Wheel of Fortune Vanna White’s Surprising “Price Is Right” Past Revealed – Fans Are Stunned by This Hidden Gem

Wheel of Fortune’s Vanna White appeared on The Price Is Right in unexpected role before rise to fame

Vanna White was not always a iconic game show legend – she was once a contestant on a game show.

The iconic Wheel of Fortune letter-turner made an appearance on The Price is Right as a contestant in 1980. The episode originally aired on June 20, 1980 with Bob Barker as the host. In a YouTube video which showed her appearance, a then 23-year-old Vanna wore a baby blue shirt that had the words “Get Serious” on them.

Unfortunately, she did not win during her time on the show. She was called down with three other contestants to “Contestants’ Row” or “Bidders’ Row” where she guessed the price of certain items. She did the pricing game five times and lost each one.

Last year, in August, Vanna shared a screenshot of her time on the show in a tribute post to the longtime host Bob.

“When I moved to LA in 1980, I was on Price Is Right and met Bob Barker. Thank you Bob for introducing me to the game show world! We will miss you,” Vanna wrote.

But while Vanna did not win The Price is Right, she went on to have her life changed two years later when she entered the world of game shows co-hosting Wheel of Fortune as their letter turner. She has been on the show since 1982 and has outlasted former longtime host Pat Sajak.

Pat retired from the puzzle game show after 41 years with his last episode in June. Vanna like many others were emotional about his exit. During his penultimate episode, she had a heartfelt message for her “lifelong friend” and detailed how close they became and what he meant to her.

“8,000 episodes went by like that. When I first started, I was so green. You made me so comfortable and made me so confident, Pat. You made me who I am,” Vanna said in part, in the video message.

Ryan Seacrest is now the new host replacing Pat and began the new hosting job in September when season 42 debuted. Vanna signed a contract for two more seasons along with Ryan and is not sure if she’ll extend her contract after that.

“I don’t know. When I heard that Pat was retiring, I thought maybe I should retire too. But I’m not ready! We’ll see toward the end of those two years how I feel.” The 67-year-old said in interview with TV Insider. “I thank God after all these years that I still love my job.”

Drew Carey’s Emotional “Price Is Right” Moment Leaves Fans in Tears During Historic 10,000th Episode Celebration!

Drew talks about hosting “The Price is Right,” the 10,000th episode, picking up the bill for writers who ate at Bob’s Big Boy or Swingers during the WGA strike, applying to rescue a dog, DJing on New Year’s Eve, and discovering Phish at the Vegas Sphere on 4/20 weekend.

Drew Carey Celebrates 10,000th Episode of The Price Is Right

CBS, Wednesday Night – In a momentous occasion for television history, Drew Carey, the beloved host of “The Price Is Right,” took center stage to celebrate the show’s 10,000th episode. This special milestone marks 53 years of the game show that has become a staple of American entertainment. As the flames of this iconic show continue to burn brightly, Carey reflects on his journey and the joy of engaging with fans.

"The Price is Right" Celebrates 10,000th Episode

    A Warm Welcome

The atmosphere was electric as Carey made his entrance, greeted by enthusiastic applause from the audience. During his appearance, he shared his thoughts on hosting such a long-running show and the unique experience of performing in front of an audience without name tags, a hallmark of the show’s interactive format.

“It must be weird being in front of an audience that doesn’t have name tags on,” Carey quipped, noting how different it felt compared to the usual dynamic of engaging with contestants who often wear shirts emblazoned with their names.

    Connecting with the Audience

Carey expressed his enjoyment of interacting with the crowd, emphasizing that it’s one of the most enjoyable parts of his role. “That’s what I look forward to the most,” he said, highlighting the lively energy that fans bring to the show. Many audience members have grown up watching “The Price Is Right” with their families, creating a sense of nostalgia and excitement.

    A Nod to Writers

In a heartfelt moment, Carey was recognized for his generosity during the recent writers’ strike, where he provided lunches for everyone involved in the production. “I wouldn’t have any money if it wasn’t for writers,” he remarked, showcasing his appreciation for the creative minds behind the scenes.

    Reflecting on a Long Career

As the host of over 3,300 episodes, Carey acknowledged the legacy of his predecessor, Bob Barker, who hosted more than 6,700 episodes. “I’ve been on the show for 18 years, which is a long time,” Carey noted, humorously comparing his tenure to LeBron James’ career in the NBA.

