Shock on Set: Drew Carey Stunned by Contestant’s Brutally Honest Comment on The Price Is Right

‘Price Is Right’ Drew Carey Accepts Harsh Insult From PhD Student

Drew Carey on The Price is Right | YouTube

The Price is Right host Drew Carey is a comedian, so he knows when someone says something that is truly funny. This includes when the jokes are aimed directly at him. This happened on an episode of the game show this week when a PhD student was playing the game.

Here is what the student said to Carey and why it had him almost falling over laughing.

PhD Student Bashes Drew Carey On The Price Is Right

On a recent episode of The Price is Right, Drew Carey brought a new contestant named Lillian Brown to the stage. He saw she was wearing a Northwestern University shirt and asked if she had graduated from that college. She responded she was a third-year PhD student there.

Drew Carey - YouTube/The Price Is RightYouTube/The Price Is Right
Drew seemed very impressed as he repeated, “Oh, a PhD student.” He then looked at Lillian and said he was thrown out of college twice. “What’s the opposite of a PhD?” he asked. Without missing a beat, Lillian answered, “A talk show host.”

That caused Drew Carey to start cracking up as he bent over laughing. He responded, “You know what? I’m not smart enough to be a talk show host.” Lillian and the audience in attendance joined Carey in laughing, and it was a lighthearted moment in the episode. Before The Price is Right, Drew starred on The Drew Carey Show and then hosted Whose Line Is It Anyway?

Drew Carey attended Kent State University, but the school kicked him out for a low GPA. He served in the Marine Corps Reserve and eventually became a TV star. Kent State eventually gave Carey an honorary degree.

Drew Carey Sent A Contestant Home Later On The Same Show

While this was a nice moment, later in the show, Drew Carey cost a contestant a chance to move to the final round. This happened during the Big Wheel spin round of The Price is Right.
Drew Carey on The Price is RightDrew Carey on The Price is Right | YouTube
The goal is to spin the wheel twice and get closest to 100 without going over. However, the wheel has to go a full rotation. There was a moment in the past when a woman couldn’t get it to go around after multiple tries, so she was just eliminated on the spot.

In this episode, a contestant named Roni Gardner struggled to spin the Big Wheel. Her first spin landed on 90, but Drew pointed out it didn’t do a full spin. Drew helped her spin it and it landed on 15. Drew then helped again, and it hit 95, sending the contestant home.

“I’ll take the blame for that. Roni, I’m so sorry,” Carey said as she left.

What are your thoughts on Drew Carey’s reaction to the PhD comment by Lillian on The Price is Right? Are you enjoying Carey as the host of the popular game show? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

The Price is Right’s Drew Carey blasted for ‘stupid’ moment in most basic round as fans ask ‘can we stop?’

THE Price is Right host Drew Carey has upset fans over a supposedly basic moment at the wheel spin.

The game show’s Instagram account shared a brief clip from Thursday’s episode.

During the footage, contestant Lynn spun The Big Wheel for a chance to win $1,000.

Drew, 66, continued the tradition from his late predecessor, Bob Barker, yubi, and asked the player to give a shout-out to their family.

“You wanna say hi?” the host asked.

After spinning the wheel, Lynn turned to the camera and listed her loved ones.

“To my husband Greg, my daughter Allison, my son-in-law Ryan, and my grandson Beau,” Lynn said during her shout-out.

She did not realize the wheel stopped and landed on the 100 mark.

Drew interrupted and pointed his finger at the camera.

Lynn screamed and jumped up and down on the The Price is Right stage.

She went on to win $10,000 after the next spin.

“Lady has pinpoint control at the wheel,” the video text read.

“That’s how it’s done,” the caption stated.

    THE BACKLASH

In the comments section, critics slammed the wholesome part of the contestants saying hi to their family while the wheel is spinning.

“Can we stop with the ‘Say hi?’ and build up the excitement with the contestant as a good amount approaches? It’s so lackluster!” one critic trolled.

“Especially when the contestant goes on for like five minutes. It’s kind of stupid. And cringy!” another critic added.

“It takes their attention away from a life-changing moment in their lives when cash is about to enter the chat,” another critic argued.

