Blake Shelton Launches New Show to Compete With ‘The Voice’

Less than two years after leaving “The Voice,” where he spent 23 seasons coaching talented hopefuls on the show, country star Blake Shelton dropped a bombshell on November 11, 2024.

The country star has teamed up with “Yellowstone” creator Taylor Sheridan to create and launch a new singing competition, “The Road,” for CBS. In a press release about the new series, set to debut in the fall of 2025, Sheridan took aim at shows like “The Voice” and “American Idol,” by stating that this new competition will be more raw and real, touring the nation with rising country music stars.

“No more shiny floors and studio audiences,” he said.

‘The Road’ Will Challenge Rising Country Stars to Stay on Tour With Headliner

CBS said “The Road” will feature a “docu-follow format” as cameras chronicle the experiences of still-to-be-announced “headlining superstar” who’s trying to discover the next big music act.

“Singers will join the headliner on tour, performing as opening acts in venues across the country,” the press release said. If they win over the local fanbase in a city, they’ll get to stay on the tour and move on to the next city.

The show is a collaboration between Sheridan and his production partner, David Glassner, and Shelton with his production partner Lee Metzger, with whom he runs Lucky Horseshoe Productions. Together, Shelton and Metzger are also behind the USA Network reality competition “Barmageddon,” per the Tennessean. That show is filmed at Shelton’s Ole Red Nashville bar co-starring himself, “The Voice” host Carson Daly and former World Wrestling Entertainment star Nikki Garcia.

“I’m a big fan of Taylor’s incredible work, and I’m excited to team with him and my long-time collaborator, Lee, on ‘The Road,’” Shelton said in a press statement. “I know a thing or two about singing competitions and what it’s like to chase a music dream and live life on tour. I’m looking forward to discovering new talent and giving them this platform.”

Sheridan said, “There is a revolution taking place in country music. Building a platform with Blake for the next leaders of that revolution is an incredibly exciting venture. No more shiny floors and studio audiences. This is where the rubber meets the road – literally. Get in the van, go to the next town and win the crowd. Do it enough, and you become the next leader. Simple as that.”

CBS is the only major network that hasn’t had a hit singing competition over the last decade. “The Voice” airs on NBC, “American Idol” is on ABC, and “The Masked Singer” is on FOX.

Blake Shelton Said He Felt Himself ‘Going Through the Motions’ on ‘The Voice’

Blake Shelton, Gwen StefaniGetty GettyBlake Shelton speaks with wife Gwen Stefani by his side, as she received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on October 19, 2023.

In April, Shelton told Entertainment Tonight that though he missed the people he worked with at “The Voice,” the formula of the show after 23 seasons began to feel monotonous, saying that he didn’t “miss the job at all.”

“I totally needed a break from that, because if I wasn’t into it then it wasn’t good for whoever was on my team,” Shelton said. “I don’t want to be someone who’s just going through the motions. Those artists need somebody fighting for them.”

He continued, “The second I started feeling like, ‘Oh my gosh, I don’t even remember what season this is anymore. Who are the coaches on this season?’ [I knew that] I needed [to get] away from here.”

But his wife, Gwen Stefani, has remained part of the show since his departure. She’s currently serving as a coach on her eight season of “The Voice,” which is midway through season 26. Stefani joined the show during season 7 and returned intermittently for seasons 9, 12, 17, 19, 22 and 24, per Deadline.

She and Shelton famously met and fell in love on the show after their marriages to other stars — Shelton to Miranda Lambert and Stefani to Gavin Rossdale — both ended in divorce in 2015, per Billboard.

Shelton did return to “The Voice” in May to commemorate the show’s 25th season along with other past coaches. In September, he surprised fans by leaving his longtime record label and signing with BBR Music Group, the company that works with winners and finalists from “American Idol.”

The show’s Super Save rule change brought back four previously eliminated artists to perform in the semifinals, before cutting down 12 contestants to just five who will battle it out in the final.

Four of the Top 5 Artists were revealed at the beginning of the episode.

Renzo who is on John Legend’s team; Lucia Flores-Wiseman who is on Adam Levine’s team; Jadyn Cree who is on Michael Buble’s team; and Jaelen Johnston who is on Kelsea Ballerini’s team made it through.

The Top 5 was then rounded out by Adam David who joined Team Buble, after he won the Instant Save.

But with 12 whittled down to five, seven were brutally axed, leaving fans devastated.

Most fans were fuming over one singer’s departure – Bryson.

“How did Bryson not make top 5 and still didn’t get saved? He’s top 2,” said one fuming fan on Instagram.

