Eve’s Mysterious Disappearance From Last Man Standing—The Truth That’s Turning Heads

The SHOCKING Truth Behind Eve’s “Last Man Standing” Vanishing Act REVEALED! For years, fans have whispered and theorized about why Kaitlyn Dever’s beloved Eve Baxter faded from “Last Man Standing.” Now, the REAL story can finally be told, and it’s more dramatic than anyone imagined!

Why Kaitlyn Dever’s Eve Baxter Left Last Man Standing

Tim Allen as Mike Baxter and Kaitlyn Dever as Eve Baxter in Last Man StandingABC

2011 was a huge year for Kaitlyn Dever. Though she was only 14 at the time, the up-and-coming actor booked small parts in two high profile movies (“Bad Teacher” and Clint Eastwood’s “J. Edgar”), popped as tough Kentucky cookie Loretta McCready in the magnificent second season of “Justified,” and joined the main cast of Tim Allen’s new sitcom “Last Man Standing.” That’s quite a range of shows and films, and this ensured Dever would get to flaunt her burgeoning talent all the way across the demographic spectrum.

For families with young viewers, “Last Man Standing” was the kind of relentlessly inoffensive sitcom they could watch together without worrying there’d be a ribald gag or profanity. Say what you will about Allen (and I’m quite certain the cocaine dealers he snitched on in 1978 to avoid serving a length prison sentence have said plenty about him), he knows what his audience expects from him, and, as we know from the legitimately great work he’s done (“Galaxy Quest” and the “Toy Story” movies), the man knows his way around a joke. He possesses an amiable presence and ace comedic timing.

Dever does, too, so it’s hardly surprising to learn that the veteran Allen quickly identified her talent and took her under his wing over six seasons while she played his youngest daughter on “Last Man Standing.” If you’ve watched this show, you know this warmth extends to their characters. Allen’s Mike Baxter is a manly dude who, of his three daughters, obviously likes Dever’s tomboy Eve the best. So why did Dever leave the show after season 6?

When Last Man Standing was briefly cancelled, Kaitlyn Dever found work elsewhere

Tim Allen as Mike Baxter has a heart-to-heart with Eve Baxter in Last Man StandingABC

At the close of its sixth season, “Last Man Standing” was the second highest rated sitcom on ABC. The series was a cinch for renewal. So the entire television industry was left gasping when the network unceremoniously brought the axe down in 2017.

Some suspected this was a response to Allen going on “The Jimmy Kimmel Show” and comparing his plight as a Hollywood conservative at the outset of the first Trump administration to Germans who opposed the Nazis in 1930s Germany. Regardless of the rationale, the show was dead, which left its cast and crew scrambling to find new gigs.

The timing couldn’t have been better for Dever. She’d just entered her twenties and was set to showcase her considerable talents in projects that were a tad weightier or more clever than “Last Man Standing.” So she went out and booked roles in “The Front Runner” and “Beautiful Boy,” which wound up being a problem for Allen and company when Fox announced they were bringing back “Last Man Standing” for its seventh season.

It was too late at this juncture to get Dever back as a series regular. Allen understood, but he couldn’t help but get melancholy over the departure of the young talent he’d helped nurture. As Allen told Fox News in 2020:

“We had an episode … where we had to change Eve’s room and it reminded me of real life. You know, your kid’s not coming back. They’ll visit, they’re not going anywhere, but they’re not coming back to the bedroom they grew up in. It was a really hard one for me to do based on my oldest daughter when she left.”

Happily for Allen, Dever wasn’t gone for good. She became a recurring cast member, and made sure she was available for the emotional series finale. Showrunner Kevin Abbott wouldn’t have had it any other way. “Tim [Allen] and Kaitlyn have always had such a special relationship,” he told The Wrap in 2021. “Not that he didn’t have it with the rest of the crew and everything, but I think he felt very fatherly to Kaitlyn.”

Dever has since become one of the brightest lights of her generation via terrific performances in “Booksmart,” “Rosaline” and “No One Will Save You.” She will no doubt be reinforcing this perception over the next two months with her portrayal of Abby in “The Last of Us” season 2.

Shifting Gears Season 2 Teases a Game-Changing Twist Fans Didn’t See Coming

Shifting Gears Finale’s Strangest Callback Hints At A Major Change In Season 2

Riley (Kat Dennings) and Gabriel/Gabe (Seann William Scott) sitting together on a couch in Shifting Gears season 1, episode 10.

