Voice fans, you’re going to want to sit down for this. The beloved NBC singing competition just released a major bombshell about season 29 on their official Instagram, and fans are not happy.

The premise for The Voice season 29, debuting in Spring 2026, is ‘Battle of the Champions,’ where winning veteran coaches will duke it out for the title of ‘Best Voice Coach.’

In the July 22 Instagram post, the network revealed the coach lineup for season 29, which includes John LegendKelly Clarkson and Adam Levine. The announcement included only three coaches, a stark change to the series’ previous 28 seasons, which all featured four coaches.

The post was accompanied by the caption, “John Legend, Kelly Clarkson and Adam Levine face off in the Battle of Champions, coming Spring 2026. #TheVoice | @NBC and Peacock”

Fans have reacted to the announcement with mixed emotions — excited to see some of their Voice favorites back but less than pleased about the missing fourth chair.

“ONLY THREE COACHES?? BATTLE OF THE CHAMPIONS??” wrote one commenter.

“👀 Wait who’s the 4th coach?” said another.

Others are rallying for their celebrity coach-of-choice to make a return.

“WHOS THE 4TH PERSONN?!?!?!!! BLAKEYYYYY????” wrote one commenter, referring to Blake Shelton.

Another added, “What about the love of my life @michaelbuble 😍”

A third commented, “I want kelsea back.”

While many fans are wondering whether a fourth coach will be announced closer to the show’s season 29 air date, NBC has confirmed the spring season will only feature three coaches.

However, for the In-Season All-Star Competition, NBC has confirmed The Voice Season 1 Coach CeeLo Green will be back as a guest judge. So there will be four judges at some point during the season.

While the format change has many fans bummed, we’re excited to see what John, Kelly and Adam will have in store for the new season. Knowing them, it’s sure to be something entertaining. May the best coach win!

Ryan Seacrest had what appeared to some like a blunder on Wheel of Fortune recently.

Contestant Cody Hunger, who secured a spot in the final game of the BetMGM Big Winners Tournament, was doing the Bonus Round on the October 4 episode of the puzzle game show. He selected “Phrase” as the category for the round. After his final spin, he picked additional letters: “C, D, Y, O.” The additional letters spell his name which is something Cody has done before on a previous Wheel of Fortune game when he was doing the Bonus Round.

Cody guessed “Out of the way” and while Vanna White smiled and clasped her hand together after he answered, Ryan did not say anything. There was brief pause where Cody and the audience was not sure if he had won. Then Ryan finally spoke, saying his name first in what sounded like an almost questioning way and then he followed with the exciting news: “That’s it!.” and “Congratulations!”

As Ryan confirmed the win with a big grin, the iconic letter-turner allowed herself to fully react by putting her hands up in the air and clapping for Cody. Cody ended up winning the $94,900 jackpot as confetti cascaded on the studio and he was joined by his friends.

The pause did not go unnoticed by fans as a fan made a thread about it on the Wheel of Fortune subreddit. They titled their post “How about that pause” and went to express their thoughts of the “nightmare” Ryan put Cody through. They wrote: “What a nightmare for the guy as he had to wait for Ryan to wake up and tell him he got the puzzle. Vanna was clapping as soon as he said it!”

Some agreed with the original poster while others thought Ryan’s pause was intentional and was used to create “suspense.” On fan wrote: “my dude forgot how to host.” A second fan said: ” It was quite awkward.” Another fan said: “The pause, I believe, is due to the producers wanting to build up Drama…it’s happened a few times now with Ryan…Not a fan of the way the show’s being produced since he’s taken over the lead…Jusss Saying…” A fourth fan agreed, saying: “Yeah this was filmed months ago. If it were actually a mistake it would have been edited out. They did the pause on purpose to build suspense.”

A contestant on The Price Is Right pointed out a change in Drew Carey’s appearance recently. The game show host has undergone some significant transformations over the years, but what has he changed now? Keep reading to find out.

Contestant Points Out A Change In Drew Carey’s Face

Drew Carey has been the face of The Price Is Right for nearly 17 years. During that time, viewers have seen him undergo various changes in appearance. Most notably, he’s lost a lot of weight in that time. However, that isn’t what a recent contestant on the show pointed out.

David, a barber from Pasadena, California, was brought down to The Price Is Right stage. As he chatted with Drew before taking his turn, David spoke with the game show host about his hair grooming habits.

“What’s up man, nice to see you! Welcome to the show,” Drew said, shaking David’s hand. The contestant replied, “Thank you so much,” and then spoke about his job as a barber.

