‘American Idol’ is Silencing ‘The Voice’ in Ratings War as Live Shows Begin – And Here’s Why

After a strong start to 2024 and finishing ahead of almost every reality competition show on cable, The Voice has entered a massive ratings slump coming into April. At the beginning of February, NBC’s top show was dominating Monday nights, having drawn over 5 million viewers per episode throughout the first seven weeks. However, nearing the end of March, the show finally dipped below that threshold, and since they’ve begun going head-to-head with their main rival in American Idol, total viewership is looking disastrous.

‘The Voice’ Loses Over 1 Million Viewers

    The-Voice-Adam-Levine-2023

In what is one of the most shocking viewership results of the year for reality TV, The Voice lost over 1 million viewers on the April 7 edition of the show, dropping its top spot to Idol. It first seemed like a no-brainer that The Voice would continue to be the preferred choice to American Idol, but fans made their presence known when The Voice only managed to pull in an audience of 3.3 million viewers. When compared to the previous week, total viewership declined by a whopping 27%, with the key 18-49 demographic also dropping by 33%, drawing just a 0.20 in the category. Despite The Voice managing to improve its numbers this past Monday, the show barely finished above the 4 million viewer mark, and is the second worst rating the program has drawn throughout season 27. By comparison, American Idol has proved to perform well on Sunday nights, with total viewership only continuing to increase during season 23. However, they will also want to maintain their focus on stealing viewers from The Voice, as Idol has shown they can be competitive against their main rival on Mondays for three straight weeks. Most importantly, whether American Idol draws a higher number than The Voice on a week-to-week basis or not, the latter is currently the program that is losing viewers, while the other continues its hot streak.

Going Head-to-Head with ‘American Idol’ is Damaging for ‘The Voice’

Before the live rounds began, The Voice managed to hold onto the top spot on NBC, drawing more viewers than Idol on separate nights. However, now that the two shows will be clashing going forward, The Voice is proving they are weaker against strong competition, and the scheduling change has significantly impacted their success. It’s almost unheard of to see a reality TV show lose nearly half its audience in one season, and The Voice was just a couple of thousand viewers away from doing so after drawing numbers close to 6 million earlier this year. However, it’s not just the head-to-head battle with American Idol that is impacting ratings for The Voice, as other programs on Monday nights have become equal threats. Despite not fitting into the reality TV realm, NCIS and The Neighborhood are not doing The Voice any favors on cable. This past Monday, NCIS drew over 5 million viewers and ranked #1 among Prime Time Telecasts, while The Neighborhood finished impressively above The Voice in the 18-49 demo. Achieving a high rating on Monday nights has always been a challenge for any network on cable, but The Voice needs to consider other options in order to avoid going head-to-head with Idol and posting season-low ratings because of strong competition. It’s clear that The Voice is sometimes the secondary choice when they’re up against rivals or popular TV shows, meaning it would be beneficial to NBC to develop a strategy where the show airs against less competition. Idol, NCIS and The Neighborhood all broadcast either at the same time or during The Voice, starting at 8:00 p.m. EST. If NBC decided to have The Voice air an hour beforehand instead, it would not only allow them to draw a stronger rating until 8:00 p.m, but also average better total viewership due to it being the only option for viewers to choose.

Competition for The Voice is only going to get stronger as Spring continues, with a variety of TV shows set to begin airing on Mondays, along with the NHL and NBA playoffs being major threats on cable coming into May. Despite embarrassingly losing over a million viewers last week, The Voice is not down for the count against American Idol, but they may have to live with losing a strong portion of their audience due to the amount of competition. It remains to be seen how The Voice performs down the stretch, and if they will once again post record low ratings or emerge victorious over Idol by the end of the season.