When asked about his involvement in the show’s production, Carey clarified that while he doesn’t directly choose the prizes, he does send suggestions if he sees something interesting online. He reminisced about the early days of hosting, including his bemusement over the frequent giveaways of grandfather clocks, a prize he never quite understood.

    A Personal Touch

In a candid moment, Carey shared his experience of adopting two rescue dogs, revealing the humorous side of filling out the adoption application. “I thought it would be enough to just say I’m Drew Carey,” he laughed, explaining the thorough process he went through to welcome his new pets into his home.

    DJing on the Side

Beyond hosting, Carey also indulges in his passion for music by DJing at events. He shared a fun anecdote about a recent gig after a Phish concert, where he embraced the vibrant atmosphere and connected with fans through music. “I just started DJing for fun,” he said, showcasing his versatility beyond the game show stage.

    Conclusion

As Drew Carey leads “The Price Is Right” into its next chapter with the 10,000th episode, he continues to embody the spirit of the show: fun, excitement, and community. His ability to connect with the audience, both on and off the stage, ensures that this beloved game show remains a cherished part of American culture. Tune in to CBS this Wednesday night to witness this historic milestone and celebrate the enduring legacy of “The Price Is Right.”

Ryan Seacrest got more than he bargained for on the Jan. 21 episode of Wheel of Fortune after a contestant got a little too excited and knocked the veteran host over.

It all started when contestant Daniel Thomas chose the category “living things” during the bonus round and correctly guessed the word “guppies” as the answer despite only having “G,” “E,” and “S” on the board.

Thomas jumped up and down in excitement and rushed over to hug Seacrest, but in the commotion, Seacrest lost his balance and took a tumble.

Initially, Thomas didn’t notice, but as Seacrest was splayed out on the floor, the contestant turned around and exclaimed, “Oh my gosh!” and proceeded to help the American Idol host back on his feet.

“I’m good! I’m good!” said Seacrest before revealing that Thomas had just won an additional $40,000 on top of his initial winnings of $31,950 and a trip to Alaska.

After announcer Jim Thornton joked, “Daniel, easy on our host, but celebrate with $40,000!” Thomas turned to Seacrest and asked “I’m so sorry, did I make you fall?!”

Seacrest took it all in stride, pretending to back away from Thomas in fear before announcing the contestant’s total winnings and throwing his arms around Thomas in celebration. “Congratulations, that’s amazing!” said Seacrest.

He later joked about the incident while speaking directly to the camera, “Pick me up, throw me over, tackle me, I’m totally fine with it,” Seacrest teased.

Fans were quick to jump into the comments to both make sure that Seacrest was OK, and to get in some playful ribbing. “A little wheel of fortune hulk smash today 😂,” joked one fan, while another said, “Pickup and Drop-off.”

“Ryan got body slammed is this Wheel of Fortune or the WWE,” teased a commenter, and more shared the sentiment, writing, “Who needs @wwe when you have WOF? 😂.”

Even fellow game show Jeopardy! got in on the fun, commenting, “We’re glad Ryan is okay 😆💙.”

“The Price Is Right” Drew Carey’s Epic Reaction to a Contestant’s Unforgettable Dance Breaks the Internet – See the Moment Everyone’s Talking About!

Drew Carey Mocks Dancing ‘The Price Is Right’ Contestant After Huge Win.

Drew Carey has been the witness of a myriad of contestant celebrations as the host of The Price Is Right, but one contestant actually made him start dancing along with them.

The 66-year-old host was performing his duties on the Tuesday, February 18 episode of the game show like any other when contestant Roslin Real stepped up to the podium.

Real, who was constantly dancing as she was participating, played the Range Game, where she correctly guessed the range for a trip to Vermont, which cost $9,439. The contestant continued to dance and celebrated her correct answer with a flick of her hair.

Carey seemingly mocked the enthusiastic contestant and playfully mocked her dance moves before he continued to host the episode.

Drew Carey Real, who was quite lucky during her time on the show, continued to dance throughout her participation in the games, where she secured a spot in the Showcase Showdown.

The contestant danced as she spun the wheel, which eventually landed on “100,” meaning she would take home an additional $25,000. Real’s winnings for the night came to a total of $26,000 before she lost to another contestant later in the episode.

Fans of the game show took to the comment section of a post about the contestant to share their reactions to the dancing.

