While the ladies of The Golden Girls were best friends on TV, things were the opposite behind the scenes.

Several crew members of the beloved sitcom reflected on their experiences during a 40th-anniversary celebration event on Wednesday, June 18, as a part of the Pride LIVE! Hollywood festival. During the discussion, coproducer Marsha Posner Williams spilled new details on the alleged feud between leading ladies Betty White and Bea Arthur.

“When that red light was on [and the show was filming], there were no more professional people than those women, but when the red light was off, those two couldn’t warm up to each other if they were cremated together,” Williams told attendees, per The Hollywood Reporter. “[Bea] used to call me at home and say, ‘I just ran into that c**t at the grocery store. I’m gonna write her a letter,’ and I said, ‘Bea, just get over it for crying out loud. Just get past it.’”

According to Williams, Arthur often used profanity when discussing White. “I remember, my husband and I went over to Bea’s house a couple of times for dinner. Within 30 seconds of walking in the door, the c-word came out,” she stated.

Casting director Joel Thurm, meanwhile, recalled Arthur calling White the C-word while sitting next to the actress on a flight.

While White and Arthur seemingly didn’t get along, the show’s creatives reportedly disagreed on what caused a rift between the two stars. Williams shut down coproducer Jim Vallely’s suggestion that Arthur didn’t like that White received more applause than she did during live taping cast introductions, according to THR. Instead, she said Arthur was not a fan of publicity due to her theatrical background, unlike White, whose background was in TV.

“The show would have continued after seven years,” Williams continued. “Their contracts were up and … the executives went to the ladies, and Estelle [Getty] said, ‘Yes, let’s keep going,’ and Rue [McClanahan] said, ‘Yes let’s keep going,’ and Betty said, ‘Yes, let’s keep going.’ And Bea said, ‘No f**king way,’ and that’s why that show didn’t continue.”

Additionally, Williams said White would Arthur “hated” that White would sometimes talk to the live audience while filming episodes.

Script supervisor Isabel Omero, however, remembered White and Arthur as being more amicable toward each other, stating the two would walk “arm in arm” while getting notes during filming. Williams joked they did so in case one needed to push the other in front of a rogue golf cart on the studio lot.

White opened up about her relationship with Arthur during a 2011 interview on The Joy Behar Show, stating, “Bea was not that fond of me. … I don’t know what I ever did. I don’t know, but she was not that thrilled with me. But I loved Bea and I admired her.”

The Golden Girls, which ran for seven seasons from 1985 to 1992, followed a group of four friends enjoying their golden years in Miami. Getty and McClanahan filled out the show’s main quartet alongside White and Arthur.

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

“The Brady Bunch” was a huge hit in the 1970s, and it continues to enjoy success in reruns today, but there was one important detail the writers never clarified.

The pilot episode of the series made it clear that Mike Brady, played by Robert Reed, had been widowed, but the show never specified if Florence Henderson’s character, Carol Brady, had been widowed or divorced.

“There was a whole discrepancy in the basis of the show, in the concept of the show that the network fought [creator] Sherwood Schwartz on, and that is the premise was a widower with three sons and a divorcee with three daughters, and the network felt a divorcee created too many problems for the series,” Barry Williams, who played oldest son Greg Brady, said on his “The Real Brady Bros” podcast.

Williams said executives felt custody details and the issues that would have led to the divorce would complicate the premise of the show.

The wedding on the pilot of the Brady Bunch

“We were playing to a very conservative country, so they wanted Carol to be a widow, and Sherwood never changed it. But they agreed to disagree, and it was left unhandled, which is why you never see in our pilot episode Carol’s ex-husband or even referenced,” he added.

“We were playing to a very conservative country, so they wanted Carol to be a widow, and Sherwood never changed it. But they agreed to disagree, and it was left unhandled, which is why you never see in our pilot episode Carol’s ex-husband or even referenced.”