6 Reasons Carrie Underwood Won’t Return For American Idol Season 24 (She’s Not Enjoying Herself)

American Idol season 23 has been a tough season for new judge Carrie Underwood, who doesn’t seem like she’s enjoying herself during her first time on the judge’s panel. While Carrie, who joined American Idol season 23 as the first-ever winner to return as a judge on the show, has become a megastar in her own right, things on the show that gave her her start haven’t been easy. Carrie’s return to American Idol came on the heels of Katy Perry choosing to leave the series after it was rebooted in 2018, but it hasn’t been as welcoming as expected.

Though Carrie has been a fun addition to the American Idol season 23 judge’s panel, which also features Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie returning for another season on the long-running show, it’s been difficult for her to adjust to the new role. Carrie, who’s spent the last twenty years working on her career and becoming more of a superstar than she could’ve imagined during her time on American Idol season 4, hasn’t been adapting to the role’s requirements easily. Finding it tough to criticize other performers on the spot, Carrie hasn’t been interested in the difficult parts of her job.

While Carrie has, at times, been criticized for being harsh towards contestants, she’s also expressed that it’s been tough for her to deliver the difficult news. As an American Idol judge, Carrie’s vacillated between being the more critical voice and being too kind, sometimes sharing fewer thoughts on performances because of her level of enjoyment. Early on in the season, Carrie was being called out for over-stepping, but seeing her during American Idol season 23’s live shows has made it clear that she’s simply struggling to stay afloat in her new role. American Idol season 23 could be Carrie’s last.

Seeing herself on the other side of the table may not be as easy as she expected when signing on for American Idol season 23.

Carrie Isn’t Enjoying Her Time As A Judge

She Doesn’t Appear Happy To Be On Idol

Although Carrie has been an interesting addition to American Idol season 23, it’s been clear from early on that the show isn’t her cup of tea. Despite knowing that she’s been part of the series in the past and has frequently been able to work with the series to perform or mentor in the past, becoming a judge is a whole new ballgame. Carrie’s early moments on American Idol season 4 may have prepared her for her career in the music industry, but becoming a judge opened her up to a whole new world of criticism she wasn’t prepared for.

    jasmine alan cumming

Throughout the season, Carrie’s been able to step into the spotlight as an Idol judge a bit more thoroughly, but it’s been clear that she’s not enjoying the feeling of being on the other side of the competition. Throughout her own season, the original trio of American Idol judges weren’t particularly hard on Carrie. While they did give her feedback and notes for improvement, it was clear that Carrie was doing well without much coaching. Seeing herself on the other side of the table may not be as easy as she expected when signing on for American Idol season 23.

Carrie Doesn’t Like Giving Harsh Feedback

She Doesn’t Want To Cut Anyone Down

Although Carrie has been used to dealing with the ups and downs of the music industry, which is notoriously difficult, it’s clear that giving feedback is likely a lot more difficult than receiving it. For Carrie, giving feedback to the contestants is obviously a major part of being on the judge’s panel. While she’s been happy to be able to provide input on performances throughout the season, it’s been obvious that her strong suit isn’t feedback, as it’s been coming out either too harsh or too kind. Carrie hasn’t been up to helping Lionel and Luke make the tough calls.

While Carrie has been doing her best to work through the season, as a first-time Idol judge, she’s been having a tough time with the tough feedback needed in the competition. Though there have been moments where some have considered Carrie too harsh, the difficulty has been more about giving feedback that’s intentionally harsh. Throughout the majority of the season thus far, Carrie has shied away from giving tough feedback, and has even shared that she isn’t interested in continually doing so. While it’s nice to see she’s kind-hearted, American Idol judges have to be willing to give their input.

Carrie Doesn’t Get Along With Her Fellow Judges

Luke & Lionel Aren’t Meshing Well With Carrie

As American Idol season 23 has continued, it’s become more clear that there’s some tension between Carrie and her fellow judges, Luke and Lionel. While there hasn’t been anything official reported about tension between Carrie, Luke, and Lionel, the trio hasn’t been meshing on screen in the same way that Luke and Lionel were with former judge Katy. Though it could take some time, American Idol viewers have noticed some difficult moments between the trio of judges, which could be a sign of things to come for the series. If Carrie doesn’t get along with her co-stars, she may leave.

