  • ‘CBS This Morning’ has an UNPRECEDENTED BIG CHANGE that stunned fans

‘CBS This Morning’ has an UNPRECEDENTED BIG CHANGE that stunned fans

CBS is changing the name, look and sound of ‘CBS This Morning’

When CBS News relocates its morning newscast to Times Square, the show is getting yet another makeover with a new name and on air updates that incorporate the looks and sounds of the network’s iconic “Sunday Morning” broadcast — all in an effort to make every morning more consistent.

The show, currently known as “CBS This Morning,” will become “CBS Mornings,” starting Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2021, the day after Labor Day.

The show is getting a new (to it) logo that incorporates the sun icon used for years on “Sunday Morning” — as well a new orange and white color scheme done in the flatter style CBS is moving toward.

The new show logo is set in TT Norms, the font being used across the ViacomCBS empire, including replacing Didot in the CBS News logo.

A familiar theme song will also begin playing on the network six days a week: “CBS Mornings” will switch to the “Sunday Morning” theme, a trumpet fanfare performed by Wynton Marsalis based on the piece “Abblasen,” a piece attributed to Gottfried Reiche, who lived during the 1660s and 1730s.

CBS worked with Jack Morton Worldwide, under the direction of Creative Director Renee Cullen, to refresh the set it built on the second floor Times Square studio for the network’s 2020 election coverage.

Changes included switching out some of the metallic wall finishes with wood tones and updates to the floors to feature simulated white, wide plank wood flooring with blonde wood overlays.

Based on photos released by CBS, the updated set retains the circular anchor desk found at its existing set at the CBS Broadcast Center, but with a backlit center accented with vertical blonde wood elements.

The CBS eye logo is not longer “etched” into the glass — but rather is created using wood and metallic toned materials.

Behind the primary anchor area is a large LED video wall topped with video ribbons — with the option to feed a virtual set extension that creates the illusion of a curved backed of “windows” behind the anchor desk — with oversized CBS eye and sun “etchings.”

The photos don’t clearly indicate if the windows overlooking Times Square will be used — they were covered during election broadcasts — but it also seems it would easy to flip the anchors to the opposite side of the circular desk to shoot them against the sprawling Times Square backdrop (CBS’s logo has the advantage of being able to “read” correctly from either direction).

Promotional clips also indicate that some of the on-set work areas built for election coverage may remain, a feature leftover from the old home at Studio 57. There’s also a brief glimpse at what appears to be a white faux exposed brick wall installed camera left of the main area, perhaps an effort to carry over some of that look for the old set.

One side features an alcove that was originally designed as a standup location for exit polling on election night. It is now set up with sofas and a coffee table, though it’s not clear if this is meant as the on camera green room that “CTM” had in Studio 57 or will be used on air for interviews — or perhaps both.

By renaming “CBS This Morning,” this will mark the second time the network has abandoned the name for its morning show. It was originally used from 1987 to 1999, when the show rebranded as “The Early Show” and began broadcasting from a windowed studio in the General Motors building in NYC.

In 2012, the network announced it would switch back to the “CBS This Morning” name.

Part of the strategy with the name change is to better connect the weekday morning show with the stalwart “Sunday Morning” show that’s been on the air since 1979.

To reinforce that branding, “CBS This Morning Saturday” will be renamed “CBS Saturday Morning.”

“The three morning broadcasts will share a similar look and editorial breadth,” reads the announcement.

“All CBS News morning broadcasts will now be part of the same family, with a focus on original reporting and exquisite storytelling, connected by the sound of the iconic trumpet music and an ethos of optimism that carries all the way through to the sunshine logo itself,” said Neeraj Khemlani, president co-head of CBS News and stations in a statement. “We’re adding a little bit of ‘CBS Sunday Morning’ – every morning – on ‘CBS Mornings.’”

CBS also noted that it will add expanded feature reporting in the second hour of the show, while sticking with a more hard news focus for the first hour.

CBS used a similar branding approach from 1980 to 1982, yubi when Charles Kuralt, who hosted “Sunday Morning” at the time, was brought to the weekday program in attempt to boost ratings. This format too used many of the same on air elements.

The changes also come with a new anchor joining the weekday team — Nate Burleson, a CBS Sports analyst and former NFLer, who is being brought in to replace Anthony Mason, who is expected to contribute “culture” reports to the show.

Jane Pauley will remain host of “Sunday Morning” while Jeff Glor, Dana Jacobson and Michelle Miller will continue to host the renamed Saturday edition.

