The engine’s revving once again at Matt Parker’s garage — and yes, Tim Allen is behind the wheel. ABC’s breakout hit Shifting Gears has officially been renewed for Season 2, with all signs pointing to production ramping up soon. Allen himself confirmed the news with a simple post on Instagram stating: “Well well well……Back to work.” The multi-camera sitcom first premiered in January 2025 and quickly became ABC’s most-streamed comedy premiere ever, drawing a massive 17 million cross-platform viewers in just seven days. While live viewership dipped in later episodes, delayed viewership remained strong enough to ensure a second season, which fans have been clamoring for.

Created by Julie Thacker Scully and Mike Scully, with Michelle Nader as showrunner, Shifting Gears stars Allen as Matt Parker, a recently widowed gearhead who runs a high-end auto restoration shop. His world is turned upside down when his estranged daughter Riley (played by Kat Dennings) shows up on his doorstep with her two kids, Carter (Maxwell Simkins) and Georgia (Barrett Margolis), in tow.

The result was an extremely popular, traditional family sitcom that blends classic sitcom formula with modern-day complications and just the right amount of engine grease. Supporting the chaos are Seann William Scott as Gabriel and Daryl “Chill” Mitchell as Stitch, two of Matt’s longtime friends and coworkers who keep the garage — and the comedy — running smoothly.

‘Shifting Gears’ Is A Passion Project For Tim Allen

After dominating the sitcom world with Home Improvement and Last Man Standing, Allen wasn’t sure if he wanted to do another show. That changed when he read the pitch for Shifting Gears and saw that the garage was modelled after his own North Hollywood shop, as Allen told Closer Weekly.

“I love cars, and I have a shop in North Hollywood. The shop on the show is pretty much designed after mine. When they said, ‘What would you do if you did another one?’ I said, ‘If a guy had just lost his wife and he’s still able to be funny and [work on] a relationship with an older daughter … and I’d like to build hot rods!’”

Plot details for Season 2 are still under wraps, but Season 1’s finale teased plenty of lingering story stranders for the new episodes to explore, like potential romantic developments for Matt, Riley’s second chance at love, and more generational friction between Allen’s conservative (and Conservative) patriarch and the younger, tech-savvy members of the household.

Shifting Gears is streaming on Hulu now. Season 2 will premiere later this year.

Willie Robertson on Duck Dynasty: The Revival

    Spoiler Alert

[Warning: The below contains spoilers for Duck Dynasty: The Revival premiere.]

After eight years, A&E has brought back one of its most popular staples with Duck Dynasty: The Revival. The show premiered on June 1 with an episode that gave viewers the chance to catch up with the Robertson family. This first episode came just days after it was announced that Phil Robertson had died at age 79. The patriarch, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2024, was not part of filming but his presence was very much in evidence. And a poignant Phil moment certainly tugged at the heartstrings.

As Duck Dynasty: The Revival‘s premiere episode opened, it’s fall time in the swamps of West Monroe, Louisiana. CEO Willie Robertson has been out and about, away from Duck Commander headquarters. He also revealed it was about 18 months since he last went hunting with the guys.

A lot has happened since the flagship left the airwaves in 2017. The kids are older, and Willie is a grandpa now. The warehouse now houses several businesses all going at the same time including a museum, gift shop, podcasts, books and more. Willie’s wife Korie has been holding down the fort in different aspects of the business.

In scenes shot of Willie going to their empire headquarters, we saw daughter Bella in charge of the gift shop and helping at the museum. John Luke was involved in running the coffee business. He had come a long way since his scenes blowing stuff up, getting married and that memorable time where he got dental work on TV.

While making a stop in his office, Willie was shocked to find out it had been renovated into a counseling space for daughter Sadie’s Live Original ministry. She was recording an episode of her podcast “Whoa That’s Good” when Willie made an unexpected appearance. Willie came in at the point the hosts were discussing anxiety and mental health. Fans were given updates on the Robertson brood, which has expanded significantly by three spouses and seven grand babies.