While it’s possible that Carrie could find common ground with Luke and Lionel in the future, it also seems likely that their relationship will remain similar to what it currently is. Carrie’s known Luke for years, and with Lionel being an international superstar, there’s no chance she hadn’t met him prior to appearing on American Idol with him. If there are issues between the American Idol judges, it can throw off the entire feel of the competition for viewers and contestants alike. Though many would want the show to continue as is, it’s possible Carrie leaving may fix the issue.

Carrie Doesn’t Enjoy Being Away From Her Family

She’s Settled In Nashville, But Idol’s In LA

Although Carrie has traveled throughout her career and spent time away from her husband and kids in the past, she’s been dedicated to her family throughout the last decade. After her husband, Mike Fisher retired from the NHL, Carrie was able to devote more time to traveling with her music, but still primarily stays in the Nashville area in order to keep her kids the priority. As a mother, Carrie has been open about the fact that it’s tough to leave her kids behind or feel like she’s not consistently in the picture, which has been tougher with American Idol.

As the audition process for American Idol moves around frequently, Carrie had to be away from her family for days at a time while the auditions were happening, and now that she’s moved into the live shows, she’s likely spending a lot more time in Los Angeles than Nashville. Though Carrie may be able to handle being away, it’s possible she’s not enjoying the time spent apart from her kids and husband during the season. In the future, Carrie may want to stick closer to home and put things like Idol on the back burner instead of front and center.

Carrie Doesn’t Like The Publicity She’s Gotten From Idol

The Press Has Been More Negative

Although Carrie has been doing her best to remain positive and promote American Idol on her Instagram, it’s clear that the publicity she’s been getting from being on the show isn’t what she expected. When Carrie was originally announced as a replacement judge, the reaction from Idol fans was mixed. Some were excited to see an original American Idol star as part of the series, while others were hopeful that the show would reconsider Carrie as a member of the panel. After seeing her in the first episodes of the season, it became clear Carrie wasn’t an immediate Idol sensation.

Though she’s been able to move forward with her time on the show and find her footing a bit more thoroughly, Carrie’s been difficult to watch at times and the press surrounding her on the series hasn’t been the most positive. While a lot of the criticism and theorizing about Carrie’s place on American Idol is warranted, it’s likely been tough on her to live with so much negativity being part of her appearance on the series. Despite knowing that Carrie’s got a thick skin, she may not find herself interested in opening herself up to so much negativity again.

Carrie Wants To Focus On Her Own Music

    She’s Making More Faith-Based Music

Although Carrie has been able to show off her faith-based music on American Idol season 23 already, it’s clear that her own career hasn’t stopped just because she’s been part of the show. Carrie’s journey in music industry has been fascinating to watch, especially with her star on American Idol only having been a small part of that journey. Seeing Carrie becoming more of an artist in her own right has been great, and learning more about her music outside of the popular side of the country genre has been eye-opening. Her faith-based music is powerful, but isn’t for everyone.

Carrie shared some of her faith-based music on the Easter episode of American Idol, and while it was powerful, the series wasn’t necessarily mindful of the fact that there are many viewers who watch the show for music rather than religious content. While faith-based music may not be the primary issue, Carrie wanting to focus on her career and get into more music that can be spiritual or religious could be a conflict with her time as an American Idol judge. For Carrie to focus on her music, it’s possible she may want to leave the show behind soon.

American Idol airs Sundays and Mondays at 8 p.m. EDT on ABC.

‘The day I go to space will be when the good Lord decides my time on Earth here is done and he takes me home.

‘So, that will be the day I leave this Earth,’ she told Access Hollywood.

Lionel Richie, 75, also had an opinion about Katy’s space adventure.

‘My first impression was, “Get out the capsule.” It’s not that anything was going to go wrong. It’s just that I don’t like the phrase, “Never happened before.” So I said, “You go right on girl,”‘ he said.