CBS already airs a program called “CBS Morning News” as an early morning offering to affiliates, who typically air it right before their local morning newscasts. It frequently airs immediately follow “CBS Overnight News,” which, as its name implies, is the network’s nightside news broadcast, consisting largely of repeats of segments from “Evening News” mixed in with original anchor blocks.

In the wake of a social media backlash, CBS’ Gayle King says she is embarrassed and angry with how the network promoted part of her interview with WNBA star Lisa Leslie that concerned the late Kobe Bryant.

King responded via Twitter on Thursday to address the reaction to a video clip from her wide-ranging “CBS This Morning” interview with Leslie that aired Tuesday. The clip, distributed online and on CBS News’ social media accounts, focused on a portion of the interview where Leslie addressed a $—-xual assault charge that had been brought against Bryant and dismissed.

Bryant died in a helicopter crash in Southern California on Jan. 26.

“I know that if I had only seen the clip that you saw, I’d be extremely angry with me, too,” King said. “I am mortified, I am embarrassed and I’m very angry.”

CBS responded by agreeing that the excerpt “did not reflect the nature and tone” of the complete interview. “We are addressing the internal process that led to this and changes have already been made,” CBS said.

It wasn’t clear what those changes were. It’s a delicate situation for the news division, where King is likely its most bankable star.

In the interview, King asked Leslie whether Bryant’s legacy had been complicated by the assault case. Leslie said it hasn’t, and called on the media to be more respectful of Bryant’s memory. When Leslie noted that she had never seen improper behavior from Bryant, King said that she most likely wouldn’t have been in a position to see it.

After the alleged victim decided not to pursue the case, she and Bryant reached a settlement in 2005. Bryant, who was 24 at the time of the Colorado incident, said he had committed adultery, but not $—-xual assault.

King was taken to task on social media for bringing the topic up. “Woke up to this interview and was just really pissed off,” actress Vivica A. Fox tweeted.

Rapper Snoop Dogg attacked King in a profane Twitter video that concluded with urging her to back off “before we come get you.”

Actor, rap artist and television executive 50 Cent said in an interview with The Associated Press that he thought it was unfair to bring up the old allegations because Bryant was no longer around to defend himself.

“It’s just not the right thing to do,” he said.

Even Bill Cosby, weighed in from prison — or at least his official Twitter account did. In response to Snoop Dogg, disgraced comedian and convicted $—-x offender wrote: “Wwhen they brought me to my gated community and placed me inside of my penthouse, they didn’t win nor did they silence me. It’s so sad and disappointing that successful Black Women are being used to tarnish the image and legacy of successful Black Men even in death””

In her Twitter video, King said that she’d been advised to say nothing about the issue and ride it out, yubi “but that’s not good enough for me.

“I really want people to understand what happened here and how I’m feeling about it,” she said.

[SAD NEWS] Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes CALL OUT former GMA peers after leaving ABC

Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes call out former GMA peers for ‘fake’ support following romance revelation

The former Good Morning America co-hosts left ABC after their relationship was made public

Though since their departure from ABC, Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes have shouted-out their former colleagues for supporting them — and their relationship — it doesn’t apply to all of them.

The former Good Morning America anchors left the network shortly after news broke that they were in a relationship in late 2022, following their respective splits from Andrew Shue and Marilee Fiebig, though neither of the divorces had been publicized at the time; their exes are also now in a relationship with each other.

Over a year later, the couple is now giving insight into what those days were really like at the network, including the two days they returned to work as normal, and how everything changed once ABC cut ties with them.

During a recent live taping of their podcast, as Amy and T.J. reflected on the moment their relationship was made public, yubi a fan asked how their colleagues were at work during that time.

“When we came back for those two days, we were surrounded with support. My dressing room was full of all of our colleagues,” Amy shared, though T.J. then quipped: “Some of it fake, some of it fake, absolutely, some of it was B.S.”

Amy then revealed: “Once it was clear that we weren’t coming back, I never heard from most people again.”

Amy and T.J. worked for ABC for ten years

Despite the call out, T.J. did add: “We get that to a certain degree, right, everybody’s trying to hold onto their job,” noting: “They don’t want to be seen as being an ally of the two people that ABC News doesn’t like, and we get it to a certain degree.”

“Even we stayed away from some of our former colleagues because we were worried about them,” he added, revealing that they recently had lunch with Michael Strahan, who hosts GMA with Robin Roberts and George Stephanopoulos, and that even over a year later, they went out of their way to avoid calling attention to the fact that they were lunching together.