Warning: SPOILERS for Shifting Gears episode 10.The pilot season of Shifting Gears has come to an end, but one moment in the finale implies the sitcom may be changing its trajectory for the better. The ABC sitcom follows Tim Allen as Matt Parker, widower and owner of an auto restoration shop run by the affable Gabriel/Gabe (Seann William Scott), witty Stitch (Daryl “Chill” Mitchell), and underdeveloped but present Frankie (Cynthia Quiles). The inciting incident of the comedy comes when Matt’s daughter, Riley (Kat Dennings), suddenly moves home with her children, Carter (Maxwell Simkins) and Georgia (Barrett Margolis), to escape a failing marriage.

Though the premise wasn’t anything groundbreaking, Shifting Gears garnered impressive viewership off the bat, yubi due in no small part to Allen’s leading role. After 10 episodes, Shifting Gears season 1 wrapped up with a soft conclusion and many purposefully unresolved storylines. While Shifting Gears season 2 has still yet to be officially confirmed by ABC, it’s difficult to imagine that the network won’t renew the comedy given the substantial ratings it’s pulled in since January. The ending of Shifting Gears season 1 left much up in the air, but one quick scene could have subtle implications for the sitcom’s future.

Seann William Scott’s “Dude, Where’s My Car?” Reference In Shifting Gears Episode 10 Explained

    A Single But Significant Line

Gabriel (Seann William Scott) and Riley (Kat Dennings) in Shifting Gears

While Tim Allen may have been the headliner, one character has been a scene-stealer in Shifting Gears since the pilot: Gabe. From his endearing naivety to reliable comic relief, Gabe is undeniably one of Shifting Gears’ best side characters thanks to the work of Seann William Scott. The Shifting Gears season finale even references one of Scott’s most iconic roles when Riley walks into the auto shop, looks at Gabe, and asks: “Dude, where’s my car?” Scott starred in a film of the same name alongside Ashton Kutcher, and it remains one of the most memorable titles in Scott’s filmography.

The absurd mix of science fiction and comedy earned Dude, Where’s My Car? poor critical reception, but the film garnered a cult following that persists decades after its initial release.

Shifting Gears made many not-so-subtle callbacks to Allen’s past roles throughout the pilot season, even setting up a Tim Allen shared universe in Shifting Gears set designs and guest stars. However, Riley’s on-the-nose reference to one of Scott’s biggest roles is a blissful departure from Shifting Gears’ Tim Allen tunnel vision. The callback didn’t require any extra meandering to draw attention to it, just a line from Riley and a quick reaction shot from Gabe. The scene then continued without delay, but the quick wink to Scott could indicate a new and necessary direction for Shifting Gears season 2.

Shifting Gears Season 1 Finale’s Non-Tim Allen Reference Hints At Its Season 2 Story Approach

The Sitcom Is Broadening Its Scope

While ABC marketing Shifting Gears as a Tim Allen sitcom was undeniably the most logical move, the comedy needs to expand its horizons if it wants long-term success. There are many talented actors in the Shifting Gears cast of characters, and the Dude, Where’s My Car? reference indicates the sitcom realizes this as well. The plot can’t stray too far from the Parker family, but it doesn’t have to in order to celebrate its ensemble. In fact, exploring individual characters would inevitably lead back to Matt, given he’s connected to everyone as a father, grandfather, boss, or neighbor.

    Frankie

    Jenna Elfman
    Eve

Seann William Scott is only one member of the Shifting Gears cast with iconic past roles that can be playfully worked into the script. Kat Dennings is recognizable to many as Max from 2 Broke Girls, Daryl Mitchell and Jenna Elfman (Eve) both worked on Fear the Walking Dead, and even Maxwell Simkins is widely remembered as Zane from Bizaardvark. While Jenna Elfman’s character in Shifting Gears hasn’t been around long enough to necessarily warrant a callback, it’s reassuring to know the sitcom has at least opened the door to acknowledging its full cast.

Why Shifting Gears Expanding Its Narrative Beyond Tim Allen Is Great

The Ensemble Cast Could Be The Key To Longevity

Matt (Tim Allen), Carter (Maxwell Simkins), Georgia (Barrett Margolis), and Riley (Kat Dennings) around the kitchen in Shifting Gears.

