‘Wheel of Fortune’: Pat Sajak Announces He’s ‘Looking at Other Projects’ After Retirement

Pat Sajak on Wheel of Fortune

Wheel of FortuneDoes Pat Sajak have another on-air role in the works in light of his retirement from Wheel of Fortune? The game show legend joked about as much in an unexpected social media post on Saturday (November 9), sharing what he had in mind for his big comeback.

Sajak, who hosted WoF for 43 years, officially retired in the spring, making way for Ryan Seacrest, who now hosts the program alongside Vanna White. His ratings-smash farewell episode aired on June 7, 2024. With the newfound free time sinking in, Sajak rattled off a hilarious list of “other projects” he was considering now that he’s “stopped doing the show.”

“Since I’ve stopped doing the show, I’ve been looking at other projects,” the since-deleted X post read. “Top prospects are a detective drama, ‘Barnaby Jones Jr.,’ and a cooking competition, ‘The Grated Cheese Challenge.’ Was thinking about a celebrity podcast until I found out there were already a few of those.”

Sajak’s post seemed just a joke, as the TV shows he listed are fictional (and outlandish). However, it’s fun to imagine him hosting a cooking show, helming a detective series or venturing into the admittedly crowded podcast space if he wished.

Meanwhile, Sajak may be done hosting syndicated Wheel, but he is not retiring from show business altogether. In June, Variety reported that Sajak inked a deal to return to Hawaii Theater in Honolulu, Hawaii, next summer to star in a play with his longtime collaborator there, Joe Moore. The duo will co-star in a new version of the 1962 stage play Prescription: Murder, which will run from July 31, 2025 to August 10, 2025.

Sajak will star in the play as Roy Flemming, a psychiatrist who creates an alibi to murder his wife; Moore will portray Lt. Columbo, the detective who plays a game of cat-and-mouse with Flemming. (The plot for Prescription: Murder previously hit the small screen in Columbo‘s pilot.)

Plus, WoF fans missing Sajak are also getting a dose of Holiday cheer in the near future. A special episode of Celebrity Wheel of Fortune titled “Special Holiday Episode” airs on Monday, December 2 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC in primetime.

The contestants for the Holiday special are Chance the Rapper (who is playing for SocialWorks), legendary singer Dionne Warwick (playing for North Jersey Community Research Initiative), and Lil Jon (playing for Open Paths Counseling Center). Sajak and the iconic White will serve as co-hosts.

The episode will be a one-off, with the rest of Sajak’s last Celebrity Wheel of Fortune season airing in 2025. The spinoff’s upcoming season marks Sajak’s last-ever time hosting. Seacrest has, of course, replaced Sajak as the host of the syndicated game show for Season 42. He is returning for just the spin-off to fulfill his contract in one final spin. Celebrity guests will compete for $1 million (for a charity of their choosing).

‘Wheel Of Fortune’ Fans Annoyed By Ryan Seacrest’s On Air Quirk

    Wheel Of Fortune: Ryan Seacrest

Wheel Of Fortune fans have had a bone to pick with Ryan Seacrest since before he even officially started hosting the fan-favorite game show. Recently, fans on social media called out yet another annoying habit from the host. So, what did viewers have to say this time?

Wheel Of Fortune: Fans Have Wanted Ryan Seacrest Out From The Beginning

No one has had a bigger target on their back in the popular game show space than Ryan Seacrest. While changing hosts with popular game shows always comes with a rocky transition, arguably no one has been getting more heat than Ryan Seacrest since he took over the reins at Wheel Of Fortune.

Naturally, fans love Pat Sajak, and they would have loved nothing more than to see him continue hosting. However, when it comes to shows like this, the changing of the guard is inevitable. Fans have not been quiet about their dislike of Pat’s successor.

Viewers Call Out Seacrest For Annoying Habit

Recently, fans took to social media to blast Ryan Seacrest for another one of his quirks that they don’t particularly like. Because Ryan has been under such scrutiny since taking over as the Wheel Of Fortune host, watchers are noticing every little thing he does or doesn’t do.