    The Price is Right Hosts

The Price is Right first came on TV in 1972. Fans fell in love with the game show so much that it has been on for over 50 years. Throughout that time, the show has had a few different hosts. Find out who they are below.

Bob Barker – 1972 to June 2007 (also became executive producer in 1988)

Drew Carey – October 2007 to present

Dennis James – filled in for Bob in 1974 when he missed four episodes, also hosted the nighttime version

Craig Ferguson – 2014 April Fools Day Special

“If you’re still talking while the wheel is done, you should be disqualified!” a fourth person wrote.

“It’s annoying! This lady was so busy talking! [Lynn] didn’t even realize she was about to win!” a commentator chimed.

In 1972, Bob became the host and retired in 2007, which is when Drew took over.

    ‘SERIOUSLY?’

This is not the only time a contestant has angered viewers.

In late May, a player wasted his turn with an over-the-top bid.

Contest Nicholas had to guess the price of a set of workout equipment, including a vertical knee-raise station and a spin bike.

“I’m gonna say $1 million,” Nicholas said as he shocked the audience.

    “Seriously?,” Drew asked.

The actual retail value for the workout equipment was $1,798, which was nowhere near Nicholas’ guess.

One viewer blasted the “stupidest bid ever,” while another ranted, “$ 1 million for an exercise bike? Come on.”

Warning: this article contains SPOILERS for Shifting Gears episode 6.Shifting Gears has continued expanding its Tim Allen shared universe, but the latest guest star highlights the sitcom’s most concerning issue. Shifting Gears follows Allen’s Matt, a widower who owns a car restoration shop and unexpectedly reconnects with his estranged daughter, Riley (Kat Dennings). Riley brings along her children, Carter (Maxwell Simkins) and Georgia (Barrett Margolis), who complete the oddball family. While Shifting Gears follows a classic sitcom formula, the end product has had mixed success. With Shifting Gears season 2 still unconfirmed, Tim Allen’s newest title needs to carefully evaluate its weaknesses as they come to light.

Although the sitcom has raked in impressive early ratings (likely due to Tim Allen headlining the Shifting Gears cast), the critical response has been less than favorable. Arguably the most recurring issue critics took with Shifting Gears was the main character himself, claiming that Tim Allen’s new character was indistinguishable from his past sitcom roles. Allen previously led Home Improvement as Tim Taylor and Last Man Standing as Mike Baxter, both extremely popular titles that leave Matt Parker with generational shoes to fill. Unfortunately, Shifting Gears’s latest Allen-verse callback only highlights its Matt problem.

Shifting Gears Episode 6 Reunites Tim Allen With Last Man Standing’s Nancy Travis

Allen And Travis Were Last Man Standing’s Main Couple

Tim Allen as Matt and Nancy Travis as Charlotte talking in Shifting Gears episode 6

Shifting Gears has included sporadic callbacks to Allen’s former work, like Mike Baxter’s truck appearing in Shifting Gears episode 3. The sitcom abandoned subtlety in Shifting Gears episode 6 by casting Nancy Travis as Charlotte, a widow who encourages Matt to be open to future romances. From 2011 to 2021, Nancy Travis played Tim Allen’s wife (Vanessa Baxter) in Last Man Standing. With Shifting Gears marking Allen’s first network television role following Last Man Standing’s finale, it makes sense to include major co-stars from past hits. However, the mere presence of Travis underscores the difficulty of Shifting Gears maintaining originality. Tim Allen's Matt visiting his wife's grave in Shifting Gears episode 6. At first glance, Travis appearance is a fitting sendoff to Last Man Standing, with Charlotte helping Matt move on symbolically synchronized with Allen moving on from previous sitcoms with Shifting Gears. As Vanessa, Travis played Allen’s wife. As Charlotte, Travis played a character who helped Allen move on from his wife. Sadly, the casting distracted more than it aided, as seeing Travis and Allen interact on screen instantly diluted Shifting Gears episode 6 into a Last Man Standing reunion. Charlotte’s last line in the episode only pours salt in the wound.

