The Voice Season 28: A Star-Studded Comeback with Twists You Won’t See Coming

‘The Voice’ Returns with Big Shake‑Up for Season 28 in Fall 2025

‘The Voice’ Returns with Big Shake‑Up for Season 28 in Fall 2025

Get ready—The Voice roars back for its 2025 edition, Season 28, with fresh energy, stirring drama, and a revamped coaching lineup. Mark your calendars now: it all kicks off Monday, September 22, 2025, at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.

In a major panel reshuffle, three familiar faces won’t be returning. John Legend, Kelsea Ballerini, and Adam Levine have all exited the coach chairs for Season 28. Meanwhile, four coaches are confirmed to take their places: Michael Bublé continues his streak, joined by comeback coaches Reba McEntire, Niall Horan, and Snoop Dogg.

Michael Bublé returns yet again, his third season in a row behind the red chair. His humble, empathetic coaching has earned praise from both fans and artists alike. In his opening hour, he even broke into a surprising duet of “Haven’t Met You Yet” with a contestant. Emotional moments like that define his style, and his mentoring has already led to back‑to‑back wins.

Reba McEntire confirmed her return via a July 10, 2025, Instagram post on set, quipping that she was “back in my other Happy Place” as she filmed the blind auditions. Her presence brings gravitas—she’s a proven winner and fan‑favorite coach.

Niall Horan also rejoins the lineup after a hiatus, bringing his own emotional, artist‑centered approach. And Snoop Dogg returns, too—but his return comes with some tension behind the scenes. The rapper recently made comments about LGBTQ+ representation—specifically around the film Lightyear—that reportedly didn’t sit well with NBC executives. The network, keen to preserve an inclusive environment, is said to be concerned about any divisive fallout that might linger into Season 28.

    Why It Matters

This shake‑up mixes stability with comeback energy. Fans of Bublé and Reba will find comfort in familiar mentoring, while Horan and Snoop bring fresh dynamics to the panel. But tension is brewing: can Snoop’s artistry outshine the controversy surrounding him? Meanwhile, the chemistry among coaches is central to the show’s drama—and this season looks poised to deliver both harmony and sparks.

All eyes will be on the premiere night. Will Bublé lead another winner? Can Reba regain triumph? And will fresh energy from Horan and Snoop bring something unexpected? One thing is certain: The Voice Season 28 promises a compelling mix of talent, mentorship, and behind‑the‑scenes stories you won’t want to miss.

Good news for game show fans! Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy!

How ‘Wheel of Fortune’ & ‘Jeopardy!’ Canadian Fans Can Stream Game Shows

    CBS/Sony

Good news for Canadian game show fans! Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! announced how fans in Canada can stream the shows, following a new U.S. streaming deal.

According to Deadline, Bell Media struck a deal with Sony Pictures Television Canada to stream Wheel and Jeopardy!. As of next month, both will stream on Crave, a Canadian subscription video-on-demand streamer owned by Bell Media. Just like in the U.S., the game shows will air the day after syndication on TV.

Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! both begin their new seasons on September 8.

Starting September 9, 100 library episodes from each show will also be released on Crave for fans to enjoy. Which episodes they will be is not clear.

Flory Bramnick, EVP, Distribution, North America, Sony Pictures Entertainment, told the outlet, “We are thrilled to bring Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune, two of the most successful game shows in television history, to streaming audiences on Crave this fall.”

“These iconic properties have become pillars of broadcast syndication, and we look forward to seeing them delight a new, untapped audience across streaming platforms.”

Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! reached a streaming deal for the U.S. in June. The deal was pushed to reach a younger and wider audience.

Jeopardy!' & 'Wheel of Fortune' Legal Case: CBS Loses To Sony In Court

The two game shows will stream on Peacock and Hulu through Disney+. Like the Canadian version, fans will be able to watch the syndicated episode the following day on the streamers. However, for American fans, news episodes will only be available for seven days after they land on the streamer, so watch quickly!

Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune are two of the most successful game shows in television history, and we look forward to giving fans the best possible streaming access to our shows this fall,” Keith Le Goy, Sony Pictures Television chairman, said in a statement.

However, this streaming deal is separate from the syndication deal for Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune. Sony and CBS are currently battling in a messy legal feud that has been ongoing since October 2024.

Because the game shows are syndicated, they can air on any major network. Sony claims CBS has failed to uphold its end of the contract by not distributing Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune in local markets as promised and doing so in an unauthorized fashion outside of the U.S. However, with new streaming deals in place, this could change, as Hulu and Peacock are tied to parent networks ABC and NBC.

The two iconic game shows have been staples in syndication for over 40 years.

Drew Carey isn’t known for roasting or mocking contestants on “The Price is Right,” but there are still some moments that don’t paint the host in a good light. One of those was when Carey made fun of a contestant’s prize and got slammed for it.

The contestant was Carl, who had won his way to the stage from Contestant’s Row as per a Monsters & Critics report. He was playing the Any Number game, the rules of which are simple. A contestant has the chance to win three prizes. In this case, they were a car, a TV, and a piggy bank amount, which can never be higher than $9. The contestant is given the first digit in the price of the car.

He will then have digits from 0 to 9, which he could pick and guess the prices of the prizes. None of the digits repeat. The first price that he guesses will be what he wins. Ideally, a contestant would want to win a car or at least the second prize. No one is ever thrilled about the piggy bank, as it contains a meager amount of money.

The first digit Carl guessed was a 2, which was in the piggy bank amount. “I think you get a sandwich if you win the piggy bank,” Carey joked. He then guessed a 3, which was in the price of the TV. After that, the contestant guessed a 1, which was in the price of the car, and the fans went nuts. The next digit he chose was a 9, which was the first one in the piggy bank, meaning that it contained $9.

Carl came pretty close to winning the car towards the end as things were as tight as they could ever get. With three digits remaining to pick from, he had one digit missing in each of the three prizes. He picked a 5, hoping that it would help him win the car. Unfortunately, that was the last digit of the piggy bank, which held $9.25. That’s when Carey made a seemingly unpopular joke.

“The good news is that $9 is the most you can win in the piggy bank, so that’s something,” he said. “Enjoy your double burger.” Fans of the show did not take kindly to this jab and made their thoughts known in the comments section of the clip on YouTube. “Ignored dumb Drew’s joke about buying a stupid burger at a fast food restaurant,” one viewer wrote.

“Showcasing a loss on the YouTube channel is nasty work lol,” quipped another. “What the (BLEEP) Price is Right? Stop showing a losing pricing game in an episode like that, and Drew Carey is ruining the show, as do the contestants. Don’t hate me about what I’ve said, please,” one more viewer commented.

With the top 3 confirmed, ‘American Idol’ is all set to roll out its grand finale on Sunday, May 18. While it’s a matter of celebration for finalists Breanna Nix, John Foster, and Jamal Roberts, the same can’t be said for the recently eliminated contestants. A hugely talented contestant who had secured a spot in the Top 5 was unexpectedly eliminated before the finale.  The shocking elimination prompted his wife to publicly express her opinion, saying he deserved a place in the finals.

On May 12, 2025, after 19 million votes were cast, ‘American Idol’ revealed its Top 3 finalists while eliminating Slater Nalley and Thunderstorm Artis. Both eliminated contestants shared heartfelt thank-you messages on Instagram, with Artis expressing gratitude despite his disappointment. His wife, Faith, later voiced strong support, stating he “deserved to be in that finale” and should have won, as per Entertainment Now.

Artis graciously addressed fans in a video posted on his Instagram account, expressing his gratitude to everyone involved. Though he admitted he was “disappointed about not advancing,” the singer remained positive. His wife, Faith, also showed her deep support in the comments, writing, “Love you SO MUCH, honey. You left it all out on that stage and I couldn’t be more proud.” She further added, “I think you deserved to be in that finale, but top 5 is HUGE… We love you so much, baby.”