If you’re keeping score, there is Jacob, Bella’s husband. There is Christian, Sadie’s husband, with their two daughters. John Luke and his wife Mary Kate have three children. Rebecca and husband have two kids with a third on the way. And, oh by the way, they all live on the same property. Youngest Rowdy was away at college. Will and his wife Abby live in Texas, but come home pretty frequently.

Willie found comfort relaxing in his replica office in the museum. The company was hosting a meeting, which included Martin informing the office of some housekeeping updates. He unveiled a schematic of the office for designated “places (bathrooms) you are permitted to poop.” Willie was up next where he announced he was fully semi-retired. He got thinking about who was next in line to wear the proverbial bandana.

We got a Miss Kay appearance at Rebecca’s baby shower. Willie’s mother led a prayer to mark the family gathering. Meanwhile in the Duck Call Room, Willie explained to Martin, Jay, Uncle Si and John David his full semi-retired announcement. He comes up with a plan to find out who would be the one to take over.

Willie sent a text for a mandatory meeting early at 4 a.m. for family duck hunting. The family arrived but clearly not at the designated time. They split into groups. Will already failed out of the gate by wearing a white shirt, which is a no-no when duck hunting. Willie actually arranged for skeet shooting, but he was only allowing the one shell to use. The kids fail to hit the target, but Willie showed them how it’s done.

We’re then taken to October 30, 2024 where Rebecca gave birth to Xander, Willie’s newest grandson. Willie and Korie are making food for the family when Rebecca and John Reed get back from the hospital with their newborn. Korie was concerned about how Willie was acting as they are now in a place in their lives with aging parents while taking care of kids and grandkids. She thought it might also have to do with Willie’s now late father Phil and his recent Alzheimer’s diagnosis. Maybe it got him thinking about his own legacy. It was a poignant moment for fans. Just when Korie thought Willie was opening up, he teared up saying, “Those are the strongest onions burning the crap out of my eyes.”

“Faith, family and ducks in that order,” Korie explained. “That’s the way we’ve always been and live our lives.” The other family also thought Willie was acting weird. He concluded that maybe he didn’t need to find a new him, and that he was doing fine. There was the realization he would be fine if the kids don’t grow up like him. He felt now that he was fully semi-retired, this left a lot of time on his hands. There were things he thought about doing, and we’re about to find out what they are in future episodes. Something tells me the proverbial feathers are about to fly. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Matt Iseman, Zuri Hall, and Akbar Gbajabiamila in American Ninja Warrior - Season 17

    Q&A

    Trae Patton/NBC

The bar was raised pretty high last year on NBC’s American Ninja Warrior after Vance Walker earned his second consecutive win. This story of the 19-year-old with cerebral palsy who overcame all the odds to secure another million dollar prize tugged at the heartstrings. It’s these kinds of moments why the reality competition series has continued to thrive now going into Season 17.

Once again here to call the ninja action are the dynamic duo of Matt Iseman and Akbar Gbajabiamila, along with co-host Zuri Hall. The journey for these athletes from all walks of life start in Las Vegas for the qualifiers and semifinals. It all culminates with the national finals where the fastest ninjas in the country will face a high-stakes course in side-by-side and head-to-head races. Given the changes, Mt. Midoriyama is not back this season to make room for the suspenseful racing action. The finals will also include a new bracket style tournament. In the end, there can be only one ultimate champion who will walk away with the grand prize and title of American Ninja Warrior and $250,000.

We caught up with Matt Iseman and Akbar Gbajabiamila to break down what stands out this season.

With Vance winning twice in a row, what kind of impact would you say this has on the competition?

Matt Iseman: The dominance is impressive, but I also think it also makes it feel very close to see someone win it back-to-back and show that it can be done. As good as Vance is, a lot of these ninjas have beaten him before. They know he is incredible, but many know they can hang with him. I think coming into Season 17, particularly with these ninjas knowing they will be going head-to-head and being tested. I think a lot of them are coming in more excited and feeling they are closer to winning than ever before. We were so excited to see how this season unfolds, and it exceeded our wildest dreams.