Charlotte’s Joke About Matt Being Too Similar To His Ex Highlights How Similar Tim Allen’s Characters Are

    Matt Hasn’t Stood Out Enough

Despite Charlotte consistently urging Matt to return to the dating pool in Shifting Gears episode 6, she clarifies they can’t pursue a relationship with each other. Charlotte says Matt reminds her too much of “the last man [she] was with,” an obvious nod to Travis and Allen’s history on Last Man Standing. While a clever acknowledgment of the elephant in the room, the truth behind the statement is cause for concern. The poor initial reviews for Shifting Gears can easily be summarized in a simple phrase: Shifting Gears follows a Tim Allen character, not a character played by Tim Allen.

Shifting Gears failing to set itself apart from Tim Allen’s past sitcoms could be a death sentence.

Shifting Gears has backed itself into a corner with the frequent Tim Allen references, withholding the freedom that the sitcom needs to develop its own identity. It’s entirely possible that a significant portion of the audience didn’t expect anything groundbreaking from the Shifting Gears premiere, but if the comedy wants a chance at longevity, it needs to find what makes it unique. In a world where titles like Abbott Elementary are redefining genres and High Potential is fundamentally changing the lead actor’s imageShifting Gears failing to set itself apart from Tim Allen’s past sitcoms could be a death sentence.

How Shifting Gears Can Make Matt Parker Unique From Mike Baxter (& Tim Taylor)

The Sitcom Needs To Find Its Footing

Tim Allen as Matt, looking worried, and deep in thought, in Shifting Gears

While the continual nods to Last Man StandingHome Improvement, and even The Santa Clause are good for a quick laugh, Shifting Gears needs to build a foundation for itself before inviting further comparison to Allen’s old hits. Despite Matt’s character reading similar to both Mike and Tim, Shifting Gears already has a few key distinctions that can help solidify a unique presence— if the sitcom just lets it. The introduction of Matt’s dramatic grief storyline in Shifting Gears episode 4 perfectly displays how there are original aspects that just need to be elaborated on, independent of scene-stealing references.

    Actor

    Gabriel

    Daryl “Chill” Mitchell
    Stitch

Having emotional storylines helps to humanize characters, but Matt’s grief in Shifting Gears additionally helps him stand out. The more time Shifting Gears spends on exploring Matt as a character, the less he will pale in comparison to the decades-long reign of Mike Baxter and Tim Taylor. Though it may disappoint some, Shifting Gears needs to dial back its Allen callbacks. Unless the sitcom gives its characters time to cement themselves, Shifting Gears risks permanently living in the shadow of Tim Allen’s past roles, dooming the comedy and the rest of the cast in the process.

Reba McEntire Teases Romance With Rex Linn In New ‘Happy’s Place’ Trailer

Reba McEntire and her Happy’s Place co-stars shared a new sneak peek of the upcoming second season of the sitcom. The latest look offers the first glimpse of McEntire’s onscreen romance with her real-life fiancé, Rex Linn.

The new trailer shows McEntire and her former Reba cast mate, Melissa Peterman (who play Bobby and Gabby, respectively), talking about Linn’s character, Emmett. Bobbie acknowledges at the end of the clip that she thinks Emmett is “cute,” but says it’s a man’s responsibility to ask a woman on a date. Gabby counters, “that hasn’t been true in 30 years.” Bobbie exclaims, “I haven’t dated in 30 years!”

On Happy’s Place, Bobbie “inherits a restaurant from her late father, then learns she must share ownership with a newly discovered half-sister, creating awkward tension between the two,” the show’s description reads. The cast also includes Belissa EscobedoPablo Castelblanco and Tokala Black Elk. The series was created by Julie Abbott and Kevin Abbott. McEntire and Linn hinted at a budding relationship between their characters over the summer. Linn said at that time that “there’s rumors that maybe Emmett and Bobbie get together. I mean, we don’t know that for a fact. But it would be great for Bobbie, I mean, if she was with Emmett. I mean, that’s how I look at it. You gotta stay tuned.”

McEntire caught up with iHeartCountry to talk about her work in sitcoms earlier this year. She said at that time that the No. 1 secret to a successful comedy is “the writing. If it’s not on the page, it’s not on the stage.” She said her showrunner and head writer tells stories in “a great voice of comedy and heart. …That’s what I love so much about the Andy Griffith Show, (for example), how he raised Opie – I used that raising my son – but it is very important to have heart in there. You gotta laugh, but you gotta cry. You’ve got to hit all of those emotions.

