Does Ken Jennings Seek Approval From Drew Carey Over Jeopardy! Hosting Duties? Here’s What Sources Say

Ken Jennings seeks Drew Carey’s approval to secure his position as Jeopardy! host amid mixed fan reactions.

Jeopardy! continues to be the most followed American gaming show. However, the show faced its challenges after the demise of its long-running host, Alex Trebek. The show’s hosting duties for all forms of media are currently undertaken by Ken Jennings. As per the recent reports, Jennings is seeking approval from Drew Carey, the host of The Price Is Right, to maintain this position.

Ken Jennings is reportedly yearning for the approval of The Price Is Right host, Drew Carey

Ken Jennings has been long associated with Jeopardy! Before taking the mantle of the show as its host, Jennings has also been a past contestant on the show. Back in 2004, he held the record for the longest winning streak in Jeopardy! history with 74 consecutive wins. In late 2023, Jennings took the show’s command as its solo host and is reportedly hoping to get approval from Drew Carey.

Drew Carey has been serving as the host of CBS game show, The Price Is Right since 2007, after he swiftly replaced the show’s previous long-term host, Bob Barker. As reported via The U.S. Sun, Ken too wishes to serve as the host for Jeopardy! in its long run and thus seeks the approval of Carey to convince the Sony studios. Carey, in the past, has also worked with Sony for its game show, Power of 10.

Reportedly Song views Carey positively as someone who managed to successfully replace his acclaimed previous long-term host and win over the hearts of the audiences. Therefore, Carey’s opinion matters a lot in shaping the final call of the executives. At present, Jennings is allegedly in desperate need to muster as much support as he can to maintain his position as the Jeopardy! Host.

The support of Carey is even more important as many fans of the gaming show are not satisfied with Jennings’ hosting skills. Thus support from a gaming show veteran can be of great assistance for Jennings to maintain his position.

“The perception inside the Jeopardy! bubble right now is that Ken needs all the help he can get…What’s important about Drew’s approval is that it really does resonate with the executives at Sony,” the source stated. “Sony listens to Drew, but they’re also monitoring the fan community incredibly closely. Ken has to keep the fans hooked without outraging them, and it’s not easy.”

Drew Carey was not initially in support of Ken Jennings’ host position in Jeopardy!

Jeopardy! witnessed multiple guest hosts including the brief run of Ken Jennings, after the passing of Alex Trebek. Eventually, makers decided to place then-executive producer Mike Richards as the new host of the gaming show. However after a week of his run as the permanent host in September 2021, Richards was stripped of his position as his past sexist comments re-emerged.

Following his departure, Mayim Bialik and Ken Jennings took the role of the show’s host on a rotational basis. Bialik eventually gave up his hosting duties to support the 2023 Hollywood labor disputes. This left Jennings as the sole host of the gaming show for its all forms of media.

As per the reports from The Sun, Drew Carey was initially in support of Richards to replace Trebek as the duo were already friends with each other. However, after the exit of Richards and Bialik, Carey automatically shifted towards Jennings’ corner.

“Back when it was an open seat and an open job, Drew was fiercely in his friend Mike Richards’ corner. He felt that Mike was the best prepared to replace Alex and keep the franchise going. But that’s because Drew and Mike were friends. Now that Mayim has bowed out, Drew has really come around to Ken, even though they are merely acquaintances and colleagues,” the source revealed.

Well, it’s to be seen though whether or not Ken Jennings receives the approval of Drew Carey. Jeopardy! airs its new episode every weekday on NBC.

‘The Price Is Right’ Host Drew Carey Says The Show “Could Be Around For 100 Years On American Television” – NAB

Drew Carey arrives at the Save the Children “Centennial Celebration: Once in a Lifetime” event on Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2019, at The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif.Jordan Strauss/Invision/AP

The Price Is Right host Drew Carey, accepting an award at the NAB Show, believes the already long-running game show “could be around for 100 years on American television, because it’s just that strong.”

Carey appeared on the first day of NAB, which is being held in Las Vegas in person for the first time since 2019 as Covid restrictions gradually ease. The Price Is Right, whose CBS version began airing in 1972, was inducted into the NAB’s Broadcasting Hall of Fame.

The Price Is Right' Contestants Are Frequently High or Drinking, Claims Host Drew Carey

In 2007, Carey was named host of the Fremantle-produced strip, succeeding longtime host Bob Barker. Despite the CBS mainstay’s deep roots and loyal daytime audience, it “has been able to adapt with the times and change and grow,” Carey maintained. “It’s humbling to be part of this legacy.”

