Scrapped Reba Revival Plot Revealed — Just How Close Did the WB Comedy Come to Returning for Season 7?

Revival Plot Revealed — Just How Close Did the WB Comedy Come to Returning for Season 7?

The roots of NBC’s Happy’s Place are planted in the past — roughly six years in the past, which is when Reba McEntire and Reba showrunner Kevin Abbott wanted to revive the WB classic. But not unlike Noah Wyle, who wanted to bring back ER before starring in The Pitt, McEntire & Co. were forced to pivot.

Abbott previously revealed to TVLine that there were plans to reboot the old sitcom, but we didn’t know just how far they got before they hit a snag — or what a hypothetical Season 7 would have looked like — until now.

“We had moved reasonably far on the reboot,” the EP tells TVLine. “There was not [a script yet]. We’d gotten to the point where we had pitched it to [20th Century] Fox, who wanted to take it out [and pitch it to networks]. The stall came when they were supposed to sign the actors” — including McEntire, Melissa Peterman (Barbra Jean), Christopher Rich (Brock), JoAnna Garcia Swisher (Cheyenne) and Steve Howey (Van) — “to [holding] deals. We were right up to the point of being ready to take it out and sell it when word came back [that it would not be moving forward]. It was unfortunate timing because of the Disney-Fox merger [in 2019], and there was a lot of uncertainty as to who actually should be making those calls.

“We had the story,” Abbott confirms. “We had everything but me actually putting the pen to paper. I was pretty disappointed. It had been a year and a half worth of work going into that, and it seemed so promising.”

As for what audiences would have seen in Season 7, Abbott reveals that “we were going to be picking up in real time. The characters had all aged to their [real] ages. We were going to start with Reba potentially moving out of Houston, but realizing that [she needed to stay put for the family].

“Somewhere in the back of my bed, [I think] maybe we can do a movie or something with it,” the EP says, stopping himself from disclosing anything further. “There was enough material generated to cover at least a couple hours.”

In the meantime, Abbott continues to show-run Happy’s Place, which reunites McEntire and Peterman, and previously featured Howey and Rich in Season 1 guest roles. The EP confirms that he has a part in mind for Swisher, and they’re hoping to carve some time out of her busy schedule on Netflix’s Sweet Magnolias to have her appear in the back half of Season 2. But due to Happy’s Place being made by a different studio (Universal Television) than Reba (20th Television), he alleges that they must be careful just how much he uses members of his former ensemble.

“We have been cautioned about how often we can use any actor from the previous show,” Abbott says. “It’s a fairly legal business these days, and we get a lot of restrictions that way, so we are trying to use the people we love in a precise manner. When we can have them on, it’s in a role that is fun, exciting and different, and interesting to them as well as to us.”

Melissa Peterman Gets Candid About Reuniting with Reba McEntire

Melissa Peterman Is “Savoring” Working with Reba McEntire on Happy’s Place Season 2

The sophomore season premieres on November 7 at 8/9c on NBC.

Having Reba McEntire and Melissa Peterman on share the screen again on Happy’s Place has been the ultimate treat. Starring on the NBC sitcom as Bobbie and Gabby, respectively, the former Reba costars have opened up about how much they treasure the opportunity to be reunited on TV. According to Peterman, they’re “savoring” every moment as they bring the laughs on Happy’s Place Season 2.

The second season of Happy’s Place premieres on Friday, November 7, at 8/9c on NBC, and the cast and crew are busy at work, filming the newest batch of hilarious and heartwarming episodes. As they’ve returned to set, Peterman is taking it all in with her longtime bestie by her side.

Melissa Peterman says she’s “savoring every minute” of working on Happy’s Place with Reba McEntire

During an August 2025 appearance on The Jason Show, Peterman said she was “thrilled” to announce that the Happy’s Place cast and crew were back in production for Season 2. She also opened up about how she’s “savoring” the opportunity to work with her best friend and the rest of the Happy’s Place cast once again.