“It connects people to the story, the experience, whatever’s happened, hopefully you learn something from it (and) you can use it in your own life,” McEntire added later. “Kevin Abbott, our showrunner, is so thoughtful that he will come in after we’ve done three takes of one scene, and he’ll give us new lines for the audience,” McEntire said of the mutual kinship between the cast and the viewers. “And some of those might take and is the one they take for the episode you see on television. But if not, it’s something just to entertain the audience. He’s there for everybody. And it entertains us, too.”

Last month, McEntire and Linn confirmed their engagement on the red carpet at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards, which took place at The Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, California. McEntire, 70, and Linn, 68, met on the set of Kenny Rogers’ The Gambler Returns: The Luck of the Draw in 1991. They reconnected while working on Young Sheldon in early 2020, and McEntire previously said on the Jennifer Hudson Show that her first date with Linn inspired lasting nicknames. The couple shared tater tots at a wine bar after dinner, and they became “tater tot” (McEntire) and “sugar tot” (Linn). McEntire said they’ve “been together ever since.”

McEntire said in an interview on Late Night with Seth Meyers  earlier this year that on Happy’s Place, Linn is “probably the sane one in the group. On the Reba show, I was the voice of reason, and now he is. So, I get to be in the whirlwind of chaotic stuff. I love it. I love it [giving herself permission to be ‘the crazy one’ this time]. …He’s a good guy. I like him a lot.”

Happy’s Place will return to NBC and Peacock on November 7. Watch the latest trailer below.

    Happys Place

Fans were delighted when Reba McEntire’s popular NBC sitcom Happy’s Place was renewed for a second season. And the upcoming installment has lots in store for viewers.

Created by Kevin and Julie Abbott, Happy’s Place follows Bobbie (McEntire), a woman who inherits a bar after her father dies. She later discovers she has a half-sister who also has a share of the inheritance. Per the official logline via People, when Happy’s Place reopens its doors in Season 2, a long-buried secret comes to light that will test loyalties and shake things up inside the tavern.”

“Through it all, Bobbie must remind everyone that family isn’t what you’re born into, but it’s the people that stand beside you, even in the workplace,” the official Season 2 description continues. A trailer for the upcoming episodes dives straight into Bobbie’s complicated feelings for Emmett (Rex Linn) after their big season one finale confession.

    happy's place 2

“Emmett is cute, but the men are the ones that are supposed to ask the women out,” Bobbie tells Gabby (Melissa Peterman). “That hasn’t been true for 30 years,” Gabby shoots back, prompting Bobbie’s frazzled response. “I haven’t dated in 30 years!” Another scene sees Bobbie spiraling to her sister Isabella (Belissa Escobedo), saying, “I’m starting to get a nervous sweat right now just thinking about it.”

Happy’s Place Season 1 featured cameos from McEntire’s Reba co-stars, and Season 2 promises to continue the trend with more reunions. “We definitely want to bring Joanna [Garcia Swisher] in,” Kevin Abbott said. “We’ve been talking to her. It’s a matter of timing for her.” Garcia played Reba’s daughter, Cheyenne Hart-Montgomery, in the sitcom. The actor went on to build a successful career of her own.

McEntire Loved Reuniting with Her Reba Co-Stars

McEntire previously talked about what it was like to share the screen with her Reba co-stars again. “It was very emotional,” she told People in May. “That’s the way it was for all of us to be so blessed. If you get one really good sitcom that lasts for six seasons, you think, ‘Man, I’ve got the golden ring. That’ll be it. Probably never do it again, because that’s magic in a bottle.’ We got it again and we realize it.”

“It’s real easy to step back into that with the crew. You love people you get to work together with that you’ve worked with before. It’s just so much easier than starting over,” the actor and country singer added. Along with McEntire, Peterman, and Linn, Happy’s Place also stars Belissa Escobedo, Pablo Castelblanco and Tokala Black Elk. McEntire also serves as an executive producer on the series.

Happy’s Place Season 2 premieres on NBC on Nov. 7, with new episodes available for streaming on Peacock the next day.