Akbar Gbajabiamila: I think it put a lot of the other ninjas on notice to bring their A-game. They’ve always done this, but there is something about competition when you know somebody is a back-to-back champ. They have a target on their back, but it also gives you the extra motivation. Like how did this guy go back-to-back. What we’ve seen this season is do things we’ve always known they could do, but actually see it in reality and unfold in front of everyone. It was quite spectacular, which is why we are really excited about what will unfold this season.
    American Ninja Warrior

What can you say about this year’s obstacle slate?

Matt: The ninjas had to know, “I’m not sure I can do this, but I have to take these chances because I know the athletes I’m competing against are so good.” The Falling Shelves, what a brutal obstacle that is under the best of conditions.

Akbar: This did a different type of pressure on these athletes. It showed them what they were capable of. This year the side-by-side continues to add to the drama. I think what also adds to this beauty of competition is this year for the first time all of the competition, semi-finals, qualifying, finals, it all happens in one city. It’s not you’re flying off to this place and that place. We have it all happening all at once. That’s another element of pressure because you’re used to the same cadence. This year we threw off the cadence. So, the cadence is different, that means the competition looks different. We have a lot of side-by-side racing. It’s really fun this year. I think this is something the fans will have a massive response to.

    Any new additions?

Akbar: We actually brought back a lot of the old ones, which is really cool. We have some throwbacks because we wanted to pay homage to some of the throwback ninjas. We think back to Ryan Stratis, who started in Season 1. What was interesting is what we call throwback and paying homage to the past. Also, some of the ninjas weren’t even born when Ryan was first competing in his very first season. They had a chance to see “new obstacles” to them because these were things they had only seen on TV, but they had never competed on. So, that was fun to watch as well.

Matt: We brought back Cannonball Alley. That was the one Kevin Bull made famous in Vegas. It was 15 ninjas who had gone 15 and failed. Then Kevin Bull goes invented and locks his legs and throws a flip off it. This was one of those moments that were like, “What did we just see?” We’ve never seen that type of innovation before solving an obstacle. It was so great. Then to have that obstacle back was really cool. We knew ninjas were entering this new phase, so let’s pay respects to ninja’s past as we celebrate the future.

These ninjas always have such captivating stories. What one stands out to you right now this season?

Akbar: Gary Weiland to me was the story. He is going to be in our premiere episode, so you get a chance to know this story up close. For those who didn’t catch his story beforehand, he had a surgery that kind of went wrong and had some complications that led to him becoming an amputee. He had some struggles in previous years, but it had gotten better throughout the years. He had his struggles, but came out this year where he absolutely refuses to quit. His intestinal fortitude and everything he has gone through in his personal life.

For him, to come out as an amputee and not really identify as an amputee. He identifies as an athlete. Here’s a guy who was a fire marshal and 44 years old. He comes out there and competes hard. His story is something you fall in love with. Matt says this all the time. You look at certain athletes and some of the certain circumstances they’ve gone through. It makes you think, “So, what’s your excuse?” You have no excuse when a guy like Gary competes at a high level with the format changing, he came out to race and compete. When you see him in the very first episode, you’ll fall in love with his story.

Matt: Amen. For me, what was great seeing in Season 17 the story of families expanding. Without spoiling too much, you see the next steps of the Bergstrom Bunch and the Beckstrand, Behrends out of Iowa. You see them grow and expand the influence they’ve had on ninja. It’s really fun to see as we’ve spent so much time getting to know these families. The other thing that was cool was having the Ninja Kidz on, who are one of the biggest YouTube sensations around. They do stunts, karate, all this stuff. They put their kids on the show and put their names on the line to compete. It was awesome to see how that turned out. So, if you’re a fan of the Ninja Kidz, you’re definitely going to love seeing them on Ninja Warrior.

