The Voice Season 28 introduces the Carson Callback: Details

A New Rule Change on The Voice Season 28 Gives Carson Daly More Power (DETAILS)

Longtime Voice host Carson Daly is tired of seeing “great singers fall through the cracks.”

For 28 seasons of The Voice, Carson Daly has been the most supportive and empathetic host. He’s cheered on Artists from the sidelines during Blind Auditions, offered words of encouragement to Artists’ family members, and celebrated chair turns as if they were his own. But he’s never actually gotten a say in which Artists move on and who goes home. Well, that’s about to change.

    How to Watch

Watch Season 28 of The Voice on Monday, September 22 at 8/7c on NBC and Peacock.

In a new trailer for The Voice Season 28 — watch above — a new rule change is introduced that gives Daly more power. And it’s something he’s been wanting for a while.

“Sometimes I see great singers fall through the cracks,” Daly says in the trailer. “And I’ve never been able to do anything about it — until now.”

With that, the camera panned to a little red card called the Carson Callback, and this new feature is sending Coaches Reba McEntire, Niall Horan, Snoop Dogg, and Michael Bublé into a frenzy.

“What is happening, Carson Daly?” a shocked Bublé asks in the trailer.

The answer: The Carson Callback! That’s what’s happening. Read more, below.

Little is known about the Carson Callback right now, but all will be revealed when The Voice Season 28 premieres Monday, September 22 at 8/7c on NBC. From this trailer — and from the name itself — it’s safe to assume the Carson Callback will allow Daly to “call back” an Artist who doesn’t advance in the competition. But you’ll have to tune in to learn more about when and how Daly will be able to deploy this new power.

So, what else is in store this season? It’s clear the Coaches are having a blast with each other, and the Artists are more passionate than ever. (Please see: The one who knows where Horan’s “birthmarks” are.)  Bublé has on his Reba socks, Horan is Irish dancing, and there’s something called a Penalty Box that’s definitely going to cause some chaos.

“When somebody’s a bad boy, we put them in the Penalty Box,” Bublé says before telling Horan, “Now you get two minutes for looking too good.” The price of beauty, right?

A COACH from The Voice is most likely ‘done’ with the show after the upcoming season, bringing ‘messy’ drama to the set, The U.S. Sun can exclusively reveal.

Season 28 of The Voice will premiere in September and will star Reba McEntire, Niall Horan, Snoop Dogg, and Michael Bublé as the lineup of coaches.

While all four stars are returning to The Voice after previously filming seasons of the show in the past, it appears not all of them will be back again.

According to a production insider, it’s “most likely Snoop’s last season as a coach.”

“He was brought back this season per his contract but he hasn’t been working out the way everyone hoped.

“Snoop doesn’t seem entirely interested in the job anymore or invested in the contestants.

“He’s also one of the few coaches who hasn’t won a season yet,” a source told The U.S. Sun.

They added that the “outside noise” of his politics hasn’t helped matters, as the NBC series aims to be family-friendly and wants to stay away from politics.

However, following a series of endorsements for Donald Trump, Snoop, 53, has become more controversial than beloved in recent months.

The insider explained: “Then all the outside noise, his politics, and all of that, it’s not a good look.

“People were upset he brought the dark and ugly energy of politics into the conversation of a show that actively tries to be an escape from all of that.

“Mutually, I think everyone agrees this isn’t the best gig for him.”

    SORRY, DOGG

In January 2024, Snoop said in an interview that he had “nothing but love and respect” for Trump, 79, and that the former Celebrity Apprentice host had done “only great things” for the rapper.

A year later, Snoop performed at Trump’s Inauguration Crypto Ball after he won the 2024 election.

Snoop Dogg cries at Jeremy Beloate’s tear-jerking performance of The Impossible Dream on The Voice
His support for Trump was met with a wave of criticism, with many saying they were “disappointed” in the Long Beach, CA native for aligning with right-leaning politics.

However, he brushed off the noise and said he would only “answer hate with love” – appearing unbothered and continuing to support the President.

    LOWER YOUR VOICE

Snoop made his debut on The Voice for season 26, which premiered in the Fall of 2024.

He took a break for season 27 and is coming back for another spin in the red chair for season 28.