This time around, someone called the new host out for never saying the prize amounts out loud. The user on social media said:

“Does Ryan know how to say numbers? He just flips the gold envelope open, looks down at it, and then at the contestant. SO you can see that the puzzle was worth $40,000, BUT HE NEVER says the dollar amount of the prize out loud. He doesn’t actually read it off the card and say the number that is written. He just shows the audience and cameras the card. I’m starting to wonder if maybe he just can’t read numbers?”

Some Wheel Of Fortune Fans Defend Ryan Seacrest

It turns out, some Wheel Of Fortune fans actually came to Ryan Seacrest’s defense. While many still want Pat Sajak as the host, others also agree that this is no reason to continue to trash Ryan at every turn.

Seacrest is doing the best he can, considering the type of lion’s den he walked into as soon as he agreed to take the gig, and many do appreciate his effort.

Another commenter said: “If you don’t like Ryan fine … but at least back your criticism up with substance. Saying he can’t read numbers is the most ludicrous thing I have ever heard.”

‘Wheel of Fortune’ Contestant Gives Honest Review Of Ryan Seacrest Off-Camera

Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek’s network of contributors

There are a number of reasons why Ryan Seacrest is qualified to be the host of Wheel of Fortune, but one of his best ones has nothing to do with how he acts in front of a camera.

Even Ryan Seacrest Had A Classy Response After A Wheel Of Fortune Contestant Had An All Time Impressively Bad Guess

Lindsay Demsky, a contestant on the Monday, November 18 episode of the game show, took to Reddit the next day to share some details about her experience. For the first time since Seacrest, 49, took over as host of Wheel, viewers got an insider’s perspective about what he is like between segments when the cameras are off.

In her post the contestant said that the host was “SO friendly during the commercial breaks.” She also added that Seacrest “had individual conversations with each of [the contestants],” and that he “would talk to the audience” as well. The mother of three from Michigan later wrote that Seacrest “was just the absolute best,” remembering a moment where she stopped in the middle of conversation with him and said “I can’t believe I’m literally talking to you right now,” with Seacrest being very nice about it.

Demsky also recalled another standout moment in her post and wrote, “When I was talking to [Seacrest] and a producer interrupted to say something to him. I figured that was the end of the conversation, and then he turned to me and said ‘sorry, go on!’ It was so small but so NICE and polite.”

She later added that she believed that the gesture meant that “He genuinely cared about the conversations he was having!” She also revealed that she felt that Seacrest “was visibly touched,” when he was congratulated for doing an “amazing job as host.”

RYAN Seacrest has been notoriously working non-stop for years, bouncing between his gigs on American Idol, Live, On Air With Ryan Seacrest, and more.

On Sunday night’s live American Idol finale, the busy host’s eye was drooping and twitching, causing fans to become concerned about his health.

Fans feared for Ryan, as this has happened in the past to the 47-year-old star.

During last night’s finale, Ryan also appeared to say some words inscrutably and wave his hands around at points as he spoke rapidly between acts that viewers pointed out on Twitter.

They feared he might have had a stroke or that something was severely wrong with him.

“Am I the only one noticing Ryan Seacrest’s eye again? What’s happening?” asked one fan.

“The way we’re all worried about Ryan’s eye instead of the finale is telling,” noticed a second fan.

Fans also noticed that he messed up the name of Melissa Etheridge’s album, One Way Out, when he said On The Way Out.

Other Twitter users noticed he was babbling and talking a lot.

This happened to him before in 2020 when he slurred his speech and appeared unable to focus properly.

It could be from exhaustion because the Idol host has multiple jobs and hosting duties.

Here’s a look inside his busy schedule- from American Idol to Live With Kelly and Ryan, to hosting a radio show, and more.

Although the judges have seen major changes on Idol, Ryan is the one thing that’s been a constant.

