[VERY SAD] Allison Janney Reveals the REAL REASON Mom Is ENDING “Sooner Than We Thought It Would”

Allison Janney Reveals the Real Reason Mom Is Ending “Sooner Than We Thought It Would”

Allison Janney said she was convinced CBS would renew Mom, and that she assumes there’s a very specific reason why it’s ending in May after eight seasons.

Allison Janney didn’t realize she’d already be bidding farewell to Mom.

Allison Janney Reveals the Real Reason Mom Is Ending

The 61-year-old Oscar winner guested on The Late Late Show on Wednesday, March 17, yubi where host James Corden asked how she’s feeling about her CBS comedy series signing off this May after eight seasons. Last month, the network announced the show’s upcoming end, which follows star Anna Faris‘ character, Christy, having been written out after the seventh season.

“I’m sad,” admitted Allison, who plays Christy’s mother, Bonnie. “I wish that we’d had at least another year for the writers to have that much time to ramp up to the ending. We sort of found out sooner than we thought we would. We thought, Surely, they’re going to want more Mom. And they decided not.”

As for what prompted the network to cancel the popular sitcom that was co-created by prolific TV producer Chuck Lorre, Allison explained that a lot presumably went into the decision. That said, she assumed it came down to one key factor.

“There are so many reasons behind that, most of them probably money,” she shared about why the show is going dark. “I know that Chuck Lorre is writing the final episode, and we’re right now filming the third-to-last episode. I’m having a lot of moments where I’m just standing on set, taking it in and looking at all the faces I’ve looked at for eight years.”

The actress, whose previous series The West Wing signed off in 2006 after seven seasons, said that a major reason she loved starring on Mom was hearing from viewers who appreciated its focus on sobriety. On the series, Christy and Bonnie are recovering addicts.

    Mom, Allison JanneyCBS

“It’s going to be very hard to just have it, all of a sudden, it’s gone,” Allison continued. “And no matter how much I prepare myself for it, I know I’m just going to be tears, buckets of tears. Because it’s been so incredible, all the amazing letters I get from people who are in the program, or people who got sober with us.”

She added, “It’s been a great show to be part of. And it’s so rare when you do something like that, and it affects people in a positive way out in the world. It makes me sad, but onward.”

Luckily, viewers were able to enjoy the laughs for eight great years, and after the finale airs on May 6, we can all just go back and watch the episodes again.

[SO SAD] Kat Dennings Breaks the Silence: ‘Shifting Gears’ Season 2 May NOT HAPPEN AS PLANNED

‘Shifting Gears’ Star Kat Dennings On Finale & Whether Tim Allen Comedy Is A Red State Show

SPOILER ALERT! This story contains details from the season one finale of Shifting Gears on ABC.

The multi-camera comedy about widower (Tim Allen) who allows his daughter (Kat Dennings) and grandkids to move in wrapped its 10-episode first season March 19. Here, Dennings talks about working with the sitcom veteran, what it’s been like to return in front of a studio audience, yubi and what fans could expect if the show is renewed for a second season.

Kat Dennings, Tim Allen Disney/Raymond Liu

Before we get into the finale, I’m not sure you saw but The Wall Street Journal suggests that Shifting Gears is a red state show. What do you think?

KAT DENNINGS No, I wouldn’t agree with that. I can understand why, because there’s a conservative viewpoint from Tim’s character, but I think the fun of the show is the dynamic between Tim’s character and my character because they have completely opposing viewpoints. It’s about how they navigate that in their relationship. That’s kind of where the core of the comedy comes from.

Do you talk politics much? It is fertile ground, especially nowadays.

DENNINGS There are some little jokes here and there. As you said, it’s kind of a timely situation because there is always a family member or a family with opposing viewpoints. When you love someone, that can be a very difficult dynamic. So it’s that classic Thanksgiving dinner quandary where you’re like, ‘okay, we just have to be civil to each other for two hours and not talk about it.’ That’s kind of the comedy center of this show, when completely opposite viewpoints are living together in the same house and how to make that work. I think Tim’s portrayal is very sensitive to that, and he [the actor, who is a conservative] is a very open, sensitive person, and he doesn’t discuss this stuff on set. I think he knows that it’s best. Everyone at work wants to maintain a professional and comfortable environment, so that stuff is really left at the door, and the writers take advantage of the different styles to make a show.

What’s it been like for you, being back in the multi-cam universe?

DENNINGS Oh, it’s been really fun and kind of a throwback because I hadn’t done a sitcom since 2 Broke Girls ended. I had done it for so many years that I was like, okay, I definitely don’t want to do a sitcom again. I wanted to do something different. And then I found myself missing the format. Now that I’m older, I really enjoy that more and I found myself really missing it. This has really been a nice and sweet return to that.