The season will star Snoop, Buble, Niall, and Reba however, following the death of her stepson Brandon Blackstock, the country singer’s fate on the show is up in the air.

As The U.S. Sun previously reported, Reba has missed recent tapings of The Voice’s season 28 filming to be with her family during this difficult time.

“The team [at The Voice] has known Reba for years. She was an advisor to Blake [Shelton] all the way back in season 1 and has been involved a lot of seasons since.

“So she is just as much family as you can get here. This has been, from the limited info they’ve gotten from her, the biggest heartbreak of her life,” the insider explained.

    The Voice Season 27 Coaches

The Voice has gone through many coaches in its various seasons. Some stay on for a while, while others only stay for one season. Here is who will be coaching Season 27 in 2025.

    Adam Levine – Season 1 to 16, 27

    John Legend – 16 to 22, 24 to 25, 27

    Kelsea Ballerini – 15, Comeback Stage, 20, 27

    Michael Buble – 26 and 27

The source continued: “She considered Brandon her son, not a stepson but her son.

“She would brag about him like her son, he’d visit her on set, and they very much had that mother-son bond.

“It’s not clear yet when she will be back. [The show] has two more tapings for the season 28 Knockout rounds on the last week of August that Reba was scheduled to be at, but that’s it for awhile.

“Everything else will be the live show. It’s unclear if Reba will be back for those, the show is working on her schedule right now, not the other way around. ”

Reba was married to Brandon’s father, Narvel Blackstock, from 1989 until their divorce in 2015.

Although she was no longer married to Narvel, with whom she shares son Shelby Blackstock with, Reba still considered Brandon her son and maintained a tight-knit relationship.

Season 28 of The Voice premieres on Sept. 28

    The Voice is so back!

In an exclusive first-look shared with PEOPLE from season 28, coaches Michael Bublé, Reba McEntire, Niall Horan and Snoop Dogg return to their red chairs — and they’re having so much fun doing it.

Beginning with Snoop, the second-time coach is rhyming his way to success.

“It took me all this time to get real — only you can seal the deal based off of the way that you feel,” Snoop, 53, tells a contestant.

Then McEntire, who’s entering her fourth season as coach, made customized folding fans with her face on them and gave them to the audience. In the clip, McEntire turns to them for advice when she’s vying for a contestant.

“Fans, who should they go with?” the “I’m a Survivor” singer, 70, says, as the audience whips out the fans.

Meanwhile, Horan — who previously coached and won seasons 23 and 24 — is back to his charming ways when the “Heaven” singer, 31, tells a contestant he “loved” her “song choice.”

“I love you! I know where you have birthmarks,” the contestant says in response, which prompts a surprising look on Horan’s face.

Lastly, the clip shows Bublé — who coached and won seasons 26 and 27 — back to his antics.

“When somebody’s a bad boy, we put them in the penalty box. Now you get two minutes for looking too good,” the “Feeling Good” singer, 49, says, as he places a box around Horan’s chair.

In addition to the coaches preview, the clip also reveals that there’s a new element this season called the “Carson Callback.”

“Sometimes I see great singers fall through the cracks and I’ve never been able to do anything about it until right now,” host Carson Daly says.

The Voice season 28 premieres Monday, Sept. 22 at 8 p.m. ET on NBC and will continue to air on Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET.

‘The Voice’: Reba McEntire Has New Tricks Up Her Sleeve in Season 28 Teaser

The Voice is gearing up for its much-anticipated 28th season, and so is returning coach Reba McEntire, who is back in the iconic red chair with a few new tricks up her sleeve.

NBC dropped the first teaser for the upcoming season on Wednesday (September 3), featuring the show’s latest panel, McEntire, Michael Bublé, Niall Horan, and Snoop Dogg, all returning coaches, though never together as a foursome.

All four coaches showed off their tactics for winning over acts, but it was the Queen of Country who came the most prepared. McEntire, who is now in her fourth season of The Voice, handed out folding fans to the studio audience, and not any old folding fans, but ones with her face on them.

This means that when the “Fancy” singer wants to sway a singer into choosing her, she just has to turn to the audience and ask, “‘Fans, who should they go with?” She then looks over at the crowd to see dozens of people waving her face.