The Dancing on the Ceiling singer also said that he doesn’t have plans to follow in Katy‘s footsteps.

‘I’m having trouble navigating earth and gravity. Just walking straight everyday is a daunting task at the point in my life,’ he said when he was asked if he’d ever go to space himself.

Katy Perry, 40, served as a judge on American Idol for seven seasons and announced her departure from the show in February 24.

Carrie and Lionel’s comments come after Katy and five other accomplished women boarded and completed the space flight on April 14.

Many celebrities – notably Olivia Munn, Emily Ratajkowski, and Kesha – have publicly blasted the Blue Origin spaceflight including Katy Perry.

The 11-minute expedition – which took place on Monday – carried Perry, Lauren Sanchez, Gayle King, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, former rocket scientist Aisha Bowe and filmmaker Kerianne Flynn.

Blue Origin is owned by billionaire Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, 61, who is engaged to Sanchez, 55.

The mission was blasted by A-listers who had branded it ‘gluttonous’ and ‘planet destroying’ as many questioned what it actually does for society.

Meanwhile, Katy described herself as ‘a human piñata’ after she was repeatedly mocked online following her Blue Origin space flight.

And that appears to have been enough for the Firework singer to lambast her critics in an emotional rant.

Katy posted a lengthy message after being moved by a gesture from some of her most dedicated Brazilian fans, who clubbed together to pay for a digital billboard for 24 hours in New York’s Times Square declaring their support.

The billboard read: ‘Congratulations on the opening week of the tour. We are so proud of you and your magical journey. And we love you to the moon and back!

‘Know that you are safe, seen and celebrated. We’ll see you around the world, this is just the beginning! From your worldwide cats!’

Katy reacted to the gesture and hit out at the internet as ‘a dumping ground for unhinged and unhealed.’

She wrote: ‘I’m so grateful for you guys. We’re in this beautiful and wild journey together. I can continue to remain true to myself, heart open and honest especially because of our bond

‘Please know I am OK, I have done a lot [of] work around knowing who I am, what is real and what is important to me.

‘My therapist said something years ago that has been a gamechanger, “no one can make you believe something about yourself that you don’t already believe about yourself” and if I ever do have any feelings about it then it’s an opportunity to investigate the feeling underneath it.

‘When the ‘online’ world tries to make me a human piñata, I take it with grace and send them love, cause I know so many people are hurting in so many ways and the internet is very much so a dumping ground for unhinged and unhealed.

‘I can continue to remain true to myself, heart open and honest especially because of our bond.’

She added: ‘I’m not perfect, and I actually have omitted that word from my vocabulary, I’m on a human journey playing the game of life with an audience of many and sometimes I fall but I get back up and go on and continue to play the game and somehow through my battered and bruised adventure I keep looking to the light and in that light a new level UNLOCKS.’

They made country music history with their cover of “Does He Love You”.

It was “legends only” in 2021 when Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton finally recorded a duet together.

Watch The Voice on Mondays and Tuesdays at 8/7c on NBC and next day on Peacock.

Remember When Dolly Parton Appeared on 'Reba'?

It might come as a surprise, but the two country music queens had never collaborated on a song together. In 2021, the legends joined forces to cover “Does He Love You” the classic duet originally sung by McEntire and Linda Davis, released in 1993.

The track, written by Sandy Knox and Billy Stritch, is about the wife and mistress of a man, singing to each other, asking: “Does he love you, like he loves me?” McEntire and Parton’s version was a single off of The Voice Coach’s 2021 three-disc compilation release, Revived Remixed Revisited. The song was a hit with fans and debuted in the Top 50 of Billboard‘s Country Airplay Chart.

“It turned out really good,” Parton told Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live back in July 2021. “I have always wanted to sing with her and I don’t know why we never did it until now. But we really sounded good together and I think the fans are going to like it.”

