Reba McEntire Calls It Out! Star Slams Viral Hoax About Dolly Parton — Fans Praise Her Fierce Loyalty

Reba McEntire, 70, called out a recent AI hoax showing her at Dolly Parton’s, 79, ‘deathbed’

Reba McEntire called out a recent AI hoax showing her at Dolly Parton’s ‘deathbed.’

The Fancy hitmaker, 70, shared a video to her Instagram on Thursday, sending support to the country legend, 79, after the fake photo began circulating on social media.

Reba humorously slammed the image, a day after Dolly broke her silence amid her health battle, telling fans she ‘ain’t dead yet,’ and joking that if she were dying Reba would not be the one at her deathbed.

‘You tell ’em, Dolly, that AI mess has got us doing all kinds of crazy things. You are out there dying, I’m out here having a baby,’ Reba said, showing the original image as well as another fake photo of her holding a sonogram.

‘Well, both of us know you’re too young and I’m too old for any of that kind of nonsense,’ she added.

‘You better know I’m praying for you. I love you with all my heart, and I can’t wait to see you soon,’ she added.

In the caption, Reba wrote: ‘Too young to die, too old for babies [laughing emoji] I love you, @DollyParton! See you soon ❤️.’

Dolly left a heart emoji in the comments of Reba’s post.

In Dolly’s video the day prior, the Jolene singer also addressed the photo.

‘Did you see that AI picture of Reba and me? I mean they had Reba at my deathbed. And we both looked like we needed to be buried,’ she said, laughing.

‘I thought, oh my Lord. But if I was really dying, I don’t think Reba would be the one at my deathbed. She might come visit me, earlier,’ Dolly quipped.

Fans began worrying about Dolly’s wellbeing this week after her sister asked for ‘prayers’ for the star.

But in her latest video, the country singer was dolled up in a red fringed shirt and black slacks with peep-toe heels as she was sitting on a stool in front of a green screen to film an advert.

The crooner put her fans’ fears to rest as she said in the video: ‘I ain’t dead yet!’

Dolly also asked, ‘Do I look sick to you?’

The movie star added that she does have some health ‘problems’ but they are being dealt with.

Last week her younger sibling Freida Parton had worried fans after asking them to pray for her sister amid ‘health challenges’.

Dolly said she is certainly a fan of prayer and has ‘faith’ but assured there is no need for her fans to pray for her.

The Tennessee star began her video message, filmed on set for the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville advert, by saying ‘there’s a lot of rumors out there.’

Dolly added: ‘Well, today’s October 8, and obviously I’m here. … Do I look sick to you?… I wanted to put everybody’s mind at ease, those that seem to be real concerned, which I appreciate – and I appreciate your prayers, because I’m a person of faith, I can always use the prayers for anything and everything – but I want you to know that I’m OK!’

‘I’ve got some problems, as I’ve mentioned. Back when my husband Carl was very sick – that was for a long time – and then when he passed I didn’t take care of myself, so I let a lot of things go that I should have been taking care of … nothing major, but I did have to cancel some things so I could be closer to home.’

Dolly did not disclose what the ‘few treatments here and there’ she’s undergoing are, but said it is not that serious.

‘I’m not dying!’ she added. ‘There’s just a lot of rumors flying around.

‘But I figured if you heard it from me, you’d know that I was OK. I ain’t done yet – I don’t think God is through with me, and I ain’t done workin’.’

Earlier this week Dolly’s younger sister Stella Parton mentioned the music icon’s mystery health condition in a post defending her sibling Freida.

The day prior Dolly addressed the fake photo, joking, 'If I was really dying, I don't think Reba would be the one at my deathbed. She might come visit me, earlier'

Dolly sparked worldwide concern when she announced she was postponing six shows for her from her upcoming Dolly: Live in Las Vegas residency.

Stella, 76, took to X to defend Freida’s post, and detail how the Jolene hitmaker has been battling kidney stones.

