The Conners EPs Reveal Which Roseanne Characters Will Not Return in Final Season

Not everyone is RSVP-ing to The Conners‘ going away party.

TVLine can confirm that legacy cast members Johnny Galecki (David), Michael Fishman (DJ) and Estelle Parsons (Bev) will not appear during the Roseanne offshoot’s truncated final season, which kicks off with the first of six episodes on Wednesday, March 26 (ABC, 8/7c).

“[David is] very much mentioned, very much alive in the story,” executive producer Bruce Helford tells me. “We love Johnny, he was always welcome, but he has more or less started life anew down in Nashville [following the conclusion of The Big Bang Theory].”
    Johnny Galecki ABC
Though fellow EP Dave Caplan contends that there was a potential story to tell — not necessarily revisiting Darlene and David’s relationship, but seeing David reconnect with their children, Harris and Mark — “there was so much to do in six,” and there wouldn’t have necessarily been time to see that story through, even if Galecki had agreed to come back.

“Honestly, once you see the arcs [you will understand],” Helford says. “What we never want to do is just bring somebody in just to see that person on the show. We want everyone to have something important to play.”
Michael Fishman Leaving The ConnersMichael Fishman ABC
That’s also why you won’t see Fishman, whose last appearance came in The Conners’ Season 4 finale. The following season revealed that DJ had reunited with his wife Geena, who was stationed in Germany, and Season 7 will confirm that their teenage daughter Mary — who was written out after Season 5 — has joined her parents overseas.
    Estelle Parsons ABC
As for Parsons — who received TVLine accolades for a sublime Season 6 arc that saw a dementia-riddled Bev make amends with Jackie — it was simply a matter of logistics. The Oscar-winning actress is 97 years young and based in New York City, roughly 3,000 miles from The Conners’ home base at Radford Studio Center in Los Angeles. Helford won’t confirm or deny whether Bev is still hopping trains, but we will receive an update on Roseanne’s mother before the sitcom signs off in April. “There are certainly some comments made about her situation,” he promises.

Swisher also teased a potential Reba revival at the time. “I definitely think it’s possible and I think everybody would love to,” she said. “There is so much love there and such fond memories of our time on the show. Nancy Travis Reveals Where Her and Tim Allen’s ‘Last Man Standing’ Sitcom Couple Would Be Now

Nancy Travis Reveals Where Her and Tim Allen Last Man Standing

    ABC
Last Man Standing followed a sitcom couple played by Tim Allen and Nancy Travis for nearly a decade — but where would Mike and Vanessa be now?

During an exclusive interview with Us Weekly, Travis, 63, reflected on her and Allen’s characters, saying, “When we would film a scene on Last Man Standing, one would be as written and then we would joke around about what would be the most extreme version of this scene. We would call that version ‘when the door slams shut.’”

Travis and Allen, 71, always thought there were two versions of Mike and Vanessa’s story.

“If this show was on network TV, it would probably be Vanessa and Mike in rocking chairs bickering,” she quipped. “But who knows what it would be when the door slams shut if they were on cable?”

‘Last Man Standing’ Cast: Where Are They Now? Tim Allen, Nancy Travis, Kaitlyn Dever and More

Last Man Standing, which aired from 2011 to 2021, centered around Allen and Travis playing a fictional couple: Mike and Vanessa Baxter. After Last Man Standing came to an end, Allen returned to the comedy space on the series Shifting Gears, which premiered last month. Allen was able to use the ABC sitcom to bring Travis back as his scene partner in a Valentine’s Day-themed episode.

Nancy Travis Reveals Where Her and Tim Allen Last Man Standing

    ABC
“It was great not to play the wife [this time]. It was great. It was really fun to be able to just come in and have a whole wealth of knowledge and rapport working with Tim. In terms of comedic rhythm, knowing how to set up a joke and how to tell a story together, it was great to be able to take that and apply it to Charlotte,” Travis told Us. “You wonder how Nancy Travis is going to come back into this Shifting Gears world and I think it’s a unique and clever way that they’ve engineered this.”

Travis enjoyed getting to share the screen with Allen again, adding, “Charlotte is a catalyst for him. It was fun to play the role of someone who has a shared experience with Tim’s character, which is true in real life. We shared the experience of making Last Man Standing and at the same time my Shifting Gears character is a stranger — just somebody that Matt meets who can inform his life.”

Nancy Travis Reveals Where Her and Tim Allen Last Man Standing

    ABC
Despite playing a potential love interest for Allen, Travis admitted she’s not in a rush to be his sitcom wife for a second time.

“I do enjoy working with him but I think that it’s fun to explore new and different relationships between characters. It is very meta — maybe too meta,” she told Us. “I really like what they created, which is a soulmate friend. Maybe it’s like the ghost of his ex-wife — Vanessa — who comes in the spirit of somebody else. But I like the nuances of what they created with this different relationship.”