Notably, Artis is married to Faith Artis, who is also the inspiration behind his song ‘Take It Slow’ and appears in its music video, as per TV Insider. The couple met while Faith was on a family vacation in Hawaii and attended a concert where Artis was a special guest. Faith recalled thinking, “I felt God tell me ‘you’re going to marry him, you’re going to marry him’ — ummmm what!?” Days later, Artis invited her whole family to his birthday party, and soon after, they bonded over music at church. Just three weeks later, Artis flew to Australia to be with her, and during that five-week visit, he proposed while they performed together.

‘The Voice’ season 27 successfully conducted the ‘Playoff’ rounds on 5th May, and the selected artists will now compete with each other during the ‘Live Sessions’ from 12th May. It may seem like a seamless show for the audience while cheering for their favorite teams each week, but coach Kelsea Ballerini surprisingly revealed that they haven’t filmed since 2024. “We’ve approached our final episode of the playoffs, which also means our last episode from filming last year, and next week we start the LIVE SHOWS for the semi-finals,” she confessed via a lengthy Instagram caption. The Grammy winner accompanied the gratitude post with a set of throwback behind-the-scenes pictures from the sets of the talent show.

The NBC show had switched up the taping schedules since seasons 24 and 25, as reported by MJ’s Big Blog. The blind auditions for both of the respective seasons were filmed in July, and the other rounds were taped during the summer.

OG coach John Legend shed light on the new process of filming while appearing on former coach Kelly Clarkson’s talk show in February. While explaining the latest changes, he also revealed that Michael Bublé became the only coach to tape with his teams for both seasons 26 and 27 simultaneously. “The way we’re taping these days, we do two seasons per, like, summer and early fall,” the ‘All of Me’ hitmaker disclosed. He continued, “So even when you’re away, you’re really not away. So they were taping Season 26, and then I would go tape Season 27 the next week. Back to back, so Michael was doing both, but the rest of us were only doing one or the other.”

“So, Snoop and Michael and Reba and Gwen were doing the season prior,” he said of the season 26 coaches. “It’s crazy for the producers (to manage), but for me, it’s so fun to do the show,” he added. Meanwhile, Ballerini did give major hints as to which artists from her team were already finalists. In her throwback post, the ‘Cowboys Cry Too’ hitmaker shared screenshots of text messages from one of her top team contestants preparing for the Live Shows, Iris Herrera. “Hope you’re feeling all the love today, that performance was so slay,” Ballerini confirmed with Herrera after the playoff rounds aired. The young artist affirmed that she had been spending time with her family while also prepping for the final rounds.

Herrera is widely touted as the ‘comeback contestant’ on ‘The Voice’; she earlier failed during season 26 blind auditions despite a powerful rendition of Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Gypsy.’ During the season 27 auditions, she pulled a heart-tugging number, ‘You Are My Sunshine,’ with a jailhouse rock twist, which eventually saw her competing from Ballerini’s team. “I didn’t, unfortunately, get any chairs. I wasn’t authentic and original to me. (Now) I’ve got a whole new vibe and a whole new song that’s specific to me,” she told NBC.

Taylor Swift surprised fans and ‘The Voice’ contestants when she joined the NBC talent show as a mega mentor not once but thrice. Swift first debuted in 2013 as an advisor during season 4 for Team Usher. As per NBC, she then returned in 2014 and 2019 for seasons 7 and 17, respectively. The ‘Bad Blood’ hitmaker described her mentoring approach as “very direct” while speaking exclusively with Extra’s Mario Lopez. “When they come into rehearsal, they walk in, they have a song they’ve chosen, and they sing it for us. I watch and I make some mental notes,” Swift explained. “We kind of give them some pointers and tips and things we could see done a little bit differently or a little bit better or connect a little more. I try really hard to give specific tips.”

