‘SNL’: Michael Longfellow Leaving After Three Seasons

Longfellow joined the show as a featured player in Season 48 and was promoted to the main cast ahead of Season 50.

He joins Devon Walker, who joined at the same time, and Emil Wakim, who are also both leaving ahead of Season 51. More are expected to depart before the season starts.

Longfellow’s departure is somewhat of a surprise given that he was seemingly being primed to take over the Weekend Update desk at some point after some successful stints behind the desk, joking about topics such as TikTok and Real ID. He even appeared on Weekend Update on his first ever show (see below).

In May, he joked that he wasn’t on the show much in Season 50.  “I work like 12 hours a week. When you love your job, it never feels like work. No, I’m just not in that much stuff this season. It’s fine, I walk around, they don’t really keep tabs on your whereabouts here,” he joked on Weekend Update alongside Colin Jost.

Michael Longfellow Out at Saturday Night Live

His departure comes as creator Lorne Michaels shakes up the cast ahead of Season 51. Writers Celeste Yim and Rosebud Baker have also departed.

Outside of SNL, Longfellow starred in Good Burger 2, and he is a touring stand-up, having appeared on the Netflix is a Joke festival, as well as on NBC comedy reality series Bring The Funny, which was hosted by his future colleague Kenan Thompson.

Saturday Night Live, which is produced by Broadway Video in association with SNL Studios, returns on October 4.

“Will not be returning for a 4th season at SNL. Wish I was but, so it goes. It was the best three years of my life so far. I feel nothing but gratitude for the experience and everyone there. Lorne, you gave me the greatest job in the world and changed my life. You even put my mom on TV. Thank you doesn’t begin to cover it, but thank you,” he wrote on Instagram. “I’ll miss it all, but I’ll miss the friends I made and seeing them every day the most.”

“Excited for the future and things to come. If you take anything away from my time on SNL let it be that smoking you makes you skinny and popular, Jesus was Chinese, and if a tortoise ever gives you trouble just kill him tough guy. You won’t,” he added.

With ‘The Voice’ Season 28 set to premiere this September, Niall Horan is already back in the spotlight — and his latest Instagram post has only added to the buzz. On June 6, the singer and returning coach shared a 12-photo dump on Instagram, captioned “dumpy mcdumperson,” offering fans a casual, behind-the-scenes look at his life.

While the post included everything from food pics to milestone plaques celebrating over 1 billion streams for ‘This Town’ and ‘Slow Hands’, one image in particular sparked serious speculation. The shot quickly lit up the comments section, with fans speculating about a possible collaboration — and the best part? Some even wondered if Horan was teasing a major ‘Voice’ update.

However, what truly caught fans’ attention was a photo of the former One Direction member alongside popular singer-songwriter Noah Kahan. The image immediately sparked speculation — not just about a potential musical collaboration, but also whether Kahan could be appearing on The Voice. “Noah and Niall collab?!” one user commented. Another added, “Niall and Noah? Oww omg.” A third asked, “Niall and Noah? Is there a collab coming?” while another fan chimed in, “Are you and Noah Kahan making music? Well needed.” An especially excited fan declared, “Niall and Noah, Niall and Noah, this is not a drill.” But the speculation didn’t stop there — one user took it a step further, writing, “Guys, hear me out. Do you think Noah might appear on the voice?”

A fan quickly jumped to this: “I see it happening.” While another said, “I would love to see Noah on the voice.” Kahan, who shot to fame after the release of his 2022 album ‘Stick Season,’ fueled the collaboration rumors by leaving a comment on Horan’s Instagram post that read, “Three hundred Negronis.” Shortly afterward, one user responded to Kahan’s comment by writing, “Song lyrics entering the chat? 😆.” On the other hand, another user quipped, “New album title.” One user commented, “Stunning Niall, we need your album quickly.” However, as of now, there’s no confirmation of Kahan joining ‘The Voice’, and while fans are hopeful, it seems unlikely.

In the past, Kahan has candidly spoken about wanting to collaborate with Horan. In January 2024, the ‘You’re Gonna Go Far’ hitmaker took to X (formerly known as Twitter) and noted that the two of them had suddenly started following each other on Instagram. At that point in time, Kahan tweeted, “Niall horan let’s golf or make some music, I assume the fans would prefer the second thing but just lmk.”

During an interview with FM104 in Dublin, Kahan expressed his desire to work with Horan. “I would love to collaborate with my dear Niall, who I love, who’s a friend of mine now, and just feel like we should make something together. We talk about songwriting here and there, and I feel like we have very similar perspectives on it, and I think it’d be a really cool time writing a song with him,” Kahan shared at that time, as per Entertainment Now.

When we talk about Horan, he confirmed that he’s working on a new album in March 2025. In an interview with Golf Pass, Horan was asked, “What’s the number one thing you’re currently working on or excited about for the future?” to which he replied, “I am literally, this week, just about to sit down and I’ve been like accumulating some ideas but I’m going to sit down and start writing my next album.” After Horan’s latest Instagram post, fans have speculated that he might release his new album around the same time he returns to ‘The Voice’ as a coach for Season 28, which is set to premiere in mid-September.

