‘Wheel of Fortune’ Ends Under New Host Ryan Seacrest With a BIG NEWS

    Ryan SeacrestCBS Media Ventures

Ryan Seacrest is ending his first season as host of “Wheel of Fortune” on a high note. According to series distributor CBS Media Ventures, the syndicated gamer– which just aired its final batch of new episodes for the 2024-2025 TV season — was up year-to-year in both households and total viewers.

Seacrest took over for longtime host Pat Sajak (and joined co-host Vanna White) in September. Per CBS, “Wheel” was “the only syndicated game show to post growth and was one of only two syndicated series to increase year to year.”

“Wheel” averaged 7.93 million viewers this season, with a slight bump of 74,000 vs. last year. In households, the game show posted a 4.6 rating for the season in households, up 1% from the previous year. CBS said that makes it the No. 2 syndicated series in households and total viewers, behind only sister show “Jeopardy!”

Ryan Seacrest Kicks Off 'Wheel of Fortune' Tenure

Sajak signed off from the daytime “Wheel” last June after more than 40 years as host. He was still seen this season in ABC’s primetime edition of “Celebrity Wheel of Fortune,” which repped his last turn on the show.

As Variety noted last year in a profile of Seacrest, the host studied intently while taking over the gig. Per the story, he went through “Wheel’s” more than 8,000-episode archive, watching hundreds of shows and cherry-picking moments from each decade to learn the nuances of the game.

And it apparently worked: In September, according to Nielsen data, “Wheel of Fortune” averaged 7.99 million viewers during its premiere month (September 9 to October 6, 2024) — making it the most-watched entertainment program on linear TV when sports and news were taken out of the equation. The arrival of Seacrest helped give “Wheel” its highest best premiere month audience in three years.

“Wheel” just wrapped its 42nd season in syndication. The syndie strip is produced by Sony Pictures Television, and distributed domestically by CBS Media Ventures and internationally by Paramount Global Content Distribution. Bellamie Blackstone is exec producer.

Sony and CBS continue to battle over their longstanding partnership on both “Jeopardy!” and “Wheel.” For decades, Sony produced the series (having acquired original producer Merv Griffin’s production company) while CBS was the syndication distributor (having acquired original distribber King World).

‘Jeopardy!’ Host Ken Jennings to Compete on Rival Game Show

    Ken Jennings

Jeopardy! fans will get a Ken Jennings bonus this summer. After Jeopardy! goes off for the season at the end of July, the beloved host will be on a rival game show — Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? — with Matt Damon.

Jimmy Kimmel is back to host Season 4 of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? but this time it is all celebrities competing in pairs for charity. The new season kicks off on Wednesday, July, 23 at 8pm.

In a preview for the game show, Ken Jennings is seen saying, “Do we love Matt Damon or what?”

“I’m coming on Jeopardy! with someone you hate,” Kimmel joked. Jennings shrugged as Damon sat in silence with his hand resting on his chin. The two have famously “feuded” for two decades. At the end of his talk show in 2005, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Kimmel said, “Apologies to Matt Damon, but we ran out of time,” but Damon was never scheduled to appear on the show. This has become a running gag and the two have pretended to hate each other ever since.

So with Jennings competing on a new game show, could he also become champion of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?  One thing;’s for certain, he’s not likely to beat his Jeopardy! winnings, which stand at $4,370,700, as details on the Leaderboard of Legends.

Reddit users noticed the preview during the NBA finals and wondered why he was partnered with Damon. “Personally I would have gotten a bigger kick out of it if it had been Ken and Brad [Rutter] or Ken and James [Holzhauer], but I’m looking forward to this,” the original poster said. “I believe Ken was last on Millionaire as a non-celeb contestant about a decade ago and tapped out on the $250,000 question.” H won $100,000 in 2014.

“Saw this during the game and you beat me to the post! This is interesting to me. Millionaire and Jeopardy! have some overlap, including previous Ken appearances. It seems like we’re finally seeing Ken enter popular culture as THE host of Jeopardy! between this and Happy Gilmore,” another said. Jennings is slated to appear in Happy Gilmore 2, releasing on July 25.

However, a lot of Reddit users said that Matt Damon is “no dummy” and is “wicked smart,” so it will be interesting to see how he competes with the Greatest of All Time.

“This strikes me as a prime opportunity to promote Jeopardy!’s new Hulu deal,” one fan said. Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune recently struck streaming deals with Hulu and Peacock.

