Drew Carey has seen it all during his tenure hosting The Price Is Right, including encounters with contestants who’ve shown up drunk or high.

“Oh, that happens here all the time. They’ll have a gummy or I’ll smell alcohol on their breath,” Carey, 66, told TV Insider in an interview published on Monday, June 24. “Not unusual.”

Carey further recalled meeting one participant who was “tripping on mushrooms” when he arrived at the Price Is Right set.

“He came with a bunch of friends. He was a sketch [comedy] guy. I found out later when I went to [United Citizens Brigade] to hang out and they were like, ‘Did you see that guy who claimed to be a skateboarding rabbi?’” Carey recalled. “I asked him what he did for a living. And he goes, ‘I’m a skateboarding rabbi.’ He didn’t think he was going to get picked, and he totally tripped.”

Carey isn’t judging the contestants for using certain substances to calm their nerves, further noting that his “favorite” part of The Price Is Right is meeting average people.

“They’re normal people that live normal lives. This is average America right here. There are no CEOs, ultra-rich upper management,” Carey said. “These are middle class, working class. Every religion. It’s a cross-section of America. Regular people are more interesting than celebrities.”

He continued, “They’ve all had their own problems to overcome and their own demons, to get their own special lives. I learn more from them than I do from anybody.”

Carey has hosted The Price Is Right since 2007, taking over the role from the late Bob Barker.

“I just show up and punch the clock and hope I have a job every day. I don’t think in terms of I’m the longest one,” he said on Monday. “I do have a goal: I want to keep going until I die. This is my 18th season. I’ve got to get the 35 and 41 so I can catch Bob Barker and [Wheel of Fortune alum] Pat Sajak.”

For Carey, he even tries to keep the same optimistic vibe that Barker maintained on the soundstage.

“Everybody wants to see people win,” Carey told TV Insider. “When you see somebody doing something, like when you’re watching sports or a drama on TV, you’re yelling or thinking to yourself, ‘Don’t date that man in the romantic drama! Don’t go in the basement! Don’t give that guy the ball! Why don’t you pass to this guy?’ Everybody plays along with everything they see and every story they hear. That’s human nature.”

He added, “It’s not my money — it’s CBS’s money, and we’re all trying to take it together.”

The Price Is Right has been a morning TV staple for decades — and the iconic game show has had its fair share of hijinks (and scandals) over the years.

Former longtime host Bob Barker made a rookie mistake during a 1984 episode accidentally telling a contestant named Albert the correct answer before the game was even finished. While playing Pick-A-Pair, Albert was tasked with figuring out which products cost the same price as a can of chili, which ran for $1.59 at the time. On his first attempt, he incorrectly guessed.

“Do you know which one of them is $1.59? The raisins,” Barker — who began hosting the game show in 1972 — said, not realizing his blunder. “The raisins are $1.59. Do you know how I know they’re $1.59?”

After realizing his mistake, Barker stopped himself and laughed, noting that Albert should have a “pretty good chance of winning” now, which made the audience chuckle.

“Don’t stand there and laugh at me,” he quipped. “I’m making a fool of myself, Albert. I’ve been here for all these years, playing this game. You know it well enough, you knew that I was goofing.”

After Barker retired in 2007, Drew Carey was named his successor to the game show. In his second season of hosting, the former Whose Line Is It Anyway? host was faced with a near-scandal that never aired.

In the game of Plinko, contestants try to drop chips down a maze-like board, hoping to land them in the coveted $10,000 slot. While appearing on SiriusXM’s Jeff and Larry’s Comedy Roundup show in February 2021, the Drew Carey Show alum recalled an instance where one contestant got a little too lucky.

“There’s a college girl that got to play Plinko, and she dropped her first three chips right down in the $10,000 spot,” he said, noting that she had beaten a previous record. “People were on their feet, jumping up and down and cheering. I mean, the crowd was going wild. She dropped the fourth chip, the floor director comes over, stops the chip, and leans into me and he goes, ‘The game is fixed.’”