She wrote on X on Wednesday: ‘To those with genuine concern for my big sister Dolly’s well-being, she posted a video last week to share with her fans that she has had kidney stones and is getting treatment.

‘My sister Freida is always concerned when one of her siblings isn’t feeling well so she ask for prayers on Dolly’s behalf. It’s my job as a sister to both of them to love and respect their privacy as I expect them to do for me.

‘To those of you who make it your job to attack me for not being your personal information center, you need to go check their pages!

‘Most fans are genuinely concerned but some of you are way out of line with disregard for my feelings concerning their well-being.

‘My big sister will share with her fans when she so chooses in the meantime don’t come at me with questions or insults.’

This comes after Dolly’s representatives confirmed that the singer was not seriously ill after her family asked fans to send love and prayers to the country musician.

Her UK manager Olly Rowland has confirmed that Freida’s post has blown Dolly’s mysterious illness out of proportion.

He explained: ‘It’s just the kidney stones, and the procedure she needs to resolve those.

‘It looks like her sister posted, and it got quite a bit blown out of proportion, weirdly.’

On Tuesday night, her sister Frieda took to Facebook telling fans: 'Last night, I was up all night praying for my sister, Dolly' as she sparked worry among fans

Freida has also shared an update on Facebook as she penned: ‘I didn’t mean to scare anyone or make it sound so serious.

‘She’s been a little under the weather and I simply asked for prayers because I believe so strongly in the power of prayer.

‘It was nothing more than a little sister asking for prayers for her big sister. Thank you all for lifting her up. Your love truly makes a difference.’

Dolly has previously suffered from kidney stones both last month and back in 2015.

On Tuesday night Frieda took to Facebook telling fans: ‘Last night, I was up all night praying for my sister, Dolly.

‘Many of you know she hasn’t been feeling her best lately. I truly believe in the power of prayer, and I have been led to ask all of the world that loves her to be prayer warriors and pray with me.’

‘She’s strong, she’s loved,’ she continued. ‘And with all the prayers being lifted for her, I know in my heart she’s going to be just fine. Godspeed, my sissy Dolly. We all love you!’

Dolly announced on September 28 that she would be postponing her Las Vegas residency — originally scheduled from December 4 to December 13 at the Colosseum Theater at Caesars Palace — until September 2026 due to ‘health challenges.’

The star shared the news directly with fans on Instagram, explaining that she has been facing health challenges that require her to undergo several medical procedures.

‘I want the fans and public to hear directly from me that, unfortunately, I will need to postpone my upcoming Las Vegas concerts,’ Dolly wrote. ‘As many of you know, I have been dealing with some health challenges, and my doctors tell me that I must have a few procedures.’

In her signature style, she joked that it felt like time for her ‘100,000-mile check-up,’ clarifying that it wasn’t her ‘usual trip to see [her] plastic surgeon.’

Despite the setback, Dolly reassured fans that she is not retiring.

‘Don’t worry about me quittin’ the business because God hasn’t said anything about stopping yet,’ she said.

‘But, I believe He is telling me to slow down right now so I can be ready for more big adventures with all of you. I love you and thank you for understanding.’

Reba McEntire is firing back at the use of AI-generated images.

The “Fancy” singer posted a message on her Instagram stories Thursday to slam the use of AI-generated images in support of fellow country music star Dolly Parton.

“You tell ’em, Dolly,” McEntire wrote. “That AI mess has got us doing all kinds of crazy things. You’re out there dying, I’m out here having a baby. Well, both of us know you’re too young, and I’m too old for any of that kind of nonsense.”

McEntire was referring to AI-generated images that showed the star, 70, and fiancé Rex Linn posing with an ultrasound photo as Linn cradles McEntire’s pregnant stomach.

A split of Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton.

Another fake photo making the rounds online recently featured Parton lying in a hospital bed attached to a tube as McEntire sits at her bedside praying and wiping away tears from her eyes.

