“Price Is Right” Contestant UNLEASHES MERCILESS JAB at Drew Carey – The Niceties Are OVER! What happens when the polite world of daytime game shows turns savage? Get ready for the shocking moment a “Price Is Right” contestant audaciously turned on beloved host Drew Carey, delivering a verbal blow so brutal it left the studio audience stunned.

‘Price Is Right’ contestant takes brutal jab at host Drew Carey about his career

Drew Carey was put in his place.

Lillian Brown was on a roll during the July 2 episode of “The Price Is Right.”

The third-year Ph.D. student breezed through the games, racking up money as she played.

“I was thrown out of college twice. What’s the opposite of a PhD?,” Carey asked. “A talk show host,” Lillian quipped back.
“I was thrown out of college twice. What’s the opposite of a Ph.D.?” Carey asked Lillian Brown. “A talk show host,” she quipped back. The Price Is Right / CBS
Host Carey, 66, teased her about it, suggesting that the secret to her success was her Ph.D.

“We might as well not even keep going but . . . OK, OK. You have a Ph.D.,” he said to her.

“I was thrown out of college twice. What’s the opposite of a Ph.D.?” Carey continued.

“A talk show host,” Brown responded.

“You know what? I’m not smart enough to be a talk show host,” Carey said, unable to recover.

Brown and the audience all laughed.

In the same episode, Carey cost a contestant a shot at the Showcase.

The host was trying to help when contestant Roni Gardner, from San Diego, California, struggled to spin the Big Wheel.

“You know what? I’m not smart enough to be a talk show host,” Carey responded, unable to recover.

Contestants spin the Big Wheel in an attempt to get close to 100 without going over. Everyone has two chances to spin and get their overall total the closest to 100 to move on.

For a spin to count, the wheel must achieve at least one full rotation. Gardner had trouble with this rule during the game.

After her first spin, the wheel landed on 90, which put her in position to win the game.

However, Carey pointed out that the wheel didn’t go all the way around, so the contestant had to redo her spin.

On her next try, the wheel barely turned past halfway, leading Carey to step in.

“Can I help you out?” he asked her.

    “Yes, please,” Gardner replied.

Carey then helped the contestant make her next spin, which landed on 15, meaning she was allowed a second spin to reach the goal.

Once again, Carey helped, but the wheel landed on 95, taking Gardner’s score over 100. Her chances of moving on to the Showcase were over.

“I’ll take the blame for that. Roni, I’m so sorry,” Carey apologized as she exited the stage.

Contestant Erika O’Farrell then moved on, but Gardner didn’t have the chance.

Carey had another funny interaction on the June 28 episode when contestant David, a barber, nailed a bid on a sewing-and-craft collection, and bantered with the host about facial hair.

Carey welcomed the contestant onstage after he guessed the collection’s worth of $950, the closest of the four contestants’ guesses to its $1,415 price tag.

“What’s up, man? Nice to see you! Welcome to the show,” the host greeted David with a handshake, to which David replied with equal enthusiasm.

“You too, man. Thank you so much,” David said.

“I was wondering when you’re going to grow your beard back,” the contestant joked to Carey.

“Oh I don’t know, I just got tired of it,” the comedian, who has rocked longer facial hair in recent years, responded.

David then gestured to Carey’s soul patch, and quipped: “This is looking good.”

Carey returned the compliment, adding: “Your beard looks great, man.”

“I was wondering when you’re going to grow your beard back,” the contestant joked to Carey.
Carey is on his 18th season of the long-running game show. The Price Is Right / CBS
Carey’s interactions with contestants have been a hallmark since he took over as host of the show after Bob Barker retired in 2007. Barker hosted the show from 1972 to 2007 and died in 2023 at the age of 99.

Carey is on his 18th season of the long-running game show. He’s also previously led “The Drew Carey Show” from 1994 to 2004, and “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” from 1998 to 2007.

