Throughout its 27-season run, ‘The Voice has been a safe haven for aspiring singers, regardless of their race, age, or nationality. In one amazing moment, a Filipino singer went on to secure the victory, making for a remarkable ‘The Voice’ moment. However, it was his tragic family story that grabbed major attention. While most of the details about his family life are under wraps, the singer did share about the awful event, calling it “very tragic, very tragic.”

The winner in the discussion is Sofronio Vasquez, who came out on top of ‘The Voice’ Season 26. Notably, Vasquez’s victory brought the end of a difficult, private journey for the Philippine immigrant. Just two weeks earlier, during the live shows, coach Michael Bublé brought attention to Vasquez’s struggle, saying, “Nobody in the whole universe besides you and your family knows what you’re going through.” Bublé commended Vasquez’s resilience and strength, adding, “If they understood the strength it took for you to overcome all of this adversity and still take the brass ring, they’d be astounded,” per Lyndsanity.

Soon after winning the show, Vasquez slightly opened up about the challenges he had been quietly facing throughout the season. Vasquez spoke cautiously, hinting at a deeply painful past. He said, “Michael Bublé is very careful about telling everyone what his story is. But I guess I want to say that story is not friendly, as everyone could ever hear.” He continued, “I had the saddest and the weirdest story, but it’s very tragic. Very tragic.” He didn’t go into detail but offered a hint, explaining, “The only thing that I could say is that it’s political.”

Still, Vasquez found light in his victory, adding, “But I am here, and now that I am able to win ‘The Voice,’ people up above, I would say ‘people,’ because they are many, and now they’re just angels, I know that they’re very, very happy with the situation, knowing the fact that I am able to bring a little justice for the family.” Reportedly, Vasquez grew up in the Philippines with limited means but a deep love for music, thanks to his father, whom he calls his first coach. Though he initially pursued a career in dentistry, the tragic loss of his father rekindled his passion for singing. In tribute to him, Vasquez returned to music, gaining attention through viral covers on social media, which ultimately led him to ‘The Voice’ stage, per NBC.

Vasquez made a strong impression in ‘The Voice’ Season 26 and earned a 4-Chair Turn in the Blind Auditions with ‘I’m Goin’ Down.’ He end up choosing Michael Bublé as his coach and went on to win his battle round with ‘The Power of Love.’ Vasquez triumphed in the knockouts with ‘You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me.’ In the playoffs, he impressed with ‘Crying’ and secured his place in the finals after performing ‘If I Can Dream’ and ‘Every Breath You Take’ in the live shows.

The Voice’ season 27 concluded on a smashing note with Adam David lifting the trophy. NBC is now gearing up to launch a follow-up season of the singing competition. According to Entertainment Now, filming for the new season is set to begin in July 2025. Michael Bublé will be returning as a coach for a third consecutive year. Joining him on the panel are Snoop Dogg, Reba McEntire, and fan favorite Niall Horan. The blind auditions will be taped twice a day for 4 days in July, as per the outlet. The blinds will be taped on July 6, 7, 8, and 9 at the show’s soundstage in Universal City.

The audition will be conducted in two groups every day, with each group of Blind Auditions being filmed in front of a different audience. The first group’s audition will start at 11 am, and the next will commence at 3 pm. As per the outlet, the tickets to the July 6 tapings are already booked, but tickets are available for other time slots. The chances of taping auditions for season 29 taking place sometime this year are highly likely. As ‘The Voice’ has opted for back-to-back tapings in recent years. John Legend, who recently wrapped his 10th season, explained the changed taping format of the show.

In February, the ‘All of Me’ singer appeared on ‘The Kelly Clarkson Show’ and revealed that “the way they are taping these days, we do two seasons per, like, summer and early fall.” Legend further quipped, “So even when you’re away, you’re really not away.” However, there’s been no confirmation on season 29 taping so far. As for the forthcoming season, it’s expected to air on Tuesday, September 16, as per Deadline. Before ‘The Voice’ season 28 premieres, NBC will air the season finale of ‘America’s Got Talent’ season 20. The new season of the singing competition will follow the usual premiere format of the show and will air two-hour episodes on Monday and Tuesday.

