Price Is Right contestant had to make a big decision between taking a cash prize or risking it all for a brand new car, and viewers are debating whether she made the right choice.

In a clip posted to the official Price Is Right Instagram page on Tuesday (March 4), host Drew Carey explained how things work in the Spelling Bee game to a contestant named Patricia. As he pointed out, the game involves choosing numbers on the board to reveal letters that spell out the word “CAR.” However, the cards also contain monetary values.

Patricia turned over five cards worth $1,000 each, meaning she could walk away with $5,000 or risk it and go for the car. “It’s a $19,000 car,” Carey explained. “But I’ll give you $5,000 right now just to forget about the car.”

After thinking it over for a moment, Patricia yelled, “I’ll take the five grand!”

Carey looked a little surprised, asking, “You’re gonna take the five grand?”

He then shook Patricia’s hand to confirm her decision, quipping, “I feel like Wayne Brady. Jonathan, show her what she’s gonna get.”

Carey was referring to fellow game show Let’s Make a Deal, hosted by Wayne Brady, alongside announcer Jonathan Mangum. On that show, contestants are offered something of value and given a choice of whether to keep it or exchange it for a different item. Carey and Brady previously worked together on the hit improv comedy show Whose Line Is It Anyway?.

As for Patricia, it turned out she made the wrong choice. Carey turned the cards over to reveal that she had the letters to spell out “CAR,” meaning she had lost out on a brand new ride. Patrica put her head in her hands and fell to the stage in shock.

Fans took to the Instagram comments to share their reactions, with one commenter writing, “Would not have taken the 5 grand.”

“She Should’ve Gone With The Automobile,” said another.

“Car it’s not every day you have an opportunity to win a new car,” another added.

Another wrote, “I was hoping she went for the car because she had all 5 letters.”

“You don’t need the money just sell the car you get more money than five grand,” added one fan.

However, others agreed with Patricia’s decision, with one user writing, “$5,000 sounds like a win to me!”

“Correct choice perhaps. Depends on her situation. She has to pay taxes on it. And if she doesn’t want it – she’d have to sell it … not bad ….5k,” said another.

“Just Take The Money And Run!!!” added one commenter.

Another added, “I saw it today u can’t blame her sometimes it’s hard.”

“If you need the money, take it,” said one user.

What did you think of Patricia’s decision? Did she make the correct choice? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

The Price Is Right has added several games to the retirement bunch. Is it a game that viewers would be okay with not seeing anymore? It seems viewers want the games switched up a bit anyway. Also, there are some fans who think is too hard. Keep reading to find out more about this.

The Price Is Right Games In Retirement

The Price Is Right has several games that have been retired. This may be due to financial reasons, viewer requests, or just because they were not liked by the production team. For example, games in retirement include, Add Em’ Up, Bullseye I, Hit Me, Hurdles, Penny Ante, The Phone Home Game, Super Ball!!, Trader Bob, and Walk Of Fame.

However, there may be another game being added to that list. Fans would like to see some of these games back. However, not all are missed. These games were all retired while Bob Barker was the host of the game show.

The Game That May Get Retired

Viewers are hoping to see the game, 3 Strikes, retired as well. They think the game is just too hard and it is not enjoyable to watch. Fans went to Reddit to give their opinions.

    Hardest: Three Strikes

Three Strikes is basically a middle finger to anyone who wants to win a car.

    3 Strikes is the hardest.

If you’re lucky enough to get your the show and they reveal Stack the Deck or 3 Strikes to you, just walk off the stage and wait for the Showcase Showdown.

3 Strikes is not a fun game

I legitimately can’t remember the last time I saw a player get more than 1, maybe 2 numbers before striking out so I’m not a fan of this game either lol,

I despise 3 strikes. Way too much luck involved,

Fans are not loving the game. It is not easy and does not result in many wins.

    Price Is Right

    Price Is Right

It seems that 3 Strikes is the hardest game in fans’ opinions. They do not think it is fair to the contestant. While it is a rare game to see, viewers would not mind never seeing it again. They would like to see more contestants winning cars and not losing.

However, easier games may not be in the show’s best interest due to financial reasons. What do you think about the game? Would you like to see it get laid to rest? Sound off in the comments below.

    DREW NOT DISTURB

Even before the announcement, Jeopardy! viewers had already shared their thoughts on Basile, and they weren’t pretty.