Travis went on to hint at a possible return to Shifting Gears. “Tim loves what he does and it’s almost like he’s the host of a party. But at the same time, he is very conscientious and really wants to tell whatever story it is in a very affecting way — comedically and emotionally and truthfully,” she explained. “So he’s a great scene partner in that way. Also everybody just has a really great time on set and it is like being at a party.”

The actress continued: “I showed up and there was such an inviting and warm feeling being there. We just had a good time working together and everybody enjoyed watching us. It was just a very kind, fun and warm group.”

Shifting Gears airs on ABC Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET before streaming the next day on Hulu.

A Heavy Heart: John Goodman’s Unfortunate News Casts a Shadow Over “The Conners,” ABC’s Silence Deepens the Worry

[VERY SAD] John Goodman shares some UNFORTUNATE NEWS about ‘The Conners’, ABC declined to comment

John Goodman Says The Conners ‘May Be Coming to an End’ With Season 6

John Goodman’s days playing Dan Conner may be numbered. In a new interview, the Conners patriarch suggests that Season 6 of the Roseanne spinoff could be its last.

“I think we may be coming to an end on it, I’m not sure,” he tells France 24. “It’s lasted longer than I thought we would. It was just supposed to be like an eight [episode] show and out thing at one point, but they picked us up again, and they keep picking us up.”

ABC declined to comment, but a network insider tells TVLine that there have been no conversations about the spinoff ending with Season 6.

In its recently concluded fifth season, The Conners averaged 5 million total viewers and a 0.7 demo rating (with Live+7 playback), up 6 percent in viewers and off just a tenth in the demo from its Season 4 numbers. Out of the five sitcoms that ABC has aired during the 2022-23 broadcast season, it ranks No. 1 in total audience and trails only Abbott Elementary in the demo.

Speaking to TVLine in anticipation of the Season 5 finale and a Season 6 pickup, executive producer Bruce Helford surmised that the Roseanne offshoot was nearing its end.

“Sara Gilbert expressed to the network that we don’t want to go out without knowing that we are going out with a series finale so we can build to the right ending — and at this point in time, we feel that [next season] is possibly going to be the last season of The Conners,” he said. “I would not [say that] definitively because the numbers were so good this season, and we’ve all had a really great time… but it’s definitely a possibility.”

Another Reba reunion is taking place on Happy’s Place with the upcoming episode, “Sisters Ink,” airing Friday, February 21.

After previously hosting Steve Howey, Reba McEntire and Melissa Peterman are reuniting with fellow former costar Christopher Rich who is stepping in to play a tattoo artist named Maverick. In the episode, Isabella (Belissa Escobedo) gifts Bobbie (McEntire) matching sister mugs, and Bobbie feels compelled to think of an equally thoughtful gift.

The brainstorming process and presentation lead Isabella to expect that she and Bobbie will be getting matching tattoos, and presumably, shenanigans will ensue. Meanwhile, Steve (Pablo Castelblanco) and Takoda (Tokala Black Elk) will investigate where Emmett (Rex Linn) has been sneaking off to when he’s not in the kitchen at Happy’s Place.

For those who may need a refresher on the Reba of it all, Rich previously starred in the series as Brock Hart, the ex-husband of McEntire’s titular character, he memorably had an affair with Peterman’s character Barbara Jean. This marks one of Rich’s first major returns to television since suffering from a stroke in 2018.

“For him to have the courage to come do this and make everybody feel so comfortable… he did have a stroke and he’s back acting and that gives such inspiration to other people. You can do it,” McEntire told Entertainment Tonight about the reunion and Rich’s return to acting.

“I’m gonna get to the finish line. I may have to limp across it, but I’m getting there,” Rich told the outlet about delivering his performance for the episode.

“There’s magic here… and when you get to play with people that you have such a shorthand… you don’t have to explain stuff. You know that we’re gonna get each other. And also, I’m not gonna lie, it’s fun when the audience just gets so thrilled and tickled to see us all back together again,” Peterman added of the reunion.

Last Man Standing has ended, but the show’s stars including Tim Allen, Nancy Travis and Kaitlyn Dever have remained on our screens.

The sitcom started out on ABC and starred Allen as an executive at a sporting goods store chain in Denver, Colorado. Mike Baxter was a married father of three daughters and a grandfather to his eldest daughter’s son. Last Man Standing aired on the network from 2011 to 2017 before moving to Fox for three more seasons.

Last Man Standing marked Allen’s return to the sitcom world after playing Tim “The Toolman” Taylor on Home Improvement from 1991 to 1999.

“The word that keeps me alive is ‘grateful.’ I love what I do. I get far more enjoyment out of entertaining people than anything monetary,” Allen exclusively told Us Weekly in 2020. “I love the live audience we have. I tell them every night, ‘This is old-school stuff, what television and broadcast started with.’ I don’t know the future, but this [show] is rare.”

Allen praised Last Man Standing for not trying to reinvent the wheel.