Beyond callbacks and inside jokes, the entire Shifting Gears cast deserves more screen time in general. Matt’s character in Shifting Gears doesn’t have to be sidelined, but letting others shine will help the sitcom in the long run. There are only so many iterations of Riley and Matt clashing heads that Shifting Gears can air before it becomes exhausting. Frankie, Stitch, and Gabe could get into a fight, leading to an episode where the auto shop can’t function. Georgia and Carter could have a sibling squabble, leaving Matt and Riley to defuse the situation. Inevitably, some much-needed originality would ensue.

    Tim Allen in Shifting Gears

Admittedly, the sitcom has already vastly improved from the early reviews of Shifting Gears that seemed to spell doom for Tim Allen’s return to network television. Certain episodes of Shifting Gears season 1 did focus on other characters— albeit only partially— and were irrefutably better because of it. Of course, there’s still room to improve and make Shifting Gears the fun family comedy it has the potential to be. Involving its diverse cast more, even with something as small as a one-liner reference, is the first step to Shifting Gears embracing its ensemble and setting season 2 up for success.

Sad News Shakes Jeopardy!—Fans React to Emotional Announcement That’s Left the Show Reeling

‘Jeopardy!’ Bosses Rocked by Ratings Disaster as Viewership Hits New Low

    Ken Jennings
    Disney/Christopher Willard

Jeopardy! bosses have been hit by a ratings crash for Celebrity Jeopardy! which hit a new low for last Wednesday’s (January 29) episode on ABC which was watched by fewer than 2 million viewers.

According to Nielsen ratings, the latest episode of the Celeb spinoff, featuring Roy Wood Jr., Brian Jordan Alvarez, and Phoebe Robinson, dropped to 1.84 million viewers and 0.20 in the key 18-49 demo, marking the show’s lowest rating since it debuted in 2022.

Wednesday’s episode was beaten in a head-to-head with CBS’ The Price Is Right At Night, which landed 2.95 million viewers and 0.27 in the 18-49 demo.

The latest Celebrity Jeopardy! numbers were down 40% from the previous week, which did 2.52 million viewers and 0.30 in the key demo, and were also over 40% off the show’s lead-in, Abbott Elementary, which reached a 0.34 demo (and 2.63 million viewers).

Overall, Celebrity Jeopardy! ranked in ninth place on the broadcast networks for the night, tied with Fox’s Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test. In also ranked the lowest of the four game shows on that night, including Hollywood Squares (.30), The Price is Right at Night (.27), and Raid the Cage (.20).

Viewers have taken to the Jeopardy! Reddit forum to discuss the falling ratings, with many offering their opinions on why the Celebrity edition of the long-running game show appears to be struggling.

“The questions on CJ are insufferably easy. Sucks the fun out of it,” said one commenter.

“That’s the thing. For me, trying to answer the questions is 80% of the pleasure of watching. If the questions are “This city is the capital of France” then what’s the freaking point?” agreed another.

“No offense to them, but I didn’t know any of the CJ celebrities this week. That definitely doesn’t help,” added another fan.

“My wife and I call it “Unknown Celebrity Jeopardy,”” another quipped. “It is very likely that the pool of actual celebrities that would feel confident on Jeopardy is probably small.”

Celebrities that have appeared so far this season include the likes of Neil deGrasse Tyson, Seth Green, Rachel Brosnahan, Camilla Luddington, Margaret Cho, and Max Greenfield.

Another said, “I think yearly is too frequent for CJ. It should be an event.”

Celebrity Jeopardy! debuted on September 25, 2022, with Mayim Bialik serving as host. Season 2 premiered on September 27, 2023, with Ken Jennings taking over as host after Bialik stepped away in solidarity with the writers’ strike. Bialik was later let go as Jeopardy! host in December 2023, with Jennings becoming the permanent host for both the syndicated edition and specials.

Another Reddit user shared their thoughts, writing, “I may be in the minority here but I hate all the extra banter. Every now and then ok cool. But literally after everything nahhhh I’ll pass on watching it.”

“I am in this same group,” another responded. “I don’t idolize nor care about most celebrities. I don’t want to hear them make jokes and talk about their causes and achievements. I don’t care to see them play Jeopardy, poorly for the most part.”