“Lucky Nebraska lady 👏👏👏 enjoy your trip to Vermont,” wrote one user.

“She was super lucky! That was a very low stop,” a second user noted about the contestant’s wheel spin.

A third user seemingly commented on Real’s dancing and wrote, “She is so cute!”

“Are ‘Price Is Right’ Contestants Too ‘Crunk’ to Play? Drew Carey Spills Shocking Behind-the-Scenes Secrets About High and Drunk Hopefuls!

Drew Carey has given new meaning to the signature phrase ‘come on down!’

The 66-year-old television personality – who recently talked about his euphoric experience seeing Phish at The Sphere in Las Vegas – revealed that The Price Is Right contestants are frequently drunk and high.

Drew made the revelation that contestants often are under the influence to prepare themselves for being on cam era in a recent interview with TV Insider.

The comedian explained: ‘Oh, that happens here all the time. They’ll have a gummy or I’ll smell alcohol on their breath. Not unusual.’

He went on to tell a funny story about one of the contestants who had indulged in psychedelics as they both had similar backgrounds.

Drew said: ‘There was a guy here that was tripping on mushrooms. He came with a bunch of friends. He was a sketch [comedy] guy. I found out later when I went to UCB [sketch improv theater, United Citizens Brigade] to hang out and they were like, “Did you see that guy who claimed to be a skateboarding rabbi?”

‘I asked him what he did for a living. And he goes, “I’m a skateboarding rabbi.” He didn’t think he was going to get picked, and he totally tripped.’

He went on to share several secrets of the show including paying homage to legendary host Bob Barker by continuing to use his iconic sign-off line: ‘Help control the animal population, have your pet spayed or neutered.’

Drew added his own twist to the sign-off as he also says: ‘Take care of yourself, especially your mental health; it’s so important, and I love you!’

He explained why he made the move as he told TV Insider: ‘It’s important to me. I went through a rough couple of years, and I needed to put my mental health first. It was such a help for me to do that and not succumb to sadness or grief. My therapist and my doctor helped me find tools to not go completely under.

‘That’s all it is: tactics and tools you can learn to help your brain from not going down the drain. You can go into an addiction of feeling depressed and not knowing how to get out. You normalize it, or you normalize feeling bad about yourself. Life can be so much better with love, forgiveness, boundaries, speaking your mind, saying your truth, and living your truthful life.’

The star stressed the importance of focusing on ones mental health whether it be through therapy, psychiatry, reading a book, or even just talking to a confidant.

He said:  ‘Some people are afraid to do that. They don’t want to seem weak or overbearing or be called, “Oh, that guy’s being an a**hole. He’s stating his worth and won’t put up with something anymore. Why doesn’t he play along like everybody else?” Maybe he or she doesn’t want to. It’s not who they are anymore. People end up getting trapped and unhappy.

‘There are all kinds of really well-researched ways to not have that happen to you. Professional therapists and psychologists don’t have everything figured out, but they have a lot figured out. Sometimes therapy helps. Sometimes reading a self-help book or talking to a friend. I feel better from being here. So I pass it along.’

As Bob Barker passed away in August at the age of 99, no doubt Drew has had big shoes to fill and he talked about how he has tried to carry on his legacy.

The host said: ‘Ever since the beginning, I wanted to be a good steward. I learned that from when I was a church kid. You got to be a good steward of the Earth and good steward of your family and a good steward of your money.

‘And I want to be a good steward of the show, so I don’t screw it up and wreck it from the very beginning. I was like, “Don’t mess it up.” I just wanted to make sure it was always on.’

The Price Is Right viewers were left stunned after Thursday’s (December 12) episode when multiple contestants made incredible errors that cost them big prizes.

Despite long-time host Drew Carey explaining the rules throughout the episode, several contestants made mistakes that some fans couldn’t believe. This included two contestants on Bidder’s Row bidding the same amount and another contestant bidding “ten-hundred.”

The contestants who made it up to the stage didn’t fare much better. One contestant took on Safe Crackers yet didn’t understand that the numbers could only be used once each. Even after he won a TV, the contestant seemed surprised, telling Carey, “Oh, I did? Where is it?”

Another contestant played Push Over, where the player must push the blocks until the correct price is shown in the window. This contestant continued to push all the blocks to the end, ruining any chance of winning the game.

Across the episode, there was only one contestant who won their pricing game. A contestant called Linda participated in the game Do the Math, where the player must decide whether to add or subtract from the price of a prize on the left to equal the price of the prize on the right.