“That is the shame I’m talking about,” he said. “We struggled to get out of that mindset. But friends like that do help, and time helps.”

Amy also recalled: “I used to say, it’s not like I murdered someone, but I definitely felt like that’s how it seemed if you read comments anywhere.”

She did however share: “I will say when we did walk down the street, which we didn’t often, we got a lot of people yelling support, like, ‘We support you, we love you. Love is love.’”

Still, she noted: “It just it weighs you down to the point where you think I’m the worst person in the world, and you do feel like you’ve committed a crime. It’s bizarre.”

Good Morning America has been on the air since November 1975, and in its nearly five-decade run has seen a host of leading journalists command the helm of the morning news show.

Currently, the main 7 AM-9 AM slot is heralded by longtime anchors Robin Roberts and George Stephanopoulos, plus NFL legend Michael Strahan, who joined in 2016.

However, over the years, several notable names have walked down ABC News studios’ hallowed halls, having led partnerships on the show that have spanned years.

Take a look below at some of the most prominent hosts in GMA who’ve left the show behind, for one reason or another, from recently reunited vets, to a late night host you might be familiar with…

Charlie Gibson, now 81, is a prominent name in the broadcast news industry, and spent a majority of his on-screen tenure with ABC News, joining in 1975 and staying till his retirement in 2009.

He joined as a field correspondent before being promoted to host of GMA, staying in that position from 1987-1998, and once again from 1999-2006 with Diane Sawyer. Recently, Joan and Charlie reunited in surprising fashion — the pair made their theater in Falmouth, Massachusetts over the weekend to perform the play Love Letters for charity. Joan returned to TV in 2014 as a special correspondent for competitor NBC’s Today.

During his second stint as anchor, Charlie hosted alongside Diane Sawyer, now 78. After a few years working with the Nixon administration, Diane began her career with CBS News before moving to ABC in 1989.

One of the most high-profile women in broadcast journalism, Diane helped usher in a new age for GMA as a co-anchor from 1999-2009, also hosting World News Tonight, 20/20, and Primetime at different points of time. Since stepping away from World News Tonight in 2014, she has remained with the network, working on specials and conducting major interviews.

You might be surprised to learn that in the late ’90s, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert host, now 60, was once a correspondent for GMA. Well, technically speaking, at least.

While still developing his footing with comedy, and freelancing with the likes of Saturday Night Live, he filmed several humorous correspondent segments for GMA. However, only two of them were ever produced, and only one was aired. Stephen soon got his break, however, with The Daily Show and Strangers with Candy.

In 2018, she also began co-hosting 20/20 with David Muir. However, in January 2023, she was officially let go from the network after over a decade of work when it was revealed that she had begun a relationship with one of her co-hosts

GMA anchors’ off-screen relationships revealed — more on Robin Roberts, Michael Strahan, David Muir, and their co-hosts

The ABC News co-anchors have been hosting the morning show for a long time and have developed strong bonds

The anchors of ABC News’ morning news show Good Morning America have worked together for years now, but several also balance a host of other commitments when the hours are up. It’s surprising to learn, though, that their bonds off-screen go way deeper than just being colleagues.

The many hosts of the show have developed lasting friendships over the years, some having been part of the team for over a decade, and have supported each other through major milestones in life, whether joyous or devastating.

Read on as we explore more of the relationships between the GMA co-anchors outside the studios, from Michael Strahan and George Stephanopoulos’ constant ribbing, to Robin Roberts and David Muir’s close bond…

With years of friendship comes the ability to joke around with each other, and Michael and George have nailed that aspect of the show completely.

The two anchors aren’t afraid to rib at each other when the time is right, especially Michael, who frequents a playful jab at George from time to time, while the latter prefers a sly comment.

Michael and George will often poke fun at each other like brothers

Most notably, the former NFL star will frequently taunt George about his shyness when it comes to dancing, a carrot that the latter often dangles over his head. In fact, George did ultimately give Michael what he was promised (somewhat) on his birthday, check it out in the video below…

GMA’s George Stephanopoulos surprises Michael Strahan live on air

Robin Roberts, the heart of the show

Robin, in particular, is the one who exhibits the closest bonds with many of her fellow anchors in the ABC News family, having been there for over two decades at this point.

The former basketball star has hosted the ABC news show with George for nearly 15 years, after they started co-anchoring in 2009, and they’ve remained close friends on and off the show ever since.

Robin has a close bond with several of her GMA and ABC co-anchors, including David Muir

As fellow sports fanatics and prior athletes, Robin and Michael possess a playful relationship that comes through effortlessly on the air, and the former was also present when Michael was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in early 2023.

