    It was an emotional exchange.

Ryan Seacrest broke down in tears Friday during an episode of “Live with Kelly and Ryan” after welcoming Ripa’s husband and new co-host, Mark Consuelos, onto the show, reports Entertainment Weekly.

It was announced Thursday that Seacrest, 48, would leave the daytime talk show after six years and focus on hosting the singing show “American Idol.”

“This is something that [Kelly] and I have been talking about for a long time, and it was a tough, tough decision,” Seacrest stated. “Last year we spoke, and I made the decision to make this my last season as co-host.”

Seacrest said he wouldn’t be gone from the show forever and would appear as a special guest host from time to time.

It was later revealed that Consuelos would take over the vacant spot.

The “All My Children” star appeared on the show Friday to pay tribute to Seacrest.

“I do want to say, you’re a brother to me, you’re a family member to me. I’ve become so close with both of you,” Seacrest told Consuelos, 51. “The three of us sat — before I moved out here — and had real conversations about doing this for a few years. It ended up being longer than I thought, and I couldn’t be happier to see you come in and be next to your wife, who we both know is the most amazing human being on the planet.”

Consuelos echoed the sentiment, saying that he was glad the “American Idol” host had become a part of the family.

“I couldn’t think of a better person to sit next to my wife for the past six years,” gushed Consuelos. “You’re a true friend. You’re a brother. You’re generous to my wife, to my whole family. I got to meet your family. I love your parents, your niece, your sister, your brother-in-law.”
According to an insider at the show, no one was surprised at the host's departure. The insider revealed that Seacrest was feeling the strain of pulling triple duty between his radio show, "Idol," and the talk show. “That chair you’re sitting in, it’s an iconic seat. It’s a great honor for me to sit there. It’s an iconic show, and I think it’s going to be a blast. Thank you.”

“Some of Ryan’s absences created tension with everyone involved on the show,” said the insider. “But everyone cares about him and respects him and just wants to make sure he’s OK.”

Meanwhile, Ripa, 52, has rarely missed a day in her 23 years on the show.

Kelly Clarkson is feeling thankful for her kids.

The original “American Idol” took an emotional trip down memory lane on the 1,000th episode of her eponymous talk show, which aired on Thursday. Clarkson, 42, fought back tears as she watched a montage of her two children’s cameos on the daytime program shown at the end of the special episode.

The “Moment Like This Singer” has two kids with her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, 48: son Remington “Remy” Alexander, 8, and daughter River Rose, 10. Clarkson filed for divorce from the talent manager in June 2020. The pair reached a final settlement in March 2022.

Looking back on the many changes that have occurred since “The Kelly Clarkson Show” hit airwaves in September 2019, the Grammy winner said, “On a personal level I think the most meaningful change for me at least is my own family.”

“Over the years I’ve had my kiddos onstage with me and they’ve always blown me away. So this is a look back on those memories,” she said.

“I’ve actually never seen this,” she added before quipping, “So you’re crying. I’m not.”

Checking her makeup in a vanity monitor, she joked, “And, look I kept it together you guys.”

“They didn’t fall,” Clarkson added, seemingly referring to her tears.

“River and Remy, I love you so much. I’m so proud of you both,” she went on. “They’re just fearless and very bold. They’re more like me as an adult, not what I was like as a child, so they talk a lot too. You are what I’m liking today, my little ones, and every day I love them so much.”

Clarkson has previously spoken about raising her kids amid her divorce.

“It’s tough,” she admitted on her show in 2021. “I know with me and Brandon, it’s just a difficult thing because we’re in different places, and it’s like, we both agree on the main things, but it’s a hard thing when you’re not together all the time, for me personally.”

Summing up her and Blackstock’s approach to co-parenting, she said, “As long as you make sure it’s about the children and their best interests, then we’re both on board.”

“I think the most important thing I’ve learned in therapy, especially through this divorce, is ‘Don’t hide everything from your kids,’” she told Variety in 2022. “Obviously, don’t talk about stuff that you shouldn’t talk about, but it’s okay if they see you cry, or it’s okay if they see you’ve had a bad day.”