Reba McEntire Returns in Happy’s Place Season 2’s Trailer Teasing a Fun, Flirty Twist

The Happy’s Place Season 2 trailer is here, and it’s full of mayhem and romantic mischief.

If you thought Happy’s Place couldn’t get any more delightful, think again. The trailer for Season 2 of the NBC sitcom just dropped, and Reba McEntire is back to deliver the laughs once again.

    How to Watch

Watch the Season 2 premiere of Happy’s Place on Friday, November 7 at 8/7c on NBC and Peacock.

Season 2 of Happy’s Place — premiering November 7 on NBC — promises fresh twists and heartfelt hilarity as McEntire’s Bobbie continues navigating the misadventures of running her late father’s tavern. What began as a sentimental duty to her father soon spiraled into chaos after Bobbie discovered she wasn’t the sole inheritor of Happy’s Place: her father’s will revealed she was to split ownership with her younger half-sister, Isabella (Belissa Escobedo), whom she’d never knew of or met before. Their odd couple dynamic, mixed with the bar’s quirky staff and the endless rotation of dynamite guest stars, has audiences glued to their screens as Happy’s Place continues to deliver the classic sitcom charm.

As McEntire returns for Season 2 this fall on NBC, viewers can’t wait to check in on the Happy’s Place cast and see what’s in store for Bobbie and Emmett, played by McEntire’s real-life fiancé Rex Linn, after Season 1’s finale.

The Season 2 trailer of Happy’s Place is pure sitcom gold from start to finish. Between some humorous exchanges with her fellow bar staff, the trailer teases some of the misadventures ahead as Bobbie and Isabella are seen in full panic mode as they go after a mouse that’s gotten loose inside the bar — and their horrified reactions are about as hysterical as you’d expect.

“My family tree is more like a crazy bush,” Bobbie quipped before Isabella is seen screaming about a mouse running over her foot despite claiming to be the “calm and measured leader.” It doesn’t take long for Happy’s Place bartender Gabby (Melissa Peterman) to get involved.

“I just need a tiny syringe filled with knock-out juice,”

“You can’t stab a mouse!” Isabella tells her mid-crashout.

“It’s for you, Isabella!” Gabby screams in frustration.

Meanwhile, it seems like the will-they-won’t-they romance between Bobbie and Happy’s Place cook Emmett is heating up as Bobbie frets over making the first move.

“Emmett is cute, but the men are the ones who’re supposed to ask the women out,” Bobbie groans to Gabby.

“That hasn’t been true for 30 years,” Gabby explained.

“I haven’t dated in 30 years!” Bobbie exclaimed.

At Happy’s Place, everyone is family, and viewers can’t wait to see Bobbie explore this new chapter with her faithful staff and loved ones.

Snoop Dogg Left Speechless by Unexpected Moment with Niall Horan — Fans Can’t Stop Talking

Snoop Dogg Was Flabbergasted by His & Niall Horan’s Age Difference: “For Real?”

The two are becoming fast friends as Coaches on The Voice Season 28.

Rapper, producer, mogul, Doggfather and The Voice Season 28 Coach Snoop Dogg sometimes seems to be ageless, but even he was surprised to find out just how much time has passed since he entered the music scene. You can measure it not in hours but in Horans.

    How to Watch

Watch The Voice Mondays and Tuesdays at 8/7c on NBC and next day on Peacock.

During a casual moment between Artists during the Blind Auditions, Snoop’s fellow Coach Niall Horan asked him about his children, and Snoop answered that all four of them (Corde, Cordell, Julian and Cori) are grown, with the eldest, Corde, being 31. This caused Horan to remark that he, too, is 31, having been born in 1993.

“For real?” asked a shocked Snoop Dogg, who added that his first record came out that year. At 53, Snoop is 22 years Horan’s senior. The rapper was barely into his 20s when he began his professional music career. Meanwhile, Horan was famously a teenager when he launched his own singing career as a member of One Direction.

During a roundtable discussion with the Season 28 Coaches of The Voice, fans learned Snoop and Horan hadn’t worked together previously, but they’ve become fast friends. In fact, Snoop was eager to share a nice memory of Horan from filming the show.