Linda’s prize items were a washer-dryer combo and a game table, and she had $869 to add or subtract from the washer-dryer price to match the game table’s price. She figured out the washer-dryer was worth more and subtracted the $869, meaning she walked away with both prizes.

Fans took to social media after the game to compliment Linda on being the only contestant to win their pricing game while blasting the other contestants for their “stupidity.”

“Linda was the only one who won her pricing game!” wrote one commenter on YouTube.

“Well, today’s show just didn’t go well at all with Do the Math being the only game won,” said another.

Another referred to the Push Over player as “the most stupidest contestant on today’s show,” writing, “What in the world was he thinking?”

Meanwhile, a fan on the Price Is Right Reddit forum wrote, “We’re not even done watching the episode and I had to pause the DVR and come on here to see if anyone else was overwhelmed with the idiocracy of today’s contestants. Were the normal contestant selector people sleeping on the job today?”

“I have never seen such stupidity before on this show, it was so bizarre and irritating,” replied one commenter. “It’s like either nobody was listening or haven’t watched the show which is always obvious. I think it’s disrespectful to Drew and everyone if they don’t watch the show, they don’t even deserve to get called up. This episode was awful!!”

Another added, “Some of the blame lies with the producers. They pick contestants with big energy regardless of whether they’re fans. I don’t mind a dumb contestant now and then but the show is better with people who know TPIR, IMO.”

“I couldn’t believe the Pushover contestant,” said one fan, while another replied, “The audience was screaming at him to stop. He was in his own little world.”

One commenter added, “I feel like they all want to go viral now rather than win a gameshow.”

Another YouTube commenter wrote, “One of the worst episodes of TPIR so far this season because of the contestants and their stupidity.”

Is Drew Carey psychic? After wondering if anyone had won a car on the first round of Cover Up on The Price Is Right, the contestant did just that and made history.

Alyssa Ludlow first won beach gear during the third item up for bid on Monday, June 23. The package, which retailed for $1,232, included two chairs, a picnic cooler, two towels, an umbrella, a blanket, and an ice pack. She had the highest bid of $800, so she will have to plan a trip to the beach very soon. She then won a car to put all of her beach gear in.

Then, The Price Is Right contestant came up to the stage to play Cover Up for a 2025 Snow White Pearl Kia K-4 LXS. Cover Up is a game where contestants have to “cover up” the wrong numbers with the right numbers in order to win the car, after moving one number from each column. If the game show contestant gets one number right, they can play a second round, and so on.

“If you get the number right on the first try, congratulations, you’ll be the first one in The Price Is Right history, probably,” Drew Carey said. The host then double checked with a crew member, Chris, to make sure he was right, and Chris said that it happened a long time ago during the Bob Barker era.

For the first round, Ludlow picked $24, 796, after consulting with the audience. Drew Carey asked if Ludlow was right, and the whole price lit up, indicating a win.

The host screamed and looked to the crew with his jaw hanging open. As Ludlow walked over to her car, Carey looked at the price and stood in shock. Model Amber Lancaster hugged Ludlow and said, “What? No way!”

Carey threw his hands up and said, “I can’t believe it!” According to Golden Road, this is the first perfect game of Cover Up since June 12, 2007, when Bob Barker hosted. This is one of the last scenarios that needed to happen under Carey. One of the last ones needed is a contestant winning $50,000 on Plinko.

Drew spoke it into existence today, even my jaw dropped. This was truly epic!” a YouTube fan said.

“Holy macaroni! I’m just as shocked as Drew and Amber are. Since 2007, nobody ever got it right on the first try playing Cover Up, until now. That. Was. Freaking. AWESOME!!!! You go, girl!” wrote another.

“What an incredible win in Cover Up! A perfect Cover Up in the Drew Carey era, that’s history (HER-STORY) in the making,” a third added.

“Drew’s face. Priceless,” commented a fan.

Ludlow moved on to the Showcase Showdown wheel and spun two 50’s, giving her $1.00 exactly. This resulted in her winning an extra $1,000. She spun again to try to win more money and only spun an 80, but she still advanced to the Showcase.

During the Showcase, Ludlow bid $30,000 on an aluminum cold plunge tub, a year’s worth of ice cream and kitchen appliances, and a trip to Australia.