Since season one, he has been hosting the singing competition.

However, he had help in the first season when he was a co-host with Brian Dunkleman.

After taking on solo hosting duties for the rest of the series, Ryan also took on American Juniors, American Idol for young children.

That show only lasted one season, so he didn’t have to worry about tackling that as well.

He returned for the ABC reboot and continues to appear for every episode, even though he has other duties he is tackling as well.

In 2004, Ryan took on a new venture when he became the new host of the radio program American Top 40.

One month later, he became the host of KIIS-FM’s morning show.

He continues to be the host of both shows, which are Los Angeles radio stations.

Ryan told Jimmy Kimmel in 2018 that immediately after shooting Live, he has to head to another office in the same building to host the host, immediately after.

He hosts that show every day for four hours a day.

With his busy schedule, Ryan joked that he has to schedule bathroom breaks.

“I try to go to the bathroom every once in a while, but that only happens on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays,” he joked.

The host also runs On Air With Ryan Seacrest, which was launched the same time as Top 40.

The radio shows used to be hosted in Los Angeles, but in 2017 they built a station in New York City, making it a bit easier for Ryan’s daily life.

Also on Saturdays, Ryan is an on-air personality for Kristal FM, hosting WSTR and KYSR stations.

As of now, his contract with iHeartMedia lasts through 2025 and is expected to be renewed.

While juggling Idol, Ryan became a staple on ABC.

In 2005, he became the executive producer and co-host of Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.

He started to co-host with the actor, due to his limited mobility from his stroke.

In 2009, the network renamed the show Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest.

The telecast aired every year on ABC since 1972 and was hosted by Dick Clark until his death in 2012.

In 2013, Ryan hosted the program with Jenny McCarthy and became the permanent host.

Although this event only happens once a year, there is a lot of preparation that goes into the role.

Last December, the radio host signed a multi-year contract to continue hosting the program.

For years, Live With Kelly and Regis was a staple on TV, but once Regis Philbin passed away the network needed another co-host that had enough experience.

    Cue, Ryan Seacrest.

On May 2017, the show announced that Ryan would be the new co-host and executive producer after a year-long search.

He succeeded Michael Strahan and started his hosting duties the day of the announcement.

Although Ryan was a pro at hosting by now, the two main programs he was involved with caused him to travel a lot.

Idol is filmed in California while Live is in New York.

During Idol season, Ryan is constantly traveling from coast to coast to host both shows- Live in the morning and Idol at night.

    Luckily, Idol isn’t a year-round gig.

Aside from his everyday gigs, Ryan has dipped his toes in basically every program.

He used to be a red carpet correspondent for E! until 2021, which he was a part of for 14 years.

Ryan didn’t give a reason, except that he was focusing on other projects.

Besides E!, he was a correspondent for the 2012 and 2016 Olympic Games.

The Idol host has had some movie roles as well including Shrek Forever After, New Year’s Eve, and Knocked Up.

He has also been the host to many Jingle Balls and iHeartRadio concerts.

Ryan also became the host of Disney Family Sing-Alongs in 2020 during the pandemic.

He has hosted and starred in many other programs since his career began.

    EXECUTIVE PRODUCER

Along with hosting TV and radio programs, Ryan executive produces many of them and other shows.

In 2006, he founded Ryan Seacrest Productions, which he named his long-time agent CEO in 2008.

Although he left hosting duties with E!, Ryan is still the EP for the red carpet coverage and is the managing editor of E! News.

He also produced Keeping Up With The Kardashians and the show’s multiple spin-offs.

In 2017, RSP signed a multi-year deal between them and ABC Studios to produce scripted projects.

    ENTREPRENEUR RYAN

Most people know Ryan from his hosting duties, but not many people know of his work with other companies.

He is an investor and partner at Pathwater, a brand of purified water offered in a refillable aluminum bottle

In 2017, Ryan partnered with Harold Lancer to produce the men’s skincare line Polished.

He also had his hand in other fashion adventures, making suits for many retailers.