The celebrity version has only given out the $1 million prize twice — celebrity chef David Chang earned the prize for the Southern Smoke Foundation in 2020. Last season, father-son duo Ike and Alan Barinholtz also won $1 million for the ASL Program at Los Encinos School. Ike also won Season 1 of Celebrity Jeopardy!. Will Jennings be the third? His exact episode date is not yet known.

JIMMY Kimmel’s future on Who Wants To Be a Millionaire has been revealed five years after the host took over the coveted role, The U.S. Sun can reveal.

The Jimmy Kimmel Live! host began to fill in the shoes of TV icon Regis Philbin during the show’s 20th anniversary special that ran in March 2020.

From there, Jimmy, 57, has continued to be the sole host of Who Wants To Be a Millionaire, as well as front several other TV programs for ABC.

After five years of success with the famous game show, The U.S. Sun has learned that the role will stay with Jimmy for “as long as he wants it.”

“The network, producers everyone is really happy with how he’s doing and his job is safe for as long as he wants it and as long as the show goes on.

“He’s got people fighting for him at the network that really love him,” a source revealed.

The insider continued: “Jimmy is nearly a different host than when he first started. He’s really settled into the role.

“Being a game show host is a completely different beast than being a talk show host or comedian so he was green to it.

“I think he wasn’t too comfortable for a while. He had an adjustment period but now he’s settled in and has made it his own.

“He mingles with the audience more than he ever has and same goes for the crew. It’s going really well.”

A separate production source claimed: “Jimmy is the most easy going host the show has ever had.

“The least diva of the hosts, gets along the best with the crew. No one can replace Regis.

“Regis was a king but Jimmy feels like a friend on set. He really fits in.”

TV legend Regis Philbin was the first host of Who Wants To Be a Millionaire when it premiered in August 1999.

Jimmy Kimmel reveals he’s a grandfather as oldest daughter gives birth
He hosted the quiz show until 2002 and then briefly returned for a 2004 primetime special as well as a 10th anniversary special in 2009.

While Regis, who passed away in July 2020, hosted the entire duration of its original run, The View alum, Meredith Vieira, 71, was tapped to take over a daily syndicated version of Millionaire.

She hosted that version for 11 seasons before departing in 2013 – where a carousel of hosts would take her place.

Cedric the Entertainer, Terry Crews and Chris Harrison hosted the show temporarily until the series was officially canceled in 2019.

However, just a year later, ABC announced they were renewing the game show – this time with celebrity contestants.

Jimmy was announced as the host and is also credited as an executive producer.

The show got renewed for its 26th season earlier this year and will air beginning in July.

Currently, the show format is a pair of celebrity contestants who attempt to win a whopping $1 million prize for charity.

The first celebrity pair to win the whole game was father-son duo, Alan and Ike Barinholtz.

JEOPARDY! fans are calling out the show for its ‘incredibly confusing’ category and rage it was ‘unfair’ for Ken Jennings to not accept a contestant’s answer.

Viewers were disappointed and perplexed by the conditions of Monday’s game – which included a special category to celebrate the upcoming Wicked movie release.

Paul Clauson, a tax analyst from Madison Heights, Michigan, returned to with hopes to extend his one-day earnings of $15,201.

He went up against Jonelle Lonergan, a product manager from Boston, Massachusetts and Amy Fleenor, an attorney from Cleveland, Ohio.

Host Ken, 50, walked onto the set to introduce the first batch of categories in the Jeopardy! round.

Today’s episode included: JAMES ABRAM GARFIELD, A TURN OF LATIN PHRASE, BLACK, SIMOLEONS, MOOLAH, SCRATCH, MONEY, AT THE BRITISH MUSEUM and the final category that stumped fans: WICKED.

The films stars, Ariana Grande, 31, and Cynthia Erivo, 37, who introduced the category to the trio of contestants and plugged their upcoming film.

Paul was first to take a stab at Wicked, although he looked unsure of his decision when he asked for the $800 clue.

Wicked’s director Jon M. Chu read out the answer in a pre-recorded video message: “Before I even directed Wicked, I could envision it up on the big screen.

“And now, we invite audiences to step inside the magical world of Oz to enjoy this type of nine-letter experience.”

Paul guessed “wonderful” – which is nine letters and makes sense given the “wonderful Wizard of Oz” is a famous catch phrase from the musical, the book as well as the movie.

However, Ken informed the returning champ that was not the correct response they were looking for – though it did technically match the criteria.

Jonelle buzzed in next and said: “What is Immersive?” – which was the correct response.

Fans immediately took online to express their confusion over the category – as wall as their frustration with Ken not accepting particular words.

