Reba McEntire fights back tears and gets ‘choked up’ as The Voice contestant reveals meaning behind song choice

REBA McEntire has fought back tears after hearing an emotional story from a contestant on The Voice.

Fans have predicted that the country music superstar will win Season 25 with her stacked list of candidates.

Reba, 68, fought back tears during blind auditions on this week’s episode of The Voice after hearing a heartfelt story from a contestant.

The Queen of Country slammed her buzzer while listening to 16-year-old William Alexander’s performance of the song Ceilings.

After he finished his audition, the Staten Island native revealed that he chose the track in honor of his grandfather who died last year.

“Singing that song, I was actually singing it for my grandfather who passed away last year.

“He always said that he believed in me and it’s just crazy being here now,” William explained, tearing up while on stage.

Reba then spoke up, asking the teen if he was really “thinking of his grandfather” during his song.

“Cause when I’m singing a song and I’m thinking about my mama my voice gets real high like that,” she joked, imitating a crying whimpering sound.

“Then I start gasping and then I can’t sing anymore. How did you do that?” she asked.

William replied, “I just pictured him hearing this and seeing me do this. It just made me feel so proud to be here.”

“Wonderful, wonderful,” Reba gushed, adding, “You’re going to have somebody with you all the time.”

The country singer started to break down in tears as she confessed, “Now I’m getting choked up and I’m going to have to start talking very high.

“But I thought you did a great job. Your voice is a beautiful gift and I’d love to have you on my team,” she shared.

Reba then grabbed a tissue and wiped the tears out of her eyes.

    ROOTING FOR REBA!

Over the last several weeks, fans have predicted that Reba will win Season 25 of The Voice.

Ahead of the season premiere last month, NBC shared behind-the-scenes photos of The Voice coaches on Instagram.

In the collection, Reba posed with singer John Legend, 45; rapper Chance the Rapper, 30; and country singing duo Dan Smyers, 36, and Shay Mooney, 31.

The country singer seemed to be mocking her co-stars as she spoke to them on a bullhorn.

In one of the photos in the Instagram carousel, newcomers Dan & Shay smiled widely as they sat in the red chairs.

In 2023, they joined the judge’s panel for Season 25.

Although this is the first time a pair will sit on the panel, they served as Battle Advisors on Blake Shelton’s team in 2020.

In the comments section, viewers praised Reba while sharing their concerns about the first-timers.

“Not keen on this Dan and Shay situation. Why? Who are they really?” a critic trolled.

“Yes! #TeamReba all the way!” one fan cheered.

“I’m not sure about this Dan and Shay thing,” another critic added.

“Outside of Reba, the rest is kind of meh. She’s the real deal!” another fan gushed.

“Not liking the new judges sorry,” a fourth person wrote.

“Go #TeamReba! You should have broken up that row of males and put Reba in the middle! She looks outnumbered! However, she’s pretty feisty! So I’m not worried!” a commentator chimed.

The new season of The Voice began February 26 on NBC and streams on Peacock.

On August 11, “The Voice” Instagram and TikTok accounts shared a funny video of Horan and Bublé giving a popular TikTok trend a try.

In the video, Bublé starts with an introduction — and a warning.

“My friend Niall Horan is coming back to coach season 28 of ‘The Voice,’” Bublé said. “He’s been gone a few years. He’s gonna tell you how he feels about it because he’s a little nervous.”

The singer added, “And you better be nice. Go ahead, Niall.”

Horan stepped forward to speak, with Bublé continuing to look stern behind him.

“Yeah, you know, I’m coming back as a coach,” Horan explained. “I took a year out to go on tour, and I’m not sure how I feel about coming back. You know, it’s a nerve-wracking experience to come back, and I’m not sure if anyone’s going to want to be on my team.”

He continued, sharing his worries about coaching. “Are my pitching skills going to be up to standard? Yeah, in a way, I kind of wish I didn’t take a year out because I would have just been on a roll, but it is nerve-wracking, you know? It’s not easy,” he explained.

Fans, of course, fully support Horan’s return, with one writing, “Missed him!!! So happy he’s back!!!”

“Love you both so much 😍 but #TeamNiall forever,” another fan commented.