His ultimate career goal is to outlast “Wheel of Fortune” host Pat Sajak — who retired in June from that ABC game show. Sajak, 77, earned his place in history as the longest serving game show host of the same show for his 41-season reign.

“I do have a goal: I want to keep going until I die. This is my 18th season. I’ve got to get the 35 and 41, so I can catch Bob Barker and Pat Sajak,” Carey told TV Insider.

‘The Price Is Right’ Drew Carey’s Advice Sparks Contestant Fury

Fans were not happy with long-time The Price is Right host, Drew Carey after what happened in the recent Plinko round. In a recent episode, contestant Lauren had the chance to win $500K, but things didn’t go according to plan. But despite her playing well, fans blamed the host for ruining her chances of winning the major prize.

A clip of the recent Plinko round was uploaded to the show’s Instagram, and it featured Carey giving the contestant “advice” if she wanted to win the game’s jackpot. Throughout the round, the host kept saying “in the middle,” which may have been misinterpreted as “drop the coins in the middle.” Unfortunately, Lauren didn’t win the $500K prize, but she is walking away for $4,000.

    Fans Had Mixed Reactions

    The-Price-Is-Right-53-Hosts

The Price is Right fans had mixed reactions about the game’s outcome. Many were pleased to see Lauren’s infectious smile and energy in the show and felt bad for her for not winning. In addition, viewers were shocked that she kept putting her chips in the middle when she could have placed them elsewhere and had a better chance of winning the grand prize. However, there were a handful of comments that called out the host for constantly saying “right down the middle,” accusing Carey of misleading players.

“Hey Drew you don’t have to tell your contestants that the big money is “right down the middle” every single time ffs”

The Price is Right has a long broadcast history as it’s been on air for decades. Carey has been the show’s host since 2007, following Bob Barker‘s tenure. While fans may accuse Carey for setting players to fail, some knew what he meant. But it’s easy to see why his words may have confused people.

Was Drew Carey Misleading Contestants in ‘The Price is Right?’

His words of encouragement have been seen as tips, advice, or a set of instructions if one wants to succeed in Plinko. But based on the show’s long runtime, it’s very likely that players know how the game works. Even Carey praised Lauren for her efforts. In the video, Lauren is seen trying her luck by placing her chips on the other slots, not just in the middle. The game only gave her five to use, and she just decided to mainly aim at the center.

At the end of the day, Plinko is a game of chance, not skill. It’s up to gravity and luck to decide if contestants will be going home with the grand prize or not. You can watch The Price Is Right on CBS and the show is available to stream on Paramount+.

On Tuesday, the show’s official Instagram page posted a clip from the season showing contestant Keith playing the popular Vend-O-Price game.

Host Drew Carey guided Keith through the game as he determined which shelf carried the most expensive food items.

Keith secured a victory in the end after guessing the correct price for bags of peanuts.

He jumped for joy as Drew congratulated him on his big win.

Fans immediately raced to the comments to share their excitement about the upcoming season.

    NEW SEASON CHANGES

Ahead of the premiere, CBS released more details about what to expect from the season – which will also include the show’s 10,000th episode to air in February 2025.

There will also be specially-themed holiday episodes and a “redemption episode,” in which former contestants compete for another chance at major prizes.

Additionally, the season will commemorate James O’Halloran’s 10th anniversary on the show.

The Aussie native is known for being the second male model on the show, joining in December 2014 after winning the Male Model Search.

Last month, the Price is Right announced a 60-venue tour, including many East Coast stops, that began on August 30.

The Price Is Right Live coming to New York and more in September – but southern state fans are ‘bummed’ there’s no shows
However, some fans expressed their disappointment that there were no stops near their hometowns.

Fans also recently complained about the schedule change for next season after it was revealed that nighttime episodes would be moved from Wednesdays to Mondays.

The switch raised concerns that Monday Night Football would affect future episodes due to frequent delays and overtime.