He added that the show also never depicted any of the children being adopted by their stepparents, although Susan Olsen, who played youngest daughter Cindy Brady, noted the fact that the girls’ last names were Brady implied they had been adopted by their stepfather.

“What is interesting, as you mention, is that they leave it. They don’t deal with Mr. Martin by reference,” Christopher Knight, who played middle brother Peter and co-hosts the podcast, said, referring to Carol’s first husband. “They do refer to Mrs. Brady, the previous Mrs. Brady, quickly in this episode in a really touching scene, and we’ll review it, and [they] then never again reference it or deal with it.”

Olsen said she thought it was “kind of sad” the boys’ mom was never mentioned again.

Brady Bunch family on their stairs

She noted that Carol does say, “‘Three years ago, I thought it was the end of the world, and now it’s just the beginning,’ and you wonder, ‘Did he die, or did they split up?’”

“I’ve felt that was through a divorce or two myself,” Williams said. Knight added that Schwartz “left it so the audience can decide for themselves.”

Knight said he also took “offense” to the idea that the siblings never referred to the fact that they were stepchildren.

“I thought that was the part of the show that really failed us as kids, and I was just 12 years old, thinking at that time, ‘They’re not really my sisters,’ and I know growing up I would have said, ‘You’re not really my sister.’”

He said he now realizes the reason for the show’s success was because they didn’t do that.

“It was all about getting along,” he admitted.

Scene from Brady Bunch with the girls and their parents

“And in getting along, having mom’s picture always up, referencing your real mom or your birth mom is only gonna be a wedge issue, a potential wedge issue, so it was completely put aside,” he explained.

Divorce was a sticky issue on TV at the time. The series ran from 1969 until 1974.

Mary Richards on “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” which ran from 1970 until 1977, was also supposed to be a divorcee when she decided to move to Minneapolis and work for a local news station, but again the show’s network didn’t like the idea.

Allan Burns, co-creator of the show, told The Hollywood Reporter in 2017, “We had the idea that we would do the first divorcee on television. It’s hard to believe, but in 1970 that was a controversial idea. Mary loved the idea, Grant loved the idea. Both of them were divorced and understood it, but the network had a sort of cardiac episode.”

He said he was “summoned” to a CBS executive’s office, and divorce was replaced by a broken engagement.

Two of the biggest country stars at at war! Reba McEntire wants to get back into the sitcom world, but it seems like her pal Dolly Parton is not letting that happen, causing friction between the two.

“There’s always been a friendly rivalry there, only now Reba’s pressing Dolly’s buttons big-time,” spills an insider. “Reba’s always trying to one-up Dolly in everything she does.”

“She’s not bitter or b**chy about it, but there’s a ruthless and kind of restless streak there, for sure, and a part of Reba would love to get one over on her old pal!” the source continues.

Recently, the red-headed beauty admitted that she would be on board with reviving her hit show Reba.

“We’ve really been trying hard to do a reboot of the Reba show. I really want to work with the people that I got to work with during that six and a half years,” she previously shared.

But the “Jolene” singer is allegedly getting in the way of McEntire’s acting career.

“Dolly loves Reba, but she can find her a little intense at times,” the source dishes. “Everyone knows Dolly’s the undisputed queen of country. Everything she touches turns to gold. She’s got her music, her producing, her amusement park and many other endeavors. But Reba’s telling all their mutual friends she’s going to be bigger than Dolly. In the past, Dolly’s just said, ‘Ah, shucks’ and looked away. So, it’ll be interesting to see how this all plays out!”

Apparently, this is not the first time the country stars have bickered. In 2020, they butted heads about how they would honor late pal Kenny Rogers at a tribute concert. “Each thought they meant more to Kenny than the other, and it sparked a little rift and caused awkwardness for everyone around them!” the insider reveals.

The source spoke with The National Enquirer.

Joy Behar Under Fire for Revealing Co-Host’s Past ‘Lesbian Relationship’ on ‘The View’ in Front of Her Parents

Sometimes, even a seasoned host like Joy Behar can stir the pot a bit too vigorously.