The fans of ‘The Voice’ are thrilled by the new judges’ panel for the forthcoming season, especially for Niall Horan’s return. “SCREAMING BECAUSE THIS IS THE MOST ICONIC GROUP YET!!!!” one fan commented on Instagram. “Niall Horan & Michael Bublé on THE SAME season was notttt on my 2025 bingo card!!! Eek! This is very yay!!!” a second social media user wrote. Bublé, who’s set to return to the show for the third time, opened up about his comeback. Speaking to PEOPLE, the ‘Spicy Margarita’ singer said he’s excited to return to the show.

“This is the best job I’ve ever had. Going to work every day is a joy, and I’m so thrilled to be back for Season 28,” he told the outlet. The singer revealed that becoming a successful singer was his dream come true. Hence, helping the contestants fulfill their dreams gives him immense joy. “I get to be a part of helping someone else in their journey to do that same thing; there’s nothing better. It is really fulfilling,” he added.

A First Look at Blake Shelton’s New Singing Competition ‘The Road’—Featuring Gretchen Wilson and Keith Urban

Over the years, singing competitions like American Idol, The Voice, and even America’s Got Talent offered aspiring artists the chance at a career in the music industry. For the most part, each show seemed to follow the same outline. Each week the singers would take the stage and perform a hit song.

If they were good enough, they advanced. For those who struggled to win over the judges or fans, they ended up going home. Now, a new show, The Road, from CBS, looked to offer a different type of competition that saw contestants going on tour with none other than Blake Shelton, Gretchen Wilson, and Keith Urban.

See Why Blake Shelton Just Compared Wife Gwen Stefani to Dolly Parton

Meeting on set of The Voice in 2014, Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani struck up a friendship. That friendship blossomed into much more, with the pair tying the knot in 2021. Fans have closely watched their love story unfold over the past decade, with the “Boys Round Here” crooner, 48, never missing an opportunity to sing his wife’s praises. Most recently, Shelton drew parallels between the “Hollaback Girl” singer, 55, and the “Queen of Country,” Dolly Parton.

What Blake Shelton Has Learned From Gwen Stefani

Faith is a crucial part of Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani’s marriage. The former No Doubt frontwoman has spoken about how she relied on her Christian faith during various life challenges, including her divorce from rocker Gavin Rossdale.

“For me, I was turning to my faith right away,” Stefani said during a 2021 appearance on Today. “That was a seed that my mom planted in me when I was a little girl … it’s a journey. It’s almost like you get lost, it’s like you get lost on your journey. We all do, and we all will, and I will again at some point, I’m sure.”

For Shelton, meeting Stefani marked a turning point in his relationship with God. “I’ve learned so much from her and she’s really the person that’s helped me get in touch with my faith and get serious about it and not just something that you say at an awards show, you know?” he told Kelleigh Bannen of Today’s Country Radio.

Continuing, the five-time Entertainer of the Year said, “She reminds me to think about it all day long. When you’re around her, everything she sees, she sees God in it. And it’s really special to be around her, because her faith is alive.”

Gwen Stefani Has an Inner Radiance Comparable to This Country Star

Bannen assured Blake Shelton that other people notice Gwen Stefani’s inner light as well. The “Sorry on the Rocks” singer compared Stefani to women like Dolly Parton and Kimberly Schlapman of Little Big Town.

All of them, she noted, “are almost, like, lit from within.”

Shelton agreed about Schlapman, saying, “I don’t think I’ve ever seen with her without a smile from ear to ear. She’s just an incredible person. Dolly, obviously… but Gwen has that too. She just has that.”