“The first time it happened, I had no idea what that Reba show was gonna do for my life. How it would change my life, give my lifelong friends,” Peterman said. Back in 2001, Peterman and McEntire met on the set of Reba and they’ve been close friends ever since.

“You kind of don’t know, you’re like, ‘This is great, this is fun!’” Peterman said of working on Reba. “And the second time around [on Happy’s Place], we’re older, a little wiser, and I think we all realize it’s even more precious because we do know how rare it is to get to do this and to get to it with friends.”

“We take care of it,” she continued. “We’re savoring every minute.”

Nearly two decades after Reba ended, Peterman and McEntire were reunited on the first season of Happy’s Place. And when they finally got back on set together, it was an emotional reunion. “I won’t lie, the first day we were together — we’ve been waiting to get back together to do something for so many years — so that first day in Season 1, walking through the set, there were tears. There was a lot like, ‘We get to do this again,’” Peterman shared on The Jason Show.

In a Q&A video for Happy’s Place, McEntire and Peterman opened up about how it feels to be working together again on the NBC sitcom.

“Getting to do this after the Reba show? Oh my gosh, we know how special it is to have an ensemble that is so easy to work with, fun to be around, and so talented,” McEntire said in the 2024 video. “We’re not taking anything for granted.”

During the first season, the two also reunited with their former Reba co-stars, Christopher Rich and Steve Howey.

“To me, it feels like coming home,” Peterman said, adding she’s “protective” of the show. “It’s like carrying around a little egg. I’m more protective of it because I now know how rare and special it is to get to do what you love.”

Reba Star Eager to Join Happy’s Place Cast—But Still Waiting for the Call That Could Change Everything

Reba star would love to guest star on Happy’s Place but hasn’t been asked yet

HAPPY'S PLACE -- "Pilot" -- Pictured: (l-r) Melissa Peterman as Gabby, Reba McEntire as Bobbie --

There’s only been one season of Happy’s Place so far, and we’ve already seen some cameos from the Reba cast. With the second season currently being filmed, could we expect even more familiar faces to pop up in the NBC comedy?

Melissa Peterman, who plays Gabby in Happy’s Place and portrayed Barbra Jean Hart in Reba, previously stated in an interview that she expects more “blast from the pasts.”

However, this wasn’t confirmation that any specific former Reba cast members will appear. It was just a hint that fans might see more nostalgic surprises in the upcoming season. The show’s producers haven’t revealed any plans for additional guest stars, so fans will have to wait and see who might make an appearance.

    JoAnna Garcia Swisher

However, there’s one beloved Reba cast member that many are hoping will make a cameo. It’s none other than JoAnna Garcia Swisher, who portrayed Cheyenne Hart in the hit comedy sitcom.

Back in May 2025, Happy’s Place star Reba McEntire stated in an interview with Us Weekly that she had talked to Swisher, and she told her that she would “definitely” appear in the NBC series. However, McEntire didn’t state if that meant she would be in the second season. It appears that it was more of a general promise or intention rather than a confirmed plan.

Now we know for sure that it is the case. In a recent interview with Parade, Swisher revealed that she has not yet been asked to appear on Happy’s Place, but emphasized that she would be thrilled to do so and would “move mountains” to make it happen if the opportunity arose. However, she also acknowledged that even though she’s willing, any cameo would need to fit naturally within the show’s plot.

“No doubt. If they were to ask me to do it, I would 100 percent be there and I would move mountains to do it.”

Hopefully, the Happy’s Place crew finds a way to include Swisher in the upcoming second season. I personally don’t care what character she plays. Just seeing her back alongside McEntire would be enough to make the season feel extra special.

McEntire starred in Reba as Reba Hart. Besides her and Peterman, the only other former Reba cast members to appear in Happy’s Place so far are Steve Howey and Christopher Rich. While it would be great if Swisher could make a cameo appearance, it would also be nice if Scarlett Pomers made a cameo in the comedy sitcom. Pomers portrayed Kyra Hart in Reba, Reba’s daughter and Cheyenne’s younger sister. However, we can only hope!