“Drew doesn’t know what being a humble winner is. Instead he’s an obnoxious winner,” commented one Instagram user.

“Someone please break his streak… Please. I was really hoping he wouldn’t make it to the ToC,” commented another user.

“Can anyone see through the fake humility of him? Waiting for a new winner,” wrote another user.

Any Jeopardy! contestant who wins at least five games in the show’s current season are eligible to compete in the Tournament of Champions.

“I had the privilege of being on Survivor recently,” he continued.

“So I lasted out there for 23 days of 26 with no clothes, no shelter, no food.”

“[It] affected the noggin a little bit, but I’m hoping to, you know, be back on the horse for Jeopardy.”

“Survivor’s pretty hard on the body, but Jeopardy’s tough on the mind,” he added.

Drew Basile has now won over $100,000 during his six-game winning streak, and secured his place in the show's spin-off, Tournament of Champions

Tournament of Champions typically airs after the show’s regular season has wrapped.

The game show’s 40th season set to finish on July 26, 2024, though fans shouldn’t expect TOC to air immediately in August.

The majority of the show’s past tournaments have aired in November, with the last TOC running from February 23 to March 19, 2024.

The Survivor alum is faring slightly better on the trivia game show than he did on the survival competition show, though time will tell if he can beat his 23-day streak on the island.

    Jeopardy! Universe

Jeopardy! first aired in 1964 until 1975. Then the nighttime version began in 1974. Since then, many spinoffs of the game show have emerged. Here they all are:

Jeopardy! – (syndicated) 1974 to present, weekdays on ABC at 7 pm ET.

Tournament of Champions – 1984 to present, features the top champions who have appeared on the show since the last tournament.

Second Chance Tournament – 2022 to present features hand-selected non-winners from the season prior, where the prize is entry into Champions Wildcard.

Champions Wildcard – 2023 to present, features all one, two and three-day champions from the season prior worth entry into the Tournament of Champions.

Jeopardy! Invitational Tournament (syndication) – 2023 to present, features past greats invited by producers to vie for a slot in Masters.

Jeopardy! Masters (primetime) – 2023 to present, features the six highest-ranked Jeopardy! champions competing against each other.

Celebrity Jeopardy! (primetime) – 1992 to present, has celebrities compete against each other to raise money for charity.

Pop Culture Jeopardy (streaming) – 2024 to present, will feature teams of three tasked with pop culture trivia on Amazon Prime, host and airdate TBD

Jeopardy! has done away with specialized tournaments like its College Tournaments, Kids Week, and Professor’s Tournament to gear towards a more sports-like model, with Masters being the top of the Jeopardy pyramid.

Other versions of Jeopardy! have fizzled out throughout the years as well, like Sports Jeopardy!.

The environment on the sets of “The Price is Right” is always energetic and competitive, but emotions also run high, and over-the-top celebrations by contestants are a manifestation of that. Things also got sentimental in an earlier episode of “The Price is Right,” when one of the long-time members of the team said goodbye and parted ways. This person was like a mentor to Carey, and the host could not help but shed tears as he bid farewell.

This person’s name was Scott Robinson, and he was the one who played the role of contestant as Carey was learning the games in his early days as the host of the show. The two worked together for countless hours and developed a strong bond. The host was used to seeing Robinson on set, so his departure was a big deal. When it was time to say goodbye, the emotions were just too much to be contained.

“When I first started the show and I was learning all the games, Scott was my contestant for every single game. He taught me every single game on The Price is Right, all 70-plus of them. He knows everything about ‘The Price is Right’ there is. I love this guy so much, and this is his last show. I love you so much,” he said while choking up. The two embraced each other immediately afterward, showcasing their love for each other.

Fans loved the moment and let their feelings be known in the comments section on YouTube. “Aw, that was sweet. I’m sure Drew saw him as a kind of mentor and valued him as friend. Props to Drew for being a real man and showing actual emotion,” one user commented. “Awww, that’s so endearing. It’s nice to see people not afraid to show they give a crap about someone else,” another added.

This is not the only emotional moment Carey has shared on the set of “The Price is Right.” On one occasion, he made a young fan’s dreams come true. That was pretty emotional to watch as well. The young man’s name was Carter and he was a big fan of the show. He showed a lot of composure to be on that stage in front of all those people. Carter even had a letter that he had written for the veteran host.