Jeopardy! contestant tells ‘most heartwarming story’ ever told on show and makes desperate plea to family after accident
“I’m tired of these incredibly confusing categories just to plug something like a movie. Really unfair to the contestants who are not technically wrong,” one person raged.

Another questioned: “Is it just me or is that absolutely not pinned at all? What makes Paul’s guess of ‘wonderful’ (as in ‘wonderful wizard’) wrong?

“What would make my at-home guess of “cinematic” wrong?”

A third asked: “Would Cinematic have been accepted? I wasn’t entirely sure what they were aiming for.”

One more quipped it was “wickedly upsetting” of Ken not to accept Paul’s answer – which they claim actually “makes more sense” than the actual response.

Heading into Final Jeopardy!, Paul set himself up for another runaway lead.

    Jeopardy! Set Secrets

Jeopardy! fans don’t see everything behind the scenes from watching on TV. These hidden set features make the show run smoothly:

Each podium has a hidden riser so that all contestants appear to be the same height.
After each clue is read, signal lights go off around the game board, indicating players can buzz in and respond.
Buzz in too early, and you’re locked out for .25 seconds.
The podiums have a small white light in the lower left corner, which tells Ken Jennings who goes next.
Contrary to popular belief, the player with control doesn’t have a buzzer advantage on the next clue.
To the game board’s left is a scoreboard so the players can see their opponents’ scores.
All contestants must bring three outfits to the studio, but only the host and returning champion change for the next episode.
There are wardrobe rules, including restrictions on busy patterns, solid white, purple (like the background), and logos.
Five episodes are taped in a single day, and sometimes more.
The categories, players (aside from the returning champion), and Final Jeopardy! for a tape day are all drawn randomly to ensure fairness.
Female contestants are asked not to wear makeup, which is applied backstage, and don’t wear mascara because of sweat.
Contestants fill out a questionnaire, and producers select five Q&A topics for the host.
Host Ken isn’t allowed to interact with the contestants until after the game.
Players can request to sit in a chair while competing without question.

He had $21,200 going into the last round – far ahead of Jonelle with $8,000 and Amy’s $6,800.

The category was “AMERICAN WOMEN” as the contestants placed their wagers.

“In 1900 she told a Mr. Dobson, ‘Get out of the way. I don’t want to strike you, but I am going to break up this den of vice,’” Ken read.

“Who was Carrie Nation,” was the correct question the judges were looking for.

While Jonelle was the only correct response, raising her total to $15,999, she wasn’t able to surpass Paul who was strategic with his wager.

    Risking just $1, Paul dropped to $21,099 – for a two-day total of $36,300.

Wicked comes out in theaters nationwide on November 22, 2024.

‘Jeopardy!’ Fans React After ‘Brutal’ & ‘Chaotic’ Game: ‘What the Heck Happened?’

(from left) Jeopardy! players Belvin Blaber, Jacob Hale, and Vivek Upadhyay
    Jeopardy.com

This might have been one of the wildest Final Jeopardy questions in the history of Jeopardy!. The contestant won with only $600 in their bank after the reigning champion made an intrepid bid and a spelling mistake.

Jacob Hale, from Anchorage, Alaska, returned for his second game on Thursday, June 19, after a close game on Wednesday, where he had a one-day total of $4,800. He played against Bevin Blaber, from Schenectady, New York, and Vivek Upadhyay, from Princeton, New Jersey.

The first round opened with balanced gameplay. Upadhyay, a physician, took a quick lead, however, with eight correct responses.

Hale, a nonprofit finance director, tried to take the lead when he found the first Daily Double of the game. With $1,800 in his bank, he wagered $1,200. In “Let’s Go To Coney Island,” the clue read, “In the 1978 film The Wiz, Dorothy finds the Tin Man under this iconic (& aptly named) Coney Island roller coaster.” The correct response was “The Cyclone,” which Hale answered, improving him to $3,000. However, that still wasn’t enough to give him the lead by the end of the round.

He was in third by the end with $3,200. Upadhyay was in the lead with $4,400. Blaber, a writer, had $4,000. It was still anybody’s game going into Double Jeopardy.

Jeopardy! fans 'infuriated' at show for poor treatment of first host and 'forgetting' to honor him at annual event | The US Sun

In Double Jeopardy, Upadhyay dominated when he answered the majority of questions in “6-Syllable Medical Words.” In a tie for the lead with Blaber at $9,200, Hale found the first DD of the round.