“Well. Yeah. It sucks. The questions are insanely easy. The contestants are deathly afraid of Daily Doubles. And all they do is go one category at a time, in order. It’s painful to watch,” said one commenter.

Another added, “I think we have reached over saturation of the Jeopardy brand.”

“It was dumb to release Celebrity Jeopardy! and Pop Culture Jeopardy! at the same time. Save one or the other for summer when nothing else is going on,” said another.

Pop Culture! Jeopardy is currently airing on Prime Video, and fans seem to be enjoying it.

“That is what I enjoy about pop culture jeopardy. It feels that the questions are of similar difficulty as regular jeopardy just a different genre of questions,” wrote one Reddit user.

“I’m really enjoying pop culture jeopardy as well. Still some challenging questions,” added another.

Antics of contestants on “The Price is Right” are one of the things that make the show entertaining and relatable, but sometimes their joy can be too much for the host and audience alike.

In a rare moment on the show, another person from the audience came down to celebrate with the contestant and they both collapsed to the floor together in front of model Alexis Gaube, who seemed helpless and baffled.

The contestant in question was a woman named Alexandria and she had made it to the final round of the show, which was Showcase Showdown. Her opponent was bidding for a trip to the Seychelles and a car, and the price she guessed was $5,793 less than the actual value of both prizes. This gave Alexandria a chance to seal the deal if she could guess the price of a hot tub and the trip.

But unlike a lot of other contestants, she had help. Her mother was in the studio and she was determined to help her daughter out. With her guidance, Alexandria guessed $22,500 as the price of both the trip and the hot tub, and that was only $164 away from the actual price of both prizes.

The rules of the game state that if a contestant guesses an amount within $250 of the actual price of the items, they win both showcases, including the car.

Alexandria rushed over to the location of the car and her mother also made her way onto the stage and hugged her. In their excitement, they fell to the floor while the rest of the people on stage didn’t know what to do as per TV Shows Ace.

“The Price is Right” audience has always been quite helpful to the competitors for decades now. Even when Bob Barker was the host, the people behind the camera never shied away from helping a contestant win big. A contestant named Brenda experienced this nature of the audience as well.

She was playing the Any Number game to win the prize. In this game, there are three rows. The first row had four digits that represented the price of the car. The second row had three digits that represented the price of the teddy bears.

The third row also had three digits that represented a certain amount of cash in a piggy bank. The numbers available were 0 to 9 and no digit repeated itself.

The contestant had to guess a number that appeared in its corresponding box.

The first object with its price revealed was to be awarded to the player. Before guessing every single digit, yubi, Brenda turned to the audience for help.

It took some time and the situation turned tense, but she ultimately revealed the price of the car first thanks to the people in the studio and got what she had wanted the most..

When Does Celebrity Wheel of Fortune Come Back?

Celebrity Wheel of Fortune was set to premiere on October 14, but sadly, the date has been pushed back considerably. The show will now air beginning mid-season — and it’s all due to football.

Celebrity Wheel of Fortune will now premiere in 2025, according to an October 11 press release from ABC. “Celebrity Wheel of FortunePress Your Luck and ABC News’ Scamanda will premiere in 2025,” ABC said in a press release shared with TVLine. ABC is adding “six Monday Night Football simulcasts to its previously announced schedule,” forcing the network to bump Celebrity Wheel of Fortune.

The statement explained: “ABC is a destination for marquee NFL programming including, as part of our new deal, Super Bowl 61 (February 2027), the first of two. The decision to add more simulcast games was made in conjunction with the NFL and is just for the 2024-25 season. This schedule leans into the cross-promotional opportunities maximizing the reach of NFL programming across the Disney ecosystem. ESPN has already aired four exclusive games during 2024 season and will have three additional exclusive games, with two in November and one in December. There are 25 Games on ESPN’s 2024 NFL Schedule.”

Pat Sajak's Last 'Wheel of Fortune' Episode — Vanna White Tribute

The statement added: “Furthermore, this move will give the ABC game shows Celebrity Wheel of Fortune and Press Your Luck a more consistent, weekly run in midseason when there are less preemptions (i.e. football, 2024 election).”

So far, there’s no firm date set for the premiere of Celebrity Wheel of Fortune. Some of the episodes have already been filmed since it was expected to air in October 2024.