“How are you feeling? I went to CBS Studios with my mom, I watched people play games, we did everything I wanted…I watched them play The Price is Right…this is a letter of the future. We did so much stuff together, I wish I could watch the Showcase Showdown and spin the wheel. It was so cool. I hope you write me back soon. Your friend, Carter,” Carey said as he read the letter out loud.

He then proceeded to hug Carter, which drew a loud reaction from the studio audience. “God bless Drew Carey,” one user commented. Moments like these have made “The Price is Right” one of the most loved shows in the country today.

‘Celebrity Wheel of Fortune’ Confirms Ryan Seacrest as Host – Is Vanna White Staying On?

Ryan Seacrest is adding another job to his resume. ABC confirmed on Tuesday, May 13, that Season 6 of Celebrity Wheel of Fortune will be hosted by him after their renewal announcement.

The game show is also moving to a different night after five seasons. This will be the first time Seacrest hosts the celebrity version as Pat Sajak spun the wheel one last time on Season 5. His last season premiered on Wednesday, April 30.

On the premiere, Pat Sajak poked fun at himself by joking about him retiring and then coming back for one last season. “Now let me explain something. I was going to be one of the celebrities playing this season. Unfortunately, our casting folks found a lot of funnier people, so I’m back to hosting. It’s been a while but it’s like riding a bike except I don’t have to wear spandex,” he said.

Vanna White will join Ryan Seacrest for the new season as well. She currently cohosts with Sajak and has since Season 1.

Celebrity Wheel of Fortune debuted on Thursdays in Season 1. It then moved to Sunday nights for Seasons 2 and 3. Seasons 4 and 5 aired the game show on Wednesday nights, all on ABC. Now, it’s getting another schedule change.

Ryan Seacrest and Vanna White will cohost on Friday nights at 8/7c in the fall. A premiere date has not yet been announced. 20/20 will air for two hours directly after Celebrity Wheel of Fortune. The game show will be one hour long and stream the next day on Hulu.

Seacrest takes the reigns after Pat Sajak announced his retirement after Season 41 of the syndicated game show. However, the long-time host announced that he wouldn’t be going away too quickly as he took one last spin on Celebrity Wheel of Fortune Season 5. But, now he is passing on the reigns.

The Season 6 lineup has not yet been announced.

Aside from WoF and the celebrity version, Seacrest also hosts American Idol and his radio show On Air With Ryan Seacrest.

Ryan Seacrest eyes ‘Wheel of Fortune’ Emmy, honors Pat Sajak: ‘This show means something to people’

Ryan Seacrest wants his Emmy for hosting Wheel of Fortune and he’s not afraid to ask for it.

Six months after taking the reins from Pat Sajak, who spent over four decades behind the wheel from 1981 to 2024, Seacrest sat down with TV Academy members at the game show’s iconic Sony Pictures Studios lot to discuss the future of the iconic game show.

    More from GoldDerby

“You have memories of your grandparents watching this show,” Seacrest said. “Everybody who’s here, and certainly every contestant who comes on, has a story to tell about when they first saw Wheel of Fortune. I remember having to mow lawns and bag grass — because you got paid extra to bag it — to buy a Zenith TV. My mom wouldn’t let us watch TV at dinner time, so I bought the Zenith TV with the ears, put it on the butcher block in the kitchen, and that’s when I began to watch Wheel of Fortune with my family while we had dinner.”

“This show means something to people,” he continued. “It means something to families. I have fun with the job, but I take that responsibility very seriously.”

Following the discussion, Vanna White surprised attendees as she walked out in one of her signature gowns and asked, “Should we play a game?” Holding Seacrest’s arm, she looked at him and said, “This is an incredible man. I am so happy to be working with you. We’ve known each other for over 20 years, but we’ve worked together over a year now — and it’s such an honor. You make it so easy and you’re doing such a great job. I adore you and enjoy working with you.”

After a couple of impromptu rounds with three lucky guest players, Seacrest and White invited everyone to join them for a cocktail and an up-close look at the famous wheel and letter board. The dynamic duo also stuck around for well over two hours, taking photos and chatting one-on-one with each person in attendance.