The Price is Right again faced backlash when the show didn’t acknowledge the one-year anniversary of its former host Bob Barker’s death on its social media accounts.

    The Price is Right Hosts

The Price is Right first came on TV in 1972. Fans fell in love with the game show so much that it has been on for over 50 years. Throughout that time, the show has had a few different hosts. Find out who they are below.

Bob Barker – 1972 to June 2007 (also became executive producer in 1988)

Drew Carey – October 2007 to present

Dennis James – filled in for Bob in 1974 when he missed four episodes, also hosted the nighttime version

Craig Ferguson – 2014 April Fools Day Special

Bob died on August 26, 2023, at 99 years old.

He hosted the show for 35 years before retiring in 2008 and passing his microphone to Drew.

Fans slammed the show for the misstep, with many saying they still “couldn’t believe” the legendary host was gone.

Last month, The U.S. Sun exclusively spoke to a Price is Right mega-fan about his thoughts on Drew taking over for Bob as host.

Ted Slauson—who competed on the show and is a 37-time audience member—revealed he was shocked that the comedian got the gig, especially since he never formally auditioned.

The San Antonio native also claimed Drew would often “push back” on producers, completely changing the show’s dynamic.

One of the most famous things about Jeopardy! is how contestants have to phrase their answers on the game show.

To properly answer a question on Jeopardy! a player must form their response in the form of a question. It usually doesn’t pose an issue but does get complicated when the answer to the clue is already formed in a question format such as beginning with a who is, what is, or what’s.

    Article continues below

For example, if the clue is a film title such as Who Is Afraid of Virginia Wolfe? would a contestant have to start with a what is or who is? This isn’t a regular occurrence on Jeopardy! so it’s not something that Ken Jennings often has to tackle.

However, on Friday a fan asked the million-dollar question in a thread on Reddit. “Let’s say the board says ‘This book series features a hidden stripped protagonist’, and someone just says ‘Where’s Waldo’ and not ‘What is Where’s Waldo’, would they accept it?” the person wrote. “Since it’s in the form of a question?” What are the rules?”

    Jeopardy!
Jeopardy! players must answer clues in a question format

Fellow fans openly answered the genuine query, explaining that if a response already comes as a question it doesn’t need to be phrased for the show.

“As long as your answer is in the form of a question, it is acceptable,” one fan shared. “For example, if the correct answer was the movie, ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit?’, you would not need to add anything to the title of the movie when you answered since it is already a question.”

However, another fan disagreed: “I don’t think that’s correct? You’d have to say ‘What is ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit?’. The ‘what’, ‘who’ etc are not part of the solution. If you use this example, you’re saying the movie is called ‘Framed Roger Rabbit’.”

A third person expressed: “Somewhat surprisingly, they really do only require the response to be in the form of a question, so ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit?’ alone would be acceptable, though of course there is nothing wrong with adding ‘What is’ to the beginning of that either.”

Someone else mentioned: “I’ve seen them accept answers that way… if the answer itself is a question and that’s all you give I’ve seen it accepted.”

“There have been entire categories where all the answers were in the form of a question,” a fifth person noted. “Contestants usually don’t get the hint and still add ‘what is’ to the front.”

In a new interview, the host of The Price Is Right since 2007 gave an update on his contract with CBS.

While speaking with TV Insider, Drew discussed the major hosting milestone, shocking show moments, and whether he would ever retire.

“I just show up and punch the clock and hope I have a job every day,” he said.

“I do have a goal: I want to keep going until I die. This is my 18th season. I’ve got to get the 35 and 41 so I can catch Bob Barker and Pat Sajak.”

Bob Barker was the host of The Price Is Right from September 4, 1972, until June 15, 2007.

‘A GREAT PART OF MY DAY’

“The longest I’d been on TV was The Drew Carey Show, nine years. Once I hit 10 years here, I was like, ‘Wow, that’s the longest I’ve ever had a job in my life,” Drew continued.