Akbar: Not only the Ninja Kidz, but Matt and I have had private conversations in the booth where we talk how we can’t wait for the other Ninja kids to compete because you have the relationships with the families that have grown through the years. We’ve had ninjas dating ninjas. Ninjas marrying ninjas. Then once they start having kids and what that is going to look like. You don’t see many sports like that where two athletes in the same kind of sport have these families. Matt and I can’t wait to call the runs 15 years down where we’re saying, “We remember your mama and daddy ran this course.”

Matt: Who is going to be our Ken Griffey Jr.?

As you’re talking about the family, I’m surprised we haven’t seen an American Ninja Warrior reality show following a few of these families.

Matt: Scott, my April Fools’ joke was we were going to do American Ninja Lovers. I put it out because, and this is true, we’ve had more successful romances than any of the reality dating shows. So, I said we’re going to do American Ninja Lovers. Honestly, the response was, “This is awesome and going to be a great show. Maybe Ryan Stratis will find a girl.” I think you’re onto something I think we need to do the Ninja Dating WorldObstacles of the Heart.

You already have the name and tagline!

Akbar: Matt, you got me too.

Matt: Akbar was like, “Hey, why wasn’t I contacted about this show?”

Akbar: I was like what? This is happening. I sent this out, then I noticed it was April Fools. It was a great idea.

Matt: You know what, that’s payback for my birthday prank, buddy!

Matt Iseman, Akbar Gbajabiamila in American Ninja Warrior - Season 15 (NBC)

You two have clearly formed quite the bond over the years. That shows on TV as much as it does in these conversations.

Akbar: I will say this, Matt is a true friend. We don’t have to spend every waking time together. I think there is a lot, not only commonality, but our friendship goes beyond work. Sometimes you can feel a little betrayed because you could get sucked into the idea you have a relationship at work and that will follow you in your personal life when most times really it’s a transactional relationship. Whereas I don’t believe Matt and I’s relationship is transactional. We’ve grown together, experienced things together. Whether it’s on the show or off camera as well. I hold that relationship very dear because I know that those relationships can be hard to come by when you’re talking about work relationships. Most people it’s like, “Once you’re done you’re done. I’m out. I don’t have any more time for you.” That’s not the case for us.

Matt: There is a tremendous amount of respect. I got married in September just before we filmed Season 17. One of the highlights was Akbar was there. He literally, as soon as we said I do, had to go to the airport because he had to do football the next morning. He wanted to be there and wasn’t going to miss it. It’s one of those things where I love working with Akbar, but I respect him so much more as a human being. It has really been a blessing to have met this guy and to get to the show with him. At the end of the day, we both share the feeling that we are grateful to be part of this show. While my athletic endeavors didn’t end up at the high level, we both feel like athletes with a heart. I think we both respect someone who does something in a performance that’s really exceptional. We have a front row seat for people having moments in their lives they didn’t know they were even capable of. Akbar and I are there losing our minds because we feel it. We see it in their faces. It’s so fun for us to be a part of that.

What stands out about this season?

Matt: I just think once you see the racing and see the drama. Without giving spoilers, there are situations where you think, “Oh my God. It’s over. A career is over.” Then, all of a sudden, the impossible miracle happens and that person is resurrected. It’s filled with dramatic moments, these incredible races. The respect among the athletes. I think it’s a new type of ninja.

Akbar: There is a lot of drama for your mamas too. Mamas are going to love it. Everyone will love it. You’re getting to see when we are setting up the stories of what we’ve traditionally seen and getting invested in the athletes. Then we get into the racing portion, come on! It’s over. You’re never going to un-see Ninja when you see it like this. When you see Ninja in this format, this is a format that ushers it into the new age of television and competition. I think we know this to be true that when you look at the landscape of entertainment and Hollywood, the one thing that has really stayed up is live sports. When you look at the live sport element of this because we are shooting this live and seeing the competition, this ushers in this new era of competition for American Ninja Warrior.. This ain’t your granddaddy’s Ninja Warrior. This is new. This is the drama for your mama Ninja.