In its 50th anniversary season, Wheel of Fortune still ranks No. 1 in its time slot across most of the country and reaches 22 million viewers each week. Seacrest took over hosting duties for Sajak on Sept. 9, 2024, but conversations about the transition began years prior. Sajak’s letter-turning cohost White decided to remain on the show with Seacrest after working with Sajak since 1982.

“When you look at what Pat and Vanna have built over the years — they are your friends! They’re your companions. You feel like you know them,” Seacrest said. “What they built being in peoples’ living room every night is such a special thing.” To fill Sajak’s iconic shoes, Seacrest watched the duo tape their shows for a year, closely studying the rules and what made the game show work so well. Six months before he started, producers gave Seacrest a small wheel he could travel with that allowed him to play in hotel conference rooms with random guests. “I wanted to come on day one as if I knew what I was doing,” he said.

Seacrest also revealed his relationship with the show’s creator, Merv Griffin (who died in 2007), started 31 years ago. “When I was 19, I auditioned to host a game show called Click for kids on Saturday mornings,” he said. “I got the job, and Merv was the first person to teach me the mindset of game. It was a different game — but the mindset of game and how to interact with contestants. He told me the story of how he created Wheel of Fortune on an airplane — it’s basically Hangman — and that’s why it’s worked forever. It’s a very simple game.”

“When I was working for Merv, he let me come and sit in meetings about Wheel of Fortune at the Beverly Hilton Hotel,” he continued. “I had no idea I would eventually be sitting here. Merv is the one that taught me to be as focused on the business show business as the performance, which is why I produced a lot at the beginning of my career. He wasn’t just the guy that was on camera, he was a force behind it. I found that so fascinating. He was so charming. He could get anybody to say yes to anything.”

When asked how his hosting gigs on American Idol and Live With Kelly and Ryan helped prepare him, Seacrest shared, “With American Idol, I have a chance to really connect with contestants and their families. I get to meet them early on. I’m interested in where they’ve come from. That’s something that is part of this show. The one thing I forget about Wheel — that I’m often reminded of by our producer — I think we’re live. I’m like, ‘We have to start in one minute! What’s going on?’ And sometimes they’re like, ‘If anything happens we can fix it,’ and I’m like, ‘We can fix it?’ I forget we’re on tape. I like to not stop ever and try to do this as fast as possible.”

Live With Kelly and Ryan was interesting because we would show up and we didn’t discuss anything we were going to talk about beforehand,” he continued. “You really get comfortable on national television just sitting and telling stories.”

The new Wheel host also revealed that his chemistry with White came naturally because they’ve been friends for over 20 years. “We first met through Merv Griffin and we sat together at Merv’s funeral as well,” he said. “We have remained friends over the years. When I first got the job, I tracked her down at a golf course and said, ‘I want to make this as seamless for you as possible.’ This crew is a well-oiled machine. You don’t want to be the guy that slows things down. I wanted her, also, to feel comfortable. She has been a tremendous supporter and dear friend through all of this.”

Seacrest describes White as “very casual” in real life — far different from her glamorous persona on TV — and recounted how she hand-made him a quilt that he has in his home. “She’s just a lovely person,” he shared. “Have you ever met someone famous and they let you down? Shout their name! No — but you see her, you know she’s a treasure, and when you meet her she’s even better.”

Wheel of Fortune is simple, it’s never changed, and will always be a protected safe space for anybody to watch,” he said about why the show has resonated with viewers for so long. “We’re never going to have an uncomfortable puzzle. We’re never going to have an uncomfortable conversation about something you’ve got to explain to your kids. This is a safe place for fun and it will always be that way. I think that’s special.”

Wheel of Fortune has won seven Daytime Emmys, including Best Game Show in 2011. Last year, the show won its first Primetime Emmy for host Pat Sajak in his final year.

American Idol Season 24 Renewed By ABC Amid Signs Carrie Underwood Won’t Return For Another Season

American Idol Season 23 Judge Carrie Underwood With A Serious Look

American Idol season 24 has been renewed by ABC, but there are some signs that new judge Carrie Underwood won’t return. For American Idol season 23, season 4 winner Carrie took Katy Perry’s place at the judging table, alongside Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan. All three judges have faced a lot of backlash this season for not giving the contestants any negative feedback and only showering them with praise. In addition, Carrie has been worried about seeming mean on the show, and she doesn’t like the eliminations. These are signs that she might not return for season 24.