He wagered $2,000 in “Worldwide Party Types.” The clue read, “Wiesn is another name for this celebration held during autumn; check the online barometer to see when it’s not so crazy to visit.” Hale answered, “What is Oktoberfest?” adding $2,000 to his total, giving him the lead with $11,200.

One clue later, clue 18, Hale found the last DD. He wagered $2,000 once again. Hale would either remain in the lead or go back to a tie with Blaber, depending on how he answered. In “Lesser-Known Black Americans,” the clue was ” Last name of Automotive Hall of Fame member Alma, who with her husband Victor put out a guide for Black travelers.” He correctly answered “What is Green?” putting him in the lead with $13,200.

However, Blaber gave him a run for his money because by the end of the round, they were tied again with $13,200. Upadhyay fell to third with $12,000. With a game that close, any of the three game show contestants could have taken home the win, but what happened next, no one suspected.

The Final Jeopardy clue in “U.S. National Parks” was not a Triple Stumper, but one spelling mistake caused the reigning champion to lose. “Much of this 73-square-mile national park is located beneath the Chihuahuan Desert” was the clue. “What is Carlsbad Caverns?” was the answer.

Upadhyay answered incorrectly with “What is Arches?” He wagered $11,998, leaving him with $2. Blaber wrote “What is Carlsbad?” which was only half of the answer. However, host Ken Jennings said it wasn’t the name of the national park, so she dropped down to $600 after wagering $13,000.

Hale seemed to be in a great position and almost had the right answer, but Jeopardy! didn’t accept it. He wrote, “What is Carlsbad Cavrans?”

“Because the ‘R’ is before the vowel, it changes the pronunciation,” Ken Jennings said. “We can’t accept that either. Caverns with an ‘ER’, we would have taken. It is Carlsbad Cavern.”

Hale wagered all of his money, dropping him down to $0. This made Blaber the night’s winner. The audience gasped, and Blaber covered her mouth in shock and pumped her fist. She turned to Hale and said, “I’m sorry!” before giving him a hug.

“Wow. What a finish,” Jennings said. Blaber will be back on Friday, June 20, for game two against two new opponents.

Fans called the Final Jeopardy round “chaotic” and “brutal.” “That was the most chaotic game of non-celebrity Jeopardy! I’ve ever seen,” wrote one Reddit user.

“Most painful Final I’ve seen all year,” said another.

“Really fun, close game, but man that final Jeopardy was an absolutely brutal way to lose. You’ve got to feel bad for Jacob,” commented a third.

“Oh my God. What a brutal ending,” said another.

“Um, holy s**t. That was maybe the most chaotic final jeopardy I’ve ever seen,” one fan commented.

“What the heck happened on that final? I feel like both of their responses should’ve been accepted,” another asked.

Others were upset that Hale’s answer wasn’t accepted, saying others have spelled words wrong and still got it right.

“I should’ve seen that coming, but at the same time, I didn’t expect it to actually happen,” one last fan said.

The Price Is Right models are typically seen in sparkly dresses and heels, or dress pants and a button-down shirt for the guys. However, Alexis Gaube shocked fans when she stripped down to a cut-out swimsuit and underwear in a recent Instagram post.

“Miami was quite Literally a Fever Dream 🌡️☀️#swimweek,” she captioned the Instagram post on Tuesday, June 17. Miami Swim Week took place at the Mondrian South Beach in Miami, Florida, from May 28 to June 1. The event featured runway shows, parties, and industry events that showcased swimwear and resort wear from national and international designers.

The first photo Alexis Gaube posted was of a selfie she took in the mirror in her hotel room. She had on a cropped Belize shirt with fruits on it, underwear, and rollers in her hair. Her toned legs, arms, and stomach were on display in the photo as she gave a pouting face.

The next picture was of her and her friend, Liza Jackson, at a party. They both wore short sparkly dresses and heels, typical of what Gaube usually wears on The Price Is Right.

In the Instagram post, the third one was a video of Alexis Gaube walking down a runway in a barely-there bathing suit. She wore a one-shouldered black swimsuit with cut-outs on her chest and side. The bikini portion of her suit was small, showing off much of her hips and legs, and a secret tattoo. Gaube paired the bathing suit with a wide-rimmed black hat, black heels, and a sheer shoulder cover-up with gloves.

The next photo in the carousel showed Gaube with no makeup on in an elevator, wearing a black and white striped skirt and jacket, with a gray sports bra underneath. A matching headband sat atop her head. Sunglasses covered her eyes. She held a CVS bag in one arm as well as her phone, which took the photo. In her other arm, she had three bags and an item in her hand.