Reps for McEntire did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

“You’re out there dying, I’m out here having a baby. Well, both of us know you’re too young, and I’m too old for any of that kind of nonsense.”

The image of Parton on her “deathbed” began circulating after Parton announced last month that due to certain “health challenges,” her scheduled six-night residency in Las Vegas would be postponed from December 2025 to September 2026.

In response to the images, Parton posted a video on Instagram telling her followers, “If I was really dying, I don’t think Reba would be the one at my death bed,” adding she hopes McEntire “might come visit me earlier.”

The singer’s sister, Frieda, further raised concerns about Parton’s health when she asked fans to join her in prayer for the songstress.

“Many of you know she hasn’t been feeling her best lately,” Frieda wrote on Facebook. “I truly believe in the power of prayer, and I have been lead to ask all of the world that loves her to be prayer warriors and pray with me.”

Parton took to Instagram earlier this week to dispel rumors she was dying, telling her fans, “I’m not ready to die yet.”

“I didn’t take care of myself, so I let a lot of things go that I should have been taking care of,” Parton explained. “When I got around to it, the doctor said we need to take care of this, we need to take care of that. Nothing major, but I did have to cancel some things so I could be closer to home, closer to Vanderbilt where I’m kind of having some treatments here and there.”

McEntire also touched on the health concerns Parton alluded to in her recent Instagram story, letting her friend know, “You better know I’m praying for you. I love you with all my heart, and I can’t wait to see you soon. Love you!”

Reba McEntire Shut Down Snoop Dogg’s Sabotage Plan on The Voice with 5 Short Words

A Team Reba Battle sparked a duel between McEntire and Snoop. Here’s what happened.

The Voice': Reba McEntire & Snoop Dogg Shed Tears Over 'Amazing Singer'

Was this the most exciting moment of The Voice Season 28 so far? On the second night of the Battles, Team Reba Artists Aubrey Nicole and Cori Kennedy chose one another as duet partners, and their Coach Reba McEntire assigned them “Something Bad” by Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert. It was a perfect match between girls, material, moment, and mentors.

The ladies dissolved into shrieks when they learned their Battle Advisor was Nick Jonas. Nicole explained that not only was she a student at Belmont University, where Jonas’ brother Frankie had gone, but she sang McEntire’s song “Fancy” to get in, so it was all full circle. During their performance, they totally locked in, staring each other in the eyes and belting their hearts out.

“I don’t know how she could choose one of you over the other, because for me, it’s impossible. Aubrey, you crushed. Cori, what the hell? Sorry, Reba,” Coach Michael Bublé said afterward. Coach Niall Horan agreed, saying, “That was a real Battle. That’s how you do it…two very different voices. Cori, you were performing the hell out of it. Aubrey, flawless.”

“It was good in rehearsal, but it just went up. Thank y’all for putting all the work in,” added McEntire.

Coach Snoop Dogg praised McEntire for hearing qualities in Nicole and Kennedy’s voices that the other Coaches missed during Blind Auditions. “Reba, you’ve done it again,” he said. “You always find people that—you see something in them. Once we get a chance to hear them after they sat with you, we see and hear the excellence that you see when we probably had no clue. Y’all made ‘Something Bad’ something good.”

Snoop then offered to do “something that I normally don’t do,” which is to give McEntire his definitive take on a winner of the Battle: “For the sake of the Battle, I would choose Cori,” he said.

    McEntire agreed, and Kennedy won.

“Reba, anything you wanna say to Aubrey?” asked Host Carson Daly after McEntire announced her winner. Immediately, McEntire responded by pressing her Save button, but not so fast: Snoop then pressed his Steal button.

McEntire stood up, hands on her hips, to frown at Snoop for trying to take her Artist. Apparently, this was all a big plan. “Aubrey just performed her ass off. That was a hell of a performance. I actually said Cori so that [Reba] could take Cori, so that I could take [Aubrey]. So half of the plan worked. But it’s just the other half. I didn’t think [Reba] would save [Aubrey],” Snoop explained.