“It’s such just a great part of my day, my year, my life. I can’t imagine giving it up.’

“I don’t like CBS to know that, but it’s going to be a few years ’til my next contract negotiation. So maybe forget I said this.

“I can quit anytime I want!”

In a Reddit forum dedicated to The Price Is Right, fans discussed Drew’s vow to host as long as he could.

“He’s the perfect host. You can tell he really enjoys the games and meeting people,” someone else said.

“I remember thinking in 2007 that I’d never watch it without Bob. I’ve grown to love Drew as he’s grown into the role. Happy to see him keep going!” a fourth pointed out.

“Well, the time has come. I’ve decided that our 41st season, which begins in September, will be my last,” he wrote in a statement.

“It’s been a wonderful ride, and I’ll have more to say in the coming months. Many thanks to you all.”

The Price Is Right fans are coming on down on Drew Carey for giving an animated contestant what many felt were misguided directions.

In a clip shared on TPIR’s official Instagram page earlier this week, Lauren took on the Plinko Game. The show’s most popular pricing game (debuting in 1983), a contestant identifies the prices of small prizes to earn Plinko chips. Then, they take their chips to the top of a giant game board and release them, one by one, into slots at the bottom containing money amounts.

Since the highest amount was $100,000 and Lauren had five chips, she had the chance to win as much as $500,000.

Before she began, Carey advised her what to do: drop the chips down from the middle. “One at a time put them against the wall. Drop it, $100,000, right in the middle,” he said.

Listening to the host, Lauren began dropping her chips directly from the center, landing on a $500 slot and three $1000 slots. Midway through and despite the method not quite working, he reiterated his stance: “Just do that, that should do it.”

It became abundantly clear that dropping the chips from the middle did not lead to them falling straight down the middle.

“What’s going on?” Carey exclaimed. Her last chip landed on another $500 slot.

    The-Price-Is-Right-Bad-Advice

Earning $4000 total, Lauren looked overjoyed. “You know you dropped each chip perfectly,” Carey told her as she climbed back down and joined him: “She really did.”

That said, some fans weren’t so joyous in the comments section, calling out the host for intervening and standing on business with an unhelpful if not erroneous Plinko strategy.

“Drew Carey really needs to stop saying RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE when Plinko is playing because he’s annoying AF,” one fan roared.

“Hey Drew you don’t have to tell your contestants that the big money is ‘right down the middle’ every single time ffs,” wrote another.

“She dropped her chips in the same spot that was silly…If u really want to win BIG from PLINKO u gotta use common sense,” wrote a third.

Other commenters enjoyed Lauren’s over-the-top facial expressions each time a chip landed since her reactions were just so hilariously extreme: “Lauren your faces are KILLING ME,” wrote a fourth.

“Hahaha her faces,” wrote a fifth. “Wait did you win 4000 dollars?????” wrote one more. “I mean it’s not half a million but it’s amazing!”

After a brief summer hiatus, The Price Is Right returned with new episodes last month. Season 53 premiered on September 23 on CBS, and the longest-running game show in America is set to air its 10,000th episode in February 2025.

Hollywood Squares is coming back to television. The classic game show is a form of tic-tac-toe. In the game show, celebrities sit in boxes positioned as a game board. The two contestants then get clues from the celebs and decide if they are lying or telling the truth. Whoever gets tic-tac-toe wins the game.

The first promo shows that Drew Barrymore and Drew Carey will be involved, and it roasted both celebs in the process.

    Hollywood Squares Returning To CBS

After several years off the air, Hollywood Squares is returning to television. CBS Mornings host Nate Burleson (a former NFL football star) will host the new version of the game show, and the celebrities will feature several familiar faces.