What This SHIFTING GEARS Star Expects from Season 2

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA – JUNE 23: Kat Dennings attends the Marvel Studios “Thor: Love And Thunder” Los Angeles Premiere at El Capitan Theatre on June 23, 2022 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo by Jon Kopaloff/Getty Images)
The fall TV season is almost here, and SHIFTING GEARS star Kat Dennings shared her hopes for Season 2.

“I hope we see Riley do some exploration of who she is now because she doesn’t really know who she is now without the ex-husband relationship and back living at home as a mom with two kids and have her discover her personality without the things that she is used to. I think that would be cool,” Dennings, who plays Riley on the show, said when discussing her hopes for the second season.

The series follows Tim Allen’s character Matt, “a widower who owns a classic car shop,” whose estranged daughter, Riley, turns up unexpectedly with her two kids.

“Down on her luck, broke and needing a little help while she figures out what her future is going to look like, Riley and her kids take up residence in Matt’s home as they put the pieces of both her life and their parent-child relationship back together,” a synopsis from For Women First reads.

SHIFTING GEARS was one of the most popular sitcoms in the spring, ranking among ABC’s top five scripted shows. The first season ended with a major event which has the potential to carry through all of Season 2 and beyond. Apart from this storyline, Dennings shared that there are multiple other plots that the show could follow, giving her hope that it will carry on for years to come.

“I think the beauty of this is that I can conceive [multiple seasons of the show],” she said. [Riley] might end up there for five seasons or maybe in Season 3 she does move out. Who knows. [My brother on the show] is in the military and will come in hopefully in future seasons. And then there’s that whole dynamic with who he is. Where’s he going to live? So there could be just unlimited ways to go with this. I’m really looking forward to that.”

These comments from Dennings are exciting as the show’s family nature makes it so appealing for audiences. Having two kids on the show helps it appeal to multiple generations, giving families the chance to watch it together. A portion of Movieguide®’s review reads:

The pilot episode of SHIFTING GEARS teaches strong positive values. It stresses the importance of family, love, forgiveness, and reconciliation. Also, father uses an overt winsome reference to Jesus when discussing life with his teenage grandson. Despite their differences, the grandfather and his daughter still love each other and want the best for one another. They also bond over the loss of their wife/mom and remember her as a remarkable woman who kept the family together. However, the pilot episode of SHIFTING GEARS has some relatively light foul language and other issues. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for older children.

“I think the beauty of SHIFTING GEARS is it covers more than the average sitcom and dives deeper,” explained Maxwell Simkins, who plays Carter on the show. “One of the best parts of a family is when they care so much. That’s an element that I feel Tim brings to his character Matt – he cares so much, but he doesn’t know how to display it when Riley is talking about tracking and other things he can’t relate to.”

Season 2 of SHIFTING GEARS will release on ABC and stream on Hulu on Oct. 1. Compared to the 10 episodes in the first season, Season 2 is expected to bring a full slate of 20 or so episodes.

“Hello everybody,” Linn says in the video. “This is Rex Linn. I play Emmett on Happy’s Place. Coming this fall, our second season. We’re so happy about it. Our reviews are good. Ratings are great. People are watching. It’s going to be so much fun. And there’s rumors that maybe Emmett and Bobbie get together.

“I mean, we don’t know that for a fact, but it would be great for Bobbie, I mean, if she was with Emmett,” he continues, as McEntire makes faces behind him. “I mean, that’s how I look at it. It was McEntire who had the idea for Linn to join her on Happy’s Place, along with her former Reba co-star, Melissa Peterman.

“When we were working on this, they said, ‘We’re going to have a short-order cook,’ and I said, ‘That’s gotta be Rex,’” McEntire recalls on the Today Show. “We have a blast. I love it. He brings me into work. He drives us to work and then takes us home, and he’s my rehearsal coach, so I rehearse a lot.”