About their duet, McEntire said, “It’s amazing that we’ve never done a duet. We’ve never [sung] together. I’ve gone on programs to sing for her, and she’s done that for me. But to never sing a song together is kinda weird.”

Not only did McEntire and Parton collaborate on the song together, they also filmed a music video for it. In the clip, the two of them meet up in a club together, sitting at a table, each with a drink in their hand as they sing to one another, before eventually taking to the club’s stage for the song’s emotional ending.

“My favorite part of shooting the video with Dolly was getting to visit with her in between shots,” The Voice Coach continued. “Second was singing with her. But to get to hang out and just visit like girlfriends was so much fun… I loved the play acting we got to do. [At first] we were women at odds, and not liking each other. But by the end we were like ‘Ah you can have him, I don’t want him.’ It was a lot of fun.”

Reba McEntire hopes to work with Dolly Parton again in the future

Will the two legends reunite for another project in the near future?

“We did talk about doing more stuff together, and I hope that happens, because I loved working with her,” McEntire added. “She’s a professional, she’s fun, funny, witty. I could sit and listen to her talk all day long.”

Maybe Parton could make a cameo on McEntire’s upcoming new sitcom, Happy’s Place? Until then, check out their historic “Does He Love You?” duet below.

An on-screen Reba reunion is finally happening. It was recently reported that NBC gave a series order to Reba McEntire’s new show, Happy Place. The series will bring together McEntire and the producing team from Reba, as well as the singer’s co-star Melissa Peterman. While the two worked together on a Lifetime movie in 2022, a television series is a different playing field. Now, Peterman is getting candid about the reunion and how grateful she is.

McEntire and Peterman portrayed Reba Hart and Barbra Jean Hart, respectively, on all six seasons of the WB/CW sitcom in the early ‘00s. The duo have remained close since then, and when Peterman spoke to ET about the series pick-up it was obvious that that sentiment was definitely still true. She expressed her excitement about doing Happy’s Place with McEntire and the Reba team, and you can just feel all of the love:

Amazing! I get to work with Reba and our team, and I’m so excited! It’s whole new characters, a whole new scenario, and a lot of our same team. The dynamic is gonna be that dynamic that we have, that natural one. You’re lucky if you get one chance to work with people you love and have it be received so well and still sort of live on, but I’ve had more than that, and I mean, I feel like the luckiest.

It was previously announced that Peterman was cast in the new series, but at the time, it hadn’t been ordered so it was unknown if McEntire and Peterman would really be able to work together beyond the pilot. Now that the show is actually happening, it sounds like a dream for Peterman.

Despite Reba ending 17 years ago, the cast is still as tight, and they are taking opportunities to work together again. It just shows that the chemistry they had on-screen reflected off-screen, and it’s going to be exciting to see the two work together on this new show.

With Reba McEntire, Melissa Peterman, and the producing team from Reba all doing Happy’s Place, could this mean even more reunions from Reba could happen? It’s always a possibility, but it might be a bit early to plan that out, considering the show did just get a series order.

All around, this show will be a fun one to watch, as it will follow a woman inheriting her father’s restaurant but not being in a happy place herself, as she discovers her new business partner is her half-sister she didn’t know she had.

As of now, there isn’t a premiere date for Happy’s Place, so fans will have to wait a little bit longer to see that Reba reunion. The wait will be worth it, however. Even though it’s not a Reba reboot, it sounds like it will be a very entertaining series. Melissa Peterman is as excited as ever, and I have a feeling she isn’t the only one.

Hopefully, more information will be released soon about Happy’s Place, but in the meantime, Netflix subscribers can watch all six seasons of Reba. It’s unclear if Happy’s Place will be on the 2024 TV schedule later this year, but as we learn more about its premiere, we’ll be sure to keep you posted.

Rumors are swirling about a potential expansion of the “Reba” world, giving beloved supporting characters their own time in the spotlight

Is There an Extended ‘Friends-of-Reba’ Universe?