“You start to feel that kind of shame, like, ‘I’ve got to put my best foot forward as a mom because I don’t want them to be affected,” she added. “But then you allow your kids to express empathy, and they learn how to say, ‘Oh, man, I’m sorry you had a hard day.’”

Clarkson’s teary-eyed reaction to the videos of her kids on “The Kelly Clarkson Show” followed a vulnerable confession she shared in a promo for the program’s milestone. “I’ve lost, alone, a lot,” she acknowledged, possibly alluding to her divorce, though she could also have referred to her 60-pound weight loss.

“It’s OK,” she then joked with a shrug.

Aside from marking the 1,000th episode milestone, Thursday’s show marked Clarkson’s return to the program after a string of absences that concerned fans. Previous reports, however, suggested she was fine but was MIA due to a personal matter.

“The Kelly Clarkson Show” executive producer and showrunner Alex Duda and Executive Vice President of NBCUniversal Syndication Studios and E! News Tracie Wilson also weighed in, insisting the hullabaloo was much ado about nothing.

‘CBS Mornings’ has a BIG CHANGE, CBS News boss claims

CBS News boss to shake up ‘CBS Mornings’ — weeks after Norah O’Donnell exits ‘Evening News’ perch

CBS News boss Wendy McMahon is putting her mark on “CBS Mornings” — just weeks after Norah O’Donnell’s surprise exit from the network’s “Evening News” program, The Post has learned.

The third-place morning show, co-hosted by Gayle King, Tony Dokoupil and Nate Burleson, will launch a third hour in select markets and on the CBS News 24/7 streaming channel late next month in a fresh bid to compete with its No. 1 and No. 2 rivals, ABC’s “Good Morning America” and NBC’s “Today.”

According to sources, Dokoupil and “CBS Weekends” host Adriana Diaz are expected to become the new co-hosts of the third hour, which will broadcast live from 9 to 10 a.m. ET weekdays from the “CBS Mornings” studio in Times Square.

Dokoupil is expected to continue his anchoring duties on “CBS Mornings,” said a source with knowledge.

The new show will likely be televised in a handful of CBS markets, including Los Angeles and Chicago — but not in New York, sources said.

    CBS declined to comment.

In a memo obtained by The Post, Shawna Thomas, executive producer of “CBS Mornings,” told staffers Friday that she would be producing the third hour with her team amid much speculation.

“One of the worst kept secrets at CBS News is true. A few of our colleagues and I have been working on developing a third hour of ‘CBS Mornings’ that we think will hit the airwaves at the end of September. It is being developed for a few of our owned stations and CBS News 24/7,” she wrote.

Thomas said the show “won’t look or feel exactly like the first two hours,” and that the talent and the name will be different, but “it will still be the smart and engaging content everyone expects from the ‘CBS Mornings’ family.”

Thomas said the show is looking to hire producers even as CBS’ parent company, Paramount Global, is slashing $500 million from the budget ahead of its expected merger with Skydance Media next year.

The move comes as CBS News CEO McMahon is pushing to amp up viewership across TV and streaming for the struggling news division.

Recently, McMahon shook up the last-place “CBS Evening News,” replacing anchor Norah O’Donnell with CBS correspondent John Dickerson and WCBS anchor Maurice DuBois under “60 Minutes” boss Bill Owens, who will overhaul the show’s format to include more in-depth reports.

Unlike “Evening News,” however, “CBS Mornings” is experiencing some ratings growth, closing the gap in the advertising-coveted 25- to 54-year-old demographic with ABC’s “GMA,” in particular.

to be the new co-host of the third hour. Adriana Diaz/Instagram
“It is a smart move and natural evolution of a growing brand,” said a CBS insider. “‘CBS Mornings’ is capitalizing on the momentum and edge on ‘GMA’ that they’ve seen this season to continue growing and building.”

In the second quarter of the year, “CBS Mornings” trailed “GMA” by just 68,000 viewers in the demo. This comes as the show outperformed “GMA” 15 times in the 25-54 demo, Nielsen said.