Drew Carey The Price Is Right YouTube

The original show was the home to some iconic comic actors. Originally airing on NBC, that original show ran from 1966 to 1980. It featured celebrities in the squares ranging from Rich Little and Roddy McDowall to Joan Rivers, Jonathan Winters, and Weird Al Yankovic. The iconic Betty White also appeared on the show.

While Drew Barrymore was originally rumored to be hosting the show, it is Burleson in that spot. Barrymore, though, is involved. She has a spot in the center square on the board and will be one of the celebrities giving true or false responses to the players.

The teaser for Hollywood Squares also shows another Drew, Drew Carey from The Price is Right. Triumph the Insult Comic Dog trolled Barrymore in the teaser, and Drew Carey was also the brunt of a joke later.

Who Are The Other Celebs On Hollywood Squares?

On top of Drew Barrymore and Drew Carey, there are plenty of recognizable faces on the new Hollywood Squares. The teasers have started to drop, and plenty of names are joining the new rebooted game show.

    The celebrities involved include:

Tyra Banks (America’s Next Top Model)
    Yvette Nicole Brown (Community)
    Whitney Cummings (Whitney)
    Julie Bowen (Modern Family)
    Jay Leno (The Tonight Show)
    Justin Long (Goosebumps)
Akbar Gbajabiamila (American Ninja Warrior, The Talk)
    Tiffany Haddish (The Afterparty)
    Gabriel Iglesias (The Santa Clauses)
    Jo Koy (ahem)
Kevin Nealon (Man With a Plan)
    RuPaul (LINGO)
    Andrew Rannells (Girls)
Kristen Schaal (The Last Man on Earth)
    Sheryl Underwood (The Talk)
    Oliver Hudson (Rules of Engagement)
    Pete Holmes (Crashing)
    Jimmy O. Yang (Interior Chinatown)
    Triumph the Insult Comic Dog.

There will also be other celebrity guests announced at a later date. Since there are nine squares, the celebs mentioned above will rotate. It is assumed Drew Barrymore will be a regular, though, as the Center Square.

Mystery as CBS cancels only female-fronted late night show as host shares strange excuse

CBS has canceled late night show After Midnight after barely a year.

Host Taylor Tomlinson said in a statement she was leaving the show to return to her ‘first passion’ of stand-up comedy.

The announcement saw the network’s late night lineup immediately halved – leaving behind just The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.

Tomlinson, viewed by many as a rising star, mentioned Colbert in her statement. He had been one of After Midnight’s executive producers.

He touched on Tomlinson’s exit toward the end of his show Wednesday night, framing the host as ‘incredibly funny.’

‘Unfortunately, After Midnight is going to end in June,’ he added, sparking some ‘awws’ from the studio audience.

Colbert went on to emphasize how the development had been Tomlinson’s decision – one he supported.

His words came at a point he usually reserved to promote After Midnight, which, in a crowded field of shows manned by men, yubi had been the only female-fronted program of its kind.

‘Hosting “After Midnight” has genuinely been the experience of a lifetime, and I’ll be forever grateful for the opportunity to be part of this incredible journey,’ Tomlinson, 31, said.

‘Though it was an extremely tough decision, I knew I had to return to my first passion and return to stand-up touring full-time.

‘I appreciate CBS, Stephen Colbert, the producers and the entire “After Midnight” staff and crew for all the love, support and unforgettable memories.’

While no other reasons were provided, Colbert offered his input before going on the air.

‘I want to thank CBS for their constant support and invaluable partnership on “After Midnight,” and the whole staff for their amazing dedication,’ the longtime late night host said.

‘While we were excited and grateful for our third season to start in the fall, we respect Taylor’s decision.’

That decision, meanwhile, remains mired in mystery, leaving the shows’ season finale to serve as a conclusion for the entire series.

Craig Ferguson – seen with his inanimate sidekick Geoff – also left his version of the show on his accord, citing the workload that came with it

It premiered in January of 2024, after the end of The Late Late Show With James Corden.