For years, fans of the beloved sitcom Reba have speculated whether there’s an extended ‘Friends-of-Reba’ Universe—a shared world where characters, actors, and storylines from the show connect with other series.

Reba' Stars Reunite for 'Happy's Place': Where's the Rest of the Cast Now?

With many of the show’s cast members appearing in other sitcoms, and some characters sharing similarities across different projects, the idea of a Reba universe isn’t as far-fetched as it may seem.

Connections Between Reba and Other Shows

    Reba: Cast & Characters

One of the most direct links comes from the on-screen chemistry and working relationships between Reba cast members. Over the years, Reba McEntire, Melissa Peterman, Christopher Rich, and Joanna García Swisher have frequently collaborated in other television projects, creating an overlap that has only fueled the theory of an interconnected TV universe.

Reba McEntire & Melissa Peterman: The duo reunited in Baby Daddy and again in the Lifetime sitcom Working Class, keeping their comedic dynamic alive.
Reba McEntire & Christopher Rich: Rich, who played Brock on Reba, guest-starred in McEntire’s newer show Malibu Country, hinting at a possible connection.
Joanna García Swisher’s Expanding TV Roles: From Reba to Sweet Magnolias and Once Upon a Time, Swisher’s performances often carry the warmth and charm of her Cheyenne character, further fueling speculation that these worlds are loosely connected.

Could There Be a Reba Revival with These Connections?

With the popularity of shared universes in television—like the Friends-to-Joey spinoff or the ever-expanding One Chicago universe—there’s always the possibility that Reba characters could return in a continuation, spinoff, or crossover event. Fans have long hoped for a revival that could explore where Reba, Cheyenne, Van, and the rest of the Hart family are now.

    The Verdict: A Fan-Driven Universe

While there may not be an official Friends-of-Reba universe, the deep connections between its stars and the recurring collaborations suggest an unwritten shared world. Whether it’s in new projects or potential revivals, Reba continues to live on through its stars—and maybe, just maybe, in a greater TV universe that fans love to imagine.

Last Man Standing' Sneak Peek: Bonnie & Ed Have Some Big News (VIDEO)

Last Man Standing follows Allen’s Mike Baxter, a happily married father of three daughters. He tries to escape all the female drama at home in the warm, manly embrace of his job at the Outdoor Man store, a sporting goods emporium where he is marketing director. He also revels in his Outdoor Man vlog, which he uses as a pulpit for his opinions, which often have nothing to do with the store’s merchandise. When he’s supposed to be selling mountain bikes or kayaks, he somehow spouts off about the environment, health care, politics, or any other topic occupying his mind.

In addition to Allen, the cast includes Nancy Travis as Mike’s wife, Vanessa Baxter; Amanda Fuller as their oldest daughter, Kristin Baxter; Molly McCook as middle daughter Mandy Baxter-Anderson, Christoph Sanders as Mandy’s husband, Kyle Anderson; Jordan Masterson as Kristin’s husband, Ryan Vogelson; Jonathan Adams as the Baxters’ neighbor and Mike’s co-worker, Chuck Larabee; Krista Marie Yu as foreign exchange student Jen; and Hector Elizondo as Mike’s longtime business partner and Vanessa’s step-father, Ed Alzate.

HUGE TWIST Revealed in ‘Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage’ Promo – You WON’T Believe What Happens! The brand-new promo for the highly anticipated ‘Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage’ has just dropped, and it contains a massive twist that will leave you absolutely SPEECHLESS!

New ‘Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage’ Promo Sees The Ladies Try To Get Along

Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage - Mary Cooper

Only three episodes remain until the Season 1 finale of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, and the show has decided to bring back Mary Cooper (Zoe Perry) once again. The latest promo teases the two mothers attempting to get along one more. But, with Mary being more faithful to her religion, it will be interesting to see how the two will get along without driving each other insane.