McEntire was having none of it. “Aubrey, I think you oughta stay on my team because we are having fun. I know your potential and we can keep that ball rolling,” she said.

Then, these five short words from McEntire sealed the deal: I love Snoop but NO,” she said firmly. And Nicole heard that. “Snoop, I love you, but, I’m going to have to go with my girl,” she said, staying on Team Reba.

At least Snoop still has his Steal? “Naturally Reba Magnet-ire got what she wanted,” Snoop bemoaned afterward, using the perfect nickname he’s given his fellow Coach.

‘The Voice’ Season 28: Who Went Home on Night 2 of the Battles Last Night?

Spoiler alert! Michael Bublé, Reba McEntire, Snoop Dogg, and Niall Horan decide which of their teammates will make it through the Battles for Season 28 of ‘The Voice.’

    Aubrey Nicole, Cori Kennedy

    Key Points

New rule: artists choose their Battle partners; coaches decide who advances.
Snoop, Michael, Reba, and Niall used Steals and Saves strategically this episode.
Key eliminations: Alex Brown, Camille Tredoux, Carly Harvey, Letter to Elise, Lucas Beltran.

The Battles continued on Tuesday night for Season 28 of The Voice with coaches Michael BubléReba McEntireSnoop Dogg, and Niall Horan determining which of their paired teammates will make it through to the Knockouts and which went home.

The twist this season is that the 12 artists on each team decide who they will Battle rather than the coaches pairing them up. But the coaches do make the final decision as to who stays.

That said, each coach has one Steal and one Save this season. On night one, Snoop used his Save on Natalia Albertini, and Michael used his on Trinity. Reba, on the other hand, used her Steal on Austin Gilbert. On night two, Niall used his Steal on Sadie Dahl and Reba used her Save to keep Aubrey Nicole on her team.

This season, celebrity advisors have returned for the Battles. Kelsea Ballerini is assisting Team Bublé, Lewis Capaldi is tutoring Team Niall, Lizzo is guiding Team Snoop, and Nick Jonas is instructing Team Reba.

Battle Round 1: Letter to Elise vs Ryan Mitchell (Carson Callback) from Team Reba

Song: “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” by Simple Minds

    Winner: Ryan Mitchell

Reba said: “I think the reason that the Battle Rounds really make people get better is because they’re trying to impress the person they’re singing with and vice versa, so the other person will make them rise to the occasion. That’s why I love the Battle Rounds so much. I had to choose Ryan. He’s got a confidence, he’s a quick study, he listens, he’s easy to coach and that’s a coach’s dream.”

Battle Round 2: Sadie Dahl (Four-chair turn) vs Toni Lorene from Team Snoop

Song: “Love on the Brain” by Rihanna

    Winner: Toni Lorene

Snoop said: “Toni was just spectacular. What I loved about Toni was her precision at hitting those notes, striking up and letting everyone know it was a Battle. Having that star power that you can’t teach; you just got to have. She’s the whole package. She’s got the look, the feel, the sound.”

    Steal: Sadie Dahl

Niall said: “She’s shown that she can sing just about anything. Snoop couldn’t make a bad decision there. Thank goodness he chose Toni because I’ve been waiting for Sadie. She fits right in. Something I don’t have: a big powerful voice like that.”

Battle Round 3: Max Cooper III vs Lucas Beltran from Team Bublé

Song: “It’s a Beautiful Day” by Michael Bublé

    Winner: Max Cooper III

Michael said: “One of the reasons I love to be a part of this project is honestly the humanity, the raw emotion that comes with people caring about other people and being passionate toward their dream. Max isn’t bound toward any sort of music.”