Perhaps one of the biggest companies he is involved with is the Ryan Seacrest Foundation, which he launched in 2010.

According to the website, The Ryan Seacrest Foundation is a “non-profit 501 organization dedicated to inspiring today’s youth through entertainment and education focused initiatives.”

Between flying from New York City to Los Angeles and back basically every day, Ryan barely has time for a personal life.

Us Weekly exclusively confirmed his relationship with Aubrey Paige in June 2021.

He started dating the 24-year-old one year after his split from longtime girlfriend, Shayna Taylor.

The American Idol host had sparked relationship rumors in May 2021 when he arrived at The Hamptons in Austin, TX, via helicopter with Aubrey.

The model is a Texas native.

The couple has kept their relationship pretty private, but many of his friends including Kelly Ripa are fond of her.

Despite their 23-year age difference, they seem to be going strong.

He even told The Wall Street Journal that he is thinking about becoming a dad, a desire which began in 2021.

“I start thinking about blocking off certain times in my month or year or week to focus on my personal life. I do want to have kids. But I haven’t even gone down that path, which is nuts at my age,” he told the outlet.

“I think in the last year, it’s become clear to me that yes, I do want to do that. I want to be available and present.”

They’ve been seen out together many times while going to the gym or running errands.

The couple made a rare appearance together in April 2022 at the LACMA 2022 Collectors Committee Gala in Hollywood.

Ryan has acknowledged that he needs to slow down.

In December 2021, he spoke with WSJ Magazine about taking some time off after his first health scare.

“It’s personal, but I definitely knew that I needed to slow down….I just had burnt myself out. I was absolutely beat and fatigued and just wasn’t letting myself accept that. Now I do,” he explained.

“To say no to things is difficult. You want to say yes. When I say no to something, I feel guilt in terms of an obligation.”

Splitting his time between New York City and LA, constantly flying back and forth, and hosting multiple programs at once can take a toll on anybody.

Ryan doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon, despite fans being concerned for his health.

[SO SAD] Wheel of Fortune are fearing the worst for Vanna White’s future on the show as a nasty behind-the-scenes internal dispute

[SO SAD] The tense situation between Vanna White and Wheel of Fortune has left fans concerned about her future

    Vanna White’s fight

Weeks after Pat Sajak announced his retirement from Wheel of Fortune, Vanna White has secured a lawyer amid reports of concern and worry over her future with the show.

Questions surrounding her future on the show started swirling after Pat announced his retirement on Twitter in June, which was followed by the almost immediate appointment of Ryan Seacrest to be his replacement. Ryan addressed his new gig on Instagram in this post, saying he “can’t wait to work alongside the great Vanna White.” But depending on how negotiations go, he may not get to work with Vanna at all.

According to reports, her concerns stem from not being given the chance to be next in line for Pat’s job, not having more say on his replacement, and perhaps most importantly, not receiving a raise in 18 years.

Wheel of Fortune's' Vanna White hires lawyer in effort to get raise as Ryan Seacrest named new host: report | Fox Business

TMZ initially reported that Vanna was holding out until she was granted a salary that was at least half of Pat’s $15 million annual earnings. For the last 18 years, though, it’s remained at $3 million, with no raises whatsoever, just bonuses throughout the years. And she knows she’s worth more.

“Everybody relates ‘Wheel of Fortune’ to Pat and Vanna. We’re like Ken and Barbie, you know,” she told PEOPLE back in 2022. “We’ve been in everybody’s homes for 40 years, so it would be weird having somebody else turn my letters.”

As TMZ points out, the show can’t afford to lose Pat and Vanna simultaneously. But many would argue that they can’t afford to lose Vanna at all. Given the popularity of the show among older viewers, and her 41 year presence, she is a huge symbol of continuity and familiarity for the show’s greying audience.