Overall for the quarter, CBS reeled in 2.1 million total viewers and 426,000 viewers in the demo.

It trailed ABC’s “GMA,” which had 2.8 million total viewers and 494,000 demo viewers.

NBC’s “Today” grabbed 2.7 million total viewers and 620,000 viewers in the demo.

The tightening morning show race comes as ABC is searching for a president of its news division, which oversees “GMA,” “World News Tonight” and other marquee shows.

The network ousted embattled ABC News president Kim Godwin in May amid a slew of missteps and softening ratings at the lucrative morning show.

Norah O’Donnell exits ‘CBS Evening News’ after five years in emotional sign-off: ‘Honor of a lifetime’

Norah O’Donnell bade farewell to her anchor chair at “CBS Evening News” on Thursday night, calling the gig the “honor of a lifetime” — as the network prepares for an overhauled broadcast.

“It has been an incredible five and a half years,” O’Donnell said.

Oprah Winfrey surprised O’Donnell, 51, with a montage that featured interviews with Pope Francis and former Vice President Kamala Harris and on-location coverage across roughly 1,300 broadcasts.

“You have so much to be proud of,” Winfrey said. “Your work as the anchor and managing editor of the ‘CBS Evening News’ has not only won awards, but more importantly, has made such a difference and informed our nation.”

O’Donnell, who has served as the broadcast’s anchor since 2019, emphasized the importance of journalism as she delivered her final on-air sign-off.

“This has been the honor of a lifetime to anchor this legacy broadcast,” O’Donnell said.

“The ‘CBS Evening News’ — for good reason — is the longest-running evening newscast in America. And it is powered by the finest journalists in the world.”

“The correspondents, producers, researchers and crews who work tirelessly to bring you the news every night. That won’t change because journalism matters. I know that because I’ve heard that from so many of you — our viewers. So from the bottom of my heart, thank you for trusting us and welcoming hard news with heart into your homes.”

O'Donnell first co-anchored “CBS This Morning” in 2012 before shifting to lead the “CBS Evening News” in 2019.

“I will miss you too,” O’Donnell told viewers. “So for the final time, yubi that’s tonight’s ‘CBS Evening News.’ I owe it all to everyone I work with. Seriously. Love you. Good night.”

In July, O’Donnell announced that she would vacate her role as anchor and managing editor after the 2024 presidential election to focus on an expanded role at the network amid struggling viewership.

The decision came months before parent Paramount Global conducted sweeping layoffs of 2,000 staffers to cut $500 million from the budget ahead of its planned merger with Skydance Media.

The “Evening News” averaged just 4.6 million total viewers in the most recent quarter and less than 670,000 in the key 25- to 54-year-old demographic — trailing “ABC World News Tonight” and “NBC Nightly News.”

CBS reporter John Dickerson and longtime CBS New York anchor Maurice Dubois were appointed as O’Donnell’s successors.

The pair will serve as co-anchors and broadcast their first episode on January 27 from NYC, moving the studio from Washington, DC, back to the Big Apple.

“I want to say thank you to the viewers,” DuBois said Thursday. “This is my hometown. And without the viewers, there is no us, so thank you for everything over the years we’ll keep going at a different time.”

Bobbie & Emmett’s Happy’s Place Season 2 Relationship Arc Gets Major Tease From Showrunner: “I’m Kind Of Fascinated By It”

Bobbie and Emmett in Happy's Place

Warning: Some SPOILERS lie ahead for Happy’s Place season 1!Happy’s Place season 2 gets a major tease regarding the Bobbie and Emmett relationship arc. The NBC comedy focuses on Bobbie and her half-sister Isabella, portrayed by Reba McEntire and Belissa Escobedo, respectively. Having already generated a loyal fanbase, and reuniting McEntire with Reba co-star Melissa Peterman and producer Kevin Abbott, Happy’s Place was renewed for season 2 in February. During the season 1 finale, yubi Bobbie and Emmett (Rex Linn), a cook at the eponymous bar, seemed to make progress in their relationship, but the characters haven’t actually taken the next step.