Her closest off-screen relationships are with David, Sam Champion, and Gio Benitez, thanks to the tight connection built between Robin and David thanks to their years of working on breaking news and primetime segments together.

Robin, Gio, and Sam, in particular, are very close

Sam, Gio, and Robin, in particular, are close as prominent LGBTQ+ anchors on national television, and thanks to their shared experiences, their spouses are also very tight. The three couples often vacation with each other and even went on an extended bachelorette trip together before Robin’s wedding last year.

David Muir and his 20/20 co-anchors

As one of the two co-hosts of the ABC special series 20/20, David has built a close working relationship with his two most recent co-anchors, Amy Robach and Deborah Roberts.

David and Deborah are very supportive of each other and have several friends in common (even across networks)

David and Amy frequently championed each other on social media and loved to joke around with each other on set, but once Amy left GMA in 2022, Deborah stepped in.

After being named permanent co-anchor last year, Deborah and David’s friendship grew exponentially, attending holiday parties together, and always celebrating each other on social media. In fact, Deborah’s husband Al Roker even quipped in a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight that their chemistry was a “little too good.”

“I’ve just seen the criticism of [Michael Strahan],” Glazer wrote Monday. “Let me tell you this, I don’t know if I have a friend who is more proud of his military roots than Michael, growing up on an army base constantly talking about what he learned from his dad Major Gene Strahan and how his time there shaped him. I heard it CONSTANTLY, still do!”

Strahan didn’t expect that negative backlash, according to the Daily Mail, which reported he will not be disciplined by Fox Sports.

“His peers have his back and understand that he wasn’t making the moment about himself. There isn’t going to be any type of punishment or fine going Michael’s way,” a source told the outlet.

“He may address it, but he is weighing his options because he never thought this would have ever been a thing. He knows the man he is, and he almost doesn’t want to address the controversy to give it more life.

“Michael wants Veterans Day to be for those men and women who deserve it and deserve the praise, to be in the conversation this way and to extend the talk on what people think he was doing, it would be a disservice to what the day means.”

Strahan called his father his “hero” and then went on to honor all veterans for their service.

“Thank you to all veterans and active service members who courageously risk their lives to protect us every day,” he wrote, including photos of his father in uniform. “Your selfless service is beyond measure. This is my hero, it is also my father, Maj. Gene W. Strahan, Sr.”

“Just as I honor my father, I keep all of you in my thoughts each and every day as we would not have the safety and freedoms we cherish without you. Thank You.”

Many believed Strahan’s demeanor during the national anthem was disrespectful to veterans, especially with the show being filmed on location Naval Base San Diego ahead of Veterans Day.

“It’s a New Experience for Me”: Kat Dennings and Tim Allen Cried While Making ‘Shifting Gears’

    Shifting Gears episode 5

Even though Shifting Gears is a massive hit that makes ABC viewers laugh out loud every week, the sitcom doesn’t shy away from some serious moments that resonate with its massive audience. The jumping point of the show is pretty easy to relate to: Riley (Kat Dennings) is forced to move back into her estranged father Matt’s (Tim Allen), house with her two kids after getting a divorce and going broke. In the very first episode, father and daughter confront each other about their past mistakes, and it gets emotional really fast. During an interview on the Not Gonna Lie podcast, Dennings revealed that both of them cried for real during filming.

On the podcast, Dennings talked about the experience of playing a mother for the first time in her career, even though she joked she’s still “12.” She revealed that trying something new was one of the reasons why she decided to jump into Shifting Gears. The bonus for saying yes was getting to act with Allen, and Dennings commented that he’s always “very present” and “really feeling these things.” She described their emotions in the first episode:

“We were both dreading it. We were like, ‘Oh God, we have to cry. What is this?’ It’s like, I looked at him and I started crying, he looked at me and he started crying. It was real. In the first episode, we both get emotional and it was real. It’s incredible to deal with him and the kids. I mean, everybody is really amazing. That just makes the funny parts even funnier and such a relief to do. It’s just been a very good, organic-feeling show to me. Which is new, it’s a new experience for me.”

Is ‘Shifting Gears’ Renewed For Season 2?

Whatever they are feeling, the audience seems to be feeling it too. Last month, viewership data from Nielsen revealed that Shifting Gears averaged more than 11 million viewers on Wednesdays, which is a lot more than tough competitors like CBS hit supernatural comedy Ghosts and Young Sheldon‘s sequel series Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. Despite its immense popularity, ABC has not announced a Season 2 renewal for the sitcom.