Another slammed: “BRYSON AND CONOR SHOULD BOTH BE IN THE TOP 5 – WHAT ARE YOU DOING, AMERICA?!”

“I’m over this new format and I don’t care who wins anymore. I’ll find out online who the winner is cause I can’t watch anymore,” said a seventh.

While an eighth wrote: “I’m convinced this show is rigged. Ain’t no way (in my Bryson v) that Bryson and Iris went home and Jaydn stayed!”

    The Voice Season 27 Coaches

The Voice has gone through many coaches in its various seasons. Some stay on for a while, while others only stay for one season. Here is who will be coaching Season 27 in 2025.

    John Legend – 16 to 22, 24 to 25, 27

    Kelsea Ballerini – 15, Comeback Stage, 20, 27

    Michael Buble – 26 and 27

And a ninth said: “This show is rigged and bs how tf Bryson didn’t make the top 5????”

On July 22, the official Instagram of ‘The Voice’ announced the coach lineup for season 29, naming John Legend, Kelly Clarkson and Adam Levine as judges.
For the past 28 seasons, the show has had four celebrity coaches, causing confusion and anger among fans.
In a separate post, NBC confirmed there will only be three coaches for season 29’s ‘The Voice’ Battle of the Champions.

Voice fans, you’re going to want to sit down for this. The beloved NBC singing competition just released a major bombshell about season 29 on their official Instagram, and fans are not happy.

The premise for The Voice season 29, debuting in Spring 2026, is ‘Battle of the Champions,’ where winning veteran coaches will duke it out for the title of ‘Best Voice Coach.’

In the July 22 Instagram post, the network revealed the coach lineup for season 29, which includes John LegendKelly Clarkson and Adam Levine. The announcement included only three coaches, a stark change to the series’ previous 28 seasons, which all featured four coaches.

The post was accompanied by the caption, “John Legend, Kelly Clarkson and Adam Levine face off in the Battle of Champions, coming Spring 2026. #TheVoice | @NBC and Peacock”

Fans have reacted to the announcement with mixed emotions — excited to see some of their Voice favorites back but less than pleased about the missing fourth chair.

“ONLY THREE COACHES?? BATTLE OF THE CHAMPIONS??” wrote one commenter.

“👀 Wait who’s the 4th coach?” said another.

Others are rallying for their celebrity coach-of-choice to make a return.

“WHOS THE 4TH PERSONN?!?!?!!! BLAKEYYYYY????” wrote one commenter, referring to Blake Shelton.

Another added, “What about the love of my life @michaelbuble 😍”

A third commented, “I want kelsea back.”

While many fans are wondering whether a fourth coach will be announced closer to the show’s season 29 air date, NBC has confirmed the spring season will only feature three coaches.

However, for the In-Season All-Star Competition, NBC has confirmed The Voice Season 1 Coach CeeLo Green will be back as a guest judge. So there will be four judges at some point during the season.

While the format change has many fans bummed, we’re excited to see what John, Kelly and Adam will have in store for the new season. Knowing them, it’s sure to be something entertaining. May the best coach win!

Is Blake Shelton Returning to ‘The Voice’? Here’s What Fans Need to Know

The coach got his mentoring start on the NBC series, but he’s taking his skills to a brand-new competition show for CBS.

The Voice season 28 is set to premiere on September 22 on NBC.
The Voice also revealed the upcoming coaches for the show’s season 29 in spring 2026.
Fans may be curious to know why Blake Shelton won’t be on The Voice amid his exit after season 23.

It’s official: The Voice season 28 is almost here.

The latest installment of the NBC series is set to return on Monday, September 22, 2025, and fans are ecstatic to see which new artists get their chance to compete on TV. With Reba McEntire, Michael Bublé, Niall Horan and Snoop Dogg all coaching the latest batch of musicians, it’ll be hard to root for just one team this season!

But with the news of The Voice coming back, let’s not forget how folks are already pumped about the fact season 29 has also been confirmed for the spring of 2026. Set to be called The Voice: Battle of Champions, viewers will see returning coaches Adam Levine, Kelly Clarkson and John Legend all try to prove that they are the mentors to beat. But with all these famous faces back on our screens, how come we haven’t talked about Blake Shelton? After all, he was part of the original program since day one, but he famously left The Voice after 23 seasons back in May 2023.

So, is there a chance that Blake Shelton is returning to The Voice as well? Well, we hate to break it to you, but it may be a while before we see him pop back up on the competition series.

As for the reason behind why Blake won’t be returning to The Voice, that’s due to him co-executive producing and starring in another singing competition series on CBS.