Speaking with ScreenRant for the Happy’s Place season 1 finale, co-creator and showrunner Kevin Abbott teased Bobbie and Emmett’s relationship. As he explained, audiences are aware of their connection, but it remains unknown “whether or not they’ve decided to overcome the possible negatives of being together.” Abbott added that Isabella is someone who can play a part in helping their romance and that there will be “an arc” over several episodes surrounding that. He then expressed interest in seeing the relationship evolve because there were fewer love stories in Reba. Read Abbott’s comments below:

Yeah, what I’d like the audience to walk away with, what I hope they do, is that we know that they both have feelings for each other and that there’s a possibility there now. Nobody has said whether or not they’ve decided to overcome the possible negatives of being together and the risk that is being taken.

But that’s what Isabella is there for—to push Bobbie and to push for love. So hopefully, what this does is promise something for season 2 that we’re going to be getting into, not just an episode about this, but it’ll be an arc. There’ll be a number of episodes that deal with this issue and to see where the two of them wind up because I’m kind of fascinated by it.

Like I said, that was the one area that I really didn’t get to tell stories about in the original Reba—love interest stories. I’m really excited to see it. She’s charming. She’s absolutely charming when she plays in love. How can you not love her?

What This Means For Happy’s Place Season 2

Bobbie And Emmett Could End Up Together

As Happy’s Place season 1 unfolded, it became apparent that Bobbie and Emmett had romantic feelings. While it seemed that Isabella was the only character who recognized this, Gabby (Peterman) and other employees had actually known for some time. In the finale, titled “Alarm Bells,” Bobbie and Emmett appeared uncomfortable acting close around their co-workers, but considering how big that storyline has become, it’s hard to imagine Happy’s Place shelving it. The recent comments by Abbott suggest that Bobbie and Emmett could end up together, but how their relationship develops from here is unknown.

    imagery-from-Happy's-Place

The idea of Bobbie and Emmett drew polarizing reactions from the staff at the titular bar, who expressed concern over their working relationship being negatively affected, should things end on the wrong foot. Because of that, audiences can see how Isabella may be needed to help Bobbie, and the Happy’s Place season 2 tease indicates that she will continue offering support. Her efforts might look like interference, but Bobbie and Emmett have demonstrated to be unable to fully act on their feelings in season 1.

Our Take On Bobbie & Emmett’s Season 2 Relationship

It Could Be Good For The Show

Reba McEntire holding a drink in Happy's Place

As the series develops, it may be good for Bobbie and Emmett to begin dating, leading to more happenings outside the bar, similar to their fishing trip in episode 4, “Fish Fry Monday.” As Abbott explained, McEntire is a very charismatic and “charming” performer, and audiences might enjoy seeing this kind of romantic thread. Moving forward, it will be interesting to discover where their storyline goes in Happy’s Place season 2 and if their relationship becomes something more long-lasting.

Happy’s Place Season 2 Will Feature Bigger Role For That Conners Guest Star, EP Confirms: “We Get To Branch Out A Little More”

Happy’s Place showrunner Kevin Abbott confirms that season 2 will expand its cast, with certain guest stars from season 1 returning in more significant roles. The NBC sitcom follows the life of Bobbie (Reba McEntire) as she runs her late father’s tavern, the titular Happy’s Place. The show balances heartfelt moments with sharp humor, creating a rich environment in which the ensemble cast shines. With Happy’s Place season 1 focusing on establishing the show and its characters, season 2 will bring back some key guest stars in more prominent roles.

In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Abbott shared that he intentionally limited the guest cast in season 1 to prioritize the main characters’ development. However, season 2 will bring back key figures like Maritza and Gracie, allowing the show to delve more into Bobbie’s personal life. Abbott also teased that more guest stars could appear, expanding the world of Happy’s Place. Read his full comments below:

Yeah, absolutely. Season 1, I wanted to keep the guest cast small. There’s only so much real estate for our characters, and I wanted our characters to have all the dialogue and whatnot, so I wanted the audience to get to know them. Season 2, we get to branch out a little bit more, and we saw Maritza, we saw Isabelle’s mom, we saw Gracie, Bobbie’s daughter, we saw Steve, we saw Chris.