“I was wondering when you’re going to grow your beard back?” David asked The Price Is Right host. He gestured toward his own long beard.

“Oh, I don’t know. I just got tired of it,” Drew responded, rubbing his own chin. Then David pointed out Drew’s soul patch, saying that it is “looking good.” Drew Carey complimented the man back, telling him that his beard looked “great.”

Drew Carey Never Saw Himself On The Price Is Right, But Loves It

The Price Is Right host recently participated in an interview with TV Insider. During the conversation, Drew revealed that many of the contestants on the game show will show up to the studio smelling like booze.

“Oh, that happens here all the time,” he said. “They’ll have a gummy or I’ll smell alcohol on their breath. Not unusual. There was a guy here that was tripping on mushrooms.”

He also opened up about his future on the game show. Drew has mentioned several times that he doesn’t plan on retiring from The Price Is Right any time soon.

The Whose Line Is It Anyway? star initially took over for Bob Barker when he retired. Drew has admitted that he never saw himself in the role of game show host, but he has embraced the job over the years.

Now, he has a lot of fun hosting the show and plans to do everything he can to keep it on the air.

“And I want to be a good steward of the show, so I don’t screw it up and wreck it from the very beginning,” he said, as the anniversary of Bob Barker’s death approaches. “I just wanted to make sure it was always on.”

Drew Carey is known for making jokes in his role as host of The Price is Right, notably when he recently asked to marry a contestant. During a recent episode, Carey made a joke concerning one of the show’s models. However, his comments ended up rubbing some fans the wrong way.

One Price Is Right Contestant Got A Chance At A New Car

Throughout the show, the models help to reveal prices and celebrate with contestants. Some of the current models on the show include Manuela Arbelaez, Amber Lancaster, and Rachel Reynolds.

In one recent episode, a contestant got to try her luck with the “Let ‘Em Roll,” getting the chance to win a new car. Similar to Yahtzee, the game involves five dice. Contestants get one roll with the chance to earn more by guessing the relative price of grocery items.
Drew Carey - YouTube (1)Drew Carey – YouTube
The player can win a car if the dice reveals a car symbol. However, they can also earn cash amounts. After landing on cash, one contestant, Michele decided to roll again instead of walking away with the money.

This spurred Carey to reveal a little about one of the show’s models. “She’s gonna roll again. Thank you, Manuela,” said Drew as the model collected the dic. He then revealed, “Manuela used to work in a casino in Colombia…when she was young.” He also joked that she couldn’t talk about it.

In the end, Michele ended up winning the new car she wanted after all. Drew congratulated her and even high-fived Arbelaez.

Some Fans Came To Manuela’s Defense Online

On social media, some fans took issue with Carey talking about Manuela’s previous line of work. As one fan suspected on instagram, “He has beef with Manuela.”

Another wrote, “For real! ‘When she was young,’” pairing it with a skull emoji. One commenter also replied, “People need to stop making fun of Manuela Arbelaez when she’s on TPIR.”

As another shared, “This man just roasting Manuela for no reason.” One commenter especially came to the model’s defense, saying “Manuela is a SAINT! He needs to show some damn respect!”

As noted by Monsters & Critics, Arbelaez was born in Colombia and has since become a naturalized American. Back in 2008, she competed in The Price Is Right Model search. She didn’t win, but made such an impression on the production that she became a permanent model for the show anyway the following year.

The Wheel of Fortune host had a full circle moment involving his first Seacrest Studios location.

preview for Ryan Seacrest's Net Worth Is Jaw-Dropping

Ryan Seacrest is a busy man these days, but he carves time in his schedule for a cause that’s close to his heart.

Back in 2010, the American Idol and Wheel of Fortune host used his philanthropic Ryan Seacrest Foundation to give back to children who are being treated at hospitals all over the country. He made an initiative to create “Seacrest Studios,” or state-of-the-art media centers that allowed the patients to explore the world of media that Ryan lives in every day. In November of that year, Ryan opened the first of the studios at the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta in his hometown of Atlanta, Georgia.

Ryan has since opened up a total of 14 locations across the United States, but he wanted to give some love to his home base by renovating his first “Seacrest Studio” to include the latest technology. What’s more, he went down to Atlanta on October 11 to celebrate the grand reopening with his family and loved ones.

“From the very first studio to this incredible new space!” he wrote alongside a photo uploaded on Instagram. “Glad to be back to celebrate the grand reopening of #SeacrestStudios at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Arthur M. Blank Hospital.”