Stream It Or Skip It: 'Shifting Gears' On ABC, Where Tim Allen And Kat Dennings Play An Estranged Father And Daughter Who Come Back Together

Beth Behrs generated a lot of attention with her Instagram post last week about how she was grateful that CBS was giving The Neighborhood a chance to say goodbye when that opportunity wasn’t afforded 2 Broke Girls.

DENNINGS We were so sad because we did not get to resolve it, and that season ended on a crazy cliffhanger. The people who enjoyed that show were cheated out of a conclusion. But it’s so classic with TV. Who knows? Maybe one day we’ll do a Will & Grace and we’ll bring it back. I would be open to that. We’d be old. We’d be like two 60-year-olds, but not the ’60s old. It would be different. There’d be a time jump.

How was it for you finding a groove with Tim?

DENNINGS I had no idea what I was walking into because you also just never know how people really are. But I was so pleasantly surprised with his behavior toward me. He’s been so open and caring and just very accepting, and he really wants this to feel good for everyone. What’s nice, too, is that so much of the crew came with him from Last Man Standing, and some people are even from Home Improvement. So there are crew members that have been working with him for 25 years, which is really rare. My makeup artist met her husband on the pilot of Home Improvement, and he’s the sound guy, so they’re both here on our show. They’re all very loyal and he treats the crew really well, and he treats us really well, and he loves making sitcoms. This guy is born for this, and it’s really fun to watch someone be in their element like that. And his fans love him. The audiences we’ve had on Shifting Gears I’ve never experienced anything before. I know that they’re there to see Tim, and that’s the beauty of the whole thing. They are so raucous. They have to turn down the volume of the audience in these edits because they’re screaming and laughing and it’s almost like a sporting event. It’s really something. I wasn’t used to it on 2 Broke Girls. We had a lot of variables with the audience. Sometimes it would be amazing and sometimes it would be completely silent, crickets really. So this has been a real treat.

The finale ends on a cliffhanger, with Sean Williams Scott’s character professing his affection to your character, Riley. Have you heard anything yet about a pickup?

DENNINGS No, we haven’t. Of course we’re all on pins and needles about it but hopefully we will. You just never know with TV, but we’ve gotten such great numbers and I’ve heard that people are happy. So who knows? I’m a very negative person, so I never expect anything to happen.

Did you know at the beginning of the season that it was going to end this way, that you weren’t going to move back in with your husband?

DENNINGS No, I didn’t. I think they had been tossing a few ideas around. In the finale, she finally realizes that they have both just grown apart. She’s a completely different person. She wants different things. So she does ask for the divorce, and that was a really amazing moment that they came up with because they didn’t make Lucas Neff’s character Jimmy into a villain. He’s still sweet, and we can see why she fell for him in the first place.

There was a great line in the finale where Tim says, “this is the first time I’ve really enjoyed kids in the house.” Obviously it’s the conceit of the show that you’re living with your dad, but you’re also a 34-year-old woman living with her dad. You’ve got to keep that conceit to keep the show going. Can you imagine this going for a fifth season and she’s still there?

DENNINGS You know what? I think the beauty of this is that I can conceive it. She might end up there for five seasons or maybe in season three she does move out. Who knows though? There’s also her brother, Sam, who we’ve never seen before. He’s in the military who will come in hopefully in future seasons. And then there’s that whole dynamic with who he is. Where’s he going to live? So there could be just unlimited ways to go with this. I’m really looking forward to that and really hope so much that we get a season two.

Last Man Standing follows Allen’s Mike Baxter, a happily married father of three daughters. He tries to escape all the female drama at home in the warm, manly embrace of his job at the Outdoor Man store, a sporting goods emporium where he is marketing director. He also revels in his Outdoor Man vlog, which he uses as a pulpit for his opinions, which often have nothing to do with the store’s merchandise. When he’s supposed to be selling mountain bikes or kayaks, he somehow spouts off about the environment, health care, politics, or any other topic occupying his mind.

In addition to Allen, the cast includes Nancy Travis as Mike’s wife, Vanessa Baxter; Amanda Fuller as their oldest daughter, Kristin Baxter; Molly McCook as middle daughter Mandy Baxter-Anderson, Christoph Sanders as Mandy’s husband, Kyle Anderson; Jordan Masterson as Kristin’s husband, Ryan Vogelson; Jonathan Adams as the Baxters’ neighbor and Mike’s co-worker, Chuck Larabee; Krista Marie Yu as foreign exchange student Jen; and Hector Elizondo as Mike’s longtime business partner and Vanessa’s step-father, Ed Alzate.

Last Man Standing and Home Improvement actor Tim Allen is gearing up to lead an all-new ABC comedy as the network has ordered a pilot for a multi-camera sitcom.