CBS News Shake-Up Looms as Gayle King’s Role Faces Uncertainty Amid Massive Losses

Gayle King on even thinner ice as CBS News’ enormous ‘losses’ are revealed

Gayle King’s future at CBS News may be on thin ice after a bombshell report revealed the network is losing about $50million a year.

Sources told Dylan Byer’s Puck newsletter that the network, which was recently bought by Skydance Media’s David Ellison, will look to bring down talent salaries as it overhauls the news division.

But CBS denied the report of their massive losses, telling Daily Mail on Friday: ‘A published report that CBS News is losing “around $50million a year” is inaccurate. In fact, the division is currently profitable.’

Meanwhile former CNN journalist Oliver Darcy reported in his Status newsletter that ‘many industry watchers saw the scoop as a harbinger of painful cost-cutting.’

Darcy noted that Paramount’s new chief, former NBCUniversal president Jeff Shell, has shared his desire to make cuts in order to run the network more efficiently.

He said sources told him someone inside the network may have leaked the inaccurate losses report to justify massive cuts.

As Darcy wrote, ‘a report of $50million in annual losses would all but guarantee drastic belt-tightening at CBS News.’

The report comes as gossip about Gayle King’s future at the third-place network reached a high this month.

Sources told Daily Mail that King may be on the way out as her $15million-a-year contract is up next May.

King’s contract will ‘most likely’ not be renewed by CBS News’ new owners at that point, one source said.

Another conceded King’s departure was indeed likely, but that conversations were still being had.

Staffers at the Tiffany Network spoke with Fox News on the matter as well.

One addressed swirling internal talk about Skydance CEO David Ellison – the son of MAGA billionaire Larry Ellison – pulling the plug on King as co-host.

The staffer said current network leadership has ‘started to groom’ Adriana Diaz as a sort of ‘heir’ to King in case her contract is not renewed.

Another report by the New York Post claimed King and executive producer Shawna Thomas have alienated viewers with ultra-progressive programming.

Ratings for the last-place morning show, once a cash cow for the network, have dropped to below 2million in recent months, according to Nielsen figures cited by the Post.

Meanwhile Gayle lost between 20 to 30 percent of her audience in the last three weeks when compared to last year in the coveted 25- to 54-year-old demographic.

‘The audience doesn’t want woke. It doesn’t like progressive and provocative bookings,’ one of the sources told The Post.

The morning show audience wants optimism and cheer and joy and what they were producing is at odds with audience expectations.’

Gayle signed a contract extension last year for between $13 and $15million that is scheduled to end in May 2026, a source told The Post.

Skydance Media, which is to take over running CBS likely won’t offer Gayle the same deal given the ratings, the source added.

The potential morning show shake up comes as CBS canceled The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, whose own reported $15million contract also ends next May.

Get ready, Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune fans. Your favorite game shows will now be easier to watch because they are coming to streaming in a matter of days.  And for many it’s a life changer!

“Huge news for game show fans ➡️,” the Peacock Instagram page posted on August 21. “#Jeopardy and #WheelOfFortune arrive September 9 on Peacock.”

With the new season of both game shows beginning on September 8, it makes sense for a September 9 drop since they were scheduled to be released the next day. The post featured Jeopardy! host Ken Jennings as well as Wheel hosts Ryan Seacrest and Vanna White, all of whom are returning for new seasons in September.

However, if you aren’t caught up on the game shows, make sure to make time for them because they will only be available for seven days after their premiere, according to Peacock. The game shows will still air on their syndicated channels on weeknights. Fans just now have more opportunities to watch them. Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune will also stream on Hulu, but the streamer has not yet announced a date for that.

The streaming deal was reached in June after months of deliberation. Sony pushed the deal to reach a younger and wider audience. The company agreed to a multi-year deal for both game shows. Although the deal said that past seasons will be available on the streamer, Peacock only mentioned new episodes in the recent announcement.