If Ryan’s touching return to the Children’s Hospital of Atlanta wasn’t enough, he had one more amazing story to tell in an Instagram video. As it turned out, one of the guests in attendance happened to be a young girl named Leah, who was in treatment when the first Seacrest Studios opened. At the time, she was the first person interviewed in the media center, and more than a decade later, she is now one of the nurses working at the hospital that treated her.

Between ‘Jeopardy!’ and ‘Wheel of Fortune,’ the Fate of Your Favorite Game Shows Might Not Look Like What You Think

’What That CBS and Sony Dispute Means for ‘Jeopardy!’ and ‘Wheel of Fortune

As the battle over syndication rights heats up, game show staples such as Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! are heading for an unexpected future that will change how (and where) fans watch them, forever. While many shows still air on network television and have actual premiere dates that fans count down and wait through commercials for, more commonly, we see them pop up on Netflix or some other streaming service with a full season ready to binge. Or, the show will air its episode live on television and be ready to stream on its desired platform the next day. This is both a blessing and a curse, and it looks like we can expect a similar track for classic game shows.

How exactly does it affect them, you may ask? Well, Matt Roush, TV critic for TV Insider, has shed some light on the fate of your favorite game shows and what they may look like in the wake of a streaming frenzy.

Will ‘Jeopardy!’ and ‘Wheel of Fortune’ Be Moving to Streaming?

Brad and Stephanie earn negative scores on 'Jeopardy' preventing them from playing Final Jeopardy.

Given that even game shows, which have been such an unwavering staple on network television for years, are trying to keep up with the times by repeatedly swapping hosts for more relevant and timely personalities, audiences worry that these shows will eventually move to streaming. Roush shared his opinions on this sentiment:

”An understandable concern, given the way the marketplace is heading, but the new deal for these shows to stream a day after premiere on Hulu and Peacock is to increase, not limit, their availability. Both shows are renewed for syndication through the 2027-28 season, and I expect as long as they’re profitable, which they most certainly are, they’ll remain on air for all to see for the foreseeable future.”

As Roush says, so long as they remain profitable while airing on television, there should be no worries about classic game shows like Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune moving to streaming platforms solely. There’s currently no concern about that, especially in Wheel of Fortune’s case, since audience engagement was high in Season 42, despite longtime host Pat Sajak departing, and Ryan Seacrest taking over. It probably helps that, even though the show hasn’t gone fully modern by way of streaming, they have really upped their social media game, which has given fans more backstage goofiness between Vanna White and Seacrest that is enjoyable to see.

‘Wheel of Fortune’ and ‘Jeopardy!’ Are Changing With the Times

    Ryan-Seacrest-Wheel-of-Fortune

Since the day they first premiered, both Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! have been available to watch only on network television. But, after a long battle over syndication rights, the shows are moving with the times and are being put on streaming services. Beginning in the fall with the respective new seasons of both shows, both Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! will be streaming next day for the first time ever on Hulu, Peacock, and Hulu on Disney+.

The power struggle over the shows has been an ongoing battle for months, and is only now being wrapped up by this deal. It may not be ideal, but it shouldn’t be all that surprising really, since most shows are going the streaming route, even if it is just streaming new episodes the next day. But fear not, both Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! will still be available to watch on network television, just like they always have been. It’s a big change, but it’s one that will hopefully be easily adaptable, and will only boost audience ratings and make the shows even better for the years to come.

The new seasons of Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! premiere in Sept. 2025.

‘Wheel of Fortune’ Viewers Demand Changes. A recent debate has arisen about one of America’s favorite game shows after a disappointing prize reveal.

    wheel-of-fortune-01

A recent debate has arisen about one of America’s favorite game shows after a disappointing prize reveal. Wheel of Fortune is known for adding fabulous prizes that the contestants compete to win. As they spin for a chance to land on the wedge with the largest cash amount, a surprise vacation, or substantial prizes like recreational vehicles or automobiles, contestants do their best to solve each puzzle quickly, so that they will be the one to advance to the final spin. But a recent episode’s disappointing final prize ignited online backlash against the perceived decline in prize quality on the series.

Fans Went Haywire After This ‘Wheel of Fortune’ Prize Reveal

Ricky Lowery on 'Wheel of Fortune'

Earlier this March, contestant Ricky Lowery won the opportunity to spin the wheel in the final round to compete for some of the biggest prizes the show has to offer. Series host Ryan Seacrest reminded the man from Fresno, Texas, that the wheel offered him the chance to spin for prizes of $100,000, $75,000, and a car. Lowery then went on to attempt to solve the final puzzle in the category “Phrase,” choosing the letters G, H, D, and A, in addition to the standard letters famously given to the contestants in the final round, R, S, T, L, N, and E. Unfortunately, Lowery wasn’t able to piece together the solution to the puzzle, which was the phrase “Gone Haywire.”

