing video clip

As one might expect, seeing the controversial individual in a post spotlighting her appearances on The Price Is Right and Big Brother riled up many viewers.

“Long time fan, stopped watching after the bullying I saw and how no one did anything,” one commenter wrote regarding Angela’s argument with her fellow Big Brother Houseguest, Matt.

“This was absolutely disgusting. Don’t go putting words in our mouth, CBS. This is not OUR tv mom,” another individual commented to the network.

Another agreed, saying, “don’t call her ‘OUR’ TV mom. Her behavior this last week was beyond gross. I hope she’s next to go.”

Another asked CBS to “admit she’s a network plant,” but there wasn’t a reply.

Their comment is likely due to Angela’s appearances on other shows besides Big Brother and The Price Is Right. According to her Fandom Wiki page, she was also formerly a contestant on Let’s Make a Deal and appeared in an episode of House Calls With Dr. Phil in 2021.

As of this writing, Angela is still among the Houseguests competing on Big Brother 26, with $750,000 prize money on the line.

So long, soundstage of 1,000 memories.

The Price Is Right aired its final episode from Television City on Monday. The iconic CBS game show, produced by Fremantle, is leaving the Los Angeles studio complex where it has taped since its 1972 relaunch.

The daytime staple will relocate for season 52 to Haven Studios, a new facility in nearby Glendale, CA., in which Fremantle is an investor with a long-term lease.

The final episode at TV City featured contestants playing classic Price Is Right games, including the “Grand Game” but for $33,000 (usually played for $10,000), as well as the fan-favorite, “The Money Game.” One contestant also got to play the very first game executed on the show in 1972.

After 51 years, "The Price Is Right" is headed to a new studio for Season 52

Along with host Drew Carey and announcer George Gray, all six of the show models appeared — Rachel Reynolds, Manuela Arbeláez, Amber Lancaster, Alexis Gaube, James O’Halloran and Devin Goda.

“Today we say farewell to the legendary Bob Barker Studio,” according to the game show’s official Instagram account. “Thank you for all the memories. We’ll see everybody in Glendale next season!”

Hackman Capital Partners, which bought Television City for $750 million from CBS Corp. in 2019, is planning a $1.25 billion renovation of the landmark complex. In addition to The Price Is Right, it had been housing CBS’ The Late Late Show with James Corden, which ended its run this spring, as well as The Young and the RestlessDancing with the Stars, American Idol and Real Time with Bill Maher, which are solidifying moving arrangements.

Hackman’s plan for Television City would raise the number of stages to at least 15, from eight, along with production support facilities and offices for rent. The four original stages built by CBS at the campus’ launch in 1952 would be preserved, along with other historical design elements created by Los Angeles architect William Pereira. At the time of the 2019 sale, CBS remained a tenant, keeping its Television City-based productions in place.

The Price Is Right' Announces Plans for Landmark 10,000th Episode

The Price Is Right, created by Bob Stewart, Mark Goodson and Bill Todman, premiered on September 4, 1972. Bob Barker hosted the program from its inception until his retirement in 2007, when Carey took over.

The stage, which was previously home to The Carol Burnett Show, The Jack Benny Program, and The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour, among others, was dedicated to Barker in 1998.

He’s Back! FOX Officially Revives Tim Allen’s Beloved ‘Last Man Standing’

It’s been almost a full year since ABC abruptly announced the cancellation of Last Man Standing, the Tim Allen-led sitcom. To mark that anniversary, earlier today FOX announced that the show will be given a second life on their network this coming fall. Along with Allen, most of the show’s original cast is expected to return.

Last Man Standing is Allen’s first foray into sitcoms since Home Improvement ran from 1991-1999.

Tim Allen's Last Man Standing Officially Revived by FOX

The show follows the story of Mike Baxter, a sporting goods executive who juggles the responsibilities that come with his professional and family life. In addition to raising three daughters with his wife, Vanessa (Nancy Travis), Baxter struggles to maintain his rugged masculinity in “a world dominated by women.”

Deadline reported the news that FOX would be absorbing the show for the upcoming fall season, which will pick up where it left off last year. “I did a fist pump so hard I threw my back out,” Allen said about the news, adding that he “could not be more grateful for the fans who wrote petitions and kept up the passion and incredible support for the show.” Allen may have also hinted at the news earlier this week when he tweeted that “A strong wind just filled our main sail.

Last Man Standing Could Find New Life

News of Last Man Standing’s cancellation last year came as a surprise, given that it was ABC’s second-most watched sitcom behind Modern Family. Immediately after that announcement last summer, there was talk of the show moving to CMT, much like how the network added NBC’s then-cancelled Nashville to its lineup back in 2016.

It turned out that CMT didn’t quite have the budget for it, and the show remained in limbo. However, yubi, FOX had also been eyeing Last Man Standing since it was cancelled last May, but couldn’t find a way to work the multi-camera sitcom into its schedule.