Fans reacted to the news on social media. “I love this and I’m excited to watch these shows,” an Instagram user said.

“I hope we get EVERY. SINGLE. EPISODE. FROM. EVERY. SINGLE. SEASON!!!!!!!!!!!!!” a hopeful fan said.

    “Finally!” added a third.

“I can finally cancel my cable,” an ecstatic fan commented.

“They better have the Alex Trebek episodes, “said another.

“Thank God, I won’t have to watch janky YouTube bootleg stream anymore (but I am forever grateful for those channels for holding me down),” a Reddit user said.

“Omg I can finally watch Jeopardy!” said another.

“This is great news. Our station shows Jeopardy! at 4:30 in the afternoon. We record it and watch at dinnertime. I can’t count the number of times they’ve shown the wrong episode or pre-empted it without warning. The bootleg YouTube shows don’t have Closed Captions, which is a must in our household,” a fan said.

“So overdue,” an X user said.

What is… get that off my page? Ken Jennings creeped out Jeopardy! fans after sharing two photos of giant bugs on his Instagram page. One was so bad it had fans urging him to leave the house.

The first jump scare came on Saturday, August 23. “The duality of Washington state. Blackberry Season is always followed in very short order by Giant House Spider Season,” he captioned the post.

At first fans might not have known what Jennings was referring to as they looked at a photo of wallpaper patterned with various fruits and plants. Closer inspection revealed a huge spider, which looked to be a few inches long, hiding in the corner of Jennings’ sliding door in his home. The second photo featured a closer-up look at the arachnid.

Fans were creeped out after they eventually saw the huge spider. “I’d be listing the house,” one follower said.

“Talk about jump scare… I was so busy admiring the really pretty wallpaper, and then that spider came out of nowhere! 😬 🕷️ 🔥,” wrote another.

“Omgosh. That thing is giant,” added a third.

“I love that wallpaper! Not so much that spider,” a fan said.

“Not the close up!! Jeez! Warn a person!” another commented.

A female praying mantis supposedly bites the head off her male mate during mating season. The huge bug was sat on Jennings’ red, white, and blue striped towel as the Jeopardy! host faced the water, where boats floated by.

Although fans were not so creeped out as they were for the spider, some didn’t appreciate it. “This is not the content I signed up for (what is nightmare fuel),” a fan wrote.

    “Eww again,” another follower wrote.

“You’re wild for this one, Ken,” a third said.

Wheel of Fortune is back to filming Season 43 of the hit game show. This will be the second season without legendary host Pat Sajak at the helm.

However, the game show still has one Sajak on set. Sajak’s only daughter, Maggie Sajak, returns as Wheel of Fortune’s social media correspondent.

Maggie Sajak Shares Wheel of Fortune Return Ahead of Season 43 Premiere

Taking to Instagram, Sajak teased fans with her return to the Wheel of Fortune set. Looking fabulous as a lady in red, Sajak rocked a short mini dress and a smile to share some behind-the-scenes fun.

Set to Taylor Swift’s hit “You Belong With Me,” the video kicked off with Sajak in the parking lot as she ran to the Wheel of Fortune stage door. Sajak danced her way through the halls before stepping onto the Wheel of Fortune set.

There’s no question Sajak’s thrilled to be at work. She even said as much with the words written across her video. “You look happier,” and “thanks, I am back on set for Season 43,” flashed across the video footage.

“September 8th can’t come soon enough!✨” read the caption on her Instagram share letting fans know the new season will be here in less than two weeks.

The comments were filled with Wheel Watchers ready for the show to return. “Welcome back!!❤️” “Very anxious for season 43!! 😁” and “I’m looking forward to wheel of fortune next month” were some of those fan responses.

What Is Maggie Sajak’s Role on Wheel of Fortune?