Corden’s show had been a surprise hit for the recently ratings-challenged network, and he too left of his own accord.

Craig Ferguson, several years before, did the same – citing the heavy workload that comes from the job.

His forebear, the legendary Tom Snyder, did so as well, after moving to CBS along with longtime friend David Letterman to start the show – then known as The Late Late Show.

It was the spiritual successor of Snyder’s old program on NBC, the more cerebral Tomorrow Show, which kicked the late, late night era off in 1973.

More than half a century later, the format as a whole is struggling.

Late last year, the program once manned by the late Johnny Carson, Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show, cut its schedule to just four days a week.

Both shows had been spiritual successors to Tom Snyder's old program on NBC, The Tomorrow Show, which kicked the late, late night era off in 1973. He brought a new version of the show to CBS shortly after David Letterman jumped ship from NBC

Advents such as streaming have only made things worse, as well as additional ratings declines seen since the election.

As it stands, Greg Gutfeld‘s late night-styled Fox alternative is attracting the largest average nightly audience of the pack – something unthinkable a decade ago.

The pronounced shift in audience shows who’s watching network TV and how millions of Americans are fed-up with the relatively recent phenomenon of politicized content.

Such content was seen in spades during Trump’s first term; a trend that’s since resumed with the politician’s second presidency.

CBS Evenings’ O’Donnell suddenly stepping away from her highly prized job, meanwhile, left the long-popular program to retool and introduce a new two-anchor format.

A former CBS exec told the Mail last month the move was immediately seen ‘as a disaster’ internally, after it was met with a stark drop in ratings.

The deviation from tradition – since rectified with a less magazine style format – was also accompanied by a further high-profile exit with the sudden ‘resignation’ of CBS President of Editorial and Newsgathering Adrienne Roark, just seven months after she had accepted the position.

A source told DailyMail.com that she was actually fired.

The upcoming Big Bang Theory spinoff is bringing back another familiar face.

John Ross Bowie is reprising his role as Barry Kripke in the Max series, according to Variety. The show is still in development but Bowie is reuniting with previously announced cast members Brian Posehn, Lauren Lapkus and Kevin Sussman.

The alums appeared in various capacities on The Big Bang Theory throughout the years. CBS’ hit sitcom, which aired from 2007 to 2019, starred Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco, Johnny Galecki, Simon Helberg, Kunal Nayyar, Mayim Bialik and Melissa Rauch as a group of friends made up of scientists and their significant others.

CBS initially expanded the universe with Young Sheldon, which focused on Sheldon (Iain Armitage) as a child prodigy growing up in Texas. Viewers met Sheldon’s brother Georgie (Montana Jordan) and that paved the way for his love story with Mandy (Emily Osment) to become the focus of another spinoff, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage.

“You can watch Young Sheldon without knowing anything about The Big Bang Theory. And I believe you can watch Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage without watching Young Sheldon,” Jordan exclusively told Us Weekly in October 2024. “It’s a new start.”

While fans wait for more news about Max’s spinoff, Bialik, 49, has weighed in on whether she would return.

“I haven’t been contacted,” she exclusively revealed to Us last month. “I’ve seen what’s been announced and I think that’s where a lot of people’s knowledge of it is right [now] — me being one of them.”

Bialik is excited to find out more as a fan, adding, “These characters were so iconic and so significant to people. [Creators] Chuck [Lorre] and Bill [Prady] really created a world of characters that people want to know about and follow up on. So, I’m very flattered and I would be very flattered if I am contacted.”

The actress said she would love the chance to play Amy Farrah Fowler again.

“I love being known as that character and I love what it means to people. So for me, it would be a thrill to be part of it in any way,” she noted. “It was a really, really fun experience to be part of that [during my guest appearance with Jim Parsons] on Young Sheldon. I also get to interact with [creators] Steven [Molaro] and Steve [Holland] and a lot of our writers and producers, so it’s a whole world that I still feel very connected to.”