Titled The Road, the project will follow Blake, Keith Urban and Gretchen Wilson as they search to find the next big music superstar. And if that’s not enough, the show is also from the minds of Taylor Sheridan, Lee Metzger and David Glasser. And for those wondering when they can see Blake back be their TV screens, CBS revealed The Road‘s official release date will be Sunday, October 19, 2025.

“#TheRoad to music stardom begins Sunday, Oct 19 on @CBS and @ParamountPlus,” the caption read alongside the Instagram announcement on July 11.

But that’s not all. At the time of Blake’s exit from The Voice, he mentioned how he wanted to be more present as a husband to wife Gwen Stefani (who he married back in 2021) and stepfather to sons Kingston, Zuma and Apollo (Gwen shares her sons with ex-husband Gavin Rossdale).

“I think the only way for me to really [parent] right is to step away from being committed to something like The Voice that demands a lot of your time,” he shared back then to Access Hollywood. “There’s no way around it. If you’re going to do it and do it right, you have to be 10 percent in. And I just feel like those days are behind me for now. I got a more important job.”

Wheel Of Fortune player misses out on $68,000 jackpot

Fans haven’t been filled with hope that Wheel of Fortune’s Vanna White will co-host the hit game show for much longer, and now she hasn’t exactly improved that.

Following her $10 million contract expiration, the 68-year-old gave a cryptic response to a question about her potential successors on the ABC game show following her $10 million contract expiration.

White has co-hosted Wheel Of Fortune, most recently with Ryan Seacrest following Pat Sajak’s retirement last year, for more than four decades, and in 2023 negotiated a two-year contract.

At the time, it was reported that her salary was bumped from $3 million to $10 million a year. However, it’s not been revealed whether or not the show’s longest-running host will stay on when her current contract finishes.

During an interview with Forbes, White was asked who she thinks would be a suitable replacement should she exit.

    Wheel of Fortune's Vanna White

    Daily Express US

Suggesting the audience should have a say, she shared advice for the potential new host, saying, “Be yourself, and know the entire alphabet!”

White previously revealed how many days she works a year to earn her estimated $10 million salary. In a chat with Elvis Duran and The Morning Show, she said, “We film about 34 days a year. That’s it. But [we film] six shows a day. Come on… You could feel bad for me.”

Duran replied, “I do not feel sorry for you one bit. That sounds like a great job.”

Last year, White welcomed a new co-host to the show when Ryan Seacrest took over from Pat Sajak, who made his debut in 1981.

After almost 42 years as the show’s host, she hinted to E! News last year that her job might soon be obsolete, sharing, “When I first started, I had to physically turn every letter. Then they switched to TV monitors, so I just had to touch the letters and they would light up.

    Wheel of Fortune's Vanna White

“Now the board is operated by a laser. It’s like a flat screen. And when I go to touch the letter, the laser catches my movement. It’s crazy, right?”

As the reporter joked they might not even need her anymore, she exclaimed, “I’m telling you right now, don’t say it. They need me!”

Fans have been debating who will be White’s replacement. Some think it’s going to be Maggie Sajak, Pat Sajak’s daughter.

Maggie, a country singer and television personality, has served as Wheel of Fortune’s social media correspondent since 2021 and previously appeared as a guest letter-turner.

She made her official debut on the show in May 2023, filling in for White — a moment that sparked speculation about her possibly stepping into the role permanently when White eventually retires.

A now-viral Reddit thread recently asked the million-dollar question, “Whenever Vanna White retires, do you think Maggie Sajak will take her spot as letter toucher?”

Fans were quick to jump in with their thoughts as a heated debate was sparked. One user felt it was the obvious move as they wrote, “Yeah, it’s been obvious for years that she is a textbook nepobaby.”

Another revealed they’d called it years ago, “Oh definitely. I’ve said that the last few years.”

A third Redditor said, “That feels like the plan. It’s the only reason they keep shoving her in our faces. If the only benefit was to give Pat’s daughter a high paying job, she could easily do something in the background.”

Another speculated on Maggie’s salary prospects and commented, “I agree, she’ll get the job. Maggie’s pleasant enough, however my thought is she will not get Vanna’s salary (nor should she, Vanna’s seniority should count for something), nor will she stay on the show as long as Vanna.”

The Price Is Right player celebrates after winning car

The Price Is Right contestants got revenge during the game show’s One Dollar Redemption special, but one player had a powerful reaction to finally getting to the stage.