When it was revealed that the prize Lowery had lost was the car that had been up for grabs, it didn’t add to the excitement of the episode, since many viewers felt that the car that was offered was disappointing in the first place. The prize was a Mini Cooper, made by BMW, but its value was only around $40,000, and online commentators were quick to point out the negative qualities of the prize.

    Jeporardy ken jennings 4

Some noted that even if Lowery had won the vehicle, it might not even be worth the tax he would have to pay on it. Others commented that the prize should have been a vehicle of higher value, to make it more appealing. Plus, on a practical note, Lowery was significantly taller than Seacrest, which also suggested he might not even have use for the diminutive vehicle.

Win or Lose, the Final Spin Is Supposed To Be Exciting

The reveal of which prize the contestant landed on in the final spin near the conclusion of the episode is often the most exciting part of the series, whether the contestant solved the final puzzle or not. Even if the prize hidden behind the envelope was one of the less significant amounts of prize money, the moment of the reveal adds excitement to the episode. But, when the prize on the line is a car that lacks luster, it isn’t exciting, win or lose.

The most exciting prizes are, of course, the highest valued. If the $100,000 prize is behind the final envelope, it is exciting just to see the amount show up at all, whether the contestant solved the final puzzle or not. If they end up winning, their reaction is infectious as their joy and disbelief add to the viewing experience. The same can be said of their disappointment if they had failed to solve the puzzle.

But when the prize on the line is an arguably eclectic vehicle that many feel underwhelmed by, whether the contestant wins or loses out on the final prize, it doesn’t add to the excitement in the episode. Rather, it only seems to cause viewers to wonder if the legacy game show is losing its luster.

Contestants come to “The Price is Right” hoping to drive away with a car, but to win four prizes in the same game with a thrilling finish is a dream come true. A player named Madison pulled off the miraculous feat, as she was running against time in the ‘Race Game,’ and she nearly lost it all before making a correction with less than a second remaining on the clock. In the end, she took home a collection of prizes and a chance to win big in the “Showcase Showdown”.
Screenshot showing the winning moment (Image source: YouTube/The Price Is Right)Screenshot showing the winning moment (Image source: YouTube/The Price Is Right)
In the Race Game, the player is presented with four prizes and given four price tags, one for each of the items. The centerpiece is a large screen with a lever on the side. To win the game, the player has 45 seconds to place the price tags correctly in front of each prize. While attempting this, they can run back to the screen and pull the lever to find out how many items had the right price tags. However, the screen doesn’t show which of the items are correctly priced.
Screenshot showing the set up for the game (Image source: YouTube/The Price Is Right)Screenshot showing the set up for the game (Image source: YouTube/The Price Is Right)
The contestant can do this as many times as they can before the time runs out. During the game, if the screen shows the number ‘4’, that means the contestant has got the prices of all items right to win everything. However, if the clock runs out, the contestants get to keep the number of items that they priced correctly. The only way to win nothing in the game is if the player gets none of the prices right in 45 seconds.

For Madison’s game, the first prize was a collection of Michael Kors’ designer hats, a reversible leather belt, a trifold wallet, a bottle of cologne, a silver bracelet, and a woman’s belt. The second prize included a photo booth, a camera, a shell, an LED ring light, and a printer. The third prize was a walk-in steam shower, and the final prize was an oak bar with two barstools and bar equipment. She was given the four price tags, $2,680,  $3,447, $790, and $1,536.
Screenshot showing Madison playing the game (Image source: YouTube/The Price Is Right)Screenshot showing Madison playing the game (Image source: YouTube/The Price Is Right)
After Carey started the timer, Madison made the first rearrangement and pulled the lever. Since she got only two prices correct, she ran off and swapped two price tags. However, in her second pull, the screen showed that she had only one price tag right, which meant that she had made another mistake. Finally, after taking suggestions from the audience, Madison made her final adjustment and pulled on the lever with just one second remaining. The screen showed ‘4’, which meant that she had won everything.

“Good for you. You figured it out!” Carey exclaimed as the player jumped in joy. She then ran over to check out the prizes with utter shock on her face.