Others noted, “Love all the TikTok trends Niall’s been doing recently,” “C’mon we can only be nice to Niall always,” and “Awww who couldn’t be nice to this cute guy.”

Horan and Bublé join Reba McEntire and Snoop Dogg as “The Voice” season 28 coaches. The show’s social media accounts have shown the new team in action and having a bit of fun.

In an August 5 Instagram post, McEntire jokingly threatened Bublé, telling him, “I run things around here. I’m gonna keep my eye on you, okay?”

Bublé looked terrified of her threat, then the video cut to some of McEntire’s iconic moments, such as being carried onto set wearing a crown and sash, yelling through a ‘Team Reba’ megaphone, nibbling on tater tots, dancing, and having fun.

One fan noted, “I love her so much.”

Another commented, “The Queen is back! 👑🔥😍 Bublé is in trouble 😅 So excited for the fun and drama among Reba, Niall and Snoop 😍.”

Reba’s ‘Happy’s Place’ Drops ‘The Voice’ Joke: ‘Don’t Know Anything About Judging a Talent Contest’

Happy’s Place found a way to joke about Reba McEntire‘s coaching gig on fellow NBC series The Voice.

During the Friday, January 3, episode of the hit sitcom, Bobbie (McEntire) and Gabby (Melissa Peterman) compete to see who will emcee for the Tavern’s anniversary party. Bobbie asked Emmett (Rex Linn, McEntire’s real-life boyfriend) for help, prompting a surprising, hilarious response.

“I realize you don’t know anything about judging a talent contest,” Emmett quipped. “But decisions should be made on talent and talent alone.”

He added: “That is what America expects and that is what America deserves.”

Before McEntire, 69, joined Happy’s Place, she was briefly a judge on America’s Got Talent in 2016. She later served as a coach on The Voice after Blake Shelton‘s exit in 2023. The country music star enjoyed some success during her seasons 24 to 26 tenure, and ended up winning with Asher HaVon in 2024.

McEntire’s new series, which premiered in October, has made some not-so-subtle references to her other onscreen roles. The show follows Bobbie as she inherits her father’s restaurant and discovers a new business partner in the half-sister (Belissa Escobedo), who she didn’t know she had.

In addition to series creator Kevin Abbott‘s past involvement with McEntire’s Reba sitcom, Peterman, 53, also starred on the show. Their former Reba costar Steve Howey recently scored a guest role on Happy’s Place.

“Kevin had this idea for this character ahead of time. And then he was like, ‘What if Howey would do it? That would be really great to get a reunion going.’ I fit the character description so he gave me a call,” Howey, 47, recalled during an interview with Us Weekly in December 2024. “The planets just aligned on this one.”

Howey’s appearance as Danny featured several Easter eggs referencing his time playing Van on Reba.

“Those little wink and nods are really cool for the audience,” he shared. “The line that I did give was the first time I walked in when Reba was drawing on Melissa’s picture and she made a mustache. I say, ‘Hey, nice mustache.’ She turns around and says, ‘Wish I could say the same about yours.’ But that was my line to Reba — and that’s how cool Reba is. I can pitch something and she’s like, ‘I’ll try it.’”

The actor said he was glad Danny didn’t become a copy and paste version of Van.

“Van is obviously different because I was so different. I was a lot younger, a lot more naive and a lot more fresh. It was my first series regular job so it was very new. Now after 20 some years, I can bring different experiences to the characters that I play,” he explained. “Also the character relationships — because Happy’s Place is a new thing — are different. Yes, it’s Reba Melissa, but the characters are different. Bobbie is a lot different than Reba. Gabby is a lot different than Barbara Jean and Danny’s obviously different.”

He continued: “This guy owns his own business. He has money and he’s playing this game. Like you said, Danny was onto them the whole time. … They have something special [with Happy’s Place] that just makes sense and Reba has another lightning in the bottle show.”

Happy’s Place airs Fridays at 8 pm on NBC.

The second season of Tim Allen’s Shifting Gears just got a major update.

According to Collider, filming is set to begin on the sophomore season of the ABC sitcom on Aug. 19.

Live studio audience tickets are apparently already distributed for the taping of the premiere episode. Confirmation of the start date comes less than a month after the Disney-owned network unveiled premiere dates for the fall 2025 schedule. Shifting Gears is set to return on Oct. 1, leaving less than two months until the new season premieres.