Over the course of its 27 seasons, ‘The Voice’ has opened doors to many talented contestants. While every season of the show is celebrated for its unique blind auditions and playful banter between the coaches, nothing comes close to the controversy that surrounded ‘The Voice’ season 22’s semi-finals. The particular episode had controversial eliminations, which made fans so furious that they couldn’t help but question the legitimacy of the voting system, making it one of the most controversial moments in television history.

In the semi-finals of ‘The Voice’ Season 22, controversy erupted after all four finalists, three from Blake Shelton’s team and one from Camila Cabello’s, were white, while all contestants of color, including those from John Legend’s and Gwen Stefani’s teams, were eliminated. This sparked accusations of racial bias in the public voting process, with fans and media suggesting that visual identity may have outweighed vocal talent in determining the results, as per Collider.

Coach Legend, visibly shocked by the results, didn’t hold back in expressing his disappointment and hinted that race may have played a role in the outcome. Sharing on social media, he wrote, “I love coaching on @nbcthevoice because I get the honor of working with truly special artists who inspire me so much … It was disappointing and mystifying to watch all 3 Team Legend artists and @jaaron_88 have to fight for one remaining spot in the finale.”

Fans of ‘The Voice’ were left furious, as many shared their opinion on X. A fan shared, “Yeah no I’m done. Wtf is THIS?? You see what I see?” while another said, “Why are the best singers at the bottom for votes? There’s no comparison. Kim and Parajita were amazing!” Meanwhile, another noted, “All the minorities in the bottom 4… hmmmm.” Another viewer remarked, “This is unacceptable man! This goes to shoe how America really works.” A fan shared, “This is absolutely the most disgusting display of bias I have ever seen. This show is completely rigged. It should change it’s name from the Voice to the the Noise! People voting on the coaches not the singers. Disgusting really.”

This is not the only time when ‘The Voice’ faced public scrutiny. When Olympian Simone Biles was recruited as a playoff advisor on the show. The 11-time Olympic medalist joined Team Snoop to help mentor his group of vocalists. Biles was joined by other celebrity advisors, like country stars Lainey Wilson and Carly Pearce. With no background in singing, Biles’ role raised eyebrows among some viewers. Still, Biles seemed eager and supportive, bringing encouragement and motivation rather than technical notes. It’s clear her presence is less about vocal range and more about mindset—though the internet remains divided on whether that’s enough, per Chron.

In an interview with the Associated Press ahead of his ‘The Voice’ episode, coach Snoop Dogg explained why he chose Biles as his playoff advisor, revealing their bond formed during the 2024 Paris Olympics. The rapper said, “We have such diverse careers. But the things that we dealt with, they’re dealing with now,” Snoop shared. “We have the best experience and knowledge to give to these performers. She’s a performer. I’m a performer. We’ve performed under extreme conditions. We always do our best. But sometimes things happen behind closed doors that you don’t know about. So we’re able to speak to those things and give them real reassurance.”

The 72-year-old shared a clip of herself walking on a treadmill for physical therapy, saying, “I’m back!” in the caption. She told fans, “Just three weeks after spinal fusion and anterior plate or something, I don’t know…and I’m back on a treadmill.”

She joked, “I’m almost 100% bionic now.” Potts looked great in the new video, noting that she would try the elliptical machine next.

Fans cheered on the actress, writing comments like, “You are amazing, Annie. An inspiration to us all. You get better, girl! 💪🏻😊💞,” and “Awesome Job Annie!! You Look Great at 72!! ❤️❤️🙏🙏.”

“Yay glad to see you are doing well 😍,” wrote a third fan.

Potts has been very open about her health struggles over the years, saying in an August 2024 video that she has undergone numerous surgeries in the aftermath of a car accident that occurred over 50 years ago. When she posted the video, she was getting one of her knees replaced for the second time.

“It’s something like my 25th or 26th surgery, I’ve kind of lost count,” she said in the clip, before recounting the accident when teenagers under the influence of alcohol were drag racing and hit her.

“I broke every bone below my waist but one,” Potts recalled. “So I’ve been trying to put myself back together for 50 years.”

One judge is out for good on ‘The Voice’ — and the reason sounds messy: ‘She was the worst…’

Judges may come and go, but ‘The Voice’ shall continue. Over the last 27 seasons, the singing competition has welcomed many new and returning celebrity coaches, including pop icon Camila Cabello.

The ‘Havana’ hitmaker joined Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani, and John Legend as a first-time coach in season 22.

She brought a new wave of cheerfulness and spontaneity with her amazing sense of humor and presence of mind. Her banter, especially with Shelton, was highly appreciated by the fans. However, it’s been a while since she appeared on the show, and the fans believe it will remain that way.