“We did the same thing as we did with Home Improvement. It’s all about the relationships — we don’t get into topical stuff. But [now], I’ve just got girls, so you see how a man differs in his perspective when he has so many strong women around him,” he continued. “We never make fun [of each other]. It’s an affectionate family. I like the fact that we honor and make fun — at the same time — marriage, institution, kids, babies, people. But in the same way, we honor it. We’re not being snarky about it.”

‘CBS Mornings’ host Gayle King slammed after noting lack of ‘people of color’ at Trump inauguration

“CBS Mornings” co-host Gayle King sparked controversy after questioning why there weren’t “many people of color” during President Trump’s inauguration ceremony on Monday.

The anchor made the remark while offering commentary on the swearing-in ceremony as politicians, Supreme Court judges and dignitaries filtered into the US Capitol Rotunda.

“I do not see many people of color. Does anybody else besides me observe that?” King said. “I’m fascinated by why that is?”

Norah O’Donnell, who anchored the network’s coverage, then noted that the inauguration coincided with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day before listing some prominent black leaders in attendance.

Megyn Kelly, the former Fox News primetime star, was among several critics who slammed King for her observation.

“Gayle King on cbs is questioning why there aren’t more ‘ppl of color’ at the inauguration. Of course,” the host of SiriusXM’s “The Megyn Kelly Show” wrote on X.

Aidan Kearney, a Trump-backing commentator, wrote: “The fact that this is the first thing you’re looking for is exactly why this guy is about to be inaugurated again.”

Tony Bruno, a former ESPN sports radio talk show host, wrote on X: “Watching your morning show (which very few do) what is the racial breakdown of your staff?”

Others, however, supported King’s point, noting that the audience was overwhelmingly white, including high-profile figures like tech billionaires Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk.

A spokesperson for CBS declined to comment.

Among the people of color present at the inauguration were former President Barack Obama, former Vice President Kamala Harris, Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY).

Vice President JD Vance’s wife, Usha, a daughter of Indian immigrants, also attended.

One person who decided to skip the event was Michelle Obama, fueling ongoing speculation about her views on Trump and recent rumors regarding her marriage to the 44th president.

Trump used his inaugural address to proclaim the beginning of a “new golden age of America.”

One of his first policy priorities is the dismantling of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs in federal institutions.

DEI remains a sensitive issue. Supporters claim it helps correct systemic discrimination against minorities while critics argue it results in discrimination against white and Asian Americans.

The kerfuffle over King’s comment comes as CBS parent company Paramount Global is reportedly considering settling a $10 billion lawsuit filed by Trump concerning a “60 Minutes” interview with Harris.

The lawsuit alleges that CBS aired selectively edited versions of the interview to favor Harris during the election.

This legal dispute poses a potential obstacle to Paramount’s planned $8 billion merger with Skydance Media, as the Federal Communications Commission, led by incoming Chairman Brendan Carr, has indicated that Trump’s grievances with CBS News could complicate the process.

Antics of contestants on “The Price is Right” are one of the things that make the show entertaining and relatable, but sometimes their joy can be too much for the host and audience alike.

In a rare moment on the show, another person from the audience came down to celebrate with the contestant and they both collapsed to the floor together in front of model Alexis Gaube, who seemed helpless and baffled.

The contestant in question was a woman named Alexandria and she had made it to the final round of the show, which was Showcase Showdown. Her opponent was bidding for a trip to the Seychelles and a car, and the price she guessed was $5,793 less than the actual value of both prizes. This gave Alexandria a chance to seal the deal if she could guess the price of a hot tub and the trip.

But unlike a lot of other contestants, she had help. Her mother was in the studio and she was determined to help her daughter out. With her guidance, Alexandria guessed $22,500 as the price of both the trip and the hot tub, and that was only $164 away from the actual price of both prizes.

The rules of the game state that if a contestant guesses an amount within $250 of the actual price of the items, they win both showcases, including the car.

Alexandria rushed over to the location of the car and her mother also made her way onto the stage and hugged her. In their excitement, they fell to the floor while the rest of the people on stage didn’t know what to do as per TV Shows Ace.

“The Price is Right” audience has always been quite helpful to the competitors for decades now. Even when Bob Barker was the host, the people behind the camera never shied away from helping a contestant win big. A contestant named Brenda experienced this nature of the audience as well.

She was playing the Any Number game to win the prize. In this game, there are three rows. The first row had four digits that represented the price of the car. The second row had three digits that represented the price of the teddy bears.

The third row also had three digits that represented a certain amount of cash in a piggy bank. The numbers available were 0 to 9 and no digit repeated itself.

The contestant had to guess a number that appeared in its corresponding box.

The first object with its price revealed was to be awarded to the player. Before guessing every single digit, yubi, Brenda turned to the audience for help.

It took some time and the situation turned tense, but she ultimately revealed the price of the car first thanks to the people in the studio and got what she had wanted the most..