The host did admit his typical workday is not exactly strenuous. “If you see me in the hotel or casino, feel free to punch me in the face,” he said, because he shows up about 20 minutes before tapings begin at noon. “I know all the games, I don’t need to learn the prices, I don’t need to. I know how the games are played, and I just play along with the contestants and have a good time and laugh all day. So, thanks for the trophy.”

NBC News anchor Lester Holt also received a Hall of Fame commendation from the NAB, which had been issued in 2021 but never handed out due to Covid.

Holt made the case for broadcast television and did not slip in any mentions of Peacock or NBC News Now into his remarks. “I have so much respect for this medium and so much belief in its future,” he said. “And yes, the media landscape is rapidly evolving but broadcast programs remain important touchstones in our culture, our society, holding true to a legacy of excellence and integrity while always peeking around the corner of technology to deliver to our audiences where they are and how they consume our work and product.”

Why 'Price Is Right' host Drew Carey wants to 'scream' at contestants

The opening-day festivities came as the NAB Show gets back on its usual footing, though this year it is not the only act in town. The confab is occurring down the Las Vegas Strip from CinemaCon, which kicks off tomorrow at Caesar’s. The NFL Draft, which annually draws millions of viewers on ESPN, will provide another Vegas-based media spectacle starting on Thursday night.

Due to the pandemic, NAB is a bit more subdued than usual, though the exhibition halls (newly expanded with a massive new wing of the Las Vegas Convention Center) are active. The show, which runs through Wednesday, will feature sessions with station owner and Entertainment Studios chief Byron Allen, FCC Chair Jessica Rosenworcel and a stand-up set from comedian Jim Gaffigan.

As more and more allegations of sexual harassment and other misconduct emerge in Hollywood, Ryan Seacrest today took the preemptive move of denying acting badly before an accusation went public.

“Recently, someone that worked as a wardrobe stylist for me nearly a decade ago at E! News, came forward with a complaint suggesting I behaved inappropriately toward her,” said the past and future American Idol host Friday. “If I made her feel anything but respected, I am truly sorry.”

E! is investigating the allegations internally, the outlet says.

The anonymous accuser wanted a “substantial amount of money to keep quiet,” a source close to the situation tells Deadline. Wary of the implications of guilt baked into acquiescing to such a financial demand, Seacrest refused and decided to go public, we hear.

“I dispute these reckless allegations and I plan to cooperate with any corporate inquiries that may result,” the Live With Kelly and Ryan co-host went on to say in his statement. “I treat all my colleagues with kindness, dignity, and understanding, as this is a principle that’s core to who I am. Throughout my 25 years in the entertainment industry, the majority of my co-workers have been women, and I’ve endeavored to foster a positive work environment of mutual respect and courtesy, as that’s how I believe it should be. I’m distraught that anyone or any situation would call that into question. I’m proud of my workplace reputation, and believe my track record will speak for itself.”

“I’m an advocate for women. I will continue to support their voices,” he concluded. Seacrest hosted E! News from 2006-2012.

Justina Machado Faces the ‘Heat’ from Reba McEntire and Melissa Peterman in Hilarious Happy’s Place Cameo: Watch (Exclusive)

Machado is set to make a guest appearance on ‘Happy’s Place’ on Feb. 7, playing Maritza, the woman who had a secret affair with Bobbie’s father

Melissa Peterman is standing by Reba McEntire on Happy’s Place no matter the cost — even if it means a joke at her expense!

In PEOPLE’s exclusive look at the Feb. 7 episode of Happy’s Place, One Day at a Time alum Justina Machado makes a special guest appearance as Maritza, the woman who had a secret affair with Bobbie’s (McEntire) father.

In the scene, Bobbie’s half-sister Isabella (Belissa Escobedo) introduces her mom to Bobbie and Gabby (Melissa Peterman).

“Here they come,” Bobbie says before warning bartender Gabby, “Be on your best behavior!”

Gabby then quips, “Like Child Protective Services is coming for a visit!”

After Isabella and Maritza enter the bar, the foursome are quickly introduced. “Mom, this is Bobbie. Bobbie, this is my mom, Maritza,” Isabella says.

Maritza warmly greets Bobbie, telling her: “It’s so nice to meet you. I hear wonderful things about you.”

“I heard a lot about you too,” McEntire responds nervously. “It’s okay if I say that? I mean, I didn’t mean anything by it. I was just being polite.”