McEntire and Linn both live and work together, an arrangement that works surprisingly well, for both of them.

“Rex is a stickler on rehearsals,” the 70-year-old divulges on Late Night with Seth Meyers. “So we’ll wake up – every morning we have ‘Coffee Camp.’ And so, I’ll go get the coffee, and he’s got a script. I’m like, ‘Can’t we have coffee first?’”

‘Happy’s Place’ Gets an Exciting Season 2 Update — With a Twist

    HAPPY'S PLACE

After a successful debut season that featured eighteen comfy episodes, Happy’s Place was renewed for a second run as announced earlier this year. A return date was not included in the announcement at the time, but NBC has now provided one, set for this fall and with an exciting addition. Created by Kevin and Julie AbbottHappy’s Place premiered on October 18, 2024, providing viewers with 21 minutes of utter amusement every week. Season 1 concluded on March 21, 2025, but weeks before, in February, it was renewed for another exciting season.

As all networks unveil their fall schedule for scripted and unscripted programs, NBC has officially revealed that Happy’s Place Season 2 will launch on Friday, November 7 at 8/9c. That’s not all! The sitcom will return with a double-episode event, meaning viewers will get to enjoy even more time with Reba McEntire’s Bobbie McAllister and other beloved characters. In addition to the country singer, Happy’s Place stars Belissa EscobedoMelissa PetermanRex LinnPablo Castelblanco, and Tokala Black Elk, all of whom will be back for “another heartfelt, hilarious season.”

In Happy’s Place Season 1, Bobbie inherited her late father’s titular bar and was taken aback after learning she had a new co-owner, Isabella (Escobedo), who was the half-sister she never knew existed. Isabella is young, inexperienced, and has some unusual new ideas about how to run the family business, which the duo ultimately learn to co-own together. Also included in their close-knit business are the bartender Gabby (Peterman), the cook Emmett (Linn), the nicest waiter in Tennessee, Takoda (Elk), and their brilliant yet eccentric accountant Steve (Castelblanco).

Not Everyone Is a Fan of ‘Happy’s Place’

While Happy’s Place may have been worth watching to several viewers, critics had mixed opinions about the show upon its debut. On Rotten Tomatoes, it has a 73% critics’ score based on eleven reviews, a few of which are not so glowing. USA Today’s Kelly Lawler described it as “just another low-rent sitcom with stale jokes, bland characters, and a limp plot.” Similarly, The Hollywood Reporter’s Daniel Fienberg saw the series as pretty “generic” and that “does not feel like a well-established Nashville institution.” Nevertheless, other critics were not so disapproving, including Screen Rant’s Sarah Little, who opined, “Many of the jokes land, while the emotional moments tug at the heartstrings. For those reasons alone, McEntire’s new NBC sitcom is off to a good start.”

Will Reba McEntire + Rex Linn’s ‘Happy’s Place’ Characters Start Dating in Season 2?

For fans hoping for an onscreen romance between Reba McEntire and Rex Linn’s Happy’s Place characters, the finale episode of Season 1 might have been a bit of a disappointment.

Bobbie (played by McEntire) and Emmett (Linn) got close, but ultimately shied away from a relationship that might throw their longstanding friendship into jeopardy.

But it seems there’s still hope for this real-life couple to start a relationship onscreen.

In a new social media post, they threw some strong hints that their will-they-or-won’t-they dynamic will fall into the “will they” category in the show’s second season.

The video, which was filmed onset, shows Linn talking about Season 2 of Happy’s Place as McEntire looks on from the background.

“There’s rumors that maybe Emmett and Bobbie get together. We don’t know that for a fact,” he says.

“But it would be great for Bobbie if she was with Emmett,” he jokes, as McEntire makes a face of mock confusion. “I mean, that’s how I look at it.”

What Happened in Season 1 of Happy’s Place

McEntire stars as Bobbie McAllister, who just inherited a bar owned by her father “Happy.”