“Ladies Love Bruch” is the 20th episode of this Big Bang Theory spin-off, taking place during Mother’s Day. The latest teaser shows Mary at the McAllister home as they celebrate together at home. But things immediately get rough as it reveals that Mary’s beliefs might be one of the sources of conflict. Additionally, photos for the upcoming episode feature the return of Connor’s girlfriend, Chloe (Kara Arena), as she finally meets his mother for the first time. Aside from Mary’s return, Missy Cooper (Raegan Revord) also returns, but she isn’t celebrating in person, perhaps due to the events that happened in previous episodes.

Mary and Audrey Have A Complicated Relationship in ‘The Big Bang Theory’ Franchise

While Audrey is never mentioned in The Big Bang Theory, she and Mary have a complicated relationship throughout the events of Young Sheldon and Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage. Even before Mary became very religious, she and Audrey never saw eye to eye due to various reasons, such as religion and how they view each other’s children, especially since Georgie got Mandy pregnant at such a young age.

However, just because the two despise each other doesn’t mean they don’t get along. There were many moments when Mary was at her lowest, and Audrey showed some form of care and concern to this widowed mother. The first instance was during the Thanksgiving special, where Audrey was not hesitant enough to invite Mary over since it had been a few months since her husband passed away. Speaking of George Sr.’s death, she and her family attended the funeral during the show’s two-part finale. Audrey called Mary most recently after hearing that Missy ran away. But that small gesture led to a petty argument over the phone in the middle of the night. It will be interesting to see how their relationship develops throughout the show, especially since Season 2 was greenlit, meaning we get to see more of this young Texan couple and their families.

New episodes of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage air every Thursday on CBS and are available to stream on Paramount+. Follow Collider for the latest updates. You can watch the promo above.

“The Conners” Just Made a HUGE Mistake in Its Final Season – Are You Furious Yet? After years of laughter and tears with the Conner family, has the show finally jumped the shark in its final stretch? Reports are surfacing of a controversial plot twist or character decision so baffling, it’s threatening to derail the entire series finale.

‘The Conners’ Made Its Biggest Mistake in the Final Season

    'The Conners' poster feature.

Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers for The Conners Season 7.The Conners Season 7 came to a conclusion last week, but as warned by star Emma Kenney, the actress who plays Harris Conner-Healy, in an interview with TVLine, there was one major issue with the finale series. After 100+ episodes, The Conners and Roseanne story is over. The original Roseanne started in 1988 and aired nine seasons before concluding in 1997. In 2018, Roseanne was revived for what some consider its tenth season. However, it was canceled one season after the main star, Roseanne Barr, was fired for an inappropriate tweet.

Thus, The Conners was born. The main star, Roseanne, was removed from the series under the guise of an accidental overdose, and the rest of the Dan (John Goodman), Darlene (Sara Gilbert), Becky (Lecy Goranson), Jackie (Laurie Metcalf) and the rest of the Conner clan continued to share their storylines onscreen for about seven years. However, now the show and all its revivals are over. There are no more Roseanne or The Conners to bless TV screens, as the final season is officially complete. Unfortunately, though, The Conners’ last season made one major mistake.

‘The Conners’ Season 7 Was Far Too Short

When it comes to sitcoms, it’s common for them to have around 20 episodes per season, which is what the original Roseanne series contained. Most of The Conners seasons also had more than 15 episodes. For Roseanne and its revivals, the episodes are also less than a half hour after considering the commercials, so while the seasons are long, there isn’t always a lot of time to share all the stories, even in a full season. However, as Kenney hinted, there was a problem with the final season.

The Conners were ready to end their and Roseanne’s story with the final season containing six episodes, making the shortest season ultimately the series’ biggest pitfall. With the other six seasons being almost quadruple that amount, this final season is considerably shorter than previous ones, totaling about “three hours,” according to Kenney. While it’s not unheard of for other series to have short final seasons, such as Arrow and Brooklyn Nine-NineThe Conners still had a lot of story to tell and the finale didn’t wrap them all up.