‘The Voice’ coaches tend to do more than one season, and some even sign for a multiple-season deal. But Cabello is certainly an exception, as fans claim she may never return. “I hope Camilla comes back,” the Reddit channel for ‘The Voice’ wrote, prompting discussion. “I doubt that I think there was a falling out behind the scenes between her and the voice because she no longer follows the voice on Instagram, the only coach to ever do so,” one Reddit user replied. Another internet user pointed out that the ‘My Oh My’ singer never spoke about the show since appearing on a season. “I think Ariana has more of a chance of coming back than (sic) Camilla,” another fan claimed.

One social media user alleged that Cabello would “never” return to ‘The Voice.’ “My source at the voice said Camila is never coming back. He wouldn’t tell me why, but all he said was that she was the worst coach they ever had,” the same user added. “I’m not sure what exactly happened, but I am guessing behind-the-scenes stuff? I really like her and liked her on the show, so it’s a bummer,” the fan added. Cabello’s season welcomed some amazing and young talents, and many of them chose her as their mentor. Although the team she led was arguably one of the strongest, she couldn’t win the title.

Blake Shelton’s team was considered weak compared to other seasons, but he ended up winning with wildcard contestant, Bryce Leatherwood.

The latter’s Country music flair and overall swag made America fall in love with him. Leatherwood was the ninth and final winner from team Shelton until his retirement.

The legendary Country singer stepped down as a coach after season 23 to spend more quality time with his family. He tied the knot to fellow coach, Gwen Stefani, in 2021 and became stepdad to her three sons: Kingston, Zuma, and Apollo.

19-year-old Frank Garcia openly shared his sexuality during his ‘The Voice’ Season 25 audition in 2024, saying, “Since I was little, I knew that I was gay.”

Fortunately, debut coaches Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney took him under their wings after his soul-stirring rendition of Adele’s ‘Love in the Dark.’ However, this was not the first time Garcia performed on a singing talent show. As per NBC, he previously competed on Season 4 of the Spanish ‘La Voz Kids,’ reaching the Battle Rounds before elimination.

Meanwhile, during ‘The Voice’ Knockout Rounds, Garcia, who had initially struggled to ‘come out of the closet’ due to extreme bullying, wanted to establish himself as a successful queer singer. With incredible support from mega-mentor Keith Urban, he chose to perform José José’s ‘El Triste’ (The Sad One) to deliver a powerful message.

Explaining his connection, he said, “Not only does this song allow me to present my heritage and my roots, but also this song just holds a lot of memories for me.” “It has been with me throughout the process of my self-identity journey. I like being different; that’s what makes me special! I also get to show that we queer Mexican and Latino boys can make it, as anyone else can.” Unfortunately, Dan + Shay chose rival Olivia Rubini over him, as per Music Times.

However, the fan-favorite’s elimination was labeled unfair by viewers, and they vehemently criticized the coaches on X. Why, Frank, why? That was beautiful, and he totally killed it. @DanAndShay made their first big fumble. Sad to see him go. Bummer #theVoice,” an X user slammed.

“Why is the Hispanic person always getting kicked out when they sing this song?? Do you know Americans do not know how DIFFICULT that song is?! He sang better than the other girl. Her voice is common and has been heard in previous seasons. Frank is unique,” a fan chimed in. “Frank Garcia needs to come back! His win was taken from under him! He is talented, performs with passion, and delivers; his voice is clear and rich, and his timbre and endurance were spectacular,” a netizen voiced.

The R&B soul singer later confessed that by opening on stage, he truly embraced himself and his voice. “I feel like it really helped me embrace myself,” he said. “Even though I love Mariachi music, and it’s my culture, it did feel very restrictive. I just couldn’t be who I wanted to be.” As per the Columbia Spectator, Garcia didn’t get the opportunity to appear on ‘The Voice’ until he tried out for the sixth time. The teen is now pursuing med school and practices music during his free time. “I was like, ‘Eventually I’m going to have to quit music because I’m on the pre-med track, so I need to get a grip eventually,’” Garcia concluded. “So I was like, ‘Let me just do it for right now.’… And then I got in.”

Blake Shelton is all set to return to his judging duties, but this time it’s not for ‘The Voice.’ Notably, Shelton left the singing reality show in May 2023 after 23 long seasons.

The country star recently made a grand comeback in the season 27 finale, making fans wonder if he will return to the show.

However, a return to ‘The Voice’ doesn’t seem likely anytime soon, as the release date for Shelton’s new singing competition has just been revealed.

The show in discussion is ‘The Road,’ which is produced by Shelton and ‘Yellowstone’ creator Taylor Sheridan.

It is all set to premiere on Sunday, October 19, 2025, on CBS and will star Keith Urban, Gretchen Wilson, and Shelton as the judges, according to American Songwriter.

Reportedly, unlike traditional formats of singing competitions, ‘The Road’ will feature emerging artists performing as openers for Urban at venues nationwide, with live audiences deciding who advances to the next city. In the show’s trailer, Wilson warns contestants, saying, “Opening for Keith is not for the faint of heart.”