The final clip in her post was of the model getting ready to go on stage. An interviewer asked them to describe SwimWeek in one word. “Spicy,” Gaube, in a pink bathrobe, said and then purred.

The Price is Right fans couldn’t get over how good Gaube looked and took to the comments to tell her that. “Stunning!” an Instagram user said.

Not one to back down from a challenge, Reba promptly shut her down with what could only be described as the perfect response.

“I’ve had more than two,” she pointed out, referencing her total of 60 hits on the Billboard Music Charts. When folks picked up on the hilarious exchange between the two women, they couldn’t contain themselves from laughing it in the comments.

“Gwen: I’ve had 2 country hits Reba: I’ve had more than 2 😂😂,” one person wrote. “Gwen & Reba BEST COMBO [EVER] ❤️😍,” another exclaimed. “This is the best! 😂 I can’t wait for it all to begin!! ❤️,” a different follower rejoiced.

As loyal viewers may know, season 24 will be the first time none of the original coaches will sit in the iconic red chairs to mentor a new group of aspiring singers. Blake famously stepped down from the show at the end of season 23, which also saw Niall secure his first team win with Gina Miles.

If this is what Reba is bringing to the table, then season 24 is sure to be one amazing season!

Reba McEntire Scolds ‘Voice’ Contestant Over Direction of Bee Gees Song, Tears Up During Battle Rounds

As the Battle Rounds continued on The Voice, Tuesday (October 24), Reba McEntire found herself scolding a contestant for the direction they wanted to take with a Bee Gees classic.

Assigning Mac Royals and Rachele Nguyen the Bee Gees’ “How Deep Is Your Love,” one contestant had other ideas for the 1977 hit. Royals called the Saturday Night Fever ballad “one of the most iconic and beautifully written songs of all time.” At the same time, Royals wanted to move away from the original melody of the song in an attempt to “give the people a little of what we do and what we like” he said before McEntire quickly shot the idea down during the duo’s rehearsals.

“Mac, I didn’t think you were hearing the beat,” said McEntire. “You kind of went in a different direction on it.”

Earlier on, McEntire advised the contestants not to stray from the classic melody too much for the performance. “The reason we pick the songs we do is because of familiarity,” said McEntire. “[Fans] want something they can sing along to. When you’re singing a song that is so well-known as ‘How Deep Is Your Love,’ you need to stay with the melody [viewers] remember, so [they] can sing with you and be a part of the show.”

Though Royals nodded in agreement, when the Battle Rounds came around, he shifted from the original melody, which threw both contestants off their harmony during the round. Though the contestants strayed from the original the coaches still had praise for their Battle Round performance.

“To take on a song of that stature is brave in itself,” said coach Niall Horan.

Gwen Stefani focused on the control of Nguyen’s voice since she is one of the youngest contestants on the show. “Rachele, the fact you’re 17, I hate to throw that in there, because singing is singing,” said Stefani, “but the things that you can do with your voice and instincts, it’s pretty magical.”

John Legend praised both singers but still leaned more toward Royals. “Mac, I just love the sound of your voice,” said Legend. “It’s so full, and it’s got richness and character, and it’s just the kind of voice I love to hear.”

In the end, McEntire chose Nguyen as the winner of the round. “She just blew me away,” said McEntire, “and for her to beat out a Four-Chair Turn says a lot.”

Though Royals was knocked off Team Reba, he still kept his place in the competition after Legend came in to Steal the singer for his own team.

“He just sounds like he should be a star right now,” said Legend. “Maybe he should have always been on Team Legend.”

During another Battle Rounds rehearsal, McEntire teared up after pairing up her youngest contestants Alison Albrecht and Angelina Nazarian for a duet of Lauren Daigle‘s 2018 hit “You Say.” McEntire teared up several times while instructing the contestants to bring the emotion to the ballad.

“This is a song, in my mind, between me and the Lord,” said McEntire to the contestants during rehearsal. “I am in a very depressed state, thinking I’m worthless. It’s very humbling. It’s baring your soul.” McEntire also told Albrecht, 17, and Nazarian, 23, to not move much while performing to better convey that sense of feeling “broken.”

The two singers ultimately buckled during their performance and received some tough love from McEntire following their duet. “Emotion, to me, means a lot,” McEntire told the singers. “If you can’t portray an emotion to your audience, it’s [just] a song. Y’all did that in rehearsals. You were still. You were meaningful. I was crying. But today, you went back to the way you did it the first time.”

McEntire decided that Albrecht had a better connection to the song and kept her on Team Reba.