“When I say she got fans, she got FANS!” Snoop says in the trailer, while Horan playfully shouts at the audience to, “Put them down!”

    https://youtu.be/eWpSuVeybFE

McEntire isn’t the only one coming into the new season with secret tactics, though. The teaser shows Snoop trying to influence acts to his side by rhyming for them, telling one hopeful, “It took me all this time to get real — only you can seal the deal, based off of the way that you feel.”

Bublé, meanwhile, introduces the “Penalty Box,” a large perspex box that he can place over one of his fellow coaches to put them on time out. In the clip, Horan is the first victim, with Bublé telling him, “When somebody’s a bad boy, we put them in the penalty box. Now you get two minutes for looking too good.”

However, it’s not just the coaches getting up to mischief. Season 28 will introduce a shocking new twist, and it involves host Carson Daly. As he explains in the trailer, “Sometimes, I see great singers fall through the cracks, and I’ve never been able to do anything about it, until right now.”

He then unveils a button of his own, called the “Carson Callback,” which presumably allows the long-time host to bring back a contestant the coaches previously passed on.

Jay Leno’s Guest Spot in Shifting Gears Ignites Last Man Standing Nostalgia—First Image Released!

Last Man Standing Reunion Revealed in New Image of Upcoming Shifting Gears Episode

Tim Allen Last Man StandingImage via 20th Television

Another Last Man Standing reunion episode is in the works for Tim Allen’s new sitcom Shifting Gears. However, unlike the recently aired Valentine’s Day episode, the returning Last Man Standing alum was not a main cast member during the show’s nine-season run on ABC/Fox.

Per Screen Rant, in an upcoming episode of Shifting Gears, Allen will reunite with Jay Leno, who made recurring appearances in Last Man Standing as semi-retired auto technician Joe Leonard in the show’s final five seasons. However, Allen and Leno’s working relationship goes back even further than that, with Leno having made two guest appearances as himself on Allen’s first sitcom, Home Improvement, in the 1980s. Leno will appear in the March 12 episode of Shifting Gears, titled “Gummies,” as himself, with the storyline seeing the former Tonight Show bringing his car into Allen’s character’s car restoration shop, yubi, Parker Customs, for repair. Check out a first look image of Leno below.

Leno isn’t the first Last Man Standing alum to make a guest appearance on Shifting Gears. Nancy Travis, who appeared in all nine seasons of the ABC/Fox sitcom as Tim Allen’s character’s wife Vanessa Baxter, guest starred in the sixth episode, “Valentine’s.” In the episode, directed by frequent Allen collaborator John Pasquin, Travis played a widow named Charlotte who stumbles upon Matt (Allen’s Shifting Gears character) visiting his wife’s gravesite on Valentine’s Day.

After the episode aired, Travis spoke with TheWrap about working with Allen again. “I got to work with Tim again, not in the role of a wife or a girlfriend, but as a stranger who shares a similar past and is a catalyst for him moving forward after the death of his wife in the show,” she said. “It was a very, very interesting character, and I was really excited to jump in and do these scenes with Tim.”

Shifting Gears Has Been a Ratings Hit for ABC

Created by Julie Thacker Scully and Mike Scully, Shifting Gears stars Allen as Matt Parker, a widower who runs an auto shop, and Kat Dennings as his estranged daughter, Riley Parker. The series revolves around Matt reluctantly taking in Riley and her two children after she returns home, as well as day-to-day auto shop life. Seann William Scott, Daryl Chill Mitchell, Maxwell Simkins, and Barrett Margolis are also part of the show’s main cast.

    Raising Dad cast

Shifting Gears star Kat Dennings fondly remembers Bob Saget, who once played her father in a sitcom on TV.

Shifting Gears image with Tim Allen and Kat Dennings in a kitchen

While his film career as a leading man was short-lived, Allen has remained a constant draw on television, with Home Improvement and Last Man Standing lasting eight and nine seasons, respectively. Shifting Gears has the potential to run just as long, especially if it maintains the ratings it’s currently getting. The series premiere of Shifting Gears set an audience record for ABC with its subsequent viewership on streaming, drawing almost 17 million viewers across ABC, Hulu, Hulu on Disney+, and digital platforms. This makes Shifting Gears the strongest series debut for ABC since the Roseanne spinoff series, The Conners, premiered in 2018.