During the July 7 episode of the hit CBS game show, host Drew Carey explained that all the players called down were returning after being outbid by one dollar on Contestants Row in previous episodes and now had the chance of playing some great games to win incredible prizes.

The first contestant was Angela, who guessed the nearest retail price of some tablets. She ran to the stage to finally meet Carey, who said, “Redemption!”

Angela yelled back, “Yes! Sweet redemption!” before Carey asked her how the show got “one-dollared” when she was on the show previously.

The player revealed that she got outbid by a dollar four times, which shocked Carey enough to ask if he’d been the host at the time.

“Yes,” Angela replied, prompting Carey to say, “Oh, my goodness.” The contestant then revealed that he had said something to her after being outbid by one particular player.

“What did I say?” Carey asked, before Angela yelled, “Because I screamed at the guy who bid a dollar, and you said that was an honest reaction,” as she screamed in demonstration.

“Well, she screams like that for a dollar, I can’t wait to see what she screams for when she sees this,” Carey joked after being screamed in the face, prompting announcer George Gray to reveal Angela had the chance of winning a sunglasses package and a sedan if she won a game of Any Number.

She lost, but later spun a dollar on the Showcase wheel, earning $1k and a spot in the Showcase.

The episode was full of pumped-up contestants ready to finally make it to the stage after previous fellow players had done them dirty.

    Price Is Right player Angela

One player, Jasmine, said the guy who one-dollared her won the Showcase, prompting Carey to ask, “Would you have won the Showcase?”

She replied, “I don’t know, but I’m going to win it this time!” She went on to win $10k on the Grand Game, but sadly did not get into the Showcase round.

Another player, Dewayne, said he was the only one out of 20 flight attendants who got picked to play, but he got outbid several times.

Player Daniel, though, chose to continue outbidding his fellow players by a dollar, even during the special that brought back previous contestants who’d experienced this, including himself.

He did it before Dewayne’s game, but later bid and won a chance of playing Switch. He told Carey he’d been outbid three times and that one person in the audience even laughed and pointed at him.

Later, Katherine, who Daniel outbid by a dollar, made it to the stage to share her One Dollar Redemption story.

She recalled that Carey laughed at her, prompting the host to joke, “I was in a bad place.” The player then won a game of Pathfinder in a “clean sweep,” spun a dollar on the wheel, and won the Showcase, going up against Angela.

Angela bid $38,420 on a trip to Scotland, designers shoes, and a convertible, and Katherine bid $34,968 on a living room and SUV.

The Price Is Right fans slam ‘dumbest’ and ‘aggressively useless’ prizes

Fans slammed The Price Is Right on Reddit, calling prizes like a $7,500 tent trailer and bulky photo booths “aggressively useless”

The Price is Right fans have protested the ‘dumbest’ prize on the show.

The Price Is Right may be known for handing out dream vacations and new cars, but some longtime viewers say not every prize is a winner.

Fans of the long-running CBS game show took to Reddit this week to call out what they described as the most impractical, and sometimes laughable, prizes regularly featured on the series, now in its 54th season.

One Reddit user singled out a $7,500 TreeHaus camping trailer as the worst prize.

“You have to register it, get plates for it, install a trailer hitch, and tow it, which reduces your fuel economy by at least 5 mpg and makes parking and reversing a nightmare,” they wrote.

“In exchange for that you get… a tent. No bathroom, no shower, no fresh water, no stove, no field kitchen, no refrigeration, no lights, no AV, no power outlets. Just a four-person tent, which is like $250 at Costco… It’s aggressively useless.”

“It’s quite tall and looks like it would just end up being stuck in a corner collecting dust for 99% of the time,” one commenter said.

A former contestant added, “It was one of the prizes when I played Race Game. I wasn’t sad I didn’t win it.”

“The digital photo booth. Or the exercise mirrors that require a subscription to use,” another user agreed.

Some noted that while items like selfie stations or karaoke machines could potentially be rented for events, they’re still impractical in most homes.

“The photo booth/selfie stations, the light-up dance floor, the cheap-looking bamboo tiki bars, the karaoke packages…” another wrote, listing off a series of prizes seen on the show that they considered “useless.”

Fans also took issue with oversized or brightly colored kitchen appliances that wouldn’t fit in the average kitchen.

“You would have to change your whole kitchen around just for it to match,” one user said.

Several pointed out the awkwardness of winning a trip to a place a contestant already lives.

“I don’t know if it’s really useless,” a commenter said, “but I always find it funny when people receive a ‘vacation’ to a state they live in. I saw a woman win a trip to Vermont. That’s great for someone else, but she was from Vermont.”

