‘The Price Is Right’ Did Producers Retire Popular Game?

Drew Carey on The Price is Right - YouTube

Long-time fans of The Price is Right usually notice when long-time games end up missing from the show. Recently, a fan noticed that one specific game had been missing for a long time and wondered if it was retired from the show. However, this isn’t the only game that has been gone for a while, and there is a reason some games are missing in action.

Here is what game the fan was talking about and why it might be missing from The Price is Right.

Fan Wonders Where The Price Is Right Game Went

The Price is Right has been on TV for decades. Since its inception, 112 games have appeared on the popular game show, and 78 of them remain in its rotation. However, while some games rarely appear in the rotation, others have been missing for a long time, and fans believe they might be retired.

Someone took to social media and mentioned one game they have not seen in a long time. They wrote:

“I’ve noticed they haven’t played Shopping Spree in forever and was wondering if they may have actually retired it for some reason? I hope not because it’s one of my favorites…but I don’t even know if they’ve played it once this season…I don’t remember it if they did.”

This led another fan to comment that Shopping Spree last appeared on the game show on November 4, 2024. This means it has only been less than four months since then. However, another fan mentioned something that has come up before.

In Shopping Spree, a player is shown four prizes along with a dollar amount. To win all four of the prizes, a player has to choose three prizes one by one, and their total price can’t exceed the dollar amount shown.

They said that Shopping Spree is one of the games on hiatus right now because of storage issues. They also mentioned that Safe Crackers and Eazy as 1-2-3 are on hiatus for these storage issues.

What Is The Price Is Right Storage Issue?

Fans have mentioned before that The Price is Right has a storage issue. Many of the games are large and have to be put together, and transporting them to the studio takes time. With the bigger games, it is often more economical not to bother with them for now.

According to some fans, there is a “props storage issue.” One person mentioned that the show has “very limited storage space.” When it comes to a gamer like Safe Crackers, this is a massive set to transport to the studio. They said the storage space with the games is two miles away from the studio. Another fan said they couldn’t store all their games at the studio since there is not enough room.

Safe Crackers is a game where a person has a giant safe and has to choose a three-digit combination that would open the safe and reveal both prizes.

‘Price Is Right’ Model Reveals Getting Fired After Huge Accident Left Her Scarred

The Price is Right with Bob Barker | YouTube

A former Price is Right model has shared a story about her time on the game show. However, her experience was less than happy. She suffered an accident on the show, and then the show fired her a decade later. According to the former model, she said she was scarred after the experience.

Here is what the model said about what happened concerning her accident and later, when the show fired her without an explanation.

Former Price Is Right Model Explains Accident On Set

Janice Pennington, 82, was one of the original Barker’s Beauties during Bob Barker’s tenure on The Price is Right. She was a model on the show from 1972 until 2000. However, in the middle of her time on the show, she suffered from a terrible accident on the set.
Janice Pennington on The Price is Right | YouTubeJanice Pennington on The Price is Right | YouTube
In 1988, Janice was working on The Price is Right when a terrible accident occurred. A camera knocked her off the stage, and she fell into Contestant’s Row. The fall knocked her unconscious, and she ended up being taken to the hospital. The show continued after a 45-minute delay.

The accident happened when the cameraman swung his camera in the wrong direction. Janice ended up needing two surgeries after the fall. This resulted in one of her shoulders becoming shorter than the other. She finally returned to the show in November, five months after the accident, and she made a full recovery.

The fall also left her with scars. The game show then wouldn’t allow her to wear swimsuits because of the scars. Janice eventually sued CBS and won $1.3 million in a jury trial based on her injuries.

Price Is Right Fired Model Without An Explanation

However, things got worse for her in October 2000. After working on The Price is Right for 29 years with Bob Barker, the game show fired her. She said that, despite almost three decades of working together, Bob Barker refused to speak to her again after her dismissal.

“He never said a word. My manager called Barker the next day and left a message, but he never returned our call,” Janice revealed (via The Los Angeles Times). Her final appearance on the show never mentioned her departure, and she was mostly dismissed without the show acknowledging her.

However, for his part, Barker said he was told not to be involved by his bosses. Pennington had to sign a non-disclosure agreement with the network after a lawsuit settlement. Barker said, “On the very day Janice signed the agreement I left a message on her answering machine and told her that I wanted to explain why I had not called even sooner. And she has not returned my call.”

Barker also denied Janice was fired. He said she just didn’t have her contract renewed.

What are your thoughts on the story of Janice Pennington on The Price is Right? Were you aware of her story? Does it sound like she had a right to hold a grudge against the game show? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Drew Carey Spotted Out With OnlyFans Model

Drew Carey was recently seen out having lunch with a model from OnlyFans. An inside source has also recently shed some light on the outing. The Price is Right host was actually said to have had quite a history with the model.