Four decades is a long time to do anything. But it’s an especially long time to spend weekday evenings in households all across North America with families in their living rooms as they wind down from the day. She has done that with grace, elegance, and a masterful ability to toe the line of celebrating the show’s winners and softening the blow of a loss for the show’s other players.

But even among younger viewers who have grown up in an era where women’s workplace struggles are being discussed more openly, the threat of making the wrong move and upsetting a generation we know is incredibly outspoken and ready to drag anyone or anything in a heartbeat, and equipped with tools like social media, it could be a crucial mistake for Sony Pictures Television. And the company’s hesitance to give her what she’s asking for is already proving to be a hot topic, with some labelling Ryan’s appointment as a ‘lazy choice’ and others saying it should’ve gone to Vanna, starting the hashtag #justiceforvanna.

Vanna White renews 'Wheel of Fortune' contract with raise | Fortune

The thoughts behind that hashtag are a sentiment many people echoed, especially considering all that Ryan has on his plate already. Back in 2017, Ryan first discussed the idea of slowing down while in conversation with The Hollywood Reporter.

“I’ve figured out what I’m better at and what I’m not so good at, and I’m doing the things that I’m better at. The things that I’m not so good at would make me tired and would make me want to slow down,” he said.

Then, this April, he left his post as the cohost of Live With Kelly & Ryan, citing exhaustion as one of the reasons for his departure.

“I thought you left Kelly and Ryan for a break? So you didn’t have to work so hard,” one Instagram user commented on his new gig announcement post.

Just four years after that initial interview, he sat down with the Wall Street Journal in 2021 to further underscore the importance of slowing down, particularly after experiencing an undisclosed health scare on live television that many believed was a stroke.

“I definitely knew that I needed to slow down…I just had burnt myself out. I was absolutely beat and fatigued and just wasn’t letting myself accept that. Now I do,” he told the outlet.

But now – two more years later, he’s signed on to this new gig, after just extending his iHeartRadio contract in 2021. The radio show he’s hosted for nearly 20 years is slated to keep going until at least 2025. So all this discussion of burnout, suffering some sort of medical episode on-screen, stepping away from one gig and starting up another, all while there was a readily available, highly sought after, legendary icon named Vanna White ready and willing to do the job herself? Why not her?

Vanna White opens up about her future on 'Wheel of Fortune' - ABC7 New York

To be fair, Wheel of Fortune only tapes four days a month. Compared to his hectic schedule of having to shoot daily, this is fairly easy money for him to make. And while it’s great that he’s choosing gigs that align more with his modified approach to work, it still begs the question of what Sony’s priorities are in a case like this. Honouring longevity, either through making Vanna the host, or at least giving her what she’s asking for, or, putting the show’s legacy at risk just to get another male host in the door?

Considering the succession drama that ensued over on Jeopardy!, in which the quest to find a replacement for Alex Trebek, which Lainey covered here, catapulted the quiet and longstanding evening game show to centre stage for all the wrong reasons, you’d think Sony would want to keep the OG happy, and around. But instead, there are reports that she is ‘replaceable’. Everyone that watches the show knows that she isn’t.

Vanna’s made it clear that she’s not on the path to retirement and is definitely interested in remaining with the show – telling PEOPLE last December that she couldn’t even imagine life past her current role, and calling the idea of the show ending ‘depressing’.

So needless to say, people who were under the impression she’d be a shoo-in as Pat’s replacement have a lot of questions. And despite Ryan’s overall likeability and reputation for being disciplined and more than qualified for the role, it seems like a massive oversight – and perhaps an intentional one at that.

This would’ve been the perfect opportunity for this legacy game show to carve out a new path for its future and to secure 40 more years of longevity. And to be clear, there are more ways of doing that than just appointing Vanna as the host. But it’s a great place to start. And so is paying the lady what we all know she’s worth.