Swift added that she adopted the no-nonsense style while guiding the future artists. “I like to tell them what they’re good at, what they should keep, and what they should change [or] alter,” she said. “These are lessons that I learned over the last 10 years on tour, but I learned them in front of huge crowds, on TV, and at award shows. To be able to tell them these things behind the scenes, in a rehearsal space, is really fun. You forget these lessons as you go.” The ‘Blank Space’ singer encountered emotional moments while mentoring the contestants for the ‘Knockout Rounds.’ During the season 17 rehearsals, Swift was visibly moved to tears when 14-year-old best friends Chelsea and Myla from team Kelly Clarkson beautifully rendered Ariana Grande and Nathan Sykes’ hit 2013 single, ‘Almost Is Never Enough,’ ET reported.

“Oh my god, I’m fully crying,” an emotionally charged Swift expressed. “I don’t know why. It’s just really, really great.” Clarkson had to hug the ‘Love Story’ singer before the latter could control herself fully. “When I started out, I was 10 or 11 years old singing for people,” Swift shared during the confessional. “But seeing young performers, who so firmly have their musical identity figured out, I was completely shattered by it. I fully fell apart. It was that good.”

OG coach Blake Shelton lauded the ‘Cruel Summer’ singer’s mentoring style and called her “super smart.” He was also thoroughly impressed by her straightforward approach and mentioned that the contestants were able to “tweak their performances to the next level.” “A lot of people don’t realize I raised Taylor Swift in the country music world, and she knows it,” Shelton joked while applauding the ‘You Belong to Me’ singer in an exclusive with ET. “She did great, though, as a mentor, and she did it the first time, and then coming back in this second time, it’s like she’s made for that,” he added.

Swifties were super stoked to watch their idol coach contestants on ‘The Voice,’ and according to a Reddit thread, a few even confessed to tuning in to the talent show only because of her. “Can someone just post when her specific episodes air? That’s the only thing I care about,” an online user stated. “I don’t even watch The Voice, but uhhh yea, I WILL be watching now,” a fan chimed. “Yes, please, someone tell me when and where to watch this, but only when Taylor will be on,” a netizen reacted.

‘The Voice’ and ‘American Idol’ have to be two of the most talked-about singing competitions on television. With both competitions recently wrapping up their seasons, the rating race is inevitable. While ‘American Idol’ stayed steady with strong ratings and a good connection to viewers, ‘The Voice’ saw its ratings drop by over 1 million viewers. The dramatic shift comes as a surprise, as earlier in the season, ‘The Voice’ was clearly edging over ‘American Idol.’A photo of judges Adam Levine, Kelsea Ballerini John Legend, and Michael Bublé on the sets of ‘The Voice’ (Instagram |The Voice NBC)

‘The Voice’ and ‘American Idol’  both aired their latest seasons on Monday nights, causing viewership shifts. On Monday, April 7, The Voice’s knockouts episode dropped to 3.32 million viewers, down over 1 million from the previous week’s 4.57 million. Meanwhile, ‘American Idol’ attracted 4.15 million viewers on Monday, April 7, beating ‘The Voice’ despite a decline from 5.12 million on Sunday, April 6. Earlier, on Monday, March 31, ‘The Voice’ held strong with 4.57 million viewers, while ‘American Idol’ dropped to 3.78 million. The schedule clash is impacting ratings, with ‘American Idol’ currently leading on Mondays, as per The US Sun.

Notably, earlier in the season, ‘The Voice’ outperformed ‘American Idol’ in viewership. For example, on Monday, March 24, The Voice had 4.93 million viewers, beating American Idol’s 4.66 million on Sunday, March 23. Similarly, on Monday, March 17, ‘The Voice’ drew 5.24 million viewers, surpassing American Idol’s 4.51 million on Sunday, March 16. The trend continued with The Voice’s Monday, March 10 episode attracting 5.47 million viewers, ahead of American Idol’s 4.49 million on Sunday, March 9. That said, undoubtedly, ‘The Voice’ held the edge in several key episodes this season.