Battle Round 4: Camille Tredoux vs Kayleigh Clark (4-chair turn) from Team Niall

Song: “Cowboy’s Cry Too” by Kelsea Ballerini

    Winner: Kayleigh Clark

Niall said: “Kayleigh is special. Kayleigh is like a mini-Carrie Underwood. She has so much control over everything she does in low range, in high range. Everything about her is the perfect singer.”

Battle Round 5: Alex Brown vs Liam von Elbe from Team Niall

    Song: “Linger” by The Cranberries

    Winner: Liam von Elbe

Niall said: “Liam is a great singer/songwriter.  He is very true to who he is. What makes Liam different than everybody else is he’s the only one of his style on my team. I definitely have a soft spot for a singer/songwriter.”

Battle Round 6: Carly Harvey vs Marty O’Reilly from Team Bublé

Song: “At This Moment” by Billy Vera and the Beaters

    Winner: Marty O’Reilly

Michael said: “Marty is one of my favorite voices. I think he has one of the most unique, special wonderful sounds. If I turn on the radio, I don’t need one second to know it’s Marty. I honestly think he could be the underdog in this competition.”

Battle Round 7: Aubrey Nicole vs Cori Kennedy from Team Reba

Song: “Somethin’ Bad” feat. Carrie Underwood by Miranda Lambert

    Winner: Cori Kennedy

Reba said: “I had to chose Cori because she’s real country, got that grit. She’s feisty and powerful.”

But Aubrey isn’t going anywhere. Reba pressed her Save button to keep Aubrey on her team, but Snoop pressed his Steal button.

    Save: Aubrey Nicole

Reba said: “I am so glad that being the only one to turn during the Blind Auditions, she chose [to stay with] me. Aubrey is different. She’s sweet, she’s young, she’s got great range. I am just glad I got to keep them both on my team.”

Katy Perry Opens Up About Justin Trudeau for the First Time

Katy Perry May Have Just Acknowledged Her Rumored Romance with Justin Trudeau

Katy Perry and former Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau may not have hard launched their potential relationship yet, however, Katy may have acknowledged the romance during the first stop of her Lifetimes Tour in London on Monday, October 13.

In a TikTok video that was shared by someone who attended the show, the former “American Idol” judge is talking to a fan who has been brought onstage and asks, “What does your sign say?”

“I heard you’re single?” the fan replies, perhaps referring to Katy’s split from Orlando Bloom.

However, Katy responds by saying, “You heard I was single? That’s interesting.”

The fan then got down on one knee and showed the singer what was written on the sign he was holding, which read: “Katy Perry will you marry me?”

“I couldn’t read that high up! Are you kidding me? Not today,” Katy said rather emphatically. Then, seemingly referring to her recent time spent with Justin, she added, “You know you really should have asked me about 48 hours ago.”

Another video showed the fan being helped off stage as Katy says, “He’s just a little too late.”

Despite the fact that Katy may have been single following her break-up with Orlando, that doesn’t mean she was ready to immediately jump back into the dating scene. In fact, a source told People on October 13, “When she first hung out with Justin, she wasn’t looking to date, but they stayed in touch.”

While the source noted that Katy and Justin “have many shared interests and a lot of talk about,” they pointed out that “Katy was navigating too many things to even think about dating then.”

    Justin Has Been ‘Pursuing’ Katy

    Justin TrudeauGettyJustin Trudeau
Katy may not have been actively looking to date when she connected with Justin, however, he has apparently been feeling the opposite way.

Following the pair’s July date in Montreal which saw them enjoying dinner together, Justin has “been pursuing her since,” according to the source. “He even flew to California to see her during a tour break.”

That’s not to mention taking his 16-year-old daughter, Ella-Grace, to Katy’s concert.

Of course, there’s obviously a reason why Justin has been pursuing Katy. It seems like they might be a good match for each other. While talking to People, the source pointed out, “They have an easy connection. She finds him attractive. He’s been very respectful.”