What’s curious about Shifting Gears is that ABC hasn’t been clear on the series’ episode count from Season 1, and from the looks of it, the network only ordered 10 so far. For a show this popular, an announcement of new episodes or new seasons would have been made at this point, but for now fans will have to wait and see what ABC has in store for the future of the hit series.

The next (and last?) episode of Shifting Gears is slated to air next Wednesday, March 19. You can stream the series on Hulu.

For years, Last Man Standing fans have debated the complexities of Mike and Vanessa Baxter’s relationship. The Two Sides of Mike and Vanessa’s Relationship

While Last Man Standing primarily portrayed Mike (played by Tim Allen) and Vanessa (Nancy Travis) as a strong, loving couple balancing work, family, and their evolving roles as parents and grandparents, some fans believe there were deeper, untold layers to their story.

The On-Screen Version: The series showed them as a lighthearted, witty couple with differing views on politics and parenting but ultimately a rock-solid foundation.
The Unseen Struggles: Some fans, including Travis and Allen, speculate that off-camera moments hinted at unspoken challenges—differences in ambition, personal sacrifices, and the emotional toll of raising independent daughters while managing their careers.

A Fan Perspective on Their Journey

Travis and Allen, both avid TV buffs, have long discussed how the show’s writing left subtle clues about a hidden version of their relationship—one that audiences could infer through character interactions, nostalgia, and occasional dramatic moments.

“Mike and Vanessa were always meant to be together,” Travis noted, “but there were hints that their journey wasn’t as seamless as it appeared.”

Allen added, “The humor and love were real, but if you really look at the writing, you can see moments where there was more under the surface.”

Last Man Standing followed a sitcom couple played by Tim Allen and Nancy Travis for nearly a decade — but where would Mike and Vanessa be now?

During an exclusive interview with Us Weekly, Travis, 63, reflected on her and Allen’s characters, saying, “When we would film a scene on Last Man Standing, one would be as written and then we would joke around about what would be the most extreme version of this scene. We would call that version ‘when the door slams shut.’”

Travis and Allen, 71, always thought there were two versions of Mike and Vanessa’s story.

“If this show was on network TV, it would probably be Vanessa and Mike in rocking chairs bickering,” she quipped. “But who knows what it would be when the door slams shut if they were on cable?”

Last Man Standing, which aired from 2011 to 2021, centered around Allen and Travis playing a fictional couple: Mike and Vanessa Baxter. After Last Man Standing came to an end, Allen returned to the comedy space on the series Shifting Gears, which premiered last month. Allen was able to use the ABC sitcom to bring Travis back as his scene partner in a Valentine’s Day-themed episode.

“It was great not to play the wife [this time]. It was great. It was really fun to be able to just come in and have a whole wealth of knowledge and rapport working with Tim. In terms of comedic rhythm, knowing how to set up a joke and how to tell a story together, it was great to be able to take that and apply it to Charlotte,” Travis told Us. “You wonder how Nancy Travis is going to come back into this Shifting Gears world and I think it’s a unique and clever way that they’ve engineered this.”

Travis enjoyed getting to share the screen with Allen again, adding, “Charlotte is a catalyst for him. It was fun to play the role of someone who has a shared experience with Tim’s character, which is true in real life. We shared the experience of making Last Man Standing and at the same time my Shifting Gears character is a stranger — just somebody that Matt meets who can inform his life.”

Despite playing a potential love interest for Allen, Travis admitted she’s not in a rush to be his sitcom wife for a second time.

“I do enjoy working with him but I think that it’s fun to explore new and different relationships between characters. It is very meta — maybe too meta,” she told Us. “I really like what they created, which is a soulmate friend. Maybe it’s like the ghost of his ex-wife — Vanessa — who comes in the spirit of somebody else. But I like the nuances of what they created with this different relationship.”

Travis went on to hint at a possible return to Shifting Gears. “Tim loves what he does and it’s almost like he’s the host of a party. But at the same time, he is very conscientious and really wants to tell whatever story it is in a very affecting way — comedically and emotionally and truthfully,” she explained. “So he’s a great scene partner in that way. Also everybody just has a really great time on set and it is like being at a party.”

The actress continued: “I showed up and there was such an inviting and warm feeling being there. We just had a good time working together and everybody enjoyed watching us. It was just a very kind, fun and warm group.”

Shifting Gears airs on ABC Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET before streaming the next day on Hulu.