The awkward moment continues as Bobbie turns to Gabby and says, “Oh, and this is Gabby!” But Gabby cannot hide her true emotions and quickly blurts out, “For shame! For shame!”

Clearly frustrated by the rude exchange, Isabella asks Gabby, “What the heck?”

But Gabby maintains her stance, expressing just how mad she is that Bobbie’s father had an affair with Maritza. “I’m sorry, but if she can’t handle the heat, she shouldn’t have done the Happy,” she quips.

Bobbie quickly apologizes for Gabby’s actions, but Maritza is not bothered and requests to speak privately with Gabby instead. “Gabby, what’s your current profession?” she asks as they step aside.

    Gabby snaps back: “Lion tamer.”

“So I see I’m dealing with someone who’s obviously intelligent,” Maritza says, to which Gabby asks, “Am I?”

“If you’re trying to butter me up, you can stop,” she adds. “My mother told me never to believe anyone who thought I was smart.”

Happy’s Place follows Bobbie, who inherits her father’s titular tavern and is surprised to find out she has a half-sister, played by Escobedo, 26, who is also her business partner. The show also stars McEntire’s real-life boyfriend Rex Linn, 68, as the tavern’s chef.

Speaking with PEOPLE in October 2024, Kevin Abbott — the creator of both Reba and Happy’s Place — revealed that he and McEntire wanted to create a show that captured the energy and heartfelt comedy of the country star’s original sitcom, which aired from 2001 to 2007.

“Just in general, Reba and I gelled and clicked on the old Reba show I think because we both like to tell the same kind of stories, and we have a very similar sense of humor, and thematically, we like positivity,” he told PEOPLE. “When people get done watching our shows, we want them to feel good. We want them to walk away having really enjoyed themselves and maybe gotten half an hour out of the tension of life.”

According to Abbott, themes of family, forgiveness and “responsibility to other people” were incredibly important in the story of Happy’s Place.

“Just the times we’re in, and when you’re seeing different viewpoints on life, to be able to capture some of those and see how they kind of bounce off each other, and see where we can find commonalities that you wouldn’t necessarily think are there,” Abbott said. “I mean, we tend to want to bring people together and find the things that people share rather than the things that people apart. And that’s why we brought in Belissa [Escobedo] and Pablo [Castelblanco] and Tokala [Black Elk].”

“We wanted to get some different perspectives on life so that we could honor those and show how, yeah, we might be different, but we’re also more similar than you think,” he finished.

Vanna White Breaks Silence On Ryan Seacrest Conflict Rumors

Vanna White and Ryan Seacrest - YouTube

Recently, there has been talk about Wheel Of Fortune‘s new host, Ryan Seacrest, and veteran assistant, Vanna White, struggling during filming. While it is expected that anyone following in Pat Sajak’s footsteps will experience growing pains, this seems to be more. However, Vanna breaks her silence on the conflict rumors.

    Growing Pains

Undeniably, Wheel Of Fortune is going through a huge transition. Reportedly, while Vanna White is expecting things to be a little rocky, there have been moments she questions if she should have retired with Pat Sajak. Since Pat’s leaving, it seems like there has been some division between the new host, Ryan Seacrest, and the longtime letter-turning queen, Vanna. Without a doubt, the growing pains of training a new host, after the tried and true work of having the same host for more than forty years, has to be grueling. However, Vanna sends a message as the rumors swirl about their behind-the-scenes beef.

Vanna White Breaks Silence On Ryan Seacrest Conflict Rumors

On July 9, Vanna White posted a photo of her and Ryan Seacrest breaking bread together. She captions: “Friends on and off camera. Enjoying one of our favorites, Chicken and Dumplings!” In the photo, they both lean toward each other and smile for the camera while holding spoonfuls of chicken and dumplings. Amid all the rumors of work conflict, the two seem to be finding common ground by sharing a meal. Seemingly, this is Vanna’s way of showing there is peace between them as she clarifies their “on and off camera” friendship. Both Vanna and Ryan are filming their first season together for the fall. Furthermore, time will tell how the new duo works together on the Wheel Of Fortune stage.

Fans Aren’t Sure About Vanna White’s Statements

However, after Vanna White posted the photo, not everyone was convinced by her statement. Several Wheel Of Fortune fans left comments.