The judges for season 24 of American Idol have been revealed — Meet Your American Idol Season 24 Judges

American Idol judges confirmed for new season — but one role remains uncertain

The judges for season 24 of American Idol have been revealed — but the host of the program is yet to be confirmed.

The singing competition shared a back-to-school themed video Monday on Instagram to confirm this year’s panel of judges: Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie, and Carrie Underwood. This marks American Idol season four winner Underwood’s second season as a judge, while Richie and Bryan have been judges since 2018.

However, a host was not announced in the video.

Ryan Seacrest, the host of American Idol since its 2002 debut, was not included in the announcement.

Sources told Deadline that Seacrest is expected to return; he just doesn’t have a signed deal yet.

American Idol also confirmed Monday that the search for next season’s contestants is on, with virtual auditions across 50 states, beginning August 26.

“Those auditioning will be given the opportunity to showcase their talents face-to-face with an American Idol producer, from anywhere in America, across any official audition date for a chance to proceed to the judge auditions,” ABC noted.

In this part of the talent search, called “Idol Across America,” there will also be virtual, nationwide open call dates throughout September for singers. There are also open calls in different states next month.

If singers pass the open call, they’ll be invited to audition in-person for the trio of judges. From there, contestants who receive a golden ticket from the judges move onto the next round of auditions, also known as “Hollywood Week.” Singers are eliminated during the process, typically leaving about two dozen to compete during live shows, though the process does ebb and flow from season to season.

The next season of American Idol won’t air until 2026. The show moved from Fox to ABC in 2018, making the next season the ninth on ABC.

Is Luke Bryan Leaving American Idol? Season 23 Judges

When Carrie Underwood joined the show in 2024, she replaced Katy Perry as a judge. Before her exit, the “California Girls” singer was on the judging panel for seven seasons.

American Idol remains a solid performer for ABC, with the 2025 season averaging about 7.3 million cross-platform viewers over five weeks, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Many now-famous faces entered the music business after winning American Idol over the years, including Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, Jordin Sparks, and Fantasia Barrino. However, even fan-favorite contestants had major career success, including Jennifer Hudson, Adam Lambert, and Chris Daughtry.

In May, Jamal Roberts, a physical education teacher from Mississippi, was crowned the season 23 winner of American Idol. At the time, he secured the majority of the 26 million votes cast.

A Tragic Loss Inspires a Healing Song

In July 2016, country music artist Craig Morgan faced an unimaginable tragedy: the sudden loss of his 19-year-old son, Jerry Greer, in a heartbreaking tubing accident on Kentucky Lake in Tennessee. Overwhelmed by grief, Craig found solace in a moment he describes as divinely inspired. Awaking at 2:30 a.m., he was struck by a melody and a full chorus that would become “The Father, My Son, and the Holy Ghost” — a tribute that encapsulates love, loss, faith, and the unbreakable bond between a father and son.

A Song Shared with the World

Craig first introduced the song at the Grand Ole Opry in July 2019, initially viewing it as a personal moment of closure. However, country legend Ricky Skaggs, who was watching backstage, encouraged Craig to continue performing and sharing the song. Shortly after, Craig released it on iTunes, unaware that it would resonate widely as an anthem for those experiencing grief.

Blake Shelton, a longtime friend of Craig, was so moved by the track that he initiated a campaign on Twitter, urging fans to download it and elevate it on the charts, even if it meant surpassing his own music. Over several days, Blake rallied the country music community, helping Craig’s song reach #1 on both the iTunes Country and All-Genre charts. He tweeted, “Congratulations @cmorganmusic. This one’s for Jerry.”

Craig responded with heartfelt appreciation, stating, “Blake Shelton, you are an awesome friend and champion for country music. We love ya, and I cannot thank you enough.”