Notably, The Voice’s complicated format also became the talk of the town. Although many in ‘The Voice’ Season 27 thought only 8 singers would reach the live shows, the Super Save brought back four more, changing the competition’s outcome, as per Collider. This decision felt unfair to singers who worked hard but had little time to perform for voters, making it harder to reach the finale. Not only that, but viewers only got to vote for the first time after the semi-finals, showing that the coaches mostly control the show.

Notably, four singers, Kolby Cordell, Kaiya Hamilton, Conor James, and Alanna Lynise, were eliminated after just one live performance, quietly leaving the competition. James, chosen as a Super Save, might have deserved a chance in the Instant Save but lost support because some fans wanted Britton Moore instead. This situation highlights how limited viewer voting can leave fans feeling disconnected. Allowing fans to choose the Super Save picks might help viewers feel more involved and invested in the competition’s outcome.

Unlike ‘American Idol,’ ‘The Voice’ constantly changes its format each season, making it hard for viewers to know what to expect during live shows. This lack of consistency means fans have less time to connect with contestants. In addition, Season 27’s sharp drop in singers during live rounds feels unfair and limits viewers’ ability to support their favorites, which also contributes to The Voice’s struggle to create megastars. While the finalists are talented, the focus often ends up on which coach wins rather than the singers themselves.

With much fanfare and high anticipation, ‘The Voice’ Season 27 recently concluded with Adam David taking home the win. However, it’s not just his victory that has everyone talking, but the finale episode has also become the center of attention thanks to guest performances from Kelly Clarkson, Joe Jonas, Blake Shelton, and others. However, in a dramatic turn of events, the show’s authenticity is being questioned. While the episode was promoted as live, some of the guest performances appear to suggest otherwise.

Reportedly, ‘The Voice’ Season 27’s finale was promoted as a “two-hour live event” featuring performances from all finalists and major music stars. However, the US Sun revealed that several of the performances were actually pre-recorded. One notable absence was Clarkson, who, according to a source, did not attend the live taping, which is likely due to her commitments filming ‘The Kelly Clarkson Show’ in New York.

According to an insider, Chance the Rapper, Jonas, and Shelton were also absent from the live taping. Shelton did return to sing his song ‘Texas,’ but his performance was also filmed ahead of time. Chance’s performance of ‘Space and Time’ impressed viewers with its creativity and energy, while Jonas left his emotions onstage with a moving rendition of ‘Heart by Heart.’

However, both were filmed ahead of the finale day and aired seamlessly as if they were live. “After each of their performances, the show tossed it back to host Carson Daly, who reacted live to the singers after a screen showed the studio pre-taped performances,” the insider added, while revealing how the show blended taped segments with live reactions to maintain the illusion.

This is not the only thing from The Voice’s finale that is garnering attention. In a surprising turn of events, Kelsea Ballerini’s team member, Jaelen Johnston, forgets the lyrics in a very crucial moment in the finale. Johnston, the final country singer in ‘The Voice Season’ 27 and Ballerini’s Super Save, took a bold step with Dierks Bentley’s high-energy hit ‘What Was I Thinkin’ for his first finale performance. However, just seconds into the fast-paced track, Johnston stumbled, forgetting the lyrics. Despite the mishap, Ballerini praised his resilience and comeback, as per WKKJ.

“Oh, I just, I’m so proud of you,” she told the 22-year-old Kansas native. “I know that you had a moment early on where you got nervous. But the thing is, this is like the most nerve-wracking thing you could do, and the way that you recover is the only thing that matters. And you locked back in. And you got back in your body. You got back in your voice, and you delivered, and you moved, and everyone loves you. That was the most impressive part. You really showed up. You really showed up. I’m so proud of you.”

Johnston returned for his final performance with a soulful take on Chris Stapleton’s powerhouse ballad ‘Cold.’ The emotional song choice initially made coach Ballerini uneasy but Johnston’s delivery quickly won her over. She added, “Congratulations. You have continued to show up and grow every single time you get on the stage. You’ve always done it with kindness, with grace, with intention, and with a heart to tell the story of country music. I’m so proud to be your coach.”