On the Wednesday, October 30 episode of The View, the 82-year-old comedian let slip a bit of personal history about co-host Sara Haines that even Haines’ parents, seated in the audience, weren’t ready to hear.

    Joy Behar

As Whoopi Goldberg introduced Sara’s parents, special guests Sandy and Dick Haines, in the studio, Behar didn’t miss a beat. “Are you going to bring up that lesbian relationship you said you had or not?” she blurted out, adding, “Back at Smith [College]!” The camera quickly cut to the 47-year-old journalist’s parents, capturing their less-than-amused expressions.

Caught in a mix of laughter and embarrassment, Sara — who graduated from Smith in 2002 — responded with a quick, “Dad, earmuffs! Earmuffs!” The rest of the co-hosts, including Alyssa Farah Griffin and Sunny Hostin, appeared equally surprised. Griffin, 35, noted, “That was off-air she told us that,” to which Hostin, 56, pointed out, “Now, it’s on-air.”

Sara then quipped, “It’s a good thing my dad doesn’t always watch,” to which Whoopi, 68, responded, “Now he will.”

Shortly after the on-air segment, it didn’t take long for fans to chime in with their two cents.

“Hey, Joy… There are good people out here who do not talk about people’s sex lives for sport and personal aggrandizement. You are trash. Full on trash,” one person posted on X (formerly Twitter).

“you’re shameless @joybehar for your remarks in front of @sarahaines ‘ parents. she has 3 kids too. i used think you were funny. no more,” another user remarked.

A third person referred to the star as “two-faced.”

Sara tied the knot with lawyer Max Shifrin in 2014 and have since welcomed three children: Alec, 8, Sandra, 6, and Caleb, 5.

The Price Is Right set is getting a shakeup after five decades on television.

Starting next season, fans will see the long running game show air from a brand new location, leaving behind the Los Angeles famed Television City studio, which they’ve called home since the relaunch premiere in 1972.

According to Deadline, the move comes ahead of a planned $1.25 billion renovation at the Television City complex, forcing the game show to relocate to Haven Studios, a new facility in nearby Glendale. Fremantle, the producer of the CBS show, is an investor with a long-term lease.

Hackman Capital Partners bought Television City for $750 million from CBS Corp. in 2019. Other shows on the compound include The Late Late Show with James Corden, which is coming to an end in the spring.

The outlet reports that other productions, including on daytime soap The Young and the Restless, reality competitions Dancing with the Stars and American Idol, and Real Time with Bill Maher are all working to solidify moving arrangements, with Wayne Brady’s Let’s Make a Deal also moving to Haven.

“In light of Hackman Capital Partners’ plans to undergo a major renovation at Television City, the time has come to move television’s longest running game show, The Price Is Right, into a new home,” Suzanne Lopez, COO of Fremantle, said in a statement.

She continued: “While we bid a fond farewell to this cultural landmark, we are excited to say that we will be moving into a brand-new, state-of-the-art facility at Haven Studios. We can’t wait to have our fans ‘Come On Down’ to this new facility when we begin production on the next season this summer.”

The Price Is Right studio has been a popular tourist stop since its inception in 1972 with host Bob Barker, who later handed over hosting reins to Drew Carey in 2007. Prior to Barker’s version, an earlier show aired from 1956 through 1965 on NBC and later ABC with host Bill Cullen.

Jeopardy! viewers voiced serious concerns that the ABC game show has become ‘way too difficult’ after contestants were left powerless in the face of Ken Jennings repeatedly ‘brutal’ questions during Wednesday night’s episode.

Players Zach Eckstein, Nella Ballauer, and Jay Fisher racked up near record-breaking 21 triple stumpers after the host, 50, presented them with several tricky clues.

The Cybertalk category proved to be particularly difficult for the trio, with only one out of the five questions answered correctly.

One clue that left players dumfounded was: ‘It’s the two-word term for the physical separation of a computer system from others, and a good way to protect against hacking.’