In one of the most emotional moments in daytime television, Craig Morgan performed the song live on *The Kelly Clarkson Show*, with Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson, and actress Eva Mendes by his side, all visibly moved. As Craig sang, the studio fell silent, tears streaming down Blake’s and Kelly’s faces. By the final note, the audience was on its feet, marking a moment that transcended entertainment — a powerful reminder of music’s ability to connect, heal, and affirm that we are not alone.

Carrie Underwood eyes American Idol EXIT over pay drama and mom guilt: Report

Carrie Underwood eyes American Idol exit over pay drama and mom guilt—demands more or she’s walking away for good

Carrie Underwood is reportedly questioning her return to American Idol for a second season as a judge. According to sources cited by Star Magazine, the country music superstar has expressed uncertainty about continuing in the high-pressure role—despite her legacy as the show’s most successful alum.

Now 42, Underwood has made it clear to producers that she is not fully committed to coming back. One insider shared that she has voiced concerns to network bosses and hasn’t yet decided if it’s worth the effort.

Carrie Underwood Disses Artists Who Don't Sound Like Themselves

Underwood, who won Idol back in 2005, stepped into the judging role recently and faced a mixed reception. While fans enjoyed her honest critiques and star power, the position reportedly took a toll behind the scenes.

Motherhood and money factor into Carrie’s hesitation

The Grammy winner and mother of two with former NHL player Mike Fisher has openly discussed the difficulty of balancing her career with family life. She once admitted that she feels guilty about nearly every parenting decision she makes. That ongoing struggle has played a big part in her indecision.

Producers did their best to accommodate her schedule, even allowing dedicated family time during filming. That flexibility was seen as a major perk for Underwood, said the insider.

But there’s another factor reportedly stirring tension—money. Katy Perry, who previously held the judging seat, was paid around $25 million for her role. Underwood, however, was reportedly offered less than half of that. Sources say the pay gap has left the Before He Cheats singer feeling undervalued.

There’s ongoing chatter that Underwood may be using her uncertain future as leverage for a more lucrative deal. The insider noted that she’s had a rocky time on set, and without a better offer, she may feel the position just isn’t worth the stress.

While fans continue to wonder about Underwood’s fate on the show, insiders say producers are also left guessing. The network is reportedly eager to secure her return but hasn’t received a firm commitment.

Adding to the pressure, producers understand that Underwood’s involvement brings prestige and credibility to the show. However, they may also need to weigh whether keeping her on board is feasible if her heart isn’t fully in it.

For now, Carrie Underwood remains in limbo. She’s a music icon and a busy mother, facing the kind of high-stakes decision that even American Idol hopefuls can relate to—choosing between passion, pressure, and personal peace.

Whether or not she returns next season, fans will be watching closely. And if her next move includes stepping away, it won’t be without reason.

[SO SAD] Carrie Underwood Is Afraid To Return For American Idol Season 24 After A Miserable Season

I Think Carrie Underwood Is Afraid To Return For American Idol Season 24 After A Miserable Season

American Idol season 23 was a difficult run, especially for new judge Carrie Underwood, who I think is likely afraid to return for the next season of the series after heated fan backlash. Throughout American Idol season 23, Carrie faced scrutiny that was both warranted and unwarranted. Viewers struggled to understand how Carrie fit into the judging role, especially after Katy Perry’s big personality left a larger hole than she was able to fill. While Carrie’s a previous American Idol winner, it seemed that she didn’t anticipate how much would go into judging the competition she once ran away with.

Carrie struggling through her time on American Idol wasn’t her fault alone, but the blame fell on her quickly. While her fellow judges Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie have been part of the show since the series reboot in 2018, the long-time judges didn’t appear to help her ease into her new role, and there were reports that the trio didn’t have a great dynamic. Despite knowing that things were going to be rough during the transition, Carrie’s time as a judge played worse than expected. I’d be afraid to come back, too, if I’d faced the reception Carrie did.