American Idol announced that the show has been renewed for season 24, its ninth on ABC.

In an Instagram post, American Idol announced that the singing competition series has been renewed for season 24, its ninth on ABC. The caption of the post read, “Dim the lights…here we go. #AmericanIdol is coming back for another season!” “Dim the lights… here we go is one of host Ryan Seacrest’s catchphrases, which he says right before the eliminations.

In the comments section of the post, American Idol wrote, Online auditions are open NOW!” which Ryan had already announced on the show. The comments section was also flooded with fans who hoped that Carrie, Lionel, and Luke would return as judges for season 24.

Dim the lights… here we go. #AmericanIdol is coming back for another season!

What American Idol Renewal Means For The Future Of The Show

I’ve Changed My Mind, Carrie Underwood Doesn’t Belong On The American Idol Judging Panel (Season 23 Just Proved This)

American Idol's Carrie Underwood smiles and waves on a sidewalk

American Idol season 23’s Carrie Underwood has been getting some backlash for her time as a judge on the show, and while I don’t think it’s a bad thing, I do think, after watching the show, that she’s not meant to be a judge. While American Idol season 23 hasbeen a great stepping stone for Carrie to become an even larger part of the Idol family, her original time on the show was nearly two decades ago. As such, Carrie, who has become a country megastar since her American Idol win, has been working hard to fit in on-screen.

Carrie’s experiences in the music industry are unlike other American Idol winners and contestants, as she’s become the top-selling artist from the series overall. After competing on American Idol season 4, Carrie found herself moving into a completely different lane than other Idol alumni. Despite knowing that her current level of experience is vastly different than when she was part of the competition, Carrie seemed confident stepping into the American Idol audition room as a judge. Now, having seen her performance throughout several phases of the competition, I no longer feel that Carrie belongs on the American Idol judge’s panel.

Carrie’s Personality Isn’t Suited For Criticizing Others

She’s Been Called Out For Being Kind-Hearted

As Carrie has become a bigger part of the American Idol season 23 process, it’s become clear to me and others that she may not be happy with criticizing others as a judge on the show. While it seemed like she was going to be one of the more critical judges in her initial appearances on American IdolCarrie’s nature came through in later episodes of the season. Her kind-hearted behavior, from holding an auditioning contestant’s son while they sang to crying when a contestant sang with their father, made it clear she was holding back her true self.

Carrie’s nature started to come through on American Idol season 23 and made it clear that the negative parts of the show were tough on her. Carrie overtly didn’t like giving feedback when it wasn’t positive during the audition process or the pre-taped portions of the show, and seeing her on the live shows has only solidified my feelings about her not wanting to move forward with eliminations or criticism. While she may have it in her, Carrie seems to prefer to be more level-headed about the competition and lift contestants up rather than tear them down in most moments.

Carrie’s Beliefs Make It Tough For Her To Pass Judgment

She’s Been Open About Her Faith

Carrie has been open about being a devout Christian and has even started releasing more faith-based music than popular country. While Carrie has always been upfront about her faith, it’s become more obvious in recent years that she’s been bringing it into a more public space, hopeful that she can inspire others with her message. Though Carrie’s become more open about her faith, it’s also become clear that it’s a part of her life that makes it tough for her to pass judgment on others. It’s possible Carrie doesn’t feel like she’s honoring her beliefs on American Idol.

Carrie Doesn’t Like The Cut-Throat Parts Of Judging Idol

She’s Not A Natural Born Judge

American Idol can be tough for judges to get used to, especially when they’re coming from a background of being a performer on their own. Within the music industry, artists tend to hear so much criticism and struggle to make it to success. Throughout Carrie’s years of being in the industry, she’s been part of the crowd who has been able to grow as an artist and succeed with her music, with American Idol as her springboard. While I know she’s faced her share of criticism, I think Carrie’s demeanor isn’t right for a judging position, as it’s too cut-throat.

Though Carrie may not be the most naturally born judge American Idol’s ever seen, I think it’s clear that it’s not because of a lack of talent or desire. Carrie doesn’t appear to want to be the bearer of bad news, nor does she want to criticize fellow artists. While seeing new talent on American Idol is exciting, Carrie doesn’t seem to want to be part of tearing others down, which is something she may not have expected as part of the job.

American Idol airs Sundays & Mondays at 8 p.m. EDT on ABC.