Jay, a government relations manager from Illinois, incorrectly buzzed in with ‘fire wall,’ before Ken revealed the correct answer to be ‘air gap.’

Another clue from the category was: ‘It’s the diplomatic word for the standards governing an exchange of data between computer systems.’

Nella, a church secretary from Texas, wrongly answered ‘handshakes,’ while the correct response was ‘protocols.’

Final Jeopardy! also left the players drawing blanks when Ken asked: ‘In a 1980 National Book Award Winner, we learn this title character gets his name from the rank of his late dad – Technical Sergeant.’

All three contestants were wrong and failed to muster up ‘who is T.S. Garp?’ leaving Jay to drop to a final score of $5,300, Nella $1, and Zach $0.

Viewers were in shock at the ‘rough set of clues’ and claimed it was far too challenging.

‘I’ll never be on Jeopardy but man what a rough night to be on, category wise. Brutal,’ wrote one viewer on Reddit.

Another agreed: ‘God damn that was a rough set of clues. Not just for the contestants either – there were so many responses I’ve never heard of in my life.’

A third added: ‘Is that a record for the most unanswered questions? That was insanity.’

A third observed: ‘Wow, these contestants were stumped quite a bit tonight.’

‘Where are the writers getting these ridiculous obscure questions that no one knows?’ asked a fourth.

Wednesday’s episode contained a whopping 21 triple stumpers – meaning that all three players failed to answer a clue – but it is not the highest number.

During one game that aired last year, there were a record-breaking 23 triple stumpers.

[EMOTIONAL] Drew Carey Confesses When He Plans to Depart “The Price Is Right” – The Beloved Host’s Candid Revelation Touches Fans’ Hearts

Drew Carey shares how long he wants to continue hosting ‘The Price is Right’

Drew Carey still has a long way to go before his tenure as host of “The Price is Right” is mentioned in the same breath as those of his predecessor, Bob Barker, or “Wheel of Fortune’s” Pat Sajak, but he has designs on sticking around for the long haul himself.

With Sajak leaving “Wheel of Fortune” earlier this month, Carey is now the longest-serving game show host on television, leading “The Price is Right” since 2007.

“I just show up and punch the clock and hope I have a job every day,” he told TV Insider. “I don’t think in terms of I’m the longest one. I do have a goal: I want to keep going until I die. This is my 18th season. I’ve got to get the 35 and 41 so I can catch Bob Barker and Pat Sajak.”

Drew Carey hosting "The Price is Right."

Carey rose through the ranks as a stand-up comedian before landing his own sitcom, “The Drew Carey Show,” which aired for nine seasons between 1995 and 2004. He also enjoyed a long run on the improv series “Whose Line Is It Anyway?,” which ran for eight seasons from 1998 until 2007, the same year he took the reins on “The Price is Right.” When asked about the possibility he may one day retire, Carey said this job has been a blessing.

“Before, I was like, ‘Can I make it to five years? Can I make it to the end of my contract? Can I make it 10 years?’ The longest I’d been on TV was ‘The Drew Carey Show,’ nine years,” he said.

“Once I hit 10 years here, I was like, ‘Wow, that’s the longest I’ve ever had a job in my life. It’s such just a great part of my day, my year, my life. I can’t imagine giving it up.’ I don’t like CBS to know that (laughs), but it’s going to be a few years ’til my next contract negotiation. So maybe forget I said this. I can quit anytime I want!”

Drew Carey during the Showcase Showdown segment on "The Price is Right."

While Carey has made a home for himself on “The Price is Right,” he didn’t exactly have a high opinion of game shows while growing up.

“I watched them. I kind of looked down on it, honestly. Being a game show host, I was like, ‘Yeah, game show host …’ But it’s so much fun, and it’s great,” he said.

Carey, of course, replaced Barker on “The Price is Right” after Barker hosted the program for 35 years. Barker died in 2023 at the age of 99, and Carey said it’s important to carry on the legacy Barker created.