Carrie’s First American Idol Season Wasn’t Ideal

She Faced A Ton Of Backlash

Although Idol used to welcome new judges almost seasonally after its first stretch of seasons, the reboot had the same trio of judges from the start until Katy’s departure after American Idol season 22. Despite the fact that viewers knew Katy was going to be leaving the show, it was a tough blow to longtime fans of the series who had grown to enjoy her quirky, over-the-top style. Katy’s ability to be a fun judge who gave valuable feedback was impressive, and when Carrie stepped into the role, it was clear she was going to need to make an impression.

Unfortunately, Carrie’s first season judging American Idol became less of a positive experience than anticipated. As the first former winner to join the American Idol judge’s panel, Carrie seemed like she would have a different level of knowledge than the others, but she had a hard time figuring out who she was as a judge. Throughout the season, Carrie was scrutinized by viewers who didn’t enjoy the way she was presenting herself. Others called her out for allegedly micro-aggressive behavior to Lionel and contestants of color, while some simply didn’t enjoy the energy she brought to American Idol season 23.

Carrie’s Judging Style Never Fully Developed

She Wasn’t Sure How To Critique

While Carrie seemed like she was getting off to the right foot in the first episodes of the season and developing her voice as a judge, it quickly became clear that she didn’t know how to keep herself consistent. In some moments, Carrie felt like she was going to be a tough judge, giving feedback on technical issues with the performances and pointing out small mistakes to the contestants. Carrie appeared to be holding the contestants accountable for things that the others may have let slide, or at least left out of their public critique on American Idol’s live shows.

In other moments, however, it felt like Carrie was potentially a bit too soft to be a judge. From moments where she overstepped her boundaries to try and give empowering advice to a young mother to other moments where she let her emotions lead her critiques, Carrie seemed like she wasn’t able to give technical criticisms when they needed to be said. With Carrie toeing the line between soft and serious, it was clear throughout the season that she didn’t define her voice or who she was as an Idol judge. Carrie’s voice went undeveloped, and may stay that way.

Carrie’s Shared A Lot Of Ambiguous News About Next Season

She Has Yet To Confirm She’ll Return

American Idol's Carrie Underwood with a serious expression

After American Idol season 23 came to a close, the backlash over Carrie’s performances was still louder than usual, or at least louder than it had been in past seasons of the series once the winner was crowned. When asked about whether or not she’d be returning to Idol, Carrie didn’t give a clear answer. While it’s possible she doesn’t have a real answer, Carrie’s inconsistencies in her answers were more concerning than the fact that she didn’t provide any solid direction. Carrie didn’t sound like she was interested in returning, which was more of a concern than anything concrete.

While Carrie was open about the fact that Idol was a new experience for her, the criticisms she faced throughout the season were harsh. I will admit I’m not entirely certain what kind of critique Carrie has faced in the music industry for her past releases, but I feel certain that the backlash she received appearing on Idol was a lot worse than the criticism she’s faced as a country artist. While Carrie’s music has certainly been criticized, the fact that she was being critiqued on a personal level was likely alarming enough to keep her uncertain about another season.

Carrie’s Afraid Of Having Another Bad Idol Season

The Bad Press Isn’t Worth The Payoff

While I’m not sure if I want to see her back, I think Carrie’s likely afraid about the idea of returning to American Idol for another season because of how much backlash she faced after her first time on the show in a judging role. Though Carrie had some great moments throughout American Idol season 23 and revisited her time as a contestant throughout the season, it doesn’t seem like something she’d want to put herself through again. With the end of the season appearing to be a struggle for Carrie, I don’t think a return is in the cards.

Though I don’t know what the future holds, if I were in Carrie’s position, I wouldn’t want to come back for another run at the judge’s panel, either. Getting blamed for a lot of the issues on American Idol season 23 couldn’t have been easy, and unless there are substantial changes coming to American Idol season 24, I don’t think it would be worth it to put herself in the line of fire. Carrie may not have been the best American Idol judge there’s ever been, but her unique point of view was worth a try on this season’s panel.