Those two, especially Maritza and Gracie, are going to come back because I love the actresses. They were phenomenal. Their chemistry with our cast was marvelous, and the backstory behind them is going to be really interesting. I think there are stories to be told between Maritza and Bobbie and Gracie and Isabella. We plan on having them back. We plan on having a couple of other guest cast hopefully too, if they pan out. Some fun people to explore other areas of our characters’ lives.

What This Means for Happy’s Place Season 2

Expanding The World Beyond The Bar

Abbott’s confirmation of the returning guest stars suggests that Happy’s Place season 2 will go deeper into the personal lives of its main characters. With Maritza and Gracie set to have bigger roles, their storylines could provide more insight into Bobbie’s relationships with those outside her core circle. Bobbie’s dynamic with her daughter Gracie (Emma Kenney), who was deployed overseas and later returns to Knoxville to surprise her mother, only to be surprised to discover that she now has an aunt, could bring new emotional depth to the show, especially as Bobbie continues to adjust to her new responsibilities.

The mention of Maritza (Justina Machado) is also exciting. Her connection with Bobbie may introduce new layers of character development and drama. Maritza is the mother of Isabella, whom Bobbie discovers is her half-sister after learning her father had an affair with Maritza. Abbott’s enthusiasm for expanding the world of Happy’s Place also leaves the door open for even more guest appearances, possibly featuring familiar faces from The Conners or other sitcoms. By bringing in new characters while still focusing on the established relationships, season 2 has the potential to elevate the show while maintaining its humor.

Our Take On The Growing Happy’s Place Cast

A Promising Sign For Season 2

Bobbie, Isabella, and Emmett in Happy's Place season 1 finale

One of the biggest challenges for sitcoms is finding the correct balance between core character development and introducing new faces. Happy’s Place took a smart approach in season 1 by ensuring the audience had time to connect with Bobbie and the main cast before expanding its world. Now, with season 2 on the horizon, Abbott’s plan to bring back fan-favorite guest stars indicates that the show is evolving naturally while keeping its heart intact.

By expanding Bobbie’s relationships outside the bar, Happy’s Place can explore new storylines that keep the show fresh and engaging. Whether it’s diving into Bobbie’s role as a mother, showcasing new dynamics with Maritza, or introducing additional guest stars, season 2 is shaping up to be a compelling next chapter.

Isabella Strahan, the daughter of Good Morning America co-anchor Michael Strahan, is set to recount her cancer journey in the upcoming ABC News documentary, Life Interrupted: Isabella Strahan’s Fight Against Cancer, set to premiere on February 5 on ABC at 10 p.m. ET and the next day on Disney+ and Hulu.

On Thursday (January 30), Good Morning America aired the first trailer for the upcoming documentary, yubi in which an emotional Isabella opens up about her cancer battle.

“You don’t really think the worst until you get told the worst,” the 20-year-old says in the video clip, beginning to tear up. “I couldn’t even process really, I was in shock.”

The trailer also shows comments from her father, Michael, who says, “The first thing that went through my mind was this must be a mistake. It didn’t seem real.” He also adds, “I was just scared.”

Michael continues, “[Isabella] told me at one point, ‘I’ll do whatever I gotta do because I don’t wanna die.’ And I was like, wow.”

Isabella was diagnosed with medulloblastoma in October 2023, which, according to the Mayo Clinic, is “a cancerous brain tumor that starts in the lower back part of the brain” and “is most common in children.”

Following her diagnosis, she underwent several surgeries and rounds of treatment, including six weeks of radiation therapy followed by multiple rounds of chemotherapy. In July 2024, she shared a YouTube video where she revealed the results of her latest MRI scans and confirmed she was cancer-free.

The primetime special documentary is produced by ABC News Studios and Michael’s production company SMAC Entertainment. It will follow Isabella’s journey from the time she was diagnosed until she was announced as being cancer-free, including comments from Michael and other family members, including her twin sister and mom.

In December, Isabella shared a gallery of bikini photos on a beach in the Bahamas, calling back to a similar post she made in December 2023, when the family spent the holidays in the Bahamas, and Isabella was sporting a shaved head.