Premiering in January, Shifting Gears also stars Kat Dennings, Seann William Scott, Daryl “Chill” Mitchell, Maxwell Simkins, and Barrett Margolis and is created by Julie Thacker Scully and Mike Scully. The series centers on a widower who runs an auto restoration shop and reluctantly takes in his estranged daughter and her two children.

ABC renewed Shifting Gears in April, which wasn’t a surprise. The premiere set an audience record for ABC, bringing in nearly 17 million multi-platform viewers in the first seven days across ABC, Hulu, Hulu on Disney+, and digital platforms.

It was the most-watched series debut on the network since The Conners in 2018 and the most-watched streaming debut to date. Now that The Conners is done, ABC seems to have found the perfect replacement. And it doesn’t help that it has some sitcom veterans.

As of now, not too much has been revealed about what Season 2 will consist of. Season 1 ended on some pretty big developments, including Matt and Eve sharing a kiss and Riley deciding to divorce her husband. Gabriel also tried to express his feelings for Riley, who ended up passing out mid-confession. Seeing how that all plays out should be interesting to see, and luckily, fans won’t have to wait too much longer.

With filming starting soon on Shifting Gears Season 2, it might only be a matter of time before more information is revealed. Fans will have to settle for watching the first season on Hulu and wait until Season 2 finally premieres on Wednesday, Oct. 1 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC, streaming the next day on Hulu.

Also premiering on Oct. 1 will be Season 5 of Abbott Elementary and a new episode of The Golden Bachelor. ABC’s fall season kicks off on Sept. 16 with Dancing With the Stars and High Potential.

From Soap Opera Star to “Essentially Homeless”: The Young and the Restless Actor Shares His Shocking After He Was Let Go From CBS Show

ABC Actor Reveals He Was ‘Essentially Homeless’ After He Was Let Go From CBS Show

Gibson previously had a recurring role as Noah Newman on The Young and the Restless.

Rory Gibson is opening up about a difficult time in his life, revealing that he was “essentially homeless” after his departure from The Young and the Restless hit around the same time as the 2023 SAG/AFTRA strikes.

The actor, who took over as Michael Corinthos on General Hospital from Chad Duell in May, revealed to co-star Maurice Benard during Monday’s episode of Bernard’s State of Mind podcast that he and his fiancée, Alicia Ruela, were forced to couch-surf “for almost a year.”

“Things got real, real bumpy for a while because we hit the strikes. I’ve never shared this publicly, but me and my fiancée were essentially homeless,” Gibson said on the podcast.

While Gibson originally graduated from a contracted role to a recurring role on The Young and the Restless as Noah Newman, he stopped being called in for the CBS soap opera at the worst possible time.

Having booked a “small role” in Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire and testing for “these big projects,” Gibson said he felt like he was “on the right road” before the strikes hit and productions shut down.

“Simultaneously, I’m not getting called in for Y&R anymore. So, all of a sudden, everything goes dry,” he continued. “I already wasn’t making a ton of money. It got to a point where [Ruela] was modeling professionally, and that dried up too. Neither of us were making any money, and we couldn’t afford a rent, and we had to bounce out.”

After almost a year of couch-surfing, Gibson said he got his feet back under him in 2024 after getting a trainer job at Barry’s Bootcamp. The actor said it was “like [he] was resetting in a strange way,” and that as the entertainment industry began to pick up after the strikes, “life got kind of comfortable again.”

While the time was a difficult chapter in his career, Gibson said it helped him further accept life as an actor. “I’m pursuing the thing that I love and that I want to do, and that I want to make something out of my life with, and I want to enjoy what I do while simultaneously having to accept the fact that it’s going to come with a lot of trials and tribulations,” he said.

Ultimately, Gibson wasn’t feeling “terribly fulfilled” during his time at The Young and the Restless, which he said wasn’t “the most ideal situation” for him. “Whereas now, it kind of does feel that way [at General Hospital],” he continued. “I feel extremely fulfilled.”

Reba fans were thrilled when the country music icon made her return to sitcom life with Happy’s Place. The NBC series follows Boobi, who inherits her late father’s tavern Happy’s Place, and is shocked to learn that she has a new co-owner — Isabella, is the half-sister she never knew existed.