She then discovers that she has a half-sister named Isabella (played by Belissa Escobedo), with whom she must share ownership. Much of the humor stems from the pair’s age and cultural differences.

Linn plays Emmett, the short-order cook working at the bar.

What Have Showrunners Said About a Possible Romance Between Bobbie and Emmett?

Executive producer Kevin Abbott, who also worked on McEntire’s 2000s sitcom Reba, told US Weekly that show creators weren’t originally sure whether Happy’s Place would be picked up for enough episodes to properly build their relationship.

“We like to track these out and then build them so when we get there, it is a surprise,” he explains.

But Abbott also said that he hoped to create a romance story line for McEntire on this show, which was something he never really got to do on Reba.

“The one story we could not tell on the original show was relationships,” he reflected.

“There were love interests but the chemistry never worked,” Abbott goes on to say. “We tried a couple different times and those were horrible episodes — from my point of view. They were always very tough episodes for me because they just didn’t work well.”

Happy’s Place is well-positioned to finally give McEntire a love interest story line with chemistry, since she and Linn are a couple in real life.

The pair started dating in early 2020, just before the COVID-19 pandemic hit. Though pandemic shut-downs forced them to stay apart, they bonded over virtual coffee dates.

The couple recently celebrated their fifth anniversary.

When is Season 2 of Happy’s Place Starting?

Happy’s Place will return to NBC on Nov. 7. The show is keeping its Friday night slot, and back-to-back episodes will air on Fridays for the foreseeable future.

It’ll be a busy fall for McEntire, who is also returning as a coach on The Voice.

The hit reality TV competition resumes in September. McEntire is one of four star coaches, along with Snoop Dogg, Niall Horan and Michael Bublé.

Famous Singers from The Voice, Then + Now

Ten years (and counting) made a huge difference for many of the most popular singers and stars of The Voice. Blake Shelton looks noticeably different, but so do some of country music’s most memorable performers.

Winners like Cassadee Pope and Danielle Bradbery wore baby faces when they auditioned during their respective seasons. The same can be said for Morgan Wallen, a forgotten castmember from the show who’s transformed more than anyone else on this list of The Voice stars then and now.

‘American Idol’ & ‘The Voice’ Has Some New Competition: Blake Shelton’s Singing Reality Show Gets Premiere Date

Spending 12 years on NBC’s singing reality competition series The Voice, Blake Shelton guided up-and-coming artists on their path to stardom. Departing after 23 seasons in May 2023, the “Ol’ Red” singer, 49, appeared to retire from reality TV. However, Shelton will now tackle a different kind of singing competition on CBS’ The Road. And now, we have a release date for the show with Keith Urban and Gretchen Wilson.

‘The Road’ Premieres This Fall With Blake Shelton, Keith Urban and Gretchen Wilson

After winning 13 CMA Awards, Keith Urban knows there are some things you just have to learn from experience. That’s where The Road—premiering on CBS Sunday, Oct. 19—comes in, with Urban, Blake Shelton, and Gretchen Wilson.

Produced by Shelton and Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan, The Road follows Urban on his quest to discover the next big thing in music. Instead of a tiered competition, however, various emerging artists will headline for the “Somebody Like You” singer at music venues across America. Those artists place their faith in the audience, who determine which of them continue to the next city.

Wilson joins the cast as touring manager. “Opening for Keith is not for the faint of heart,” said the “Redneck Woman” singer in a trailer posted to social media.

“I spent a lot of my underage life playing in some seedy pubs, sometimes just for the bartender. So I love the idea of throwing artists into a real-world environment to find out if they are artists,” Urban said. “Paying your dues sucks, but there are things in this business that can’t be taught, like how to put together a set list, whether to extend or cut a song during your performance or how to work the crowd.”

“For me, touring has always been my first love,” he continued. “It’s where the rubber meets the road. But it’s the only road to take if you want to be a performer.”