‘The Conners’ Finale Had Incomplete Storylines and Missing Stars

The Conners season being short isn’t the only issue; it leads to a bigger problem: a lack of time. As Kenney stated, “it definitely is difficult to wrap the whole world up in just six episodes… It does leave a few open-ended questions towards the end,” which is exactly what occurred. With only six episodes, there wasn’t much time left for all the stars to share their growth or how they’d progress. Some characters were left out of the finale completely and weren’t even mentioned. DJ, the third-youngest child and oldest son, wasn’t involved in the final season or the finale, despite him being on the show for the first few seasons of the revival.

There was also concern about Jerry, the Conners’ youngest son. He didn’t appear in the series at all, although he was briefly mentioned to be on a fishing trip in Alaska. In the show, Dan also made comments about having three kids, which the producers claimed they would explain later on. Unfortunately, fans never received any answers regarding Jerry’s whereabouts. Also, Beverly’s (Estelle Parsons) road trip or her health also wasn’t mentioned, and she too was involved from the beginning of the revivals.

Overall, while the series did its best to give the characters involved positive storylines, ultimately, the finale missed an opportunity to fully satisfy viewers. Having a long season would’ve allowed the show more opportunities to follow up on the other storylines and tie tighter knots around the stars’ progress. A longer season could’ve also probably given Roseanne a more appropriate and rewarding farewell. Darlene still ended her segment at a weird place with her husband Ben, and just a few more episodes could’ve cleaned up the finale just a little better. Ultimately, despite strong storylines throughout the show, The Conners failed to land on its feet thanks to the much shorter final season.

Did Reba Just CONFIRM a “Reba” Reunion?! The Hint You Absolutely Can’t Miss! Fans of the iconic sitcom “Reba,” get ready to have your hopes reignited! Reba McEntire herself has been dropping some seriously intriguing breadcrumbs about the possibility of a reunion

Here’s Why Reba McEntire is Loving the “Reba” Reunion on “Happy’s Place”

When “Reba” went off the air in 2007, most viewers probably thought that was the last time they’d see the beloved cast together in one place. However, Reba McEntire’s newest sitcom, “Happy’s Place,” has brought many of the “Reba” cast members back together again, and the privilege of that isn’t lost on McEntire. As the country music star shared with People, the experience has been been a dream come true.

As McEntire explained, the reunion was very emotional, and all of the cast members knew how lucky they were to be working together again. “If you get one really good sitcom that lasts for six seasons, you think, ‘Man, I’ve got the golden ring. That’ll be it. Probably never do it again, because that’s magic in a bottle.’ We got it again and we realize it.”

The Singer Described Working With Her Old Castmates as Smooth Sailing

It’s naturally to develop chemistry when you work together for a long time, and McEntire shared that those connections made it very easy to gel with her former castmates on the new series. As she explained, having so much base knowledge about her fellow actors’ preferences and habits was a big asset. “You love people you get to work together with that you’ve worked with before. It’s just so much easier than starting over.”

Although the entire cast of “Reba” isn’t part of “Happy’s Place,” some notable members include Christopher Rich, who appeared as Maverick, and Steve Howey, who stars as Danny. McEntire’s real-life partner, Rex Linn, also plays a prominent role in the series.

Most notably, “Happy’s Place” brought McEntire and co-star Melissa Peterman again, but to the delight of fans who loved their dynamic on “Reba.” Peterman plays Gabby, a lovable bartender that is frequently by McEntire’s side.

In an interview for iHollywoodTV, McEntire described how she feels about rejoining Peterman on screen. ” I am enjoying getting to work with Melissa Peterman again,” the singer gushed. “She’s my buddy, she’s my pal, my best friend. I just love her to pieces.” She also shared that the two kept their friendship alive even during the years they weren’t working together. In the same interview, Peterman clearly shared McEntire’s happiness. “Working with Reba feels familiar,” the actor said. “It’s like going home.”