The Price Is Right Host & The Model Were Seen Together In Los Angeles

Carey has had a prolific career. He was the star of his own sitcom, The Drew Carey Show, the host of The Price is Right, has made appearances in various films and music videos, and even served in the United States Marine Corps.

Recently, Carey could be seen out with an OnlyFans star. Reportedly, the two actually have a bit of history with each other.

The Daily Mail had identified the model as Niki Skyler. The two were seen having lunch at Swingers Diner in Los Angeles back in Thursday. Skyler had been Penthouse‘s Pet of the Month in April 2017.

The two were having lunch together. Carey could be seen wearing a blue plaid shirt, jeans, and sneakers. Skyler was wearing a black top and matching pants, with her hair tied up in a ponytail.

Carey and Skyler have known each other for years. However, an inside source claimed that their relationship was platonic. They noted, to Carey, Skyler is “just a friend. They’ve been friends for about a decade.”

Carey previously spoke with Us Weekly about his love life. At the time, he shared he isn’t too interested in dating after the death of his ex-fiancée, Amie Harwick. The two were engaged in 2018, with the two remaining friends after their breakup.

Drew Carey Previously Shared Why He Isn’t Interested In Dating Right Now

In 2020, Harwick was found murdered. Her ex-boyfriend Gareth Pursehouse pled guilty, but was later convicted of her murder and was sentenced to life in prison without parole. Harwick was 38 at the time of her death.

Back in February, Carey noted, “It destroyed me for a while. I still don’t date.” He continued, “I have women I go out with and spend time with, but it’s all platonic, and I don’t care about anything else. Amie’s death really affected everything.”

The Price is Right host also shared how many of Harwick’s friends reached out to him after her funeral. He noted, “I was so moved by it. They’ve now become some of my best friends.”

    “I also
got to reconnect with her mother, father and brother. We held each other up through the funeral and the trial. Now Amie’s memory and the things she lived for keep us going.”

During the conversation, Carey noted how much these female friendships mean to him. He noted, “I have this great female friend group that I cherish, and I’m godfather to several sets of kids from the group. We hang out together, went on vacation together and we talk to each other every day. That’s the biggest blessing in my life right now.”

Drew Carey is known for making jokes in his role as host of The Price is Right, notably when he recently asked to marry a contestant. During a recent episode, Carey made a joke concerning one of the show’s models. However, his comments ended up rubbing some fans the wrong way.

One Price Is Right Contestant Got A Chance At A New Car

Throughout the show, the models help to reveal prices and celebrate with contestants. Some of the current models on the show include Manuela Arbelaez, Amber Lancaster, and Rachel Reynolds.

In one recent episode, a contestant got to try her luck with the “Let ‘Em Roll,” getting the chance to win a new car. Similar to Yahtzee, the game involves five dice. Contestants get one roll with the chance to earn more by guessing the relative price of grocery items.
Drew Carey - YouTube (1)Drew Carey – YouTube
The player can win a car if the dice reveals a car symbol. However, they can also earn cash amounts. After landing on cash, one contestant, Michele decided to roll again instead of walking away with the money.

This spurred Carey to reveal a little about one of the show’s models. “She’s gonna roll again. Thank you, Manuela,” said Drew as the model collected the dic. He then revealed, “Manuela used to work in a casino in Colombia…when she was young.” He also joked that she couldn’t talk about it.

In the end, Michele ended up winning the new car she wanted after all. Drew congratulated her and even high-fived Arbelaez.

Some Fans Came To Manuela’s Defense Online

On social media, some fans took issue with Carey talking about Manuela’s previous line of work. As one fan suspected on instagram, “He has beef with Manuela.”

Another wrote, “For real! ‘When she was young,’” pairing it with a skull emoji. One commenter also replied, “People need to stop making fun of Manuela Arbelaez when she’s on TPIR.”

As another shared, “This man just roasting Manuela for no reason.” One commenter especially came to the model’s defense, saying “Manuela is a SAINT! He needs to show some damn respect!”

As noted by Monsters & Critics, Arbelaez was born in Colombia and has since become a naturalized American. Back in 2008, she competed in The Price Is Right Model search. She didn’t win, but made such an impression on the production that she became a permanent model for the show anyway the following year.

Former ‘Price Is Right Host’ Drew Carey Says He No Longer Dates After Murder Of Ex-Fiancée Amie Harwick

Former Price is Right host Drew Carey has recently been open about his mental health and struggles following the murder of his ex-fiancée, Amie Harwick.

Despite being known for his happy-go-lucky personality, Carey spoke about his refusal to date and learning to move on following the tragic death of Harwick, who was murdered by her ex-boyfriend, Gareth Pursehouse.