While Carey worried the potential scandal was going to cost him his job, he learned the snafu was an honest mistake. Before the season had begun filming, the game board was used to film a commercial for an upcoming Price Is Right-themed video game. The machine was rigged with a fishing line so the chips would land in the $10,000 spot every time.

Carey went on to explain that the contestant was awarded $30,000 behind the scenes that didn’t count towards her grand-prize total and gave her a new set of Plinko chips to try again.

Drew Carey has revealed that The Price Is Right had a strict “no meat” policy when he originally took over the show in 2007.

“Now, we have fake meat,” Carey, 66, gleefully announced during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Monday, February 24.

Carey was reflecting on the legacy of his Price Is Right predecessor Bob Barker, a noted animal rights advocate who closed every episode of the show by encouraging viewers to have their pets “spayed or neutered.”

“[Barker] was a pioneer in having testicles removed from animals,” host Jimmy Kimmel joked during his interview with Carey.

‘The Price Is Right’ Biggest Mistakes and Wildest Moments Over the Years: Injuries, Revealing the Answers Early and More

Carey explained that Barker’s animal rights stances were adopted by the whole Price Is Right staff, so there was no real meat – or even fake meat – anywhere on set in those days.

“[Barker] really walked the walk,” the comic said. “People don’t know, I was telling [a Jimmy Kimmel Live!] producer, before I was the host, The Price Is Right was a vegan show. Like, they had no meat products. They had no leather goods [as prizes].”

According to Carey, The Price Is Right‘s “no meat” policy went so far as to strictly show fake veggies as props on the grills being given away as prizes on the show.

“They never had plastic meat,” he declared. “They wouldn’t even show fake meat. It would just be all vegetables, asparagus and stuff!”

Carey confirmed that he had the policy changed once he took over from Barker, who retired in 2007 after 35 years as The Price Is Right‘s host. Kimmel offered a tongue-in-cheek suggestion that Barker may have had “the right idea” since he lived to age 99 before his death in August 2023.

“Maybe we should stop eating those plastic steaks,” the ABC talk show host quipped.

Carey celebrates the milestone 10,000th episode of The Price Is Right on Wednesday, February 26. In a recent interview with Us Weekly, he admitted he initially had “no idea’ how long he’d last as Barker’s replacement.

Drew Carey Says 'Price Is Right' Contestants Show Up Drunk or High 'All the Time'

“I mainly didn’t want to get the show canceled or be responsible for ruining such an institution,” he remembered. “Once I got comfortable after a couple of years, it felt like it was more my show instead of me just being a steward of somebody else’s. And now I just want to do it forever, as long as I’m mentally and physically able to show up. It’s such a fun thing! The money’s nice, but it’s just a cool job. I don’t have to go to work, I get to go to work! It’s a privilege to be here, an honor. So we’ll see how long I hold up.”

The comedian has seen The Price Is Right through numerous memorable on-air disasters, including one notorious segment from 2023 when a contestant dislocated his shoulder after winning a game of Bonkers. When it came time for the injured contestant to spin the Big Wheel, Carey improvised by having the player’s wife fill in.

2009-2015 Bob Barker Through the Years

In December 2024, the host repeatedly poked fun at The Price Is Right‘s “judgmental” studio audience after they reacted negatively to a contestant’s strategy for the iconic game Switcheroo.

Prior to joining the CBS game show, Carey starred in more than 200 episodes of classic ABC comedy series The Drew Carey Show and hosted the American version of improv comedy competition Whose Line Is It Anyway? from 1998 to 2007.

The Price Is Right airs weekdays on CBS at 11 a.m. ET. Jimmy Kimmel Live! airs weeknights on ABC at 11:35 p.m. ET.