The show has received rave reviews and will be back for a sophomore season. And it’s good for Reba McEntire, as she reunited with some of her old co-stars from the popular WB series.

    Reba McEntire

In Reba, McEntire stars as a mom of three who is shocked to learn her estranged husband got his young mistress pregnant. Instead of turning bitter, she figures out a way to make her modern family work with the ex-husband, mistress, and their blended family. In Happy’s Place, McEntre stars as Boobi.

McEntire told PEOPLE of reuniting with many of her old co-stars: “The first time we went into a table read, it was very nostalgic,” she reflected. “It was very emotional. I mean, see, I’m getting choked up right now. That’s the way it was for all of us to be so blessed. If you get one really good sitcom that lasts for six seasons, you think, ‘Man, I’ve got the golden ring. That’ll be it. Probably never do it again, because that’s magic in a bottle.’ We got it again and we realize it.”

    Melissa Peterman

Peterman starred as Barbra Jean, the other woman in Reba. Despite participating in breaking up a family,  Barbra Jean has an uncanny affinity for Reba. In Happy’s Place, Peterman stars as Gabby, a bartender at the restaurant. Of her undeniable chemistry with the show’s lead and her longtime friend, Peterman told PEOPLE: “I think what we did is we brought the chemistry that we have as real people and as real-life friends into these new characters,” she shared. “You can’t erase that. So I feel like we’re just the same people in a new play almost.”

Reba' Reunion on Happy's Place! Steve Howey Cast on Reba's New Show

    Steve Howey

In Reba, Howey starred as Reba’s son-in-law, Van Montgomery, who gets her 17-year-old daughter pregnant while trying to navigate life as a teen dad and football star. In Happy’s Place, Howey made a guest appearance as a wealthy business owner named Danny who befriends Gabby after meeting at a dog park.

    Christopher Rich

Rich starred as Brock on Reba, her ex-husband and father of her three children. In Happy’s Place, Rich guest starred as a tattoo artist named Maverick. McEntire encouraged his return to television after he recovered from a stroke.

Season 2 of Happy’s Place is coming, but there’s a frustrating update.

NBC’s initial fall schedule revealed that the Reba McEntire sitcom will not be returning in September or October like most shows on the network.

Instead, the series will be coming back in November, once again airing on Fridays to help serve as a launchpad for new comedy series. As of now, it’s unknown what the show will be paired with or when exactly Happy’s Place will premiere. Dates for the fall should be announced later this summer, but whether or not Happy’s Place will be announced then is unclear since it will be returning later than most.
HAPPY’S PLACE — Episode: Pilot — Pictured: (l-r) Melissa Peterman as Gabby,, Reba McEntire as Bobbie — (Photo by: Casey Durkin/NBC)
Starting in either September or October, Fridays will kick off with the new series On Brand with Jimmy Fallon. Since Happy’s Place and at least one other sitcom will be airing on Fridays in November, it’s likely On Brand will premiere in September, so a decent amount of episodes will air before going on break, assuming Dateline continues to air for two hours each week.

Even though it’s certainly a disappointment that fans will be waiting even longer for Happy’s Place than most shows, at least there is something to look forward to.

The sitcom was one of the first to nab an early renewal on NBC earlier this year, along with fellow newbie sitcom St. Denis Medical, which is also being held for November. NBC seems confident that Happy’s Place will help launch other new comedies, so at least there isn’t anything to worry about.
Pictured: (l-r) Steve Howey as Danny, Reba McEntire as Bobbie, Melissa Peterman as Gabby — (Photo by: Casey Durkin/NBC)
It’s possible that another reason for Happy’s Place airing later than most shows on NBC is to accommodate McEntire, who is set to return to The Voice this fall as a coach.

Although both shows air on the Universal lot, it may not always be easy to go from one show to the other every week. But at least fans will be able to watch McEntire this fall before Happy’s Place comes back.

More information on Happy’s Place Season 2, such as the premiere date and possible Reba reunions, should be revealed in the coming months, but the wait will be worth it. In the meantime, the first season is streaming on Peacock.