The actual price was $24,517, which was a difference of $5,483. However, her opponent was only $2,353 off, so she won. Ludlow was still the biggest winner of the night with $27,028.

Chrissy Teigen Doesn’t Hold Back: She’s Calling Out John Legend Over ‘The Voice’ Coaches.

John Legend had some big, big plans with the Voice cast on Tuesday, December 17 — but he didn’t think to properly warn his wife, Chrissy Teigen, beforehand.

The “All of Me” crooner, 40, invited over the Voice’s coaches and contestants for a dinner party following the NBC show’s season 17 finale. The 34-year-old Cravings author reclaimed her throne on Twitter to hilariously rant about her husband’s communication misstep.

“I didn’t know tonight was The Voice finale. John invited everyone to dinner at the house after and I’m really f–ing mad because I didn’t make a f–ing FINALE meal,” she tweeted on Tuesday. “I would have gotten a cake or something too?? Who the f–k does this? U don’t win The Voice then eat short ribs.”

In a follow-up tweet, she noted that her complaint likely “sounds dumb” to  fans but she regarded this behavior as “very” typical of Legend, whom she wed in 2013. “I am always in charge of doing the fun, extra s–t and he has no idea how much I plan normally,” she continued. “And he’s like, ‘No, it’s fine. They just wanna have dinner.’ But it’s literally the finale of their show??? And I have no ice cream truck.”

Due to her husband’s lack of communication, the ever-prepared Teigen didn’t have enough time to prep and properly host her A-list guests Kelly ClarksonBlake Shelton and Gwen Stefani. “If u think this is stupid go ahead and tell me what you made when Blake, Kelly and Gwen came over to your house,” she tweeted.

In airing out her frustrations, she continued to express how “f–king pissed” she was while “laughing” over Legend’s major faux pas by sharing a screenshot of their text conversation. Teigen asked the EGOT winner why he failed to plan his own dinner party with his castmates, and added that she “cannot plan every fun thing” for them.

“They want to come and have dinner with us,” he texted back. “They don’t expect us to entertain them with something elaborate.”

Teigen, however, argued that “no one is going to want to come sit and have dinner.” She said they didn’t have “cake or anything,” furthering that Legend is “not good at anything.”

After concluding her rant, Teigen shared a photo of herself posing with the Voice coaches. “When I say I love these people,” she tweeted. “Congrats on a great season!!”

Teigen’s rant about Legend’s surprise dinner party with The Voice came not long after the model revealed that “scheduling” was one of the couple’s biggest issues. “He will tell me something he knows I didn’t hear and get mad when I am confused later. ‘Hey I’ll take [our daughter] Luna to school today also I’m going to Washington, D.C., next week,’” she tweeted on December 8.

Chrissy Teigen Gets Angry About John Legend's Last-Minute Invite - Business Insider

Jake Hoot, who was a member of Clarkson’s team, won The Voice’s 17th season. During a press conference following the live finale, Hoot spoke with reporters about how it felt to come out on top.

“It means the world. I think I went out of breath,” the 31-year-old told Us Weekly and other news outlets on Tuesday. “I lost my breath when they announced my name. Kelly believed in me from the get-go. To be here tonight is just an incredible thing.”

The 31-year-old shared lyrics from Lake Street Drive’s song “Better Than,” writing, “I could spend ages reading the news / I could spend days, singing the blues. But I turn up the TV light / Give up without a fight / Better than pretending to know what’s wrong and what’s right.”

BBC’s Ghosts is rumoured to return to screens after drawing to a close after five seasons on air, over a year ago. According to insiders, the series has been given the green light for a film adaptation.

A source spoke to the Daily Star’s Hot TV column, declaring: “A film has been written, and it’s been given the green light. Everyone involved is really excited that Ghosts will be on the big screen.”

The show, which starred Charlotte Ritchie and Kiell Smith-Bynoe as Alison and Mike Cooper, followed the couple’s escapades in the ghost-filled house they inherited from a distant relative. Both actors are set to reprise their roles for the film, alongside a star-studded cast.

The source shares that producers want to get the original cast back together: “It’s hoped that most of the original cast will reprise their roles. Producers have already signed up a few and are in talks with the rest. They’re aiming for a dream cast.”

The series finale saw the ghosts persuading Alison and Mike to sell their home to a hotel company in exchange for leaving them alone, only for the ending sequence to show the family twenty years later, reunited with their spectral friends in their “favourite hotel suite.”