Star Kat Dennings just dropped a worrying update about Season 2, leaving fans in suspense. The actress hinted at major delays and unforeseen challenges behind the scenes, casting a shadow of doubt over the show’s highly anticipated return

“We’re All on Pins and Needles”: ‘Shifting Gears’ Star Kat Dennings Delivers Worrying Season 2 Update

Tim Allen and Kat Dennings in Shifting Gears

Shifting Gears wrapped up its 10-episode first season on ABC last night, but whether the Tim Allen-led sitcom will return for a second season remains uncertain. In a new interview, Kat Dennings, who plays Riley, shared her thoughts on the show’s political undertones, her experience working with Allen, and the nerve-wracking wait for a renewal decision.

The Shifting Gears Season 1 finale left things on a major cliffhanger, with Seann William Scott’s character professing his love for Dennings Riley. Despite strong ratings, the cast and crew are still waiting on news of a renewal. Dennings said:

“No, we haven’t [heard anything]. Of course, we’re all on pins and needles about it, but hopefully we will. You just never know with TV, but we’ve gotten such great numbers and I’ve heard that people are happy. So who knows? I’m a very negative person, so I never expect anything to happen.”

Even if the series continues for multiple seasons, Dennings is open to her character staying in the same living situation for a while. “I think the beauty of this is that I can conceive it”, Dennings continued. “She might end up there for five seasons or maybe in Season 3 she does move out. Who knows though? There’s also her brother, Sam, who we’ve never seen before. He’s in the military, who will come in, hopefully, in future seasons.”

    Will ‘Shifting Gears’ Be Renewed?

    Kat Dennings | Collider
While no official decision has been made, the audience’s enthusiasm for Shifting Gears is reflected in its impressive ratings.

According to Nielsen data from last month, the sitcom has been averaging over 11 million viewers on Wednesdays, surpassing major competition like CBS’s hit supernatural comedy Ghosts and the Young Sheldon spin-off Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriagebut despite that, ABC hasn’t actually confirmed a second season yet.

Despite that, there is clear enthusiasm from both the cast and the fans of the series to see it continue, and it may simply just be a matter of timing and waiting to strike when the iron is hot. Once all the season finale press is done, ABC may well decide that that is the time to announce what must be considered an inevitability at this point.

For now, the future of the show is in their hands, and fans will have to wait to see what ABC decides for the future of the series.

Shifting Gears is available to stream now on Hulu.

“The Voice” Rocked by Shocking Upset! New Twists and Unforeseen Challenges Are Shaking Up Season 28 Before a Single Note Is Sung. Get ready for a major shake-up that leaves fans and coaches reeling as the biggest change in show history looms on the horizon

The Voice hit by unexpected upset ahead of season 28 shake-up

The NBC competition show has fallen behind

Is The Voice losing its appeal?

The beloved NBC music competition has been on the air since 2011 for 27 seasons, when the founding judges were Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, and CeeLo Green.

In that time, it has earned a whopping 86 Emmy nominations across the awards’ many categories, however, that wasn’t the case this year.

    The Voice’s 2024 judges

For the first time since 2012, The Voice didn’t earn any nominations within the Television Academy’s main awards, losing out on its chance to win its fourth Emmy.

It did however earn some Creative Arts nods, the branch of the Emmys that focuses on technical, creative and craft categories, including Outstanding Picture Editing for a Structured Reality or Competition Program, Outstanding Hairstyling for a Variety, Nonfiction, or Reality Program, Outstanding Lighting Design/Lighting Direction for a Series, Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Reality Program, Outstanding Technical Direction and Camerawork for a Series.

In place of The Voice, Survivor is back in the game in the Outstanding Reality Competition Program category, after failing to earn a nomination last year.

Others in the category are RuPaul’s Drag Race, Shark Tank, Top Chef, and fan favorite The Traitors.

    What’s next for season 28

The Emmys upset comes amid a major cast change for the upcoming 28th season, as not one, not two, but three of the four judges are not coming back, making Michael Bublé, who first joined for season 26 in 2024, the only judge staying on.