“Ever since the beginning, I wanted to be a good steward,” he said. “I learned that from when I was a church kid. You got to be a good steward of the Earth and good steward of your family and a good steward of your money.

“And I want to be a good steward of the show, so I don’t screw it up and wreck it from the very beginning. I was like, ‘Don’t mess it up.’ I just wanted to make sure it was always on.”

Bob Barker hosting "The Price is Right."

To that end, Carey has continued Barker’s tradition of ending each episode by reminding people to spay and neuter their pets, but he’s also thrown in encouraging words asking fans to look after their mental health.

“It’s important to me. I went through a rough couple of years, and I needed to put my mental health first. It was such a help for me to do that and not succumb to sadness or grief,” he said. “My therapist and my doctor helped me find tools to not go completely under. That’s all it is: tactics and tools you can learn to help your brain from not going down the drain.”

“Professional therapists and psychologists don’t have everything figured out, but they have a lot figured out,” he added. “Sometimes therapy helps. Sometimes reading a self-help book or talking to a friend. I feel better from being here. So I pass it along.”

Although hosts such as Drew Carey and Bob Barker became the faces synonymous with “The Price is Right,” there are other members of the crew that play an important part in making the show iconic. Apart from the interactions between the host and contestants as well as the audience, the camaraderie between the models and Drew Carey also keeps things entertaining. One of the most popular models on the show is Manuela Arbelaez and she once played a hilarious April Fool’s prank on the host.

She had snuck into the studio and gone straight to the make-up room without anyone noticing. Her objective was to look like a crew member and surprise Carey as he was hosting a game with a contestant on stage. “People don’t know what’s coming. People are not ready,” she said as per Monsters & Critics in a video released on Instagram by the show’s official handle. The make-up artists worked their magic and made her completely unrecognizable.

She even walked past Carey before the show started recording just to make sure that he didn’t understand what was going on. When the host was on the stage, Arbelaez popped up from behind one of the game’s panels just after Carey said, “Say hi to one of our most important crew members.” It took him a while but when the 66-year-old figured out what was going on, he simply couldn’t control his laughter.

Fans on social media loved the prank and joined the fun in the comments section under the video. “Even all that stuff can’t keep that cuteness from shining through,” one user called @billycarter1a commented. “Saw this episode and didn’t even realize it was Manuela. Nice disguise,” @jlosito59 added.

Manuela Arbelaez and Drew Carey share a special bond. They have both been on the show for several years now and more importantly, they have always had each other’s backs. This was visible when she accidentally revealed the correct price of a car to a contestant and ended up giving away the big prize. Something like that could have easily landed her in a soup and she was scared of the consequences she would have to face. However, she always had a friend in the host Carey and he stepped up to reassure her.

“I thought, A: This is my last day at work. B: They’re going to take it out of my paycheck every week. I thought that was it for me,” she said according to a report in E News. “Drew [Carey] could not have been more supportive. Same with the producers. They embraced it and said, ‘We’re not going to pick it out. We’re going to air it as it happened.”

Thankfully, everyone on the show believed that it was a hilarious moment, which later went on to become iconic in the show’s history. But in her time of fear and uncertainty, Carey was there to support her and that meant a lot to Arbelaez.

In the short video, host Drew Carey, 65, revealed the CBS show filmed its last episode at Bob Barker Studio 33 in Glendale, California.

The comedian said: “We’ve been here for 51 years in this historic stage. I used to tell people there was magic in the wood because of all the good vibes in this studio – all the laughs, all the fun.”

Drew continued: “Now we gotta go and start a new place and put our own vibes in the new place.”

The last episode from Bob Barker Studio 33 airs on June 26.

    THE COMMENTS

In the comments section, viewers were unsure about the new move, especially since the studio honored the retired host Bob Barker, 99.

One critic of the move said: “I’m not too happy about this decision to move out of where both hosts Carol Burnett and Bob Barker called this place ‘home’ on Hollywood.”