The pilot tentatively titled Shifting Gears comes from Duncanville cocreators Mike Scully and Julie Thacker Sully, yubi who executive produced Last Man Standing with Allen, Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, Richard Baker, and Rick Messina, according to Deadline. Written by the Scullys, the series would center around Allen’s character Matt, described as a stubborn widower who owns a classic car shop.

When Matt’s estranged daughter and her teenage kids move into his house, the real restoration will begin though. As mentioned above, this would be Allen’s latest team-up with the Scullys, after he led the comedy Last Man Standing for nine seasons.

Last Man Standing first began in 2011, airing for six seasons on ABC until 2017 when it was ultimately canceled. The show found new life on Fox, where it aired Seasons 7 through 9.

Shifting Gears would mark Allen’s return to ABC for the first time in almost 10 years. He previously led Home Improvement on the network as well, with that comedy airing for eight seasons between 1991 and 1999.

Currently, Allen stars in Disney+‘s sequel series The Santa Clauses, which is a follow-up to his Santa Clause film franchise. Could this new series impact The Santa Clauses?  The show has already aired two seasons on the streamer, but word on a third has yet to be revealed as fans await a renewal.

While viewers will have to wait and see how things play out, this is the first pilot order for ABC this season. Stay tuned for potential updates around the pilot as we await a possible series order for the comedy. And let us know if you’d tune in for Shifting Gears if it’s ordered by ABC in the comments section, below.

Tim Allen Needs Help Being Patient From Seann William Scott in ‘Shifting Gears’ Sneak Peek [Exclusive]

Tim Allen‘s Matt Parker loves a challenging project when it comes to restoring cars in his latest sitcom Shifting Gears, yubi but this week’s episode may have given him a task even he doesn’t have the patience for—getting his grandson’s attention to work together in the workshop. The latest episode of the hit series airs tonight on ABC, and Collider is thrilled to exclusively present a sneak peek at some of the laughs in store. The episode’s full logline states:

Georgia invites Matt and Riley to speak at her school’s Career Day, where playful competition turns tense when Riley learns Georgia is ashamed of her job. Meanwhile, Gabriel mentors Carter’s car project until a more urgent piece of business arises.

Our sneak peek sees Allen’s Matt trying to get the attention of his grandson Carter (Maxwell Simkins) as he seeks to work on a vintage car with him, as a project for the both of them to bond over. But when Matt’s old school ways fail to get the youngster’s attention, Gabriel (Seann William Scott) steps up to offer advice—and accidentally ends up volunteering to mentor Gabriel while Matt takes a back seat, quite literally, on the project.

What Else Has Been Happening on ‘Shifting Gears’?

The first season of the show has been an immense success so far, with viewership ratings through the roof, down in no small part to Allen’s charisma and likability, but the show has also been boosted by the presence of guest stars like Nancy Travis, who played Allen’s wife on Last Man Standing, while late night icon Jay Leno will appear in next week’s episode. When Travis was recently asked if she believed Allen would recruit more of his former co-stars from Last Man Standing and Home Improvement, Travis confirmed that Allen would always take care of his own.

“Oh, of course. I have no doubt [about that]. Tim is nothing if not loyal,” Travis told Us Weekly about the possibility of more Last Man Standing cameos. “So it was great to walk on that set and see most of the crew was from Last Man Standing. The director, John Pasquin, did so many episodes of Last Man Standing and is a personal friend. It was just so great to feel this sense of reunion. “I wouldn’t be surprised if everybody from Last Man Standing shows up on Shifting Gears in one way or another. If Tim has his way, he’ll make sure that everybody from [Kat Dennings’] 2 Broke Girls comes on too.”

Shifting Gears airs on ABC Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET before streaming the next day on Hulu. Check out our sneak peek at tonight’s episode above.

NBC will show the division round clash between the Los Angeles Rams and Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.

That game will kickoff at 3 pm ET, yubi meaning an earlier start than what they’re used to during the regular season.

NBC usually broadcasts Sunday Night Football with kickoff just after 8 pm ET.

They have a studio show Football Night In America on air from 7 pm ET every week.

But for this Sunday, that will become more like football lunchtime with a 2 pm ET start for Maria Taylor and the crew.

CBS usually shares Sunday afternoon slots with Fox in the regular-season.

But they have been given the marquee showdown between the Baltimore Ravens and Buffalo Bills this weekend.

And that game will kickoff at 6.30 pm ET with Jim Nantz and Tony Romo on the call.

Romo apparently leaked the schedule before it was announced.

Or he was at least manifesting to be able to work on that game.

Nantz and Romo called the Buffalo Bills’ wild card win over the Denver Broncos last weekend.