Kelly Ripa makes STUN as he talks about Ryan Seacres leaving ‘LIVE’ to become Wheel of Fortune’s host

[SURPRISE] Kelly Ripa’s Biggest Worry Over Ryan Seacrest Hosting Wheel Of Fortune Is Fully Justified

Kelly Ripa’s Biggest Worry Over Ryan Seacrest Hosting Wheel Of Fortune Is Fully Justified After Pat Sajak’s Latest Fan-Angering Flub

Wheel of Fortune is going to look quite different after the currently airing season wraps up, with Pat Sajak retiring and stepping down from his longtime frontman role. Ryan Seacrest was already announced as his replacement, making it his first daily hosting gig since he exited the then-named Live with Kelly and Ryan. He appears to be pretty confident about eventually taking over, but his former co-star Kelly Ripa voiced an amusing (but highly relevant) concern she has about Seacrest in that particular capacity. And it turns out any worries she has are probably justifiable, with Pat Sajak getting called out by viewers for allowing a contestant’s misspoken guess to count as a correct answer.

Ryan Seacrest to leave 'Live with Kelly and Ryan' in spring

Kelly Ripa appeared as a guest on the podcast Life Is Short, hosted by the current star of Disney+’s Goosebumps, Justin Long, where she talked about chatting with Wheel’s Vanna White, who’s spent quite a few months in 2023 working out contract negotiations (even if she downplayed how hectic it was). The soap opera star-turned-celeb then brought up her biggest concern over Seacrest taking on the highly visible hosting job: his spelling skills, or possible lack thereof. Here’s how Ripa put it:

We talk about the fact that Ryan is going to be joining her, and Ryan Seacrest is the only person I know besides myself — and I say ‘besides myself,’ but he may actually be worse than me — he is a terrible speller. And he doesn’t read things in a grid properly often. [Laughs.] And I actually am concerned. This is the first time I’ve ever been concerned for Ryan Seacrest where I go, ‘Is he gonna be able to understand this foundationally?’

Both Ripa and Justin Long basically shared the notion that Ryan Seacrest is the kind of endlessly casual and collected celeb that doesn’t seem like he’d ever present a case for his TV bosses to worry, least of all when it’s a hosting position. But it’s rather hilarious that one of his biggest hypothetical personal issues involves the most core element of his upcoming job. If he was terrible with numbers and math? Wheel of Fortune would be a great option. But for someone whose spelling skills have much to be desired? It seems like a good time for a reboot of Classic Concentration, amirite?

Sorry To All The Ryan Seacrest Naysayers, But It Looks Like His Wheel Of Fortune Takeover From Pat Sajak Is Going Well

As Ripa bemusingly put it: “Spelling counts on that show.” And if Ryan Seacrest isn’t 100% on top of his game in that department, he may find himself the butt of far more social media videos and comments after joining Wheel. To that end, Pat Sajak once again found himself the target of viewer ire after botching a contestant’s answer.

The Wheel Of Fortune Mistake That Fans Got Angry Over

One Wheel of Fortune episode this week featured a round with a Crossword Puzzle theme, where each of the words in the puzzle had to follow “Butter” in a sensible fashion. Inexplicably enough, just as contestant Nadine Cedro was set to try and solve the puzzle, Pat Sajak reminded her of the slightly more strict verbiage in this instance: “Say everything. Don’t add anything.” And yet, when Cedro gave her answer, she did indeed slip up by adding an extra letter to one of the four words she answered with, erroneously guessing “nuts” instead of the proper “nut.”

But rather than recalling his own advice uttered just seconds before, Pat Sajak & Co. allowed Cedro to earn the $1,800 that she’d banked before guessing. Nothing against the contestant for making the mistake — lord knows there have been legitimately terrible answers already this season — but it seems kind of ridiculous for a show with both a host and a judges table to allow what was clearly a flubbed answer to be rewarded. Quite a few Wheel of Fortune viewers took to social media to express their dismay and befuddlement, with the post below summing things up quite perfectly.

Will Ryan Seacrest need closed captioning to have a better shot at sorting through all the grid-based spelling involved with Wheel of Fortune? Will he need to wear an earpiece so that Vanna White can clandestinely guide him along through the episodes? Will WoF drop its words-and-letters format and replace them with puzzles based entirely on grunts? None of those seem likely. Or smart.