In 2021, Sajak became the official social media correspondent for Wheel of Fortune. This position is exactly what it sounds like: Sajak creates digital content and conducts behind-the-scenes interviews for Wheel of Fortune’s social media platforms.

Although she’s focused on her social media job, Sajak filled in for Vanna White when she was a contestant on Celebrity Wheel of Fortune in 2023. The stint gave her a “change of perspective” as she’s not usually in front of the board.

Oops! We’re unable to load this content right now.

It’s not a surprise that Sajak got involved in the family business. After all, she grew up on the Wheel of Fortune set, watching her dad host for 41 seasons.

When Ryan Seacrest took over as host last year, Sajak stayed on and has been helping keep her father’s game show legacy alive. Sajak’s clearly happy to still be involved with Wheel of Fortune, even without her dad on set.

Drew Carey revealed new twist for popular The Price Is Right game

The Price Is Right received a new twist for one of its longtime games, and fans seemingly favored the concept.

While the game show launched in 1972, the popular game Plinko appeared on it 11 years later.

It features the relatively simple concept of winning Plinko chips by identifying the correct part of an item’s price and then dropping the chips one by one from the top of the game’s pegboard.

A chip falls down the pegboard to one of the spots at the bottom, with the center spot worth $10,000.

During the daytime episodes of The Price Is Right, contestants can win up to $50,000.

However, the cash prize increased to $100,000 during primetime episodes of the game show.

Drew introduced a ‘special’ new twist for Plinko

During The Price Is Right at Night, a contestant named Michelle was on stage when announcer George Gray revealed she would play Plinko for “a chance to win up to $100,000.”

Host Drew Carey handed over her first Plinko chip, which he said could be worth up to $20,000 if it landed in the center spot at the bottom of the gameboard.

“You can win four more chips, but tonight we have a special twist to the game,” the host said.

He explained that one of the prizes in the pricing game had a “special golden Plinko chip attached.”

“If you get the gold Plinko chip, wherever that gold Plinko chip drops, we’re gonna times whatever it lands on by 10,” he revealed.

Drew said if that gold chip landed on $20,000, she could win $200,000 just for that.

The crowd cheered after Drew’s announcement, and the contestant seemed excited by the added twist.

The contestant tried to win the special Plinko chip

The Plinko revelation appeared in a primetime episode on CBS on January 29 called Jackpot: The Golden Plinko Chip.

In the episode, Michelle won her way onto the stage by guessing the closest to a price for a trip to Santa Barbara, California.

She won her first two prizes with regular Plinko chips when playing Plinko. When she won the third prize, it had the coveted golden Plinko chip.

Michelle missed winning the final regular chip, but Drew reminded her she’d won the important one.

Model Rachel Reynolds handed her the chips she won, including the golden Plinko chip. Drew said she could drop the chips in any order she wanted.

She dropped her three regular chips first. The first two landed on $5,000 each, and the third brought her another $5,000, giving her a total of $15,000.

The suspense built as she dropped the golden Plinko chip from the top right side of the board. It fell to the $2,000 spot, making it worth $20,000.

“Awww,” Drew said, seeming unhappy it didn’t get more, adding, “Well, $35,000 altogether!”

After coming down and getting congratulations from Drew and Rachel, their nearby microphones captured her saying, “You guys, you made my year. My life probably!”

Fans reacted to seeing this new Plinko twist

The unique twist for Plinko seemed to be a hit among the game show’s fans. Many expressed their approval in the Instagram comments section of the teaser clip.

“Ooh, I LIKE this twist!!!” a commenter wrote.

Another individual mentioned they’d had “this exact idea for about 10 years to help spice up plinko up a bit.”

“This marks the first time since 2008 that the golden plinko chip was last used,” a commenter posted, referencing “The Price Is Right $1,000,000 Spectacular.”

“Do this for daytime too!!” an individual suggested to the game show.

Another person commented that a contestant could win as much as $280,000 from the game with the golden Plinko chip.