“There’s no f-in way Vanna can stand Ryan. He’s a massive phony.”
“I don’t think i can believe anything I read in the news anymore!!! Last week I read that they can’t stand each other, and she is thinking about retiring because she doesn’t like how Ryan does the show. They look happy here.”
“Very disappointed that Wheel of Fortune chose Ryan Sescrest as Pat’s replacement. There is plenty talent to choose from. Even an unknown would have been better.”
But one fan thinks Vanna White and Ryan Seacrest need to go. “I will not be watching wheel of Fortune ever again – I absolutely cannot stand fakey Ryan Seacrest, and it’s absolutely time for Vanna to retire.”
“I have a gut feeling that he will be unkind to Vanna and push her out. He’s sketchy.”

Vanna White’s Boyfriend May *Never* Marry Her — and Here’s Why

    Vanna White, Wheel of Fortune

She may be known as Wheel of Fortune‘s letter turner to households across the country, but to Vanna White’s boyfriend, she’s so much more than just a game show host.

White joined Wheel of Fortune in 1982, a year after her co-host, Pat Sajak, replaced Chuck Woolery, as the main face of the game show. In September 2023, news broke that White had renewed her contract with Wheel Fortune for two years through the 2025 to 2026 season. The news came three months after Sajak announced he was retiring as Wheel of Fortune‘s host after more than 40 years in the role. “Well, the time has come. I’ve decided that our 41st season, which begins in September, will be my last,” Sajak said at the time. “It’s been a wonderful ride, and I’ll have more to say in the coming months. Many thanks to you all. (If nothing else, it’ll keep the clickbait sites busy!)”

Ryan Seacrest was announced as Sajak’s replacement, as rumors swirled about White’s dissatisfaction with her salary on the series. “It was because people just have rumors,” White told People in October 2023. “Everything is so blown out of proportion, not just with my stuff, with everybody’s stuff.” She continued, “I’m not going to do anything I don’t want to do or that I don’t believe in. My mother taught me that at a young age and I’m sticking to my guns.”

No, Vanna White doesn’t have a husband. However, she has been married once before. White was married to her ex-husband, restaurant owner George Santo Pietro, from 1990 to 2002. White and Santo Pietro share two children together: a daughter named Gigi, who was born in 1997, and a son named Nikko, who was born in 1994.

While White doesn’t have a current husband, she has been with her boyfriend, John Donaldson, for more than 12 years. In an interview with People in October 2023, White explained why she hasn’t married Donaldson yet and maybe never will. “I mean, we’ve been together 12 years, and I feel like we are married,” she said. “Do we have to get married? No, because we feel comfortable in our relationship. You know what I mean? I know that he’s the one. He knows I’m the one.”

White also revealed that she and Donaldson haven’t discussed the topic of marriage. “We don’t really talk about it, but you never know. I mean, I guess we could, but in my eyes and his eyes, we are married,” White said, describing Donaldson as the “male version” of her. She continued, “We really are very similar. We get along so well. He’s easy. He’s easy, and he lets me be me, and I let him be him.”

White also revealed her secret to her and Donald’s long-lasting relationship. “Don’t be in a relationship because you’re lonely, because if you’re not happy, you’re still lonely,” she said. “Just be who you are, and don’t let anybody change who you are. It’s nice when they make you feel good about yourself, or they love who you are as a person and don’t want to change you. It’s got to be easy.”

Vanna White and her boyfriend, John Donaldson, met in 2012 when a friend brought him to a barbecue she was hosting. Their meeting came a decade after White split from her ex-husband, George Santo Pietro, in 2002. “I remember looking at him and thinking, ‘He’s really cute,’” White told People in 2019. “We ended up talking for a long time that night.” She continued, “It just works. He lets me be me, I let him be him. There is no drama.”

Who is Vanna White’s boyfriend John Donaldson?

Vanna White’s boyfriend John Donaldson was born and raised in Santa Monica, California. He is the owner of the construction company, JDC Construction + Development Group, in California. He is also the president and building developer of the company, which was named John R. Donaldson, Inc until it changed names in July 2014.

“JDC prides itself on its tradesman roots and the insight which years of hands on experience provides to property owners, architects and engineers in developing realistic plans for revitalization projects, as well as finding appropriate solutions to renovation challenges,” the company’s website reads.

The company, which launched in 1987 and is based in Southern California, specializes in “the restoration and rehabilitation of Multifamily properties and now the development of new ground up multifamily projects.” According to the company’s website, Donaldson’s construction career started at a young age when he accepted a job as a laborer in the San Fernando Valley. His early jobs ranged from packing lumber for $5 per hour on a commercial job site to driving around as a carpenter looking for work on framing crews in his neighborhood. Since then, Donaldson has worked his way up to consult on luxury homes Hollywood Hills, California.