Sam Champion returned to Good Morning America on Friday, October 18 after a leave of absence for under-eye skin cancer surgery. The spot was “larger and deeper than I’d expected,” he shared, as he bravely sported a sizable scar on the air.

The beloved weather anchor has been documenting his skin cancer battle on social media (photos below), and for his live TV comeback, he detailed his surgery along with prevention tips.

“I hope that one day, no, one has to go through surgery to get rid of skin cancer,” Champion said. Recalling how he developed skin cancer, he explained: “I love nothing more than being outside. But these days, I wouldn’t think about going outside without sunscreen. It wasn’t always the case.”

“I don’t even have any way of counting how many times I had blistering sunburns. That was just the story of my life yubi,” Champion was shown telling dermatologist Dr. Anthony Rossi at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, where he underwent skin cancer surgery on October 1.

As Champion further detailed, the “spot right under my eye” turned out to be a nodular basal cell carcinoma. “These skin cancers can grow like icebergs,” Rossi could be seen explaining at the hospital. “So, sometimes we only see the tip of the iceberg on the top of the skin, and as we go down and cut through we actually see it get wider or deeper.”

That was unfortunately the case for Champion. During Mohs surgery, his cancer was determined to have spread much deeper into his skin. The doctor explained Mohs is a “technique of surgery where not only do we just cut it out, but we actually look at it under the microscope in real time while you’re waiting… we just want to get out the cancer.” Champion also underwent laser treatment to remove some “dark, precancerous spots” on his face.

“While I can’t go back in time these days, we know more and I don’t leave home without putting on sunscreen,” Champion said. He also shared that he wasn’t allowed to put any cover-up makeup or ointment on the scar just yet, as the stitches were removed just a day prior. Still, he said: “The scar is not the problem. The skin cancer is the problem. We got rid of that.”

GMA shared a clip of Champion’s on-air update on Instagram where fans sent him their well wishes.

“Get well my dear Sam,” one fan commented.

“The sun is not our skin’s friend! I had a melanoma on my leg!! Get well!!” wrote another.

In an Instagram video shared the day before his appearance, Champion shared more details about his healing process, saying that he wasn’t allowed to hit the gym or “vigorously” wash his face. But as he shared on GMA, “The next phase of my journey will be scar care and trust me, there’s a lot of advancement in that as well.”

Champion also advised viewers to not be concerned if they hear they’ll need skin cancer surgery, explaining that scar treatment options these days are more advanced. “You know me, I’m going to try all of these things and I’ll tell you how they work, and I’m going to end up looking like I’m 20 years old,” Champion joked.

Champion has battled skin cancer for decades and received his first diagnosis in his mid-20s. Ever since then, he’s had multiple surgeries to remove suspicious moles. In May 2010, he underwent live-on-air surgery on GMA. He’s blamed his skin cancer on bad suntanning advice he got growing up.

He also shared that sunscreen has come a long way since the “goopy” stuff he grew up using. He concluded: “No matter how old you are — my first one was at 26 — no matter what your skin tone, your skin type, your skin color, they’re cutting skin cancer off of everybody. So, it’s everybody’s issue.”

ABC News Blasts Robin Roberts & George Stephanopoulos Feud Rumors

ABC News has slammed reports of beef between two of its top anchors as “ridiculous gossip,” saying that claims of on-air tension and behind-the-scenes disputes are completely “unfounded.”

The news network’s statement came after a report from Breaker Media, which claimed Good Morning America stars George Stephanopoulos and Robin Roberts have a “chilly” relationship. One part of the report claims that Stephanopolous prefers to play chess on his phone rather than even look at Roberts during off-air moments.

Breaker also claimed that the culture at ABC News, the network that broadcasts Good Morning America, is “secretive and cold.”

“This is unfounded, ridiculous gossip designed to get clicks and nothing more,” an ABC spokesperson told The U.S. Sun.

This isn’t the first time Stephanopoulos has been at the center of rumor and speculation regarding his relationships with his co-workers. The U.S. Sun previously reported that Stephanopoulos clashed with World News Tonight host David Muir over the size of their respective dressing rooms.