It seems the network has made some room for it since then. The news comes just one day after FOX announced that it was cancelling three of its single-camera series, Brooklyn Nine-NineThe Last Man On Earth, and The Mick. Along with the addition to Last Man Standing, it sounds like FOX has been looking to retool its overall lineup.
Is Tim Allen to Blame for Fox's Comedy Bloodbath? | Vanity Fair
The network has also ordered two new multi-camera sitcom pilots, and is currently developing a third with Rob Rosell and It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia co-creator Rob McElhenney.

Part of this decision may lie with the massive success of ABC’s Roseanne revival, which showed that audiences are hungry for stories about everyday, middle-class families.

Though the similarities don’t just end there. Like RoseanneLast Man Standing features a star who, like the character they portray, is not only an outspoken conservative, but also a vocal Trump supporter. That’s such a rarity in the world of scripted TV that Allen himself has speculated that his political views might have been partly responsible for its initial cancellation.

Airing in the US yesterday (January 30), the show’s last ever episode ‘Whenever You’re Ready’ played out in typically comedic yet thoughtful fashion, with a warm and bittersweet ending.

We then see one of these shimmering lights fall to Earth and land on a man’s shoulder, prompting him to do something good.

Chatting to Entertainment Weekly, the actress gave her own spin on what the ending could mean.

“I think everybody’s particles sprinkle down,” she explained. “The way they re-evaluated how to get into the Good Place with these manufactured tests that once you got to the Good Place, you were allowed to celebrate being there as long as you want. Then you are allowed to end it.”

She continued: “Then you become these tiny, sparkly particles that rain down on the people on Earth to give them an extra boost. Those are the tiny voices inside your head that say, ‘Don’t throw that person’s mail away. Just walk to their door. It takes two seconds and it probably will make their day.’

“I would love to believe that that’s what happens. That’s such a beautiful way of thinking about it. Because we are all one, right? We’re all part of each other. Whether we want to believe it or not. There’s something that connects us all.

“I would love to believe that people who die become sparkly particles that make the voices inside our head give us good guidance.”

The Good Place aired on NBC in the US, with episodes premiering a day later on Netflix. You can also catch it on E4 in the UK.

A recent post from Entertainment Weekly details how The Good Place‘s creator, Mike Schur, is very cautious around spoilers, specifically because of Danson.

The first series of the show harboured a twist ending, and Schur obviously asked all artists involved to keep details on the down-low.

He recalled: “Ted said, ‘Absolutely, of course, I completely understand, I won’t tell a soul’. And he proceeded to tell literally every single person who asked him, random strangers at cocktail parties, anyone he ran into he’d spill the entire season. And I only found out about that after the finale had wrapped. He was like, ‘Okay, I’m glad it aired because I literally told everyone that happened.’”

Replying to Schur’s ‘fond’ memory, Danson said: “I was talking to John Krasinski, because he knows [Schur] well and loves you. I went, ‘Yeah, I’m working with Mike Schur and Kristen Bell.’ When I said it takes place in the afterlife, I saw his eyes go, ‘Oh, it’s The Office in Heaven.’ And that pissed me off. I’m like, ‘No! No! See, the trick is I’m actually a demon.’ And he was suitably impressed.”

There you have it, yubi, even seasoned actors are partial to the occasional spoiler.

Success is one percent inspiration, 98 percent perspiration and two percent attention to detail. And regardless if that math is mathing, the Modern Family cast is thriving years after they signed off.

Where the Modern Family Cast Is Now

As a wise man once said, life is full of changes, some big, some small.

And for the cast of Modern Family, wrapping on their heartwarming comedy series after 11 seasons and some 250 episodes on April 8, 2020, proved to be a lot easier because they had people who loved them to help them face whatever life threw their way.

“We all love each other. It’s amazing,” Ariel Winter told E! News last October of her time spent as brainy Alex, the middle child of Ty Burrell and Julie Bowen’s Phil and Claire Dunphy. When “you spend so much time with people, you really do become the family that you portray.”

Which is why she still thinks of Nolan Gould (rambunctious Luke Dunphy) as her brother.

“He was my first best friend, which is a really beautiful thing,” she explained. “We met when he was 10 and I was 11, and we’ve gone through so many stages of life together. And we have stuck through it all, thick and thin.”

That tight-knit bond is the same reason Sarah Hyland’s now-husband Wells Adams sought two sets of parental blessings before dropping to one knee in 2019.

“He asked my mom and dad for their blessing,” Hyland explained of The Bachelorette alum. “Then he also hunted down Julie Bowen and Ty Burrell for their blessing. They really, really are like my second set of parents.”

Which means, yes, Bowen was among those on hand for Hyland’s 2022 wedding to Adams (Burrell was originally meant to officiate, but turned over duties to costar Jesse Tyler Ferguson when his work schedule prevented him from attending).

The whole brood—which also includes Ed O’Neill, Sofía Vergara, Rico Rodriguez, Eric Stonestreet and Aubrey Anderson-Emmons—communicates much in the same way you’d expect “your own real family,” Winter noted to E!. “It could be a week; it could be a month. But I do keep in touch with a lot of them quite frequently.”

Still, she misses their days of being one big happy, well, you know.

“You go from working with somebody almost every single day for 12 years, and then it’s kind of like, poof,” she acknowledged. “Now everybody’s everywhere. So we try to keep in touch as much as we can.”