Find out if Kelly Ripa’s worries were justified or all for naught when Ryan Seacrest takes over for Pat Sajak next season. Until then, be sure to watch Wheel weeknights in syndication, and head to our 2023 TV premiere schedule to see all the exciting new shows on the way soon.

Some observant Wheel of Fortune viewers have a question about Ryan Seacrest’s performance as the host.

Ryan has only been hosting Wheel of Fortune for two months but seems to have grown on his critics.

There was a bit of apprehension about Ryan filling Pat Sajak’s shoes, but the American Idol host proved that he’s got what it takes – or does he?

Ryan Seacrest has been under the watchful eyes of Wheel of Fortune fans, who have been dissecting his every move.

First, Ryan was accused of not spelling well. Now critics claim he can’t read.

On Reddit, a curious Wheel watcher created a thread discussing Ryan’s technique during the Bonus Round. They called the post “Does Ryan know how to say numbers?”

Wheel of Fortune viewer wonders why Ryan Seacrest never says prize amounts out loud

A Redditor pointed out that they’ve never seen Ryan verbally announce the prize amount during the final Bonus Round.

They explained, “He just flips the gold envelope open, looks down at it, and then at the contestant.”

“SO you can see that the puzzle was worth $40,000, BUT HE NEVER says the dollar amount of the prize out loud. He doesn’t actually read it off the card and say the number that is written. He just shows the audience and cameras the card,” the Reddit user added.

Their explanation continued, pointing out that Ryan never states the prize number, only flipping open the envelope to reveal the amount.

“I’m starting to wonder if maybe he just can’t read numbers?” they added.

Ryan Seacrest’s supporters come to his defense

Many Wheel watchers expressed the contrary, such as u/nowords left, who commented that Ryan verbalizes every number on the wheel.

Another Redditor added that Ryan can read numbers and is not “numerically illiterate.”

“If you don’t like Ryan fine … but at least back your criticism up with substance. Saying he can’t read numbers is the most ludicrous thing I have ever heard,” they added.

“He doesn’t have to say them. The contestant and audience reactions speak for themselves,” added another Ryan supporter.

A couple of Wheel of Fortune viewers recalled that Pat Sajak never vocalized the prize amount during his tenure as host.

Wheel watchers are still adjusting to Pat Sajak’s absence

It seems that Ryan’s critics are still poking around to find fault with the TV icon.

Pat’s departure shocked longtime Wheel watchers, but at 78 years old, it was time for him to retire.

Pat was a Wheel of Fortune host for more than four decades and earned himself a reputation as one of the most iconic television hosts in history.

Despite hanging up his hat after Season 41, Wheel of Fortune fans can take solace in knowing Pat hasn’t completely left the franchise.

Pat stuck around to host Season 5 of Celebrity Wheel of Fortune and is still a consultant for the popular weeknight game show.

Was a Wheel of Fortune bonus puzzle too difficult? Ryan Seacrest seemed to think so. In a surprising moment on the Monday, November 18 episode, the relatively new host broke from his typically impartial stance to outwardly criticize a puzzle that cost a contestant $40,000.

The bonus round involved Joey Sweet, program director for teens and longtime Vanna White fan from Oceanside, California. He boasted the high score of $16,150 in cash, a prize trip to Mexico, and the helpful Wildcard wedge, which entailed an additional letter. Selecting “Phrase” as his category, he joined Seacrest center stage.

When the three-word puzzle was displayed, Sweet chose “CDMA” and an “F” as his Wildcard letter. The puzzle read as “CAR _ED’ ‘_ _’ ‘_AND’, “so it was nearly filled out except for the two-letter middle word. The 10-second timer began, and Sweet began guessing. “Cleared In Hand?” he uttered, looking visibly at a loss. Otherwise, he was unable to make a full guess. The timer ran out, and the puzzle was unveiled as “Carved By Hand.”