Reba McEntire’s Happy’s Place is back for Season 2. We’ve got an exclusive peek at what’s next for Bobbie and Isabella

Happy’s Place brings back two beloved characters in Season

NBC’s sitcom Happy’s Place is set to return for its second season, bringing back familiar faces and introducing new developments in the story. According to Collider, the upcoming season will once again feature Reba McEntire as Bobbie and Belissa Escobedo as Isabella. The show first premiered in October 2024 and quickly secured a full-season order after a strong start.

A new image from Happy’s Place Season 2, shared exclusively by Collider, shows Bobbie and Isabella away from the main setting of the series — the pub known as Happy’s Place. Instead, the scene takes place in a tidy kitchen, where the two characters are engaged in conversation.

Happy's Place brings back two beloved characters in Season

Isabella is shown smiling, while Bobbie holds a bottle of wine, suggesting the exchange may have more going on beneath the surface. Happy’s Place Season 2 will not only continue the storyline between these sisters but will also see the return of other recurring characters.

Collider reports that Melissa Peterman is back as Gabby, the pub’s bartender, and Pablo Castelblanco is likely returning as Steve, the accountant. Tokala Black Elk is also expected to reprise his role as Takoda, the waiter. The relationship between Bobbie and Emmett, played by Rex Linn, was developed in Season 1, and fans will see where it goes next.

    Bobbie and Isabella’s kitchen scene

The exclusive image released by Collider focuses on Bobbie and Isabella outside the bar setting. According to the report, Bobbie appears to be listening closely to what Isabella is saying. Isabella’s expression is lighthearted, but Bobbie’s tight grip on a wine bottle hints that the topic might be serious.

We’ve got an exclusive peek at what’s next for Bobbie and Isabella — ready for the fun?

This scene signals that Season 2 will delve deeper into the characters’ personal lives outside the pub. While the first season often centered around the dynamics within Happy’s Place, this still suggests that the show will also follow the sisters in other parts of their lives.

Collider’s preview notes that this moment is only “a sip of what’s to come,” leaving room for more family interactions in the upcoming episodes.

    Returning faces at Happy’s place

Collider confirms that several supporting characters from the first season of Happy’s Place will return. Melissa Peterman will return as Gabby, the flamboyant bartender. Pablo Castelblanco should return as Steve, the accountant who balances the books for the pub, and Tokala Black Elk is set to come back as Takoda, the waiter.

These actors had important roles during Season 1, adding to both the humor of working and the interpersonal interactions in the series. Their return ensures that Season 2 maintains the ensemble core while expanding on the established relationships from the first season run.

What to Know About Happy's Place Season 2

The report also says Rex Linn’s character, Emmett, whose bond with Bobbie developed in Season 1. Because Linn and McEntire are real-life husbands, the chemistry between their characters generated buzz in the first season. According to Collider, fans can expect this relationship to develop even more in future episodes.

Happy’s Place Season 2 premiere and episode details

Happy’s Place premiered in October 2024 and was well-received, according to Collider, which led NBC to extend its first season to a total of 18 episodes. The second season is set to premiere on Friday, November 7, 2025, with a two-episode launch. This approach will allow the new season to start with more story content right away.

The return of the show in November sets it up for the fall TV lineup, a prime time for network sitcoms. The Season 2 premiere will pick up on Season 1, bringing viewers back up to speed with Bobbie, Isabella, and the rest of the Happy’s Place staff.

Collider’s reporting indicates that the two-episode premiere will establish the tone for the season and could tie up some loose ends left at the end of last year.

Celebrity Wheel of Fortune is officially returning for another season, with Ryan Seacrest taking over hosting duties. Celebrity Wheel of Fortune Season 6 is set to premiere on September 26, 2025. Since Pat Sajak’s final season of the show was delayed from fall 2024 to spring 2025, this gives viewers the chance to enjoy the competition twice this year. Seacrest will, of course, be joined by longtime Wheel of Fortune host Vanna White for the latest installment in the celebrity version of the game show.

While ABC announced the renewal of the series in May 2025, it wasn’t until recently that the network confirmed Seacrest as the host. The lineup for Celebrity Wheel of Fortune Season 6 has not been announced yet. However, contestants will have the chance to win up to $1 million for their chosen charity. Similar to past seasons of the show, the lineup is expected to include a mix of comedians, actors, musicians, and athletes.