“Her death still affects me and my ideas about relationships and intimacy,” Carey told Us. “It was all damaged by our first breakup, and then, the day before she died, she texted me.”

According to Carey, the couple went through a nasty but necessary breakup. “I couldn’t think about her or see a picture of her; I didn’t want to be reminded,” Carey said.

Hardwick texted Carey about forgiveness and asked if they could talk. Carey responded by texting that he loved her and agreed to meet up with her the following week. “I heard from one of her friends that she was in tears about me saying that I still loved her,” he recalled.

However, the reconciliation would never come, as Pursehouse murdered Harwick the next day. “It destroyed me for a while,” Carey continued, “I still don’t date, I have women I go out with, but it’s all platonic.”

Harwick’s funeral and connecting with her friends and family helped Carey with the healing process.

Pursehouse was found guilty of murder and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Prosecutors believe that a chance encounter at a red carpet event led Pursehouse to break into her home on Valentine’s Day 2020, attack Harwick and throw her from her third-floor balcony. She later died from her injuries at a nearby hospital.

In an Instagram video, Ryan and Vanna, 68, revealed they are breaking from show tradition when it comes to casting.

“It’s a friendly wheel rivalry all this week as we introduce something new,” Ryan said.

Vanna added, “For the first time, our groups of contestants know each other. They are all wheel fans who watch the show together.”

Ryan then continued, “And tonight not only are they playing for cash and prizes, but also for the ultimate victory: bragging rights.”

The caption of the video read, “We’re spicing things up this week with a brand new way of playing wheel!”

Monday night’s episode featured a group of firefighter friends.

    FAN REACTION

Viewers turned to Reddit to express their feelings on the casting change, as they were divided on the new segment.

“I really enjoyed the dynamic of them all being friends, and while I know it shouldn’t be the norm, I’d love to see it more often. I have never seen it before,” one fan wrote.

A second said, “Not a fan of this concept and making the million dollar wedge a group prize is stupid especially since all 3 have to not land on bankrupt.”

A fourth commented, “Nice fresh concept we are seeing this week.”

    RATINGS WAR

The show shakeup comes as Wheel of Fortune has been struggling in ratings compared to rival ABC game show Jeopardy!, which airs right before.

For the week of March 3 to March 9, Jeopardy! had 8,902,000 viewers tune in, according to Nielsen.

Wheel of Fortune trailed behind in the number two spot with 8,477,000 viewers.

The U.S. Sun also previously reported 8,430,000 viewers tuned in to watch Jeopardy! for the week of January 20 to 26.

    Wheel of Fortune host timeline

Premiering in 1975, the beloved game show has had a few different iconic hosts in its nearly 50 seasons.

1975 – 1981 : Chuck Woolery was the original host of Wheel of Fortune until he departed in 1981.

1981 – June 2024: Pat Sajak took over and became a beloved Wheel of Fortune host for over 40 years.

September 2024: Ryan Seacrest was declared the newest host as Sajak announced his retirement.

Wheel of Fortune came in second place with 8,111,000 viewers.

As for the premiere week of September 9 to September 15, The U.S. Sun previously reported 8,310,000 viewers watched Wheel of Fortune and 7,113,000 viewers tuned in for Jeopardy.

The high ratings at the beginning of the season for Wheel of Fortune could’ve been because of interest over Ryan taking over for Pat.

Wheel of Fortune kicked off Season 42 on September 9 with the new host.

‘Wheel of Fortune’ Fans Blast Bonus Round Puzzle & React to New Twist

Wheel of Fortune is doing something they have never done before. Instead of three strangers competing against each other to try and win money, three friends face off against each other to be “the best Wheel of Fortune contestant” and earn bragging rights, as well as money.

The game show contestants on the Monday, May 12, episode have worked together at a Rhode Island Fire Department for the past two decades. One wanted to be called “King of Wheel of Fortune,” another believed they’re “the real boss,” and the third compared himself to David (vs. Goliath).

Melissa “Missy” Porter, from Johnston, Rhode Island, played against her fellow firefighters Darrin “Poppa” Gallagher, from Narragansett, Rhode Island, and Tim Stebenne, from Lincoln, Rhode Island.

About the twist, social media users commented on whether or not they liked it. “This is so much better than playing in teams,” an Instagram user wrote.

“I’m rooting for them as individuals and as a team I AM SO CONFUSED BUT I LOVE IT!!!” said another.

“I really enjoyed the dynamic of them all being friends, and while I know it shouldn’t be the norm, I’d love to see it more often. I have never seen it before,” a Reddit user said.

“Nice fresh concept we are seeing this week,” commented another.

“I like the concept of Bragging Rights. How many of us have sat on our couches competing against friends and/or family members? So to see that play out on television is interesting. It’s also a sign that there’s a new era of Wheel between Ryan and Bellamie,” one last fan said.