In June, Sajak announced he was leaving his hosting job at Wheel of Fortune but fans were thrilled that he would be on hand to give his final spin on the celebrity version. Ryan Seacrest took over hosting duties for Sajak beginning with Season 42 of the original game show.

The Celebrity Wheel of Fortune trailer, which was shared earlier this month on the show’s Instagram, has now been removed. In the video, Sajak, standing alongside Vanna White, said, “Get ready for an all-new season of Celebrity Wheel of Fortune.” She noted, “Big names, big laughs, and big wins for charity.”

The post’s caption promised: “The stars are coming out for Pat’s final spin! See you October 14 for the season premiere of #CelebrityWheelOfFortune.”

Among the stars competing for $1 million to go to the charity of their choosing are: Rainn Wilson, Ellie Kemper, and Oscar Nuñez from The Office, Josh Gad, Justin Long, and Rachael Harris, who appeared on New Girl, and Veep stars Sam Richardson, Randall Park, and Matt Walsh. Vanna, 66, told People this week that she’s secure in her relationship, ring or not.

She shared: “I mean, we’ve been together 12 years, and I feel like we are married.”

“Do we have to get married? No, because we feel comfortable in our relationship. You know what I mean?

“I know that he’s the one. He knows I’m the one.”

Vanna and the JDC Construction + Development Group founder haven’t discussed the topic of marriage, according to the outlet.

    ‘HE LETS ME BE ME’

“We don’t really talk about it, but you never know,” she added.

“I mean, I guess we could, but in my eyes and his eyes, we are married.”

Vanna also said the relationship has lasted over a decade because John: “is the male version of me.”

“We really are very similar. We get along so well. He’s easy. He’s easy, and he lets me be me, and I let him be him.”

Vanna and the real estate developer met in 2012 when a friend brought him to one of her barbecues, they began dating soon after.

Vanna told People that a decade after splitting from her first husband she was won over by John right away.

“I remember looking at him and thinking, ‘He’s really cute,’” she said with a laugh. “We ended up talking for a long time that night.”

    VANNA’S FAM!

Vanna shares daughter Gigi, 26, and son Nikko, 29, with her first and only husband – restaurant owner George Santo Pietro.

They got married in 1990 and amicably split in 2002.

Gigi works at a tattoo studio in Venice, California, and loves showing off her stick-and-poke illustrations on her Instagram.

    MATCHING TATS?

Vanna also shared she loves how her children both have creative sides and she’s not opposed to letting her daughter give her some ink.

“You know what, I want to have matching hearts where she’ll do a little heart on me and she’ll do one on herself,” Vanna added to People.

“I feel like I need to do that because it’s her and it would be her on me.”

Vanna admitted that she “never dreamed” that her daughter – who graduated from NYU with an art degree – would become a tattoo artist.

“I said, ‘Gigi, why tattooing?” She goes, ‘Mom, my art is on someone’s body for the rest of their lives.’ I was like, ‘That’s pretty cool.’ You have to be so good and confident. You can’t mess up.

“So she absolutely loves it. She’s been doing that for the past three years and is doing a great job. I’m so, so proud of her,” she continued.

“They’re both artistic. Nico does artwork for fun. That’s his escape from the real world, his real life is in real estate, which is good for him. So he’s loving that as well.”

“From the time they were born, I wanted them to do whatever they wanted to do in life,” she shared.

Vanna has had a winning month as she extended her Wheel of Fortune contract until 2026 after months of tense negotiations.

Vanna will stay on for the first two years that Pat Sajak’s successor, Ryan Seacrest, hosts.

She also launched a Wheel-themed makeup line which she called: “So cute” and “hopefully the start of something big!”

What Do The Price Is Right Models Really Make? The Long-Hidden Truth Has Finally Been Uncovered

Ever Wonder What “The Price is Right” Models REALLY Make? The Surprising Truth is Finally HERE! For decades, they’ve been the epitome of glamour, but the actual salaries of these iconic figures will utterly SHOCK you. Forget your wildest guesses – the real numbers are far more unexpected than you could ever imagine

How much do ‘The Price is Right’ models get paid? Surprisingly, it’s a lot more than you’d think

The entertainment industry attracts millions across the globe to make the most of their talent and earn big bucks. Although all contestants in TV game shows may not walk home with a grand prize, the host, the production staff and actors who appear in the background also get paid well.