The news comes shortly after Seacrest ended his first season of Wheel of Fortune on a high note on June 6, 2025. Despite struggling to find its footing initially, the show averaged 7.39 million viewers and saw an increase of 74,000 viewers compared to the previous year. As reported by Variety, Wheel of Fortune was the only syndicated game show to post growth, and one of only two syndicated series to increase from year to year.

Ryan Seacrest Reveals How Hard It Was To Fill Pat Sajak’s Shoes

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Seacrest shared how he handled the responsibility of hosting one of the most iconic game shows of all time. The TV presenter added that he grew up watching Wheel of Fortune. Seacrest recalled mowing lawns in his hometown to save money and buy a Zenith TV for the kitchen so his family could watch the game show together.

Despite knowing the show inside out, though, hosting it requires a lot more preparation than he thought. The American Idol presenter revealed that he made flashcards for himself and even had a travel-sized wheel created for him to practice with before filming. Seacrest noted that the conversation about him taking over had been initiated years before it actually happened. “I expressed interest even back then,” claimed Seacrest. While talking about why he wanted to host the show, he admitted that he admired Sajak and White’s legacy and only wanted to take it forward.

Seacrest confessed that, as great as his experience has been, it isn’t all smooth sailing. “It can get physical,” Seacrest revealed while talking about how excited certain guests are. The host joked that many of them take the liberty to throw him around, but he understands that it’s all because of the high-energy environment. While talking about the legacy of Wheel of Fortune, the host believes that the show has remained a staple in American homes because of its unchanging simplicity. “It’s a safe place for fun,” he added.

Episodes of Wheel of Fortune are available to stream on Hulu and Peacock.

‘Killer’ grandma’s eerie Wheel of Fortune appearance before ‘plot to murder ex-son in law & arrest trying to flee USA’

DECADES before she was hit with murder charges, a grandmother gushed about taking care of her family in a now-disturbing appearance on Wheel of Fortune.

Donna Adelson, 75, is accused of helping her son Charlie plot to gun down his sister Wendi Adelson’s ex-husband Dan Markel in 2014.

In November 2023, Charlie was found guilty of murdering Markel in the victim’s driveway outside his Tallahassee, Florida, home.

The dad was killed after he was granted shared custody of Wendi’s two preschool-aged children following a nasty divorce.

Wendi had challenged the ruling as she wanted to move away from Tallahassee and closer to her family, but the judge wouldn’t let her.

Charlie, his ex-girlfriend, and two guns-for-hire have been found guilty of murdering the dad.

Now, Adelson is fighting accusations that she masterminded the entire plot.

Years before the grandmother was cuffed as she was boarding a one way flight to Vietnam, she starred on an episode of Wheel of Fortune.

In 1986, Adelson joined a panel of three people to solve puzzles and earn some prize money.

When she was asked to introduce herself by host Pat Sajak, the much-younger mom described herself as a “domestic coordinator.”

Adelson explained that she was responsible for the “activities, classes, and lessons” of her three children, then aged from 16 to 10.

Later in the show, the mom quickly shouted a now-eerie phrase to solve one of the puzzles.

“Mischief-maker,” she yelled as she added $2,100 to her jackpot.

    TRIAL LOOMS

Adelson has maintained her innocence, despite the court already securing four other convictions related to the murder.

Her trial has been delayed over mental health concerns, but jury selection is finally set to begin on August 19.

In a pretrial hearing on Friday, the defense and prosecutors argued over whether state attorneys can include information from two jailhouse interviews, Court TV reported.

Adelson’s lawyers want the investigators who spoke to the informants to be barred from testifying.

The defense attorneys also wish to suppress evidence that shows the disgraced grandmother was trying to flee the country when she was boarding her flight.

However, the judge ultimately decided that the evidence is fine to present in court as long as it’s introduced appropriately.

    LOCKED UP

Charlie is currently serving life in prison without parole.

His ex-girlfriend Katherine Magbanua, is also serving a life sentence, plus two additional 30-year sentences.

Magbanua hired Sigfredo Garcia, who is the mother of her two children, to commit the murder.

Garcia enlisted the help of his childhood friend Luis Rivera.

Garcia was sentenced to life in prison, and Rivera is serving a 19-year sentence after pleading guilty to second-degree murder.