A supporter of the move added: “If they are going to a new studio, there needs to be a full audience, just like before COVID. That’ll make me happy.”

Another critic argued: “I personally think @therealpriceisright should stay where they are and go back to having a packed audience.”

A second supporter wrote: “I hope the new home will be something special and I still will continue to watch this great show.”

A commentator chimed in: “Aww…bittersweet! I was ‘raised’ in the Bob Barker studio!

“Congratulations on this new chapter! I hope to be able to come on down to the new studio!”

    REMEMBERING BOB BARKER

When the popular program debuted in 1972, Bob served as the host for over thirty years.

After Bobs retired from hosting in 2007, Drew took over the reins.

After his retirement, Barker made a few guest appearances from time to time and briefly returned to his hosting duties for an April Fool’s Day prank in 2015.

    INJURED ON SET

Recently, contestant Henry arrived on set with his right arm limp and his wife by his side.

While celebrating his big win at a game of Bonkers, Henry dislocated his shoulder on stage.

Drew shared: “Henry was celebrating and going ‘Woo,’ and he dislocated his shoulder.”

“So, he’s not going to be able to spin the wheel, but Alice is going to spin the wheel for him.”

A viewer recalled another incident in 1998, during Bob’s hosting run, “when a contestant named Scott hurt his knee while playing the Dice Game!”

The Price Is Right features some difficult games, and the stress of achieving a big win can result in surprising celebrations.

Host Drew Carey recently witnessed a contestant falling to the floor after he revealed her fate in a game.

The contestant, Renee, played what some fans might call one of the “toughest games” to appear on the game show: Pocket Change.

However, when prizes like a new car are on the line, contestants do their best to defy the odds and win.

At one point, Drew even asked Renee why she didn’t make things easy on herself.

In the Pocket Change format, the car’s price starts at 25 cents for the game but can increase with incorrect guesses.

Pocket Change has a challenging format to win

In Pocket Change, there’s also a gameboard with six empty number spots for the actual price of the car and six numbers on the board. When contestants guess a number’s correct spot in the car’s price, they get to choose an envelope from the board.

When they get a number wrong, the game price of the car goes up 25 cents each time.

The envelopes they randomly picked contain amounts of change from 0 cents up to two dollars, which they’ll need to be able to purchase the car. At the end of the game, the host reveals if they have enough change to buy the car.

Check out the video below to better understand how Pocket Change works.

Contestant fell to the floor after Pocket Change

Renee started Pocket Change with 25 cents. She got two numbers wrong in the price of the Toyota Camry on the gameboard, which raised the car’s price to 75 cents for the game.

That meant she needed 50 cents more from the random envelopes she picked.

Drew revealed the first envelope had just 10 cents, which gave Renee 35 cents. He opened the second envelope and then frowned after seeing what was inside.

“Why didn’t you make this easy?” he asked before revealing 5 cents.

Her final envelopes needed at least 35 cents to buy the car.

“Guess what? You won a brand new Toyota,” Drew said as he revealed 50 cents in an envelope.

At that moment, Renee collapsed face forward on the floor due to the stressful win. She kicked around a bit on the floor and rolled forward as Drew watched, smirking.

He revealed her final envelope had another 5 cents inside it.

Renee eventually got up and rushed to the car, hugging model Rachel Reynolds to celebrate.

Fans reacted to the contestant’s big TPIR win

The Price Is Right fans enjoy seeing contestants win big. Many reacted to Renee’s Pocket Change moment from the episode.

“I’m shocked that she pulled it off like that,” one commenter wrote, while another said, “Good going.”

“Pocket Change is by far one of the hardest and toughest games ever played in the Drew Carey era,” another fan commented.

Another individual commented that the “roll was funny” after Renee’s win in the game.

Pocket Change is somewhat new, debuting January 10, 2005, just two years before Drew took over as host for the retired Bob Barker.

Renee’s celebration made for quite a moment, as the game show always keeps fans entertained, rooting for contestants to win big.