White threw up her hands in disappointment, and the audience moaned. Out-of-frame, Seacrest shared his opinion on the puzzle, “You were on the right track. This is a tricky one.”

The broadcast cut back to Seacrest and Sweet, and while the host opened the gold prize card containing the $40,000, he once more questioned the quality of the puzzle. “Tough one,” he stated. “Even with the headstart,” referring to the Wildcard wedge. Sweet didn’t share his feelings on the miss and was a good sport. “It’s OK!” he said.

The game show shared the clip on YouTube, where fans shared whether or not they agreed with Seacrest after he shared his thoughts in a first as host. Many sided with him and expressed that the inclusion of “By” was particularly unforgiving.

“I wouldn’t have gotten that unless I picked the right letters. Tricky one indeed,” one fan wrote.

“I couldn’t get it. This was tough,” wrote another also echoing what the host said.

“‘Carved by hand’ that’s a really tough one guys come on,” wrote a third.

“’By’ is tough…” wrote a fourth.

“‘By’ is Tough Word for the Bonus Round, as Ryan said and I agree with him,” wrote a fifth. “That was a tricky puzzle & Joey missed out on $40k that is minor miss, but $16k plus is a good day for him and he’s a great sportsmanship.”

Other fans disagreed with Seacrest, one more writing, “Tough one? That was really close.”

Meanwhile, fans are warming up to Seacrest as WoF’s new frontman after seeing Pat Sajak nightly for four decades. His debut month was the strongest ratings month for WoF in the past three years, and viewers were already treated to a viral moment (and a round of sausage). But apparently, some things never change.

While there have been other questionable bonus puzzles under Seacrest (“Cashew Milk?”), during Sajak’s tenure, especially towards the end, WoF was rife with bonus puzzles that fans disliked. There was the similarly dubious “Foamy milk” during Season 40, and infamously, the puzzle “Taking a Quick Jog.”

In that case, the contestant who missed it went viral by challenging Sajak since the puzzle was categorized as “Fun and Games.” “Well, see, I don’t consider jogging fun and games,” he told the former host to his face.

The REAL reason Vanna White and John Donaldson haven’t tied the knot after dating for so long: Report

[$H0CKING] The reason they haven’t tied the knot after dating for so long leaves fans stunned. Here’s all you need to know

All about Vanna White’s private boyfriend and the reason they aren’t married yet

Wheel of Fortune’s iconic co-host Vanna White has kept her relationship out of the spotlight for over a decade.

After sparking marriage rumors with her latest Instagram post, Vanna White’s fans want to know more about the relationship she’s been keeping lowkey.

Since Ryan Seacrest stepped into Pat Sajak’s shoes on Wheel of Fortune, the two have been “battling” for White’s attention. However, it seems Seacrest might be winning her over after White confessed to developing a “crush” on the new host when the new season started.

Why Vanna White Isn't in a Rush to Marry Her Boyfriend of 12 Years

Regardless of either of their efforts, White’s heart was already stolen a long time ago.

During an interview with People, the host admitted that she’s been in a relationship with her boyfriend John Donaldson for over a decade.

The California native has worked in the construction industry from an early age. After years of working as a laborer, Donaldson eventually went onto getting his contractor’s license and running his own company, JDC Construction + Development Group.

On top of working with major stars like Richard Dreyfuss and Dan Akroyd, he also prides himself on the projects he’s worked on for the state like the 1994 Northridge earthquake that happened in the San Fernando Valley.

Years after establishing his company, he met White when a mutual friend brought her to one of his barbecues.

“I remember looking at him and thinking, ‘He’s really cute,’” she admitted. “We ended up talking for a long time that night.”

The couple’s relationship came long after her amicable divorce with film director George Santo Pietro, who she shares her two children, Nicholas and Giovanna, with.

Since it’s been over a decade since they met, many have wondered why the happy couple haven’t tied the knot.