Among them are the models on the show “The Price is Right,” who earn a hefty paycheck while showcasing the prizes being offered. The game show gives members of the audience a chance to guess the price of some products and the person with the most accurate estimate takes the prizes home.

According to a Quora user, the models on the game show earn around $100,000 annually. Another user revealed in the comments that the daily rate at which they are paid is $800, and the models reportedly work on the show for six months out of a year.

While due diligence hasn’t been done yet to verify the numbers, it is a pretty well-known fact that some of the popular models such as Rachel Reynold have a net worth of $4 million. Apart from appearing on the gameshow, the model has been a part of Hollywood projects including “Cellular” and “Lonely Hearts.”

Another popular model is Manuela Arbeláez who has been a part of the gameshow since 2008. Her main source of wealth is reportedly her career as a model and according to The U.S Sun, the model has a net worth of $1 million. Therefore, even if the figures cannot be corroborated, the net worth of the models does indicate that they are being compensated well, in addition to the popularity that they’ve achieved.

With high ratings translating into ad revenues, game shows can afford to pay high salaries to their employees while shelling out millions in prizes for the contestants. Game Shows such as “Jeopardy” and “The Price is Right” make money mostly thanks to the production network that charges the advertisers for ad space on the shows. Some of these game shows are syndicated, which means that most revenue comes from local affiliates who pay for the rights to air them. An added advantage of being a syndicated show is the access to hundreds of local markets with their respective networks paying for the broadcasting rights.

This whole system works as TV spots are pretty expensive, which was rightly pointed out by Reddit user u/kbergstr who claimed that a national 30-second ad spot costs between $100,000 and 120,000. The “Price is Right” television game show first aired back on September 4, 1972, on CBS, and Bob Barker hosted the show for the longest time from its first episode until his retirement in June 2007, which is when Drew Carey took over. The “Price Is Right” has been aired for more than 9,000 episodes since its debut and is the longest-running game show in the country. The 53rd season premiered this year in September with a daytime as well as a primetime episode.

Hackman Capital Partners, which bought Television City for $750 million from CBS Corp. in 2019, is planning a $1.25 billion renovation of the landmark complex. In addition to The Price Is Right, it had been housing CBS’ The Late Late Show with James Corden, which ended its run this spring, as well as The Young and the RestlessDancing with the Stars, American Idol and Real Time with Bill Maher, which are solidifying moving arrangements.

Hackman’s plan for Television City would raise the number of stages to at least 15, from eight, along with production support facilities and offices for rent. The four original stages built by CBS at the campus’ launch in 1952 would be preserved, along with other historical design elements created by Los Angeles architect William Pereira. At the time of the 2019 sale, CBS remained a tenant, keeping its Television City-based productions in place.

The Price Is Right, created by Bob Stewart, Mark Goodson and Bill Todman, premiered on September 4, 1972. Bob Barker hosted the program from its inception until his retirement in 2007, when Carey took over.

The stage, which was previously home to The Carol Burnett Show, The Jack Benny Program, and The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour, among others, was dedicated to Barker in 1998.

  • Shifting Gears Season 2 Cast Drop Sends Fans Into Frenzy—Major Changes Ahead!

Shifting Gears Season 2 Cast Drop Sends Fans Into Frenzy—Major Changes Ahead!

Yes! Shifting Gears Getting Renewed Means It Can Introduce The Character I’m Most Interested In

Seann William Scott as Gabriel and Kat Dennings as Riley drinking coffee in Shifting Gears

Now that Shifting Gears has officially secured season 2, there’s one highly-anticipated character to join the Parkers when the family sitcom returns. Tim Allen leads the Shifting Gears cast of characters as widower Matt Parker, whose grief and gruff personality often causes him to clash with his contrasting daughter, Riley (Kat Dennings). The inciting event of the series sees Riley return home after 15 years with her own children in tow: endearingly awkward teen Carter (Maxwell Simkins) and enterprising youngest child Georgia (Barrett Margolis). Shifting Gears quickly establishes the tense relationship between Riley and her father, but desperation supersedes pride.

Riley and Matt grow individually throughout Shifting Gears season 1, but their relationship has also incrementally mended as the two have been forced to resolve their frequent conflicts. With Shifting Gears joining the list of shows renewed by ABC for the 2025-26 season, the existing characters can continue to develop— more importantly, the cast can expand and enrich the overarching storylines. The employees at Matt’s auto-restoration shop, Gabriel (Seann William Scott), Stitch (Daryl “Chill” Mitchell), and Frankie (Cynthia Quiles), have already added a unique layer to the series. However, the Parker family still has one missing member to introduce.