The Jeopardy! host shared a screenshot of the golf clubs, when the auction ended (June 18), and the current bid ($450). However, the site estimated that the golf clubs would go for $600 to $800. At the time of publication, the current bid is $1,500.

About the set, the site reads, “A set of golf clubs with accompanying bag, from the home of David Lynch. The brown leather bag is Fairway by Leeds brand from New York, New York. The included clubs are 11 Callaway Big Bertha Irons including a War Bird Putter with leather/sock cover, a Thunderbolt by Carbunart #1 driver with titanium face and 10.5 degrees of loft, a JAWS Fury Utility Rescue Club by Cobalt with cover.”

George Wendt, best known as Norm Peterson on Cheers, has died at the age of 76.

According to the actor’s family, he died peacefully in his sleep on the morning of Tuesday, May 20. His death was confirmed by a representative who shared a statement. “George was a doting family man, a well-loved friend, and confidant to all of those lucky enough to have known him. He will be missed forever. The family has requested privacy during this time.”

In addition to being one of the regular bar patrons on the NBC comedy, Wendt is also famously the uncle of comedy star Jason Sudeikis. During his years on Cheers, Wendt was nominated for six Emmys for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy, and he delighted viewers across 11 seasons of the sitcom, which aired between 1982 and 1993.

He then returned to the Windy City to enroll in the Second City comedy troupe’s acting workshop, for which he performed from 1974 to 1980. Melissa Peterman Reveals Which Celebs Have Asked to Appear on 'Happy's Place,' 'Reba' Cameos and More

Happy’s Place Season 2 may not arrive for a while, but star Melissa Peterman is already looking ahead to the future as she gears up for the next chapter of her character Gabby’s story.

Peterman visited the TV Insider studio to discuss her role as the bartender who is best friends with Reba McEntire‘s Bobbie, as well as reflect on some of Season 1’s highlights, like big guest stars, teases for Gabby’s backstory, and more, in addition to planning for the future.

As viewers came to learn over the season, Gabby has a lot of stories and lore, but we have yet to dig too deeply into her backstory. That’s something Peterman is eager to remedy in Season 2. “I keep a little… bible of information I get because you are creating this whole new character, and they drop these little bombs,” Peterman pointed out, “[And] I’m like, What was her childhood like?”

As Peterman recalled, there was one occasion where Gabby says something like, “It’s possible to love somebody and totally resent them, that’s what my mom taught me.” Peterman clings to remarks like that for building Gabby’s backstory as a performer. “That’s a lot of information to have about how she grew up,” Peterman noted of these little gems of dialogue Gabby drops from time to time.

“I assumed because of the way we talk about what my mother…. I assumed that my parents were divorced,” Peterman said of her character’s outlook and family status. “I got some information in one of our [recent] episodes, that my parents are not divorced, which is surprising, and I’m excited.”

She added, “I think that [showrunner] Kevin Abbott has some ideas to explain that.” As for whether we’ll see Gabby’s parents onscreen or not, Peterman didn’t know for certain, but she’s already starting a campaign to get Hacks Emmy-winner Jean Smart on as her TV mom: “I’m going to throw it out there. You didn’t ask, [but my] dream person to play my mother is Jean Smart, because we talk about Gabby’s mom [and how] she is formidable.”

Whether that will come to pass remains to be seen, but in the meantime, Peterman is delving into other Season 2 hopes and plans, including which Reba stars she’d like to see visit Happy’s Place barroom, in the full video interview above. Stay tuned for more.

If you remember back in February and March, Kelly Clarkson was gone for a while from her daytime talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show. A number of celeberties had to step in for the singer and host while she was away. And her long absence lead to rumors that she could be leaving the series and actually be replaced by Hoda Kotb. Well, the former Today host is stepping in to clear up those rumors now.