Nick Jonas was a judge on various seasons of ‘The Voice’

Adam, a founding judge alongside Blake, who has since also left the show, initially departed in 2019, and this season was his first (and apparently only) back on the chair. He confirmed as much during an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, declaring: “I am gonna confirm the rumors are true.” He added: “The rumors are correct. There are details. I cannot divulge all the details.”

Meanwhile Kelsea Ballerini, who made her debut as judge this season, is eager to lay low for a while. Speaking with ExtraTV, she confessed: “I’m going to hibernate for a while,” and emphasized she is going to “disappear for a bit.”

Last but certainly not least, John Legend is also leaving, however he has been more mum about it and what his summer plans are. While he hasn’t opened up much about it this time around, he has taken breaks from The Voice before, and when he didn’t come back for season 26, he told Entertainment Tonight: “We’ve always got so many things going on. I’ll be doing a lot of shows this summer and traveling overseas this summer.”

As for who to expect on the judges panel next season alongside Michael? Well three may be leaving, but expect some familiar faces back on those swivel chairs! Previous judges and fan-favorites Reba McEntire, Niall Horan and Snoop Dogg have all been confirmed to be coming back for season 28.

Finding out your child has a chronic autoimmune disease can be devastating, but the support of loved ones can make it easier. Singer John Legend’s 7-year-old son Miles has Type 1 diabetes but thankfully, his siblings are loving him through it.

In an interview with PEOPLE, Legend, 46, shared an update on how Miles and his siblings are doing since being diagnosed.

John Legend shares update on son's Type 1 diabetes diagnosis | SHEmazing!

In 2024, the award-winning singer’s wife, Chrissy Teigen, revealed that their eldest son had been diagnosed with the health condition. Legend shares Miles, as well as daughters Luna and Esti, and son Wren, with wife Chrissy Teigen.

“The younger ones don’t really know what’s going on, but when they see the devices and things he has to wear, they sometimes have questions,” Legend told PEOPLE.

Type 1 diabetes is a chronic autoimmune disease in which the immune system destroys insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas. As a result, the pancreas is unable to create insulin.

“His condition is also building grit in him, and as a family, I think it’s building it in us as well because we are all rallying together to support him,” he added.

The EGOT winner has also been a beacon of support, recently attending a summer DYF diabetes camp in Yosemite with the seven-year-old, where he got to engage with kids his own age and counselors with diabetes. The camp aims to improve the quality of life for youths living with diabetes through education and community engagement.

In September, the All of Me singer also told PEOPLE how Miles’ diagnosis has brought his family closer together.

“My personality is one where I’m very optimistic and I’m very practical,” Legend said. “As soon as I learned that he had this I knew it was going to be life-changing for him and for us, but I’m also like, ‘We can do this.’ We’ve got great advice and lots of people offering support to help us learn.”

“This speaks to us feeling like a team,” he said of Teigen, “and knowing we can do this together. It just makes us stronger.”

While life throws us curveballs that are often beyond our control, Legend reminds us that the support of loved ones can make navigating challenges easier.

Music superstar Michael Bublé has won five Grammys, sold millions of records, and won back-to-back seasons of “The Voice.” But on June 12, 2025, he announced on social media that the “greatest moment of my career” had arrived with the return of Disney’s animated “Phineas and Ferb.” The animated series is back after 10 years, including a cameo from Bublé, which felt like a full circle moment for him.

“Phineas and Ferb” aired from 2007 to 2015, and follows two ingenious brothers making the most of their summer vacations. Although Bublé’s role is funny, getting to be part of it was extremely meaningful to me. The show was a bright spot for Bublé’ during the countless hours he and his wife spent by their son Noah’s side as he battled cancer, the singer shared in his social media video.

“Not going to lie,” Bublé captioned his video, “being a part of Phineas and Ferb was a real ‘what is my life!?’ moment, in the best possible way!”

