Mike and Vanessa Baxter are together again!

Nancy Travis is set to reunite with Last Man Standing hubby Tim Allen on Wednesday’s episode of Shifting Gears (ABC, 8/7c) — and TVLine has your exclusive first look.

As previously reported, Travis will guest-star as “spirited widow” Charlotte. In the episode, “a Valentine’s Day visit to his late wife’s grave sparks an unexpected connection for Matt (Allen) in an unlikely place,” and the following clip reveals the moment where Charlotte walks into his life.

The Home Improvement star’s latest multi-cam casts him as “the stubborn, widowed owner of a classic car restoration shop,” per the official logline. “When estranged daughter Riley (played by 2 Broke Girls‘ Kat Dennings) and her kids move into his house, the real restoration begins.”

The Jan. 8 premiere revealed that it had been 15 years since Riley walked out of her parents’ house, bailed on college, and ran off with a deadbeat musician. Before now, she’d only ever been back for a few very awkward Christmases — and, more recently, her mother Diane’s funeral, after the love of Matt’s life died of a sudden heart attack.

As previously reported, Jenna Elfman (Dharma & Greg) has been cast as a potential love interest for Matt. She’ll recur as Eve Drake, “a spirited choreographer and owner of the dance studio across from Parker Customs.” Her first episode airs Wednesday, Feb. 26.

Meanwhile, fellow Last Man vet Jay Leno will guest-star as himself in Shifting Gears’ penultimate Season 1 episode (airing Wednesday, March 12).

Last Man Standing started its nine-season run in 2011. Its first six seasons aired on ABC; a year after its cancellation, it was revived for another three seasons on Fox. Following its series finale in 2021, Travis was cast in the short-lived Hallmark Channel western Ride, which aired its only season in 2023.

After recently bringing Nancy Travis onto Shifting Gears, Tim Allen welcomed another Last Man Standing co-star in the latest episode. Jay Leno showed up playing himself, and while I expected him to refer to the previous series like Travis did, the ABC comedy hit us with a curveball by referencing another one of Allen’s earlier projects: Home Improvement.

In what was his second network television sitcom appearance since his voice cameo in Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, Jay Leno played himself as a client of Allen’s character, Matt Parker. Their brief conversation made it sound like the two were pretty friendly, at least enough for Leno to rib him about his resemblance to a television character.

Jay Leno Made A Vague Reference To Home Improvement

Jay Leno showed up toward the end of the episode, arriving at the auto shop to pick up one of his cars that he’d “forgotten about.” He then briefly talked to Matt, and recalled a voicemail he sent him the night prior where he wasn’t making much sense. The voicemail didn’t make sense because Matt had taken a marijuana edible, but rather than admit that, he instead said he was doing a comedy bit. Leno bought the excuse, and it jogged his memory of something else he’d seen the night before:

I was watching this show last night, must’ve been from the ’90s. A guy, looks like a younger version of you, has all your mannerisms. And the difference between you and him? He was really funny. Oh that guy, he was unbelievable.

While the series wasn’t directly mentioned, Shifting Gears made a pretty clear reference to Home Improvement. It’s a fitting nod considering the classic series aired on ABC, for those old enough to remember before it was available with a Disney+ subscription or on other platforms. As someone who was totally expecting another reference to Last Man Standing, it was fun to have my expectations subverted.

Will Home Improvement Stars Make Their Way To Shifting Gears?

Now that Home Improvement has been mentioned, I have to know when we’ll start seeing the former stars of the sitcom join Tim Allen and Kat Dennings. After hearing the origins of the “Goth Mark” storyline, I would love to see Taran Noah Smith show up and play a character on Shifting Gears, if only to make a joke about that.

And am I the only one who would love to see Richard Karn play a character that opens up a competing auto shop on the other side of town? After watching Karn play Tim Allen’s best friend Al on Home Improvement, seeing the two as bitter enemies in the new series would be hilarious. Let’s get these two in a show again because that History Channel series wasn’t enough.