Another twist that came back this week was the Jackpot, which starts at $0 and increases by $500 for each spin. Whoever solves that round’s puzzle, wins the jackpot and their earnings. Also, if someone lands on the $1 Million Wedge, host Ryan Seacrest will hold on to it. If no one lands on Bankrupt by the end of the round, the winner of the round will take the wedge to the Bonus Round if they get there.

Porter, a cook who only makes meatballs when Wheel of Fortune is on, and Gallagher, the longest-tenured firefighter at his station, both solved the first two toss-ups. Stenenne, a man who met Missy and Darrin at the fire academy 21 years ago when she was his first fire truck run partner and “Poppa” was their instructor, won a trip to Iceland when he solved the puzzle — “Love-Hate Relationship.”

Stenenne solved the next one as well. Gallagher solved the next puzzle — “Lush Rainforest of Panama” — and won a trip to Panama.

Gallagher took the lead when he won all three Triple Toss-Ups for $10,000. Porter solved the final puzzle — “Running Neck and Neck” — for $6,000. She ended with $7,000. Gallagher was the night’s big winner with $20,150 cash & Panama, and Stebenne went home with $12,700.

For the Bonus Round, Gallagher picked “What are you doing?” His fellow firefighters cheered him on from the second and third-place podiums. When the puzzle answer emerged, fans were quick to blast the show.

Wheel of Fortune gave him “R,S,T,L,N, and E.” He chose “K,D,G, and A,” to round out his puzzle. It then looked like TAK_NG  A  _ _ _ _ _.”

As the clock counted down, Gallagher guessed “Taking a…” but couldn’t guess the last word. It was “Taking a whiff,” which he said he could have never gotten.

Ryan Seacrest let him know that he lost out on an additional $40,000. This is now the 11th Bonus Round puzzle loss in a row.

“Another tough word,” a YouTube user commented.

At this point, I don’t even care if it’s the regular $40,000 anymore. Just win something!” another wrote.

“What is going on right now? And 11 losses in a row tomorrow somebody’s gonna have to break the losing streak,” a third added.

“That was a hard one surprisingly. I knew the first part was ‘Taking A’ without the letter selection. But that last word was odd because there was no T or R. I’ve heard of Take A Whiff, but not Taking A Whiff,” another wrote.

“I thought it was ‘taking a break’,” a fan commented.
“How many people used this word in a year WHIFF or even in ten years,” one last fan wrote.

The season 6 celebrity contestants have not yet been announced.

Season 5 of “Celebrity Wheel of Fortune” premiered in April with Sajak at the helm. TV Insider shared that Sajak walked on stage with White he declared, “We’re back!”

Sajak joked, “Now let me explain something. I was going to be one of the celebrities playing this season. Unfortunately, our casting folks found a lot of funnier people, so I’m back to hosting. It’s been a while but it’s like riding a bike except I don’t have to wear spandex.”

While fans were outraged by Sunday night’s results, that wasn’t necessarily the case on Monday’s episode, though many did take Underwood to task.

Many were furious after she told the 27-year-old Roberts, now the last Black singer left in the field, to ‘move around and entertain.’

Roberts chose Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell’s Ain’t No Mountain High Enough from the 2000 Disney sports film Remember the Titans, with Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie giving him a standing ovation while Carrie Underwood remained seated.

His performance elicited a huge response from the crowd, with judge Luke Bryan saying, ‘You deserve every bit of this.’

Lionel Richie was floored by his ability to transform certain songs, which he called the singer’s ability to, ‘Jamalerize’ a song, adding the performance was, ‘amazing’ while encouraging fans to vote.

While Carrie Underwood admitted that Jamal’s, ‘voice is incredible,’ she surprised many fans by saying, ‘I feel like you missed such an opportunity to move around and entertain.’

She added, ‘We are getting close to the end here, it is time to pull out all the stops. And we know you have that in you. So like pull us all in not just with your voice but everything else going on. Put 100% of yourself into it. Let’s go.’

After his second performance – a soulful rendition of the title song from Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Carrie was seemingly speechless, telling the other judges to speak.

Lionel said that only Jamal could pull off turning Beauty and the Beast into an R&B song while Luke simply said, ‘Let’s win this thing, baby! Let’s win this thing!’

Jamal was voted through to the Top 3 and will have a chance to win the competition on Sunday night’s finale, though many found Carrie’s comments quite off-putting.

Shortly after the news broke online, American Idol confirmed the big reveal on Instagram. “Dim the lights… here we go,” read the official caption. “#AmericanIdol is coming back for another season! 🎶.”

As ecstatic as fans were about American Idol returning, they went to the comments to voice their feelings about the judges. Mainly, they want to see season 4 winner and current judge Carrie Underwood return to the show next year.