Michael Bublé Says His Family Watched ‘Phineas & Ferb’ Throughout His Son’s Cancer Treatment

In Bublé’s video, he shared a heartwarming story of how his family used to watch “Phineas and Ferb” after his son Noah, whom he shares with his wife, actress Luisana Lopilato, was diagnosed with cancer at age three in 2016.

“So, brief story,” Bublé began his selfie video, filmed as he drove. “Years ago, when my son was going through his health battle and we were in the hospital, every single morning and night we would watch ‘Phineas and Ferb.’”

“We would have dance parties,” he smiled, and began to sing the theme song. “Listen, it was the best.”

Bublé revealed that he eventually befriended one of the show’s co-creators, explaining “Years later, I would find Dan Povenmire on TikTok and I would write him and tell him that … he had brought so much light into my life. And we had lunch and we became buddies.”

“And years later, ‘Phineas and Ferb’ come back and he asked me if I would be part of it and I jumped at the chance,” Bublé continued. “Well, ladies and gentleman, season five of ‘Phineas and Ferb’ is here and the greatest moment of my career has come.”

He noted, “I am now singing ‘Tropey McTropeFace.’ I hope you dig it as much as I do. Dan, team, you’re such beautiful people, thanks for having me. And man, I get to be part of ‘Phineas and Ferb!’ How cool.”

In 2023, Bublé told Steven Bartlett on his “Diary of a CEO” podcast, “My son’s cancer diagnosis rocked my world and pulled the curtain from over my eyes. That was a sledgehammer to my reality. I will never be carefree again in my life, and that’s okay. It is a privilege for me to exist. That pain, the fear, the suffering that comes with those sort of things, I guess it’s part of this beautiful life.”

Fans loved hearing why being part of “Phineas and Ferb” holds so much meaning for Bublé, including one who wrote in the comment section of his post, “Absolutely incredible. Talk about coming full circle ❤️ We are the lucky ones getting to watch you bring so much joy and happiness through your God given talents. God bless you, Michael, and your beautiful family ❤️”

Co-creator Povenmire commented, “Now we have to have you back” and Bublé replied, “put me in coach ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️”

Country diva Reba McEntire has saddled up for a new season of The Voice alongside fellow coaches Snoop DoggMichael Bublé and Niall Horan — but insiders tell Globe that she’s embracing her queen bee status and some are feeling stung by her imperious attitude.

“Bosses are thrilled to have Reba back, and it took a lot of coddling because she’s a busy lady. But she’s back and quickly making her presence known,” an insider says.

“Her fellow judges like Reba, but she’s cocky and a take-charge character. It’s always all about her — whether she intends it to be or not. They’re going into it a bit wary and not too pleased because she’s effectively another boss.”

According to the source, the powers that be for the singing contest have made it clear that whatever Reba says goes, and coworkers don’t like it one bit. The NBC hit began filming in early July but spies claim the atmosphere is already getting tense.

“Reba — always the center of attention — has been hogging the spotlight ever since it was announced that she was coming back for season 28,” the insider confides.

The “Fancy” singer, 70, recently took to Instagram to share a glamorous photo of herself on the set in one of The Voice’s iconic red judging chairs — calling it her “other Happy Place,” in a not-so-subtle reference to her latest sitcom, Happy’s Place.

The Nashville legend also added: “I’ve got my game face on and I’m ready to WIN.”

The insider notes, “Clearly, Reba is the producers’ darling, and she knows it. She’s already stepping on her coworkers’ toes. It’s not that she does it intentionally. She’s very friendly and outgoing. But she’s extremely confident and has an opinion about everything — and it’s getting on some people’s nerves!”

As Globe readers know, Reba is well-versed when it comes to working on The Voice. She previously served as a coach for seasons 24, 25 and 26 — and was a Battle Advisor in season 1 and a Mega Mentor in season 23.

Adds the insider, “She’s thrilled to be back. Unfortunately, not everyone shares the sentiment.”