“George has been interested in making sure he gets whatever David Muir gets,” an insider told the outlet. “He’s been asking people on his team to find out what David is getting to make sure his is comparable.”

However, another supposed insider shot down the claims, telling the publication there was “no merit” to Stephanopoulos asking about Muir’s dressing room.

Muir became the lead anchor of breaking news and special event coverage for ABC News in 2021, yubi a role previously held by Stephanopoulos from 2014 to 2020.

Other alleged insiders told the New York Post that Stephanopoulos is “miserable” at the network, especially since having to apologize on-air to President Donald Trump after he erroneously claimed the then-president-elect was found “liable for rape” against writer E. Jean Carroll, rather than the correct phrasing of “sexual abuse.”

Trump sued Stephanopoulos and the network for defamation, leading to a $16 million settlement.

“George seems miserable,” one source told The Post. “He’s definitely gone. He’s a dead man walking for sure.”

Another insider, though, denied the claims that Stephanopoulos was on his way out, saying, “This is nonsense. Anyone watching GMA can see he’s engaged, all-in and as committed as ever. He’s happy to be here.”

When The Conners returns to ABC, another very familiar face will be making appearance, and they may be an even bigger cause for concern

The Conners Casts Five-Time Emmy Winner With Connection To Roseanne For Final Episodes

The Conners is recruiting a five-time Emmy winner with a connection to Roseanne for its final episodes. It was recently announced that The Conners season 7 will be bringing in Austin Powers and Buffy the Vampire Slayer alum Seth Green for a three-episode run as a new friend of Darlene’s. Based on the character description, yubi Green’s addition could add some conflict to the spinoff’s last episodes. When the show returns to ABC on Wednesday, March 26 at 8 PM ET, another very familiar face will be making a guest appearance, and they may be an even bigger cause for concern.

TVLine confirms that Glee and Only Murders in the Building star Jane Lynch will recur in the six-episode final season. The five-time Emmy winner will debut in the season’s second episode, playing an attorney for the titular dysfunctional family. This comes after the premiere, in which Jackie discovers an opportunity to sue the pharmaceutical company responsible for Roseanne’s addiction that ultimately led to her death.

Lynch is well-known for her role as Sue Sylvester on Glee, in addition to her recent turn as Sazz Pataki on Hulu’s Only Murders in the BuildingShe’ll appear in two episodes as Jean, who is referred to in the official character description as “a seedy lawyer in a cheap suit.” Jean has a drinking problem, which becomes an issue when she gets hired to help the Conners in their case.

What Jane Lynch’s Character Means For The Conners

The Show Is Going Back To The Start

Lynch’s casting comes after the announcement that Green is joining the cast as Darlene’s new friend Chad. While present at the Lobo, a central location on the sitcom, Chad is also going through a separation from his wife. He’ll hit it off with Darlene throughout three episodes, as the two share a sharp sense of humor. Combined with the casting of Lynch, it’s easy to see how The Conners is going back to the core of the series for the final episodes.

Sara Gilbert's Darlene and John Goodman's Dan in front of The Conners title card

Chad may go too far by harshly insulting Darlene’s family in front of her. Jean presents an even bigger difficulty, though, since the lawyer will drudge up the feelings of loss that Jackie, Dan, Darlene, Becky, and the rest of the family feel over Roseanne. It is confirmed that Jean’s introduction will lead to a debate, allowing for Roseanne’s presence as a character to still be felt after her exit. It’s a smart choice from executive producers Bruce Helford and Dave Caplan to tie it back to what started the spinoff.

Our Take On Jane Lynch Joining The Conners

    It’s A Strong Choice

Green and Lynch are not the only ones joining The Conners cast. Zoe Perry is also on tap for the final season, playing a cop and sharing the screen with her mother Laurie Metcalf (Jackie). But with Lynch, who has won Emmys for hosting game shows, in addition to memorable guest performances, it may be the emotional way to wrap up the show’s seven-year run, with Roseanne becoming the root of setting up the final episodes.