We’ll see what actors from Tim Allen’s past will show up on future episodes of Shifting Gears, which air on ABC on Wednesdays at 8:00 p.m. ET. This sitcom is one of the top shows so far on the 2025 TV schedule, so be sure to catch up if you haven’t already.

Ryan Seacrest to Make Film Producing Debut with Reese Witherspoon (Exclusive)

The busiest man in Hollywood just got a little busier.

Ryan Seacrest is producing his first film, a romantic comedy with co-producer Reese Witherspoon. The still untitled project, which will be produced by Ryan Seacrest Productions and Witherspoon’s Type A Films in association with Universal, will be written by Grey’s Anatomy scribe Krista Vernoff.

Seacrest is already a major producer for Universal parent’s television division, for which he produces E!’s Kardashian franchise and serves as host and managing editor of E! News. 

The American Idol host and radio star noted his desire to venture into the film world as well as the scripted TV world when profiled by The Hollywood Reporter in April. The latter became a reality when he sold a small-screen adaptation of The Nanny Diaries with Harvey Weinstein into development at ABC in August.

For her part, Witherspoon is garnering buzz for her upcoming role in 20th Century Fox’s This Means War, where she juggles relationships with two CIA agents – played by Chris Pine and Tom Hardy – who pull out all the stops to battle for her affection. The movie is scheduled to hit theaters on Feb. 17.

News of their romantic comedy project comes mere days after Vernoff had sold a legal drama with a supernatural twist to CBS. The project pairs Vernoff, whose other small screen credits include Charmed and Private Practice, with producers Sarah Timberman and Carl Beverly.

The 68-year-old “Wheel of Fortune” co-host posted an Instagram video on Monday, in which she can be seen visiting her daughter, tattoo artist Giovanna “Gigi” Santo Pietro, 28, to get her very first tattoo.

“She’s not making me do this. It’s my choice,” White can be heard saying in the video before heading into Lincoln Tattoo Company in Venice, California, with her daughter.

In the behind-the-scenes video, White told Gigi, who she shares with her ex-husband George Santo Pietro, that she decided to get a tattoo of a heart on her wrist so that she “can look at it every day” and remember her daughter, since she would have been the one to do the tattoo.

While picking the shape and color of the heart, White appeared nervous, telling her daughter, “I’m shaking,” before ultimately deciding on a shade of pink for the outline, which she described as having “a little salmon in it too.”

Although White initially said, “I don’t if I can watch. I might pass out,” when her daughter got started on the tattoo, she mouthed “I don’t feel anything” to the camera, and told her daughter she felt “nothing” when asked what she would compare the pain to. “I’ve been wanting to do this for a really long time. I really have. I’m so happy,” she added.

Her “Wheel of Fortune” co-host, Ryan Seacrest, took to the comments section to show his support, writing “Love it. Now this is making me want one…”

Along with Gigi, White shares her son, Nikko, 30, with her ex-husband. Her son recently got a lot of attention after White posted a video of the two of them cooking dinner together on her Instagram in late 2024.

“I recently posted a video of me and my son, Nikko, cooking, and it got a lot of response,” she said on an episode of “Wheel of Fortune” in January. “I don’t get it.”

Seacrest then had to step in and explain “the kids are calling Nikko a thirst trap,” adding the white shirt he was wearing in the video was a little snug, joking “he went to the Baby Gap to buy that shirt.” He assured White that this was a good thing, telling her people “found him strikingly good-looking.”

Some of the comments under White’s post included “Vanna where have you been hiding Nikko ? He’s GORGEOUS,” and “Your son is hot!!!”

Nikko addressed the attention himself in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, telling the outlet the attention he received was “flattering.”

“People see me as this heartthrob, and they’re thirsty for me and all this stuff,” he explained. “I love it all, but at the same time, it’s really good to remember the meaningful things in life and just kind of dial it back, doing a lot of charity work, working hard every day.”