Shifting Gears Teased Matt’s Son & Riley’s Brother — Sammy

    Unseen But Not Unknown

Kat Dennings as Riley and Tim Allen as Matt in Shifting Gears.

Although Matt and Riley are firmly planted at the center of Shifting Gears, the sitcom has been haunted by two missing family members: Diane and Sammy. Diane, Riley’s mother and Matt’s wife, passed away prior to the series, but the aftermath of her death is still impacting the main characters. Alternatively, Sammy has been mentioned multiple times— and even has a one-sided phone call with Riley at the beginning of the season— but his presence has been more subtle, obviously implying an inevitable appearance. Out of Shifting Gears’ biggest unanswered questions, when Sammy will return is definitely towards the top.

Sammy’s phone call with Riley doesn’t reveal his voice, meaning there’s still an opportunity for Shifting Gears to cast a big name as Riley’s brother.

There are already built-in dynamics for Sammy to fit into when he eventually shows up in Shifting Gears, but there’s still no telling what kind of personality the unseen character will have. It’s been established that Sammy used to be close with one of Shifting Gears’ scene-stealers, with him and Gabriel being childhood friends. Sammy’s phone call with Riley implies they’re close enough for a quick chat, but whether Sammy is more likely to take Riley or Matt’s side in a squabble is up in the air. Given that Sammy is in the Navy, his return will undoubtedly be eventful.

Shifting Gears Season 2 Means That Sammy Can Finally Be Introduced

A Second Season Means New Characters Alongside New Stories

Matt (Tim Allen), Carter (Maxwell Simkins), Georgia (Barrett Margolis), and Riley (Kat Dennings) around the kitchen in Shifting Gears.

Shifting Gears season 2 not only leaves the door open for Sammy to appear; it demands that Riley’s brother be present. Executive producer Michelle Nader confirmed Sam’s character in Shifting Gears season 2, describing him as “a great character for everyone to complain to!” The short line implies that Sammy will be a middleman for Riley and Matt, not quite a buffer and not quite a neutral party. There’s no exact timeframe for when Sammy will join Shifting Gears; his arrival may mirror Riley’s and come in the season premiere, but it might take more time.

Whenever Sammy makes his long-awaited entrance, he will surely become a strong influence on the unresolved plotlines, further complicating everything with his fresh perspective. Riley and Gabriel’s romance in Shifting Gears, slow as it has been burning, will certainly run into obstacles if Sammy objects. Now that Riley has committed to divorcing Jimmy (Lucas Neff), Shifting Gears can utilize Sammy as a part of Riley’s support system and explore his role as Carter and Georgia’s uncle. Of course, the biggest impact Sammy will have on any plot is the contentious relationship between his sister and his father.

How Sammy’s Debut Can Impact Matt & Riley’s Relationship In Shifting Gears Season 2

Sammy Can Triangulate The Family Comedy

Matt and Riley may have ended Shifting gears season 1 on a good note, but their characters are fundamentally bound to quarrel over everything important and everything inconsequential. Sammy could be a much-needed voice of reason, moderating their arguments and helping the combative father-daughter duo understand each other’s perspectives. Having a third voice in the discussion will help balance the episodic conflicts and add nuance rather than perpetuate the hostile dichotomy of Riley and Matt’s interactions. In short, Sammy could add shades of gray that make disagreements feel less like fighting for fighting’s sake in Shifting Gears season 2.

Regardless of whether Sammy turns out to be straitlaced like Matt or rebellious like Riley, his presence will be invaluable to Shifting Gears season 2.

Additionally, introducing Matt’s son in Shifting Gears can elongate the underlying narrative of complex grief without it feeling redundant. Riley and Matt have helped each other confront their unresolved trauma from Diane’s death, but it’s possible Sammy still needs to heal alongside his family, despite its occasional dysfunction. Regardless of whether Sammy turns out to be straitlaced like Matt or rebellious like Riley, his presence will be invaluable to Shifting Gears season 2. Hopefully, Sammy will integrate with the cast well enough to grow into a full-fledged character on his own, negating the need to act as a mere intermediary.