Jimmy Kimmel’s Worst Nightmare Becomes a Reality on ‘Who Wants To Be a Millionaire’ When Ken Jennings Sides With His Enemy

Who Wants to Be a Millionaire season premiere kicked off on a hilarious note when Jeopardy! host Ken Jennings shocked host Jimmy Kimmel by bringing “arch nemesis” Matt Damon onstage as his surprise trivia partner.

Damon and Kimmel have had a longstanding fake feud, which started as a late-night joke when Kimmel repeatedly ended Jimmy Kimmel Live! by saying he had to bump Damon as a guest. Over the past few years, the joke feud ended up in comedy routines and roasts, often involving Ben Affleck. Damon’s unexpected arrival reignited the legendary rivalry, “blindsiding” Kimmel and nearly turning the game into a full-blown comedy sketch. But did trivia king Jennings and Kimmel’s arch-nemesis leave victorious?

The ‘Millionaire’ Premiere Reignited An Old Feud Between Jimmy Kimmel and Matt Damon

Jimmy Kimmel and Matt Damon in couples therapy

Having his rival on the stage allowed Kimmel to truly sharpen his tools, and his rapid-fire insults towards Damon significantly livened the gameplay. When a clue came up about A Minecraft Movie, Damon claimed he was too busy on set to have seen the film yet, while Kimmel quipped that “the good people” in the room already had. Jennings then asked why he was suddenly the target of Kimmel’s insults, to which the late-night host replied it was because he’d been the one to bring Damon, a “scroungy animal,” referencing the actor’s lengthy beard for his current role in The Odyssey, onto the show.

Kimmel acted betrayed by Jennings for secretly joining forces with his nemesis, and took every opportunity to insult the actor’s intelligence and point out his inability to weigh in on certain clues. He asked Damon if that was how things would normally work when writing with Affleck, letting his partner do all the work. When Kimmel ran out of this kind of banter, it was right back to mocking the beard, making the comment that Damon looked “like a homeless wizard.” In spite of Kimmel’s “attacks,” Jennings and Damon swept the board all the way up to the $250,000 mark, before the timer ran out, ending their run on the premiere episode with their earnings going to the charity water.org. This means that the pair will continue next week, ensuring Kimmel will have to put up with Damon’s presence on his stage for yet another episode before the pair cash out for their charity.

‘Millionaire’s Fourth Season Is Off to a Strong Start

While it was Jennings and Damon who stole the show in the premiere episode of the season, they weren’t the only celebrities to grace the stage. The episode opened with an unexpected pairing: comedian Drew Carey and actress Aisha Tyler took the stage together. To make their connection clear, Carey clarified that they both share the same agent, and have each hosted the series Whose Line Is It Anyway? Tyler also commented that she felt like she and Carey were like siblings, before pointing out she had worn her reading glasses to drive the comparison home.

Carey and Tyler worked seamlessly together, right up until the $64,000 that asked them to answer which pop-diva had 11 #1 top 100 hits: Whitney HoustonCeline DionTina Turner, or Britney Spears. Carey seemed to be leaning toward Houston, whereas Tyler sided with the audience poll that favored Spears, locking in the incorrect answer that cost them their chance to move forward. Despite their loss, the mismatched pair still ended up earning $32,000 for their charities, International Rescue Committee and La Maida Project. When Jennings then joined Kimmel on stage, the late-night host joked that the last time they saw each other socially, the Jeopardy! host told him that he thought Millionaire was the more challenging of the two quiz shows. Viewers will have to wait until next week to see if having Damon at his side was enough to even the score.

Who Wants to Be a Millionaire airs Wednesday night at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.

The Voice Season 24 Battle Rounds continued apace Tuesday, and when two of Reba McEntire’s contestants, crooners Mac Royals and Rachele Ngyuen, were assigned “How Deep Is Your Love,” Mac described the Bee Gees’ Saturday Night Fever end-credits ballad as “one of the most iconic and beautifully written songs of all time.” And that was not hyperbole. The song really is that perfect.

So, it made absolutely no sense when Mac then audaciously and somewhat blasphemously decided to stray far from the song’s beloved melody, so that he and Rachele could “give the people a little of what we do and what we like.” Reba, who is proving to be a refreshingly real straight-shooter this season, was quick to shut that strategy down during rehearsals.

Or, at least, she tried to shut it down.

“Mac, I didn’t think you were hearing the beat. You kind of went in a different direction on it,” a mildly perturbed Reba observed, as she wisely warned both singers not to change up the classic tune too drastically. “The reason we pick the songs we do is because of familiarity. … [Fans] want something they can sing along to. When you’re singing a song that is so well-known as ‘How Deep Is Your Love,’ you need to stay with the melody [viewers] remember, so [they] can sing with you and be a part of the show.”