Hoda Kotb is not replacing Kelly Clarkson

At the end of May, Kotb went back to her old stomping grounds and was a guest on the Today show to promote the new avenue she’s now taking part in, building Joy 101. Part of the wellness journey is the launch of a new app that includes personalized meditation sessions, courses, and more, per Deadline. While on the visit, she was asked about the rumors she’d be coming back to daytime television, though that would replace The Kelly Clarkson Show. Here’s what she had to say:

“Delete. Not true. Do you think, if I ever came back to TV, do you know where the only place where I would ever come back to is? Right here!”

Kotb was on the Today show for eight years, having been co-host since 2018 and officially left it behind in January of this year. Clarkson has been on the air as host of her own show since 2019, and is still going strong now. Since her absence, she’s returned full-time to continue entertaining us with great guests, and treating us with a musical performance from her many times.

Things can get out of hand when rumors like this take off and sort of take a life of their own. You know, celeberties are real people too and need to step away from work sometimes to take care of personal matters just like anyone else. Any one of us who has a job would do the same. If the American Idol alum needed to step back, she should be able to without these rumors circulating. And then roping Kotb into it as well?

I mean, she’s right. Sure, she could have her own talk show. I would still watch that! Though as Kotb said, if she ever wanted to return to television the most obvious choice would be to go back to the place where she clearly still loves and enjoyed building a good chunk of her career.

Let’s just support both of these great gals in their respective ventures – Kotb in the new wellness world and Clarkson still rocking it as a daytime television host. In fact, the former Today host very recently visited The Kelly Clarkson Show. Check out a clip from the episode below!

Whenever you’re in need of a good laugh, turning on an episode of Happy’s Place will do it for you. The comedy sitcom ended its first season back in March, and luckily, we haven’t seen the last of Bobbie McAllister and the quirky crew at the tavern just yet. NBC renewed Happy’s Place for a second season in February, and the new installment is confirmed to premiere this fall. More specifically, sometime in November.

Although November is still far off from now, fans have something extra exciting to look forward to. Season 2 might finally deliver the Reba cameo they have been hoping for! In a recent interview with Us Weekly, series star Reba McEntire revealed that her former Reba co-star JoAnna Garcia Swisher is “definitely” set to appear on the show. While she doesn’t specify if her appearance would be for the upcoming second season, it’s still a promising sign that fans could soon see the beloved reunion they’ve been waiting for.

“JoAnna is so busy. She’s producing, she’s got three movies and she’s [working on] Sweet Magnolias. So she is a very busy lady but she said she’d definitely be there.” – Reba McEntire

Swisher played the role of Cheyenne Hart, the oldest daughter of McEntire’s Reba character in Reba. Throughout the six seasons, viewers watched as Cheyenne grew from a naive, pregnant teenager into a more mature and responsible woman juggling motherhood, marriage, and college. Of course, she wouldn’t have made it through all those ups and downs without her mother’s love and support.

Sadly, it’s unknown what character Swisher will play when she joins the Happy’s Place cast. However, given her history with McEntire and their undeniable on-screen chemistry, we’re hoping she lands a role that gives them plenty of scenes together. Perhaps, she could show up at Bobbie’s tavern as a quirky new regular, or maybe she could end up being another long-lost relative.

Now that would be hilarious, given that Bobbie has just recently learned she has a half-sister whom she’s still getting to know. One thing’s for certain. If this long-awaited cameo makes it into Happy’s Place season 2, it’ll be one of the most talked-about moments of the show’s return.

Happy’s Place has had its fair share of Reba alums on the show already. Besides McEntire herself, Melissa Peterman, who plays bartender Gabby in the comedy sitcom, also starred alongside McEntire in Reba as Barbra Jean.

There have also been guest appearances from Steve Howey and Christopher Rich. Howey played Van Montgomery, Cheyenne’s boyfriend-turned-husband in Reba, while Rich portrayed Brock Hart, Reba’s cheating ex-husband. With the confirmation that Swisher will be joining the Happy’s Place cast in some capacity, it seems the show is embracing its Reba roots even more.