A Texas contestant stunned Wheel of Fortune viewers, and even host Ryan Seacrest, by solving a Bonus Round puzzle in just over a second.

Traci Demus-Gamble, an English teacher, delivered one of the most memorable solves in recent show history during the January 17 episode. With minimal help from the board and little time to think, Demus-Gamble correctly guessed the phrase “They Go Way Back,” leaving Seacrest nearly speechless.

The segment, which aired earlier this year, and later posted to the show’s YouTube channel, captured Demus-Gamble walking up to the final round stage and waving to her husband in the audience.

She was given the “Phrase” category and the usual R-S-T-L-N-E letters, but only two showed up on the board.

She then selected her additional letters, M, C, D, and O.

“Again, not too much more,” Seacrest said, trying to encourage her. “But who knows, you’ve had a lot of good luck tonight. Maybe it’ll strike you.”

As soon as the 10-second countdown began, Demus-Gamble said, “They go way back.” The bells rang, the puzzle turned over—and Seacrest looked stunned.

“That was amazing,” he told her. “How in the world did you solve that last one?”

Demus-Gamble replied, “I just dug deep.”

The impressive moment capped off an already strong game for the contestant, who had previously dominated both the Mystery and Express rounds earlier in the show.

    The contestant won over $28,000.

By that point, she had already secured $28,650 in cash and two Caribbean cruise vacations.

Despite appearing nervous during the Bonus Round, Demus-Gamble’s quick solve instantly made her a standout contestant.

Viewers online compared the moment to the show’s best-ever solves, and Seacrest even jokingly checked her for an earpiece on-air.

Demus-Gamble, who teaches in Texas, said she relied on intuition and language instincts honed over years in the classroom.

“I just saw it,” she said afterward. “It clicked.”

Drew Carey opened up about how he’s finally found closure after the heartbreaking murder of his ex-fiancée Amie Harwick.

“I can barely remember the guy’s name — that’s how much I’ve put him out of my life — but ever since the final sentencing, it feels like we’ve all let out a breath and are able to finally move on,” Carey, 65, told People in an interview published on Wednesday, March 6. “The whole process is over now, and there’s nothing else to be done and nothing else to worry about. … Just speaking just for myself, it’s been quite a load off.”

The Price is Right host revealed that although that part of his life is behind him now, he will always have a special place for Harwick in his heart. He even still has photos of her displayed around his house and in his game show’s dressing room.

“She’s with me always,” he explained. “A lot of times I’ll feel like I’ll be thinking things through, and it’s almost like I can hear her voice saying, ‘Well, really, it’s because of this and that.’ It’s really nice, honestly.”

The former couple first went public with their relationship in June 2017. They got engaged the following year, but called things off before they made it to the altar.

Harwick’s life tragically came to an end a few years later, when she was murdered in February 2020.

At the time, the L.A. police department responded to a radio call of a woman screaming at 1:16 a.m. When officers arrived, a male roommate told them that Harwick was being assaulted inside her home. The roommate claimed he had jumped a wall and went to neighboring residences to call for help.

Harwick was found by police unresponsive on the ground below a third-story balcony at her Hollywood Hills home. She was “gravely injured” and immediately taken to a hospital where she passed away at age 38.

Harwick’s ex-boyfriend Gareth Pursehouse was later arrested and charged with first-degree burglary and first-degree murder. Prior to her death, Harwick had been granted two restraining orders against him.

Days after her death, Carey spoke about his relationship with Harwick. “Amie and I had a love that people are lucky to have once in a lifetime,” he told Us in a statement at the time. “She was a positive force in the world, a tireless and unapologetic champion for women, and passionate about her work as a therapist. I am overcome with grief,” he shared. “I would like to thank you in advance for giving myself and everyone who loved Amie privacy while we try to work through this tragic situation.”

Last September, Pursehouse was convicted of Harwick’s murder and in December 2023, he was sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Carey has since stated that over time, he has tried to find a way to forgive Pursehouse for his actions.

“After Amie’s murder, I took a week off,” he said during an appearance in April 2020. “Really, I couldn’t function and my first day back [hosting The Price is Right) we taped the high school show for ‘Kids Week.’ It was the first show back and everybody knew what happened to me. And so, I took time during the break to talk to these kids.”

He continued, “I talked to them about how I forgave the guy who murdered Amie. I did it as soon as I could, right away because he was mentally ill, the guy was abused when he was a kid and, you know, you have to be able to forgive people like that. You know, I wish he never did it, or I wish he never met her. When you forgive people, that doesn’t mean you have to hang out with them and be their friend.”