“Me and [Horan] were walking the other day,” Snoop said. “All of a sudden, there was a little girl, and she just was crying hard. And [Horan] walked off to the side and gave her the comfort superstars do. And I said, ‘I remember having those moments in 1990.’”

In a 2024 People interview, Snoop revealed the adorable nickname his grandkids call him. “Papa Snoop, that’s who I am, and I love being that,” he explained. “I be dressing up for their birthday parties, like He-Man, Baby Shark, or whoever. I be complaining, but I love it. I love being a grandpa. It’s an accomplishment.”

During a visit to TODAY, he also shared his belief that grandparents can be easygoing with their grandchildren and spoil them a little. “So [grandparents] keep bending the rules for your grandbabies. Because they’re gonna love you forever, and they’re gonna always share secrets with you. And they’re gonna feel like they have a safe space with you. Let the parents keep being those mean, wall-putting-up barriers. You don’t have any barriers — you’re grandma and grandpa!”

“My grandkids, they know I got a bowl of candy when they come over. I got video games, I got whatever they want,” he revealed, adding, “You can get away with anything with me. Whatever your parents won’t let you do, come over here! You can’t eat candy? Can’t watch TV late night? You can’t do this? I’m the can-can man.”

  • “Unusual” Voice Artist Makes The Voice History with Never-Seen Blind Audition

“Unusual” Voice Artist Makes The Voice History with Never-Seen Blind Audition

An “Unusual” Voice Artist Just Made History with a Never-Been-Done Blind Audition

Welcome to The Voice, Dustin Dale Gaspard!

After 28 seasons, you’d think The Voice would have seen and heard it all. But that’s the beautiful thing about music: There’s always more to explore. During the October 6 episode of Blind Auditions, an Artist arrived with a new and unique skillset that got him a 4-Chair Turn and major praise from the Coaches.

    How to Watch

Watch The Voice Mondays and Tuesdays at 8/7c on NBC and next day on Peacock.

Dustin Dale Gaspard is a 33-year-old Cajun singer from Cow Island, Louisiana, an area with as many people as alligators (or, as Gaspard calls them, “swamp puppies”). He plays what he calls “swamp pup music,” which he describes as “rhythm-and-blues New Orleans-filled music” that’s also country western-influenced mixed with Cajun traditional styles. Gaspard is bilingual in Cajun French and lives in his car so he can travel from gig to gig, with The Voice being the biggest gig of all.

Gaspard’s Blind Audition represents “the first time Cajun French [has been] sung on The Voice,” he said. Here’s how his Blind Audition went:

Dustin Dale Gaspard hooked the Coaches with his wordless first note on The Voice

Guitar in hand, Gaspard stepped up to the mic with confidence, but he began his song, Sam Cooke’s “Bring It On Home To Me,” on another instrument. “He’s playing the harmonica already?” asked Coach Michael Bublé. Harmonica, guitar, English and Cajun French all went into the Blind Audition, and netted Gaspard chair turns from all four Coaches!

Calling him “proper unique,” Coach Niall Horan said he would’ve listened to Gaspard sing “Baa Baa Black Sheep” and begged,”Please pick me, I love you.”

“I’m from southeastern Oklahoma, so not far from where you are. You’re different. You’re unusual. You’re refreshing. And you can sing and play,” added Coach Reba McEntire. Bublé praised the Artist’s authenticity, while Coach Snoop Dogg referenced his own family in the American South and then sang back to him, “If you ever change your mind and think about leaving, leaving me behind, pick me, bring it on over to me.”

Ultimately, Gaspard went with Team Niall. In a December 2022 interview with NBC Insider, Horan said, “I love finding new talent online and things, so I really wanted to get involved and find a new crop of talent that we can nurture.” That definitely described the latest member of his team!

In a 2023 interview with NBC Insider, when both Horan and Blake Shelton were Coaches on The Voice, Horan said, “Blake, he’s like a dad to me. Y’know, he’s really helped me during the show. I’ve really enjoyed his company, and watching him has been a real honor. Me and the cowboy became good friends very quick. We realized we’re very similar people. For the good and the bad. He’s so funny — from the minute we met him.”

Shelton felt the same way, telling the producers, “I feel like Niall is going to take my seat on the show… I’m passing the baton on to my son.”