Mac nodded in seeming agreement, so I still expected the buttery-voiced busker-by-day to excel over less experienced teenager Rachele. But honestly, neither of them did the Bee Gees’ classic much justice. Their vocals didn’t blend well, despite Reba pairing them because they were both from the “R&B space.” Rachele’s off-the-rails wailing was try-hard and cloying. But, most vexingly, Mac was constantly singing behind the beat, against his coach’s clear wishes, presumably on purpose in an attempt to make the song his own.

After their Battle Rounds performance, tough-lovin’ Reba was quick to chastise Mac onstage for his questionable artistic decisions, bluntly stating: “Mac, I still wish we could have stayed with the Bee Gees’ version of the opening, because that kind of threw me again — as it did in our rehearsals.”

Reba ultimately chose Rachele, who at least tried to take direction this week, but John Legend surprisingly stole Mac, explaining that Mac has “the kind of voice I love to listen to, right in my wheelhouse.” But really, if any performance should have been montaged Tuesday, it was this one. Instead, four other singers from John’s supposedly stacked team had their Battles inexplicably edited down to mere blink-and-you’ll-miss-‘em seconds.

Here’s how the rest of Tuesday’s Battles — the good, the bad, and the montaged — played out:

TEAM NIALL: Nini Iris vs. Sophia Hoffman, “Heart of Glass”

Nini turned four chairs at her Blind Audition, while returning contestant Sophia turned no chairs when she tried out in Season 23 last spring. So, this Battle definitely seemed like a Davey/Goliath situation. There was also the legitimate concern, which Niall Horan voiced, that Blondie’s Studio 54 floor-filler “could easily turn into a karaoke song” if either contestant didn’t nail the right rock ‘n’ roll vibe. Niall didn’t need to worry about that at first, because the intro’s slowed-to-a-crawl, almost gothic arrangement was markedly different from the 1979 original. But once the house band’s wocka-wocka hustle beats kicked in and the girls started bouncing and bopping around, their disco performance did veer into drunken-bachelorette-party territory. Nini ultimately elevated the moment with her raw charisma and theatrical presentation; in other words, Goliath won this Battle. Niall thought both women “sang the roof off this place” and hoped one of the other coaches would swoop in for the Steal to alleviate his guilt, but this round was the last dance for Sophia.

    WINNER: Nini Iris

TEAM GWEN: Calla Prejean vs. Chechi Sarai, “I Will Never Love Again”

These two pop/R&B powerhouses were assigned Lady Gaga’s mighty A Star Is Born weeper, which proved to be a challenge for poised perfectionist Chechi. “Stop trying to be a singer, and start trying to be a person that we want to get to know,” Gwen Stefani gently but wisely scolded her. Thankfully, Chechi took that direction, allowed herself to be vulnerable, and proceeded to dominate this duet, using her potentially gimmicky Minnie Riperton-esque whistle notes to great effect while still maintaining connection throughout. Meanwhile, Calla’s attempt to heed Gwen’s advice about creating smoother transitions between dynamics didn’t work out quite as well; John even described Calla’s approach as “unsure.” And so, a star was born tonight, and that star was… Chechi.

    WINNER: Chechi Sarai

TEAM LEGEND: Talakai vs. Caleb Sasser, “Too Good at Goodbyes”

Talakai received a lot of screentime during the Blinds because he looked so much like his coach John’s long-lost twin, but apparently the “family resemblance” didn’t given him any nepotistic advantage this week. He must not have been too good at singing “Too Good at Goodbyes,” because this performance was ruthlessly montaged. John instead went with Caleb, whose tone he described as “intriguing and mysterious.” I’m just intrigued by the mystery of what really happened with poor Talakai.

    WINNER: Caleb Sasser

TEAM LEGEND: JaRae Womack vs. Lila Forde, “Killing Me Softly”

This montage was another big mystery. John has seemed like the coach to beat all season, with eight of his 14 contestants being four-chair turns — and I totally expected one of those four-chair standouts, who also happens to be a member of R&B royalty, to get plenty of screentime this season. But actual nepotism didn’t work here either. Bobby Womack’s niece, JaRae, was only fleetingly shown Tuesday harmonizing with her opponent and this Battle’s ultimate victor, Lila Forde, who John said possessed a “unique magic.” And then, JaRae magically disappeared.

    WINNER: Lila Forde