And in the late stages of that dominant Bills win, the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback began looking ahead to the division round.

“Two MVP candidates playing the best football of their career,” Romo said of the clash between Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen.

“It’s a coin flip to me,” he added on the broadcast.

“I can’t want to do that game with you next week, buddy,” Romo then said to Nantz.

    NFL division round schedule

Sun 19 Jan, 3 pm ET (NBC) – Los Angeles Rams at Philadelphia Eagles

Sun 19 Jan, 6.30 pm ET (CBS) – Baltimore Ravens at Buffalo Bills

His partner laughed off Romo’s remark, which may have just been the former quarterback trying to manifest it into happening.

“That’s the game I’ve been waiting for,” Romo added.

The division round will kickoff Saturday at 4.30 pm ET with the Houston Texans against the Kansas City Chiefs.

ESPN and ABC will broadcast that game before handing over to Fox for the prime time clash.

That will feature the Detroit Lions taking on the Washington Commanders.

The program’s official Instagram sparked furious backlash after uploading a snap earlier this week to promote the latest season premiering on September 11 – which will be Pat Sajak’s last

Wheel of Fortune fans rushed to the comments to share their thoughts on the situation - and did not hold back

The source was quick to emphasize White had ‘nothing but respect for Ryan and will be happy to work with him, but it just shows a lack of respect in her eyes that they have for her.’

‘She wants to be with the show for as long as she wants to be on the show, on her terms. She believes she deserves it,’ the source added.

‘It is a major uphill battle, especially when money is involved and she sees the writing on the wall that they think she is replaceable.

‘There will be lots of negotiations, but if she gets replaced and is not given a new contract, she will be beyond heartbroken.

‘This has been her life, it would be just as powerful as a death if she doesn’t continue with the show.’

Sajak announced in July that he would be retiring in 2024.

‘Well, the time has come. I’ve decided that our 41st season, which begins in September, will be my last,’ he wrote on Twitter at the time.

‘It’s been a wonderful ride, and I’ll have more to say in the coming months. Many thanks to you all. (If nothing else, it’ll keep the clickbait sites busy!)’

It was followed shortly after by a personal announcement from Seacrest to reveal he would be helming the show after Season 41 wraps up in June next year.

‘I’m truly humbled to be stepping into the footsteps of the legendary Pat Sajak,’ he said in a statement on social media.

‘I can say, along with the rest of America, that it’s been a privilege and pure joy to watch Pat and Vanna on our television screens for an unprecedented 40 years, making us smile every night and feel right at home with them.’

Seacrest went on to write a heartfelt message to the longtime frontman of the show.

‘Pat, I love the way you’ve always celebrated the contestants and made viewers at home feel at ease. I look forward to learning everything I can from you during this transition,’ he said.

Seacrest added: ‘I can’t wait to continue the tradition of spinning the wheel and working alongside the great Vanna White.’

White first joined Wheel of Fortune in 1982 when she was 25 years old and has been the presenter opposite Sajak ever since.

It is thought that White’s contract negotiations are still ongoing.

Seacrest will reportedly continue to host American Idol and his KIIS-FM radio show, On Air With Ryan Seacrest.

‘Oh my God. Oh my God,’ Joanna declared, before her mother pulled her in for a hug as they both broke down in tears.

Seacrest then told Pamela, ‘Your first time in New York City and you’re walking away in the new year a millionaire. The Powerball First Millionaire of the Year.’

Seacrest asked, ‘Can you speak any sentences of excitement?’ Bradshaw threw her arm around Seacrest and said, ‘Oh my God. I’m so blessed. I’m so blessed.’

Seacrest added, ‘I am so happy for you. Congratulations. You promised your daughter a little of it,’ as Pamela confirmed, ‘A little.’

‘Well, this is amazing. I’m so happy to meet you. Congratulations once again. And remember, every time you play Powerball, a portion of your ticket stays in your home state to support local communities,’ Seacrest added.

Before her big win, Bradshaw revealed that she was hoping to buy a new home with the money if she were to take home the $1 million.

‘I would love to have my own home that is mine and that I feel safe in,’ Bradshaw said before her big win.

‘I can have my own house and fix it up pretty and clean and feel safe. Not anything fancy or big, just a little cottage or something with one or two bedrooms,’ she said.

She won a four-day, three-night stay in New York City, which she told the North Carolina Lottery that it was not only her first time in the Big Apple, but also her first time on an airplane.

‘I cried on the plane ride and I cried at the Statue of Liberty. It’s just been so incredible,’ she said.

The Powerball’s First Millionaire promotion was included the North Carolina Education Lottery and 22 other official state lotteries.

Pamela won a second-chance drawing to win her trip to New York City along with four other finalists.
